It's very annoying to deal with TOK, EE, and CAS while you could be taking more classes. You have to invest a TON of time in them. Like for me, i wanted to take psychology and history, but only six subjects are allowed, and you can't triple dip in one group. What do you guys have to say about the negative side of I.B? (except of course for all the headaches and stress)

A full time IB Diploma student, our school also encourages us to take the AP tests, mostly to bring up the school's testing average. Any teacher of a class who has their students take the AP test as well constantly says something along the lines of: IB is trying to find out what you know, while AP wants to discover what you DON'T know. and basically, they say that the IB tests are easier. I somewhat agree, because of so many open and broad questions that are in the IB exams... Psych for example asks broad essays where you can answer in the area of knowledge that you are strong in. AP tests however have multiple choice questions that insist that you know small details abou…

What do you think of some of your IB teachers. We all know that they have to have many meetings and work uber hard to help us get through this IB process, but come on now, sometimes i just want to go at some of them. Math Teacher - Ok, he's a relatively nice guy. Apparently he has had 3 fiances, one left him, one was the love of his life that cheated on him with his best friend, one he actually married, recently. He use to dj, he does ballet, made a banjo out of tree bark. He is part of NAPP (National Association Professional Photoshoppers) The problem is that I don't think he is qualified enough to be an IB teacher, he failed High School algebra, and I'm learning noth…

okay guys, i desperatly need help! im in grade 10 and my name is lisa. i want to switch out from IB to honors cause i originally registered for honors. But somehow, they put me into IB cause the other blocks in honors were full. I dont get how that works, but now im in IB and i don't think i am ready for it. And i researched that you can only drop out of IB by second semester. But if i do that, will i still earn the credits i already have in IB? My teachers have high standards! for instance, i read an english assignment written by someone from another school, and i rated it about a 4/5. But my teacher said that she rated it a 3/5. I didnt think it was that low! …

This was extracted and kind of altered from my last post: Currently, I'm in year 10 and until the end of this year, I think I can change my subjects around. I am uncertain on English, Mathematiccs, Psychology and Chemistry. Looking around, the majority gave me an impression that Psychology is really hard and my teacher, a really, nice and honest person said that it's hard to receive over a 5 for it! As for Chemistry, I know that I have to take it to open up my choices since I am confused on what I want as my career. Anyway, I am doing quite well with Science and therefore hoped to do HL. Nonetheless, I was shocked to discover that Chemistry is quite hard too. By the way,…

Hello, I'm sure this is in IB Literature somewhere, but I was confused and having difficulty finding it. What exactly are the requirements to get your IB Diploma (Excluding the EE, TOK, and CAS)? Do we need to average a 4 on our HL exams, or do we need to pass all of our HL exams? How does this work if you are HLing in 4 subjects? What are the important point numbers when it comes to graduating? (24 vs 28?) We had a discussion about this in HOA today, and none of us were sure and I couldn't find it in writing. Thanks for your help.

So, this is my school's second year of having the IB program. The seniors in my school are the first to go through it. Since my school is new to it, we don't have much variety in what classes to take. Right now I'm taking: History HL English A1 HL Psychology HL Spanish B SL (they only offer this) Math Studies SL Chemistry SL I'm having a ridiculously hard time in Spanish and it has been only the first week. I can't understand the teacher, speak or write. I just stare endlessly at the clock hoping the bell would ring soon. I only have 2 years of Spanish under my belt and the same retarded teacher I've had since Freshmen year who can't teach for her life. I know I've read …

For IB1 we got new and unexperienced teachers for Chem HL and Bio HL! they have thought other regular classes but not IB... Should I be worried? IB2 students got the good and VERY experienced teachers for these two subjects. We just got unlucky and I'm mad about it because I plan on studying medicine and these two subjects are the MOST important. I want to score a 7 in both. What do you think?

I'm taking 4 HL's right now. I just switched French SL to HL because I checked university requirements and in order to study International Relations and French, some wanted French HL. I'm in my 2nd year of IB, but still have time to change. However, I know that 4 HL's is hard work and I want to get the maximum no. of points possible. My other HL's are English, Economics and History. I can't drop English A1 (for obvious reasons). So I'm trying to decide right now between dropping down to SL in history or economics. Which one is harder, and in which one do people get better marks in? Both of them are relevant to international relations so it doesn't really matter which one …

Hey guys, so our school started a week ago and I'm still on the fence about keeping IB. My current schedule (with IB) is: English HL1 Chemistry Algebra 2 Spanish 3 AP US history Visual Arts SL If i were to drop IB, I obviously wouldn't be doing my Vis. Arts class and the extra courses (history of americas, etc.). I want to go to UC Irvine or UCLA. What do you guys think? I'm apprehensive about so much work for IB that I won't have any time to devote to my other classes (chem, alg.2) I don't want to be up to my neck with books and papers every day, 24-7. Based on my schedule, what do you think I should do? I'm pretty basic in math and science (hence the…

I just wanna know what you think my chances are of getting marked up to a 7. I had 19/25 on paper 1 and 48/60 on paper 2. My paper 1 was the highest mark out of the whole class. The overall class average was a high 6. Considering I didn't even finish writing paper 1, is 19/25 normal? Maybe the examiner didn't notice or something... Comment, please.

Ok, this is kind of a rant so please excuse my french but I will try and control myself I really pisses me off that so many IB students get bum raps especially full-IB students at my school. Everyone , and I mean everyone, seems to jump to the conclusion that since we're in IB we are not physically fit or just plain fat and out of shape. Personally I believe that some people in IB do let themselves go a bit and use the "too much homework" excuse. About a week ago in my Geo class, a few of us forgot out textbooks, including me, so the teacher took down names and asked the people who forgot their textbooks to do 10 push ups and immediately some of the people who forgot their…

Basic question, doing past papers, when should you start doing them? A friend of mine has just started doing old exam papers to practice, and my question when would it be clever to start those? You might not want to do it too early as you have not covered enough of the syllabus yet, but you don't wanna start to late either for obvious reasons... So what should you do?

I am thinking of doing medicine/pharmacy in university. Should I take Maths HL or Maths SL? I have been accelerated in maths. So if I take SL I can do my IB exam for that subject next year (2009) But if I do HL I would have to do it with all my other subjects in 2010. (Don't ask me why, our school system is very peculiar) Would medicine degrees require HL maths? And also Is HL maths a LOT harder than SL maths? How are they different? I am definitely doing Chem and bio but would I need Physics? If so would SL Physics satisfy the requirements? No, I don't really like Physics but I don't hate it either so if I have to do it I will!! Thanks!!!!

I was wondering if the second year is supposed to be wayyy harder than first year or just a little, ( i.e. workload?) Because I heard that they changed it or something...I heard that first year was too easy and the second was really hard. And now its both equal ( minus the amount of IA's, EA's, etc.) I don't really know.. Could anybody give me a heads up of whats coming for me in the future. hahaha

So, I was just wondering... how does your school deal with IB? Do they make it tougher? Or do they keep it normal? Or make it easier? For example, do they set a minimum of CAS hours greater than 150 or limit the amount of hours you can spend in a single activity? Do they grade you, say, ''generously'', and then you get disappointed when you get your actual grade? Are your teachers actually qualified for IB? Are they well aware of what IB asks for? Are they able to answer ALL your doubts regarding the programme? In my case: - IBC: He knows everything, but he doesn't make sure that the teachers know everything unfortunately. - CAS: the minimum is 150, and we can do anythin…

This thread is to compare predicted grades to actual grades. I'm starting this because I had little faith in my teacher's predicted grades (we apply as independents not via our school) and most of my fellow classmates felt they got screwed. Please post in a format similar to the one below. Predicted/Actual: 3/4 Biology SL: 6/6 Psychology SL: 7/5 Math Methods SL: 6/7 English A1 HL: 7/6 Danish B HL: 7/7 Economics HL: 6/7 TOK: A/B EE (Danish): A/A Predicted Total: 42 Actual Total: 41 I'm not sure why teachers are so bad at predicting grades but it really is a problem. I think it sucks that the people who teach us for 2 years have no influence on our fina…

So recently I started working on my extended essay in Geography. I've been slightly worried about what exactly plagiarism is. I know the basics like stealing other people's ideas and presenting it as your own. My teacher has given me a few sample essays to read over and see how they organized it and such. I saw one that I really liked and I'm really not sure if taking the way he/she organized their essay but also some headings. Can anyone clarify this better for me please? thank you!

So I was thinking that there was a bunch of these kinds of 'IB Revision Courses' around the world and perhaps we could make a thread for it to discuss them. These are the following courses that I have found: Just in case anyone is wondering. Pre-IB means preperation/introduction for the IB. Mid-IB would be between year 1 and 2 in the Diploma Programme. Spring-IB would be the spring before the examinations in May. Autumn-IB would be the autumn before examinations in November. The subjects offered vary from course and session and the same thing goes for fee so you should visit their website for that instead. Oxford IB Study Courses Link: Click Courses offered: Pre-IB, Mi…

For those of us who aren't planning on going to Cambridge or Harvard...do you think that you would have an equal or if not better chance of going to the university of your choice if you were in the regular curriculum? Like a lot of people, my marks have dropped dramatically since I entered IB. My predicted are not meeting the standards of acceptance for the universities I want to go to. I still have a year to go but I fear for the worst. I can't help but think that I would be better off in the provincial curriculum and getting straight A's. It says the IB forces views on its students, yet these people and this article is saying that we should teach children the views that are in line with the American government... I don't think that the IB 'forces' views on its pupils, I just think it teaches us, at least at my school, to question authority, rather than just believe everything the news/government tells us. All my teachers, especially group 4 teachers, hate the textbooks by IBID. I've noticed that their textbooks in general are pretty low in content and quality. The textbooks for Chem and Physics feel more like a revision guide than anything else. They don't go into detail nor do they give us enough examples and practice questions. And there are countless mistakes, some of which are critical. What do you think of IBID?

We didn't have the stress of the the other exams that the Year IIs had yet I still felt an enormous amount of pressure. My math mark is basically going to determine my future in IB. If I get below a 6, I would have to try much hard in my other courses inorder to compensate for the low score. If I get a 4 or below, I'm quitting IB because there really isn't a point in staying with that kind of score.
