I heard that IB final grade is useless. The IB predicted grade is more essential. Is it right that IB predicted grade is based on term 2,4, 6 of the IB years??? ONLY TERM 2,4 AND 6? If i got great grade in term 3 , but it would not be sent to university? (its so unfair..)

Take the quiz here. Man, IB is taking over the world if there's actually a quiz for it. My result: You are the Procrastinator. You always put everything off until the last second, and your grades suffer for it. Try starting your homework BEFORE 11:00 PM Why did I expect this? For the record though, I might procrastinate but my grades don't suffer that much for it. I don't procrastinate that much.

Hey, I'm retaking Maths SL this May in Copenhagen and the IB-coordinator has asked me to send him the application details in order to register me to the IB results service. Now, it's a bit embarrassing but I don't know what he means by application number! Can someone please explain? Thanks in advance!

I am thinking about attending an IB summer revision course over the summer break, but I am unsure of where I could / should go. So far I only know about the OSC programme and RevisionCoursesEurope... I heard that the OSC programme is supposed to be excellent, but I am interested in the revisioncourseseurope, because it is in Sweden. Can anyone share experiences or opinions?

I have the choice of either staying in the US for one last year, finishing high school, and then moving to Sweden along with the rest of my family, and going to college. Or, I can move with them, and take the IB program, which will take two years. (Skipping the first 'prep' year in Sweden.) I'm currently in a private American high school, sophomore year (11th). And to be perfectly honest, I'm not the sort of person that is interested in school, but I see the necessity, and as such, I still study (No more than 30 minutes a day, never on the weekends, other than for exams.) but, I'd rather just have fun with friends / other miscellaneous activities. I generally get grades i…

Good Evening good people at I-B survival, I bring a question that needs to be answered in my books anyways. Are we Elitist? Do we think we are better than "other" students? My school is split between the I-B curriculum and the regular provincial curriculum (I go to a public school that offers IB), they are both taught in my school and it seems that we as an entity in the school look down upon the individuals that are taking the Provincial Curriculum. Does this occur all over the world or is My school in Canada like Frasier Crane and The Trailer Park Boys going to the same school?

OK basically i'm panicing. I though I was doing pretty well and I've been getting 6's and 7's on all my essays in History, 5's or 6's in english and 6's on all the science test's and stuff and erghhh, just got my report, and they've all said im going to get like 5's or 4's. What?! are they right? i'm aiming for 6's and 7's and I've been doing pretty well so I don't get it. Also, that's my marks fior the pieces of work, in lessons i don't say muhc i'm quiet i just listen, and if I have ideas, like in English, i write it on my notes or use it in Essay's, I don't feel the need to have the teacher justify it. Could it be my lack of talkyness that makes them think i'm doing c…

Since ive joined the IB ive found my friends and my self moving apart and ive realised that my social life has died. Everything in my life seems to be slowing down and stopping and its all happened since i joined the IB. I think this is because H/W has stopped me doing alot of things that i would usauly do and im the only 1 out of my previous friends to go onto do the IB. Has any one else experienced this? or got any advice for me?

I apologise in advance if there's already been a topic on this. Is it legal to download past exam papers, and the mark schemes that go with them? Because it's very, very useful for studying, and I've found this website which has tons of past exams. And if it's not, why not? I have a feeling it's illegal, think I heard that somewhere, but then again our teachers often give us the marking schemes which presumably they can download.

So, I have been ridiculed for my writing throughout my 2 pre-Ib years. And now, In IB1, I am continuously reminded that I will FAIL my IB exams on the mere writing skills. In all honesty, I really cant fix the problem. My first language was Serbian/Bosnian, and the 2 writing styles (Cirilica i Latinica), are based on forming letters down -- up. While English, If I am not mistaken is up -- down. Anyways, so my teacher is trying to warn me especially now in Spanish that I wont get my 7 unless I do somethnig about my writing. and I have tried to fix it, but I flip-flop between serbian/english/spanish so much, that I have developed a unique and singular style of writing that …

Hi, I am extremely tired nowaday because of immense school pressure I just wondered if it is normal that IB classes are at school in the weekennds doing extra lessons? After seeing this post, I wondered whether or not IB in fact qualifies as a cult. Let's see using this handy checklist! The group is focused on a leader to whom members seem to display excessively zealous, unquestioning commitment. Well, we whine a lot, but I'd say we're pretty devoted. Questioning, doubt, and dissent are discouraged or even punished. Except in TOK. But even there... Mind-numbing techniques (such as meditation, chanting, speaking in tongues, denunciation sessions, debilitating work routines) are used to suppress doubts about the group and its leader(s). TOK class. The leadership dictates sometimes in great detail how members should think, act…

Hey guys, this has been vexing me for quite a bit of time now. Can anyone give me the specifics of how the IBO markers arrive at your final numerical mark on the scale of 1 - 7? I know that this mark is based on a bell-curved scale of marks from IB students everywhere. However, what I'm really confused about is how they factor in the internal assessment. I'm aware that the IA and the EA both bear different weightings. However, is the IA also marked on a bell-curved scale (based on global results)? I'm particularly perplexed about the Language B internal assessment. I'm aware that it's worth 30% of the grade but at my school, we have one oral exam worth 15% and three oral …

Hi, this is my first post here. I wanted to know if someone knows how is the plagiarism detected (Extended Essays, TOK, etc). I mean, i suppose it is a software, but how could it work? And anyone knows if the school is fined because their students are accused by plagiarism? I know what happens to the student, but not to the school... So I know this is the equivalence of asking for a diet pill, or some utopian advice that is going to make all bad things disappear About me: I am known for overdoing, perfecting and trying 110000%. I have my English oral in two weeks. Daily sleeping routine ranges from 0-4 hours. I feel really burned out and stretched. Maybe its because of the online classes, or the next three I have signed up for to finish in 18 days. I just want to be able to do sleep 16 hours in 5-7 days again, like I used to freshman year. Staying up is so much more difficult. Even after 2 red bulls. I am stretched to the max, like a rubber band. Any advice on how to return to shape and manage all t…

The Highers that I'm taking are : Biology, English & Spanish B. My standards are : Math SL, Chemistry & Psychology. Is there anybody out there who's taking the same set-up or classes as me? Ok, so at our school they told us that even the best students shouldn't expect to get above a 39, because it's very rare and almost impossible, but when I was reading the "University Offers 2009", I keep seeing that people are predicted 40 and above. I am an IB 1 student, so I still have time to worry about my own predicted grades, but at my school they said that last year only 1 person got a 7 in Psych HL, nobody got a 7 in English HL, and that the class with more 7s was SL Biology, and I think that they had 4 students getting a 7. Is my school's preparation level really low or are all those people just smart? I'm really curious because my school is considered one of t…

Hi everyone, well.. the thing is that we have just recently kind of, spontaneously, formed a band (We are all IBers). We performed for the first time at school for holidays, and now they have asked us to play again for the Model United Nations party in the school. The thing is that we can't come up with a good name!! We want it to be something that we all have in common, or a really cool and enigmatic name. Any suggestions??

In a couple of weeks the school board for my district will be voting on whether to allow for an MYP program to be started at my high school where there is already a DP program. This was supposed to take place at the last board meeting, but then the tabled the issue to appear in a town hall meeting scheduled for next tuesday. Yet, I have recently heard that there will be a contigent of people who are going to try to end the IB program at Franklin. That would mean voting down the MYP program along with trying to take down the DP program. The big argument is that the IB program is "elitist" and that it is sapping too much resources from the district and that they don't …

Irregular Diploma
by Guest PollyPeptide- 12 replies
- 10.7k views
Hey guys, I was just wondering if there is anyone here taking the IB Irregular Diploma. Which basically means that you can skip one of the 6 groups and replace it with a subject from another group. Say, if you only wanted Natural Sciences, you skip Group 4 and take three Sciences from Group 5 instead. You can do this if you provide proof that this is needed for your further education. I'm taking it with three Sciences, because Swedish med schools require Biology, Chemistry and Physics. I know two other people taking it as well (we're considered suicidal by other students ), but there doesn't seem to be very many taking it in other countries.

I'm a bit confused. If you take the IB in Ontario, you graudate with the diploma and the OSSD (Ontario high school diploma). In order to get the OSSD, you need to get 30 credits, but how is this done if you only are suppose to take 6 courses in IB1 and IB2? In grade 9 and 10 i'm taking 8 courses, so by grade 10 I have 16 credits, but do you take an additional 2 courses alongside the 6 at IB level in IB1 and IB2 to get the 30 credits you need for the OSSD?
