Hey everyone, Im doing my EE in the arts and my topic is about how technology has influenced traditional and contemporary painting practices. I would concentrate first of the history of digital art, the important people involved and how it developed basically, but then how technology differed and effected traditional art. finally I would compare a digital painting with a traditional painting (probably from a modernist artists) comparing the elements used and how they differ in every aspects. Do you think thats okay? If you have any ideas or suggestions, please tell me

Hi! I am starting my Extended Essay in Visual Art HL next week, and I need some help with formulating my research question! Could anyone give me some pointers on how to formulate a good research question for Extended Essay? I am going to look at the connection between music and visual art, by looking at recording packages/cover art. I will look at color symbols, as well as artistic symbols in general that will show the direct connection to the music. I will also compare the periods of music and art. I will use the album called "Bitches Brew" by Miles Davis and the album "10 000 days" by Tools, where Mati Klarwein and Alex Grey are the artists.

what is the best way to approach an art EE? iv read many places that there are unlimited ways of doing this but how Exactly do you start?? should we focus on issues that are historic or would it be better to do something contemporary?? unfortunately im in an area with a shortage of libraries in general.. so the internet is the primary source of info. for me so would that reduce the grade average?? help appreciated!!!

Music HL Performance

Hi guys I just want to know if any of you know any sample for a 7 in performance for Music HL. I'm depressed because I have Diploma ATCL Recital, Merit in piano, and when I played that piece (Estampes - Pagodes by Debussy, actually an LTCL piece), my music teacher was like: "meh...maybe just barely a 5", and I spent the rest of the entire lesson trying to suppress my rage. Oh well, I do hope that a 7 or even a 6 in a performance is not like professional orchestra standard or else that would be retarded. I'm doing extremely well in all other subjects and so I fail to see how I could only get 4 and 5 currently...I always tried my best..so yeah...thanks for any tips. (lol, d…

I have encountered several musical investigation blogs online discussing about gamelan music and debussy's Pagode. Is it allowed? I thought Debussy was influenced by gamelan music?

Hi, I am in my first year of IB in Japan but my parents have told me we are moving to thailand and my subjects don't match up so I am repeating the next year. When I chose my subjects this year I didn't enjoy them very much and I think it makes a difference if you enjoy what you are doing I really regret not taking music so I want to take it at HL next year. but I don't think I am experienced enough, it's not like I have never performed singing before but never solo and my voice still needs a lot of improvement. I can obviously read music but I don't have much knowledge in Music theory. I really want to do it but is it possible? Will the music theory I need be taught to …

Hi so my theatre PPP in due in a few days and my teacher has no idea how to go about it. I have read a few samples and my stimuli is DNA of human beings. It would be really nice if someone could tell me how exactly one has to go about a PPP. I'm freaking out at this moment cause I don't really know what to do. thanks

Hey guys, Um....so I'm doing my research investigation for theatre, but I can't find any specific plays for Theatre of the Oppressed I know I have to have a specific play to do it on, so I'm a bit confused. Help please?

I'm starting to create my TPPP (I'm in SL theatre) and one of the first problems I'm hitting is how to organize it. I've read the rubric (though I don't quite understand it...) and other information on it, but I'm a little confused as to what all to put in. From what I've read, I need to talk about: (1) 1-2 productions I've been involved in (2) A few of the areas/topics we've covered in class (3) How I've grown from the class (and productions?) (4) The three different areas of theatre (5) Theatre in other cultures What I don't understand is how all of those fit together-- it seems like if I talked about each…

Hi, I am doing my TPPP for theatre arts and was wondering if it was okay to mention in my presentation how I grew and learned from my research such as my research from the PPP, RI or IPP. Or do I have to ease away from the theatre traditions I studied in these projects? For instance, if I studied naturalism and Stanislavski for my RI, could I not mention this knowledge and apply it to a play I saw? Also, if for the external productions that I need to mention that I saw, is it okay if I mention performances that contain musical theater? Thank you!!!

i'm on the second year of IB, and I take music as a higher level subject. it was going pretty well until my experienced music teacher had to resign from our school last december. so now, more or less 3 months away from the exams, AND i have not started (and quite clueless) about my musical investigation AND how to prepare for the paper. my current music teacher is clueless about IB (he read the IB syllabus guide and claims i have to make 10 compositions?!) i know the syllabus well and i am aware that more or less i have to struggle myself. there is no way of cheating as well, but i want to ease things up a little bit. so here's my question. are there any relatively eas…

Okay so I'm taking IB film HL and the 6-7 minute film is due sometime next month and I really really don't want to use original music because, well I'm not a very musical person and making music on garage band or whatever we use just sucks. I feel like the music I have in mind to use just fits the story so well and to make my own would probably compromise the entire film. So my question to you is do you think I'll lose a lot of points for unoriginal music? And do you think my reasons are worth the points? Because to be honest I'd rather lose some points than ruin my movie, but I feel like I'm second guessing a lot...

Okay my TPPP is this friday and im kindof freaking out at this pint because i have no idea how or what to talk about. In general i know you have to talk about the three world traditions and how it develpoed your understanding of theatre, but that still doesnt change the fact that i dont really get what to talk about. Do i talk about for ex. acting in declamatory style evolved earlier form greeks then to ..... (and so forth) I have no idea if someone can explain this to me that would be great!!

So my IB Music Teacher is teaching his first year, he hasn't taught any Music Theory of History, and thus I am having trouble with my compositions. In fact, he hasn't taught us anything, the students have just been performing for festivals. I was wondering what are some good places to start with self-teaching myself the necessary info, and if so, how you get graded for IB Music on the 1 to 7 scale. Thank you!

I really need help on my theater PPP. I missed the day that we did a peer edit in class, so I am hoping someone here (preferably someone who already did their PPP and got a good score on it) could offer me some constructive criticism about it. My stimulus was human DNA. Thanks! This is my pitch currently: DNA has many intriguing aspects to it. One interesting concept is how the two sides mirror each other so that each side is like a photo negative of the other. Using this, an interesting performance theme can emerge. For this performance, one person will be on each side of the stage. A wall will separate the stage in two, to contrast the two stories the actors will port…

im doing photography in visual arts. My theme is dance & movement so I wanna take several shots of dance poses and dance choreographed pieces, etc. However, I do not know many dancers other than myself who have the flexibility and training to do some of the dance moves I have in mind. Is it ok if I have someone take shots of myself doing the moves or would it not be considered MY art and not MY photography?

I'm in my second year of IB, and my music teacher wants us to plan our 20 minute recital over Christmas but I'm really struggling to come up with 20 minutes worth of songs. Most of my class are done with just 2 or 3 pieces on orchestral instruments, but as a singer I've got to find three times as many. So far I've got definitely: Now Sleeps the Crimson Petal Someone to Watch Over Me and possibly: I mio babbino caro Fields of Gold Ye Banks and Braes But even with all five that still only takes me to around 12 minutes, any ideas?

Question is pretty self-explanatory. Right now, my hardest subject by far is IB Music; I just can't seem to write everything I want to say without it sounding like an utter mess. I'm terrified that I'll get a 3 or a 4 on the exam. Does anyone here have any tips for analysing a piece of music? Thanks! Much appreciated!

Hi I had a question about my theatre independent project. I want to create my own workshop and present it to an audience. For my topic I was thinking about doing Improv. I really enjoy Improv theatre and was wondering if that would be an appropriate topic to create a workshop on? I wanted to know your opinions so please post below if you think it is a reasonable topic. (I don't want IB to get irritated with it or label it as too easy of a topic) Thanks In Advance

Because this year is the first official year of testing for IB Dance, my teacher has no idea what she is doing.... We are pretty much left to our own devices for the assessments, which was okay for the choreography and performance, but I'm really lost about the Dance Investigation. Does anyone know what format we use? I was thinking of generally using the format of the Music Investigation, since it's -kind of- the same thing.... are there any other dance students out there who can give me some input??

Happy Holidays fellow IB students! I started IB Year 1 in September, and in the past 4 months we've done nothing in Theatre class. I don't know if it's because we're a mixed class (both regular and IB students, grades 11 and 12), but we've somehow managed to cover even less than what I've done before in theatre classes during grades 9 and 10 (with the same teacher too!). I was totally psyched for Theatre HL because I absolutely love acting and the subject in general, but now I feel like every class is a waste of time. For example, we spent more time chilling in class than doing anything in the past month. I hear that the other Theatre HL teacher at my school has gotten hi…

Hi, all Recently my art teacher told me that the art class would have an art history exam about some famous painting or sculpture like "Raft of Medusa" and "Grand Odalisque" etc. I am a little bit confusing is it an official requirement by IB? Do you guys who choose either HL or SL VA need to take an exam about art history during the two years study? It seems like this test is just my teacher's personal preference and is not necessary at all. We already have studio work and investigation workbook to do. It is not fair to make more tests……

So I just started the HL B Visual Arts course, and I'm really confused about having themes. Should I be talking about it in my workbook? or do I just go with it and talk about how it developed in my works later? My teacher says I don't need a theme, but it sounds like it would help a lot with coming up with ideas and such... My theme is perspective/reality.

I am trying to decide between two possible research questions for my IB Theatre HL research question. The two questions are: 1. Based on the French Neoclassical standards of decorum, how should the character of Tartuffe in Moliere’s Tartuffe behave? and.... 2. How should the scenic design for a production of Moliere’s Tartuffe look based on the practice of French Neoclassicalism? Any input on which question will have more easily accessible information, which is more interesting, or any advice whatsoever is appreciated. I would very much like to stick with French Neoclassicalism and Moliere's Tartuffe.

Hi guys, I am doing my IPP and I thought of various topics to do but I just wanted to make sure they are good before proceeding any further. - Victorian Burlesque Theatre, focusing on costume design, possibly how it was a controversial form of costume design (being provocative in nature; maybe the costume design and society's view) - Bunraku puppetry, creating the puppetry and investigating the roles of the three individuals controlling the Bunraku puppets and the particular way of handling the puppet. (The only problem is that creating a Bunraku puppet is very difficult since there are no tutorials online and they are about 4 feet tall). - Noh theatre- making the masks (…

Hello Everyone! Im a second year IB student who is going to apply for fashion designing in the near future. BUT!! My art teacher this year realized that my theme should have represented Nature/Fashion more than anything else, and after all these researches and outcome she suddenly shifted me from so what called 'personal' to 'organic' theme. I AM SO STRESSED OUT BECAUSE OF THIS. I mean I'm afraid I wont have enough time to research and produce so many outcomes in 6/7 weeks. How can I score the highest meaning 7 for my Visual Arts now when She graded me 10/20 as an estimation for my current status. Please help me! Thanks!!

I am working on my theatre research investigation. The question is: How would the director utilize the puppeteer, the shamisen, and the chanter to execute a traditional Bunraku performance for the characters Oboshi Yuranosuke, and Ko No Morono in Kanadehon Chushingura (The Treasury of the Loyal Retainers) by Namiki Sôsuke? I was wondering is it ok for me to include history as to what the role of each element is then tie that into the actual performance on stage...can I mention blocking because that is also an important part of the stage setup for Bunraku. What would be the best format for my essay in writing this....what should i say first, second etc. any advice....please…

Hey guys, I just finished IB and I wanted to continue helping the IBers after me cause when I was doing it, I'd greatly appreciate a helping hand. I took Art HL Option B and got a high 6 so I decided to focus on helping people in this area of the IB program where I have the most knowledge. Most IB art students "run out of ideas" during their senior year. They just don't know what to make for their final piece. People who are good at painting often fail to show diversity in media because they're comfortable with one media only so they just do that over and over again. I wanted to open a discussion here where I and other IB Visual Art students come and share any ideas they …

When I asked my teacher she said it's ok... but then I read that the APA format requires references to be listed alphabetically... Hi everyone, I'm going into Year 2 of the IB Programme and so far things have been going well. This is a theoretical question, but I was wondering... is there any way for the IB examiners for music to tell if an original composed piece is plagiarised? Like is there a software that would detect it? I'm merely curious but slightly nervous that one of my original pieces might be similar somewhat to someone else's that might be out there. Thanks!
