just looking at a few grade boundaries and it says things like for a grade 7 paper 1: minimum 27/30 paper 2: minimum 50/60 and both papers might count for 50% of your overall grade would you still get a seven if you got something like 26/30 and 59/60 ?? or do you need atleast 27/30 on paper 1? http://www.ibsurvival.com/forum/index.php?...ost&id=1271 btw this is what im looking at if anyone can help understanding it

I'm having problems choosing between History and Economics at higher level. I think both subjects are interesting and I guess I'm as good at history as I am at economics. In my case, what would you say would be the best course for me to choose if I want to obtain a grade as high as possible? Also, have in mind that by the time that I start the IB there will have been some changes made to the history syllabus... the IBO will just add more material!

There is a set of soft IB subjects which are considered inferior by UK universities. If you take more than one of those, you get your chances of getting into Cambridge very very low. so these are (not a complete list) Business management Enviromental sciences Peace and conflict studies ... There was a whole list of those. Ill post them here when I get the list back.

Hello, I'm new to this place and well, my course selection sheet is gonna be handed out to us pretty soon. I will definitly be taking biology, chemistry, english, math, French, and TOK. However, I cannot decide on whether to take history, or geography. Here are some of my criteria (or plans or w/e) I'm gonna be taking HL DEFINITLY. I am looking for a interesting and EASY (emphasis on easy) My gr 11 Geography teacher is very interesting and nice, and puts emphasis on the application of subjects (meaning not alot of tests but more projcets and in depth work). History, meh, I dont know my gr 11 teacher but in gr 12, my gr 9 teacher is the history teacher and she's real…

I don't remember if anyone answered these questions but here goes... Can I SL French both Junior and Senior years? What is the average number of points that people receive towards their diplomma from the TOK essay and EE? (or what did you in particular get?) What's the diplomma-receiving rate in your school? Thanks! =]

Alright team, I need your advice. Right now, I am enrolled in Math SL, Bio SL, English HL, History HL, French B HL, and Chem HL, although I am planning on testing in SL... My issue is, that I am not amazing at Chem, and I am a bit worried about how I am going to be able to do on the final... I'm sitting at around an 85% right now as far as marks go, but I am entirely mathematically inept, so that's where I bring my marks down. My only other option to replace Chem with, is Theatre Arts SL. Now, I am incredibly passionate about drama and theatre, and I do fairly well in English and the humanities... The thing is, it is only our second year with the course, and the teacher …

The topic speak by itself I have read many of the discussion about wide range of subjects and those you want to take. Personally, I want to take English HL / Thai SL / Chinese Ab init / Physic HL / Chem HL / Bio SL / History SL / Business and Management SL / Economic SL / Math HL IB offer so many interesting courses that I feel bad to cut down some choices T.T But of course, we have only two years to study in IB diploma and more than 6 subjects will definitely kill you. I just want to know how many people think that we should have more subjects to study "over" two years. I think we should make IB around 3-4 years and decrease the range of MYP because I found it l…

Hey guys, my school isn't very developed with the IB program, it's our 3rd year with IB and we don't do mocks. I spoke with my IBC today and she didn't even know mocks meant, so, since the predicted grades are important for european universities, I want to convince her to adapt this program. I told her I would find out some information about them, can you guys help me, please? Thanks edit: I read on another thread, I believe it was Hien that said that mocks are mandatory for IB, apparently not. Do you think if I contact the IBO they'll give me info. and suggestions?

Ok, now I hear a lot about Internal Assessments in different subjects, deadlines and stuff like that. so i got a bit confused about how important are these IAs for my final exam grades? I'm taking European History, Maths and English B HL; and Chemistry, Lithuanian A1 and German ab. SL.. I've found that in Chemistry SL i have IA (24%), Paper1 (20%), P2 (32%), P3 (24%). As I understand this is how my final grade in Chemistry is made up. What about other subjects?

Hello... I'm a junior in high school and I've got a few questions (since I'm new to the forum as well as IB)... I am currently taking: French B HL Math Studies SL TOK (not testing class) European History HL Biology SL English A1 HL Psychology SL and my exams are in May 2008... I was wondering if anyone could direct me to any places were I can obtain previous IB exams for FREE for the above-mentioned courses. Also, I was planning on taking Psych HL and French SL (I feel that I'd much rather get say a 5 in French in SL than risking getting a 3 on HL and jeopardizing my diplomma chances). Are these exams particularily hard? I recently did my IOP for English and received a 1…

Well I just finished the second quarter of my high school life, which was dominated by IB. As a result, I've done the IA for Math Studies, European History, and Psychology. I was just curious to know if anybody could grade( if possible to IBO standards), critique and suggest improvements for them. Obviously, I want to obtain as many points as possible. Please reply so that we may set up an exhanging method. Thank you!

I've been hearing around the forums mention individual studies...I kind of get what it is by the name, but what is it exactly? I've been fighting since 9th grade to get the last 2 weeks before the AP exams to get them completely free like they used to do in a school near me. But it's not even an issue in my school, they think i'm crazy when i mention it, like asking to let us order chinese food from the place 2 blocks from our school that is conveniently on the back of the school and me and my friends go there pretty much every day! I mean crazy right!? Well on a more serious note i'd really like to know what individual studies is because I keep reading you guys sayin…

hey everyone! getting nervous about results? ok, well, i'm mightily confuzzled and hoping someone can help me. all along everyone has told me that we get results on the 6th january, ib coordinator gets them on the 5th. all well and good. but i logged on to the results site (to check that it worked) and it says results will be available 15.00 GMT on the 6th january, which is actually 2am on the 7th for me (in sydney)..so is it the 7th? however, on the UAC (new south wales tertiary admissions centre) it says that change of preferences closes 12.00 on the 6th, so it obviously thinks we have our results then..and the queensland equivalent (QTAC) seems to think it receives t…

This might be an issue that people didn't pay much attention to it. Personally I have this pain for three years, oh yea 9 MYP exams in 3 days...a pain in the bum. Each paper have to write about 3 pages short answers followed by two pages essay question. Last year, i screwed up on my last exam (English) after I finished 9 pages sciences and 6 pages Thai writing because I can't hold up the pen anymore. I can't finish the short answer because my writing slowed down; half of normal pace because of the pain in my wrist. Here it is, I found this tip is quite useful to prepare you for IB exams (of course, even more painful than MYP) Apart from this, try practice writing essays (…

So while I was sitting, revising chemistry and continuously checking the syllabus with the book that I am using, I decided to google for IB books. You see, one and a half year ago, I did the same thing in order to find good IB books for certain subjects and found none, other than revision books and guides. However, now it seems as if book publishers have decided to go on a splurge and become very productive indeed because all of the sudden there are books everywhere. IBID Press has books for Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Economics, English B, A1 English, Environmental Systems (portfolio...), Geography, History, Math, Philosophy, Physics, Psychology and ToK. …

New IB Curriculum. Thats all i've been hearing about lately. I say that most of the 2007 - 2009 students are at a bit of a disadvantage because we're kind of considered the IB guinea pigs at this point. I'm a little scared, because i don't know what to exactly expect because i don't have the older generation and their previous knowledge at hand, to help me through this IB time of need. My biggest problem, at the moment is the Drama Curriculum. My teacher said it was supposedly easier, because instead of being about the "journey", the whole idea of ending your IB career was to show how you got there, from the tears to the sweat to the friends you made on the way, they wan…

So, I'm wondering about your schools' positions on electives, as in optional courses. At our school, to graduate, you have to have at least two credits in either tech. (i.e. welding, mechanics, etc.) or arts (i.e. drama, music, etc.)... This applies to IB candidates, and others, and right now I have one drama credit, but no others, so I have to take an elective next year. This poses an issue, as next year I am going to be taking IB Chem, Maths, English, History, French, TOK, and I'm not sure how I am going to be able to fit a course like band in my schedule, but, even if I take all of my IB exams with record marks, I won't graduate without this stupid core course. Ecccch…

Taking an exam in 11th grade

Hi, I'm thinking of taking my French SL IB exam this year. I'm already registered and all, but I'm having second thoughts. I currently have 3 SLs and 3 HLs. Next year French would become HL making it 2 and 4. What would happen if I were to take it this year rather than next? Would it benefit me or making things harder? I think I can still opt out...I hope.

Well, I will start proceedings as this is mostly a selfish altruistic thread , English I did my English IOC on Friday so effectively I never have to speak again Finished WL ages ago Did my IOP last year, all I can remember is that I almost vomitted before it Spanish On the Tuesday of the two weeks ago, I had my Spanish Individual oral so effectively I never have to speak spanish again:yes: I have done 5 Interactive Orals throughout this year Chemistry I have o…

Hi I'm a 2008 candidate for IB. This idea has been brewing in my head for a while: contributing do a wiki on an active basis = Service aspect of CAS? Surely? I'm an active contributor to a large wiki and I love what I do there. I think I'm all set to become an admin there soon and yet the "elections" as they call them are not until January. School starts February and since IB is a very demanding activity, I may not have any time at all through the year to make a single edit around the wiki - this is lamentable because it will detract and destroy my interest there. No? So, contributing to a wiki: reckon that can be accepted as part of CAS for Service, or is any kind of int…

My friend (Alykhan) and I (Laura) want to organize a dance for all IB diploma students in Vancouver. IB is an international program, but a lot of IB students havn't had the chance to meet IB students from other schools, even from their own city (at least that's the way my diploma class feels). It is for this reason we want to organize this dance. As of right now, we are still in the planning stages. I've gotten consent from my IB coordinator and my school administration to host the dance, however we need help figuring out: -the amount of people that will attend (i.e. interest levels) -the price people are willing to pay to attend such a dance. (For prices, tickets will…

IB Study Wiki!

There's a brand-new IB Study wiki at http://ibstudy.editthis.info -- Just in time to ramp up studying before the May '08 exams B). Here's the idea: there are thousands of students taking the IB program. A lot of you have been through most of the program already, and creating a study guide for others is an excellent way to study. For those who follow, well, it'll just be one awesome study guide for all of their needs! There's not much on there yet, but if we pull together, we can get a solid, catch-all study guide up there. That would be great, wouldn't it? Create an account, take a look at the pages that're already there, and help me fill whatever's not there! Think it's …

Hi A general introduction: I am a 2008 candidate in New Zealand. I chose the IB over the national qualifications certificate because I preferred a change to this standard system. I am also interested in travelling across the world, but then where to I do not know. I am very undecided about my future job prospects. To the point. Though I am academically set for the most parts of IB (i.e. over the holidays I will be reading many of the novels prescribed for A1 English as well as studying for HL Biology and HL History to give me a head start hopefully). Physically however I am useless. I don't play a sport, and most people taking IB in my form are on the Duke of Edinburgh (a…

I was just wondering, if you took seven classes, does the points in the additional class count for the exams? Or do they only take 6 best subjects and give credit for that. I heard someone took 9 different exams! How is that even possible? Can you just apply to any exam you want and get credit for it? Even if you never even took the class corresponding to the exam? Thanks for the replies in advance! )

Hi I just began my IB1 year, and we've finally gotten our first mock Internal Assessments - yippee! The subject in question is Economics, and according to our Economics guide book, we should be given some examples of ready IAs to look at for reference. Our teacher, however, told us that we "shouldn't need examples", and she implied that we should already know how to write the IA. Now basically no-one has any idea on what the IA should look like, so I've come here to ask for your help. I noticed that there are example IAs in the Economics-section, but since I'm new to this site (found it through google), I can't download them. Can anyone help us with our problem? Edit: gra…
