Here is the situation. I kind of feel that my math teacher is downgrading most of the guys in the HL class and bluffing for the girls. based on my SL year with that teacher last year, almost all of the guys received pretty low scores while the girls scored high. After peer to peer comparisons, we agreed that she is extremely biased. This does not get resolved however, because IB usually takes the top tier and the bottom tier of the class... which are high scoring girls and low scoring girls (guys in the middle).... so, every year, the feed back the teacher gets back is that she grades too easily... (obviously, since she ****ing favours the girls... and everyone's score de…

Read the whole post before replying, please. Also, anything that sounds disrespectful in any way is probably intended as a joke =P Allow me to introduce myself. My name is (first name) (last name), but if you wish, you can call me (nickname). Or anything you want. I don't really care. As none of you know, I am not an IB student, nor have I any intention of becoming one. I have little, if any, knowledge of how the IB system works. But, my friends, is the reason I have come here. I come to learn, to discover, to excavate from the catacombs of this internet forum the procedures and curricula unhelpfully obscured by the IB website and those of the schools who s…

I am in the pre-IB program right now and will be in the first year of the IB programme next year, we have to decide our classes, and I was wondering if anyone who has already taken these classes or is taking them could help me by giving me info, etc. I'm planning on taking: mathematics SL french SL english HL history HL biology HL I'm indecisive about my elective; I either want to take ITGS SL or Chemistry SL. I've heard taking 2 IB sciences is difficult and time consuming. but i like science... but I've also heard that the ITGS course has an easy IB test. can anyone give me insight on either of these classes, please? Thanks!

Hey everyone! I just finished my IB1 and I took Math Studies anticipated in May.. I was wondering if, when we will be able to check our results in July, everything was going to work. I mean, so many students are going to check their results at the same time! Does anyone know if it usually just works perfectly or if they had problems before? Thanksss :]

Hey, i'm just sorta curious. The IB students at my school, as part of the "IB is hell" joke that (I think) is common with all IB students, consider the IB coordinador extremely evil, waiting for the opportunity to find an IB student alone and devour his soul. In our case, it's Ms. Bandy (or BeelzeBandy :diablo: ). I was just wondering if any of you feel that same way about your IBC..... ...or if you actually think IB is heaven, that would be...interesting.... ...or if any of you know Bandy, you probably go to my school, Ridgeview High, and we can make a big deal about the fact that we go to the same school... PS- I gotta love this smiley:

this wasn't exactly in IB, but it happened in one of my pre-ib classes, socials 10 H Class started and all of us were waiting for the student late for class everyday. (background on that student: simple-minded, unreasonable, class slacker, tall and absolutely STUPID) Our teacher was really in a bad mood that day and decided to close the door on him and would not let him in. It's a long story but i'll just get to the most interesting part. He eventually went down on his knees outside the door, begging our teacher to let him in. He even said "even Jesus would let me in" (ok that just cracked up the whole class, you'd had to be there to witness it). He could not complain to…

Around here all we seem to be doing is complaining about how difficult IB is and how stressful it is and how everyone hates it, so why take it then? not that im saying dont taek it or drop it or anything, but everyone knows IB is hard even before takign it, so what motivated you to take it, why take it then? So I decided to post this topic to see what you IB's benefitted from taking IB. IB wouldn't be so succesful around the world unless it really did benefit the students who took it, so what have you guys learnt from taking IB, what has been the positive outcome of taking it(which im sure there is!)?? It's a change and something to remind us all why we took IB in the fi…

Ok, so my parents decide to move to Buffalo in the middle of my junior and because of problems there, back to Florida. They signed me up for all the wrong exams that I plan to take higher level next year. I canceled the econ SL exam and am forced to take the SL French exam (didn't cancel in time). Here's the problem. I will be taking all 6 IB exams next year at the end of senior year (I love French, taking it higher level of course). On top of that, I will take 3 AP exams. That's a total of 9 exams in a matter of a few weeks. Anyone else have this problem? Ugh... English HL History HL Econ HL French HL Math SL Chem SL AP Macro AP Calc BC AP French WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY????…

IB Learner Profile - What do you make of it?

Hey everyone, I hope you're doing good and I hope all 2008 graduates are revising well and are super ready for their exams I made this topic to know more about what other IB students think about the Learner Profile; do you think it is a good classification of IB Students? Do you aspire to be a person with all those characteristics once you graduate from IB? Or do you think that it is almost a form of brainwashing, where the IBO is trying to turn us into zombies, who are 'caring', 'knowledgable' and 'reflective'. Ok maybe not that dramatic but my point is made. Personally I do aspire to acquire all those characterisitics one day, but I don't like the way it is made as …

Here is the story... Today I took my French exam. As I finished paper 1, the ib-coordinator instructed us to use the string he is handing out to hold the pages together. I wasn't sure if i heard correctly but yes he did say string. I can't believe that my exams are held together by a little piece of string and 2 plastic sticks. they look kind of like this...(the plastic is about twice the size of the diagram) |***| ***- the string | - the plastic I would have thought it would have been some kind of metal O-Rings binding these things together but a piece of string and some plastic!? I wonder if they have ever had any accidents involving loss of sheets of paper. Anyone else…

So a new principal came and decided to change everything at my school around.. The IB isn't the only program offered here and we also have a regular American HS diploma track with AP courses and such however, in the past, if an IB class lasts two years, you'll get the same teacher for that two years. but apparently that's TOO HARD to schedule for our new principal. and now he's changing it all around and we might get different teachers for the two years. i mean, for something like english, we have started on our world lit now but will not be done by the end of the semester. so how are we going to work on it with a new teacher who probably has never read our world lit work…

Originally from wicked-ib.winter-flower.net with additions. Aaarg!: A very common cry among IB students. Typically indicates anger, despair, sleep deprivation, depression. Acute: 1. Mathematical term, Acute Angle: an angle less than 90 degrees 2. I came across a post a while ago that listed all the tricks to finding past exams, so I thought they might be wanted here as well. These are well known tricks and I've been telling them to my friends for years, but it's nice to have them all in one place. [quote="Stevko"]Every paper contains sentence "Do not open this examination paper until instructed to do so". Every paper contains words Diploma programme. Almost every paper is PDF file. So you take search engine and input this query: "until instructed to do so" diploma programme (with quotation marks). You can also specify that you want to search for PDF files (not necessary). Then you find good search engines. …

Last years of syllabus are harder
by Guest nicolefroio- 6 replies

In my school there's a rumor going round that the IB is about to renew its syllabus therefore this is the last year of the current syllabus which means that the exams will be harder than in the first year of this syllabus since the easy questions have been used up for the first years... it makes sense to me because most of the last year's graduating IBs got scores they clearly did not deserve - they studied A LOT especially on past papers. does anyone know if this is really true?

Hi everyone! I'm doing some research and would really like to know the percentage break-down of IB results, particularly (but not only) for the May 2006 session. Does anyone know where I can find what percentage of IB candidates worldwide was able to score 24 pts? 45 pts? 37? etc. ... The IBO used to send these kinds of statistics to my school, and they always got posted on a bulletin board. how do your schools show recognition to ib people? my school is really bad at recognizing ib. we have may fete which is supposed to honor people for outstanding academic achievement. the only problem is that they recognize the leadership kids. ib students get completely ignored because our g.p.a.s are shot. My school doesnt weight our grades so we dont meet the gpa requirements. its really sad. my french teacher had to fight tooth and nail to get the full ib kids that are graduating this year recognized in a school assembly. so pretty much my school ignores us and honors the athletes and leadership people.

I dont want there to be any misunderstanding on this because I seriously had no idea where to put this one. So, let me make myself crystal clear, that I do not find the following situation to be "jokes" or "funny stuff" So, my math teacher is pregnant. She is due like the first week of March. and our exam is in May 08. She teaches about 110 students in maybe 5 different periods. she is extremely behind in grading of tests and quizes and stuff. Despite that, she has no regret of having us continue to take her "evil" tests while not knowing how we did on the previous ones. Having said that, i want to know if her baby comes out in early march, how long does she have to stay …

Anyone that wants to share their mnemonics? I have biology, and as you know it involves a lot of memorization. Usually I use the link method, which means making up these crazy stories about the material I need to know. For instance, if I want to learn that a jellyfish has a nerve net and stinging cells called nematocysts, I would imagine a fishing boat pulling a giant jellyfish up from the bottom of the sea in a fishing net made up of nerves, and when the fishers are about to eat the fish, it pulls out its stinging cells and paralyses them. Sounds pretty weird, but it actually does work.

My high school requires me to submit my work to Turnit** before I get a percentage on my work. The lamset part is that it deducts marks off according to the percentage of plagorism. In my personal opinion, turnit** defined some part of my work(mostly definitions on specific terms) from wikipedia as plagorized. Why can't I copy straight from the dictionary if I'm doing the definitions? And, turnit** collects every student's work, which is then stored in their database, how can we tolerate its invasion of privacy? Therefore, I've got some tips to BYPASS this evil system. (works on 3/7/08) Content edited out Welcome to post more ways to bypass Turnit**.

My school allows us to test for certain subjects before our final year of IB. For example I'm currently taking IB Math SL as an IB Junior, and my class has already completed both IAs and will test for IB Math SL in May.
