I need some help regarding course choices.I'm very interested in a career in engineering--computer engineering, in particular.Which of the following course choices seem strongest?Do you think it will be too much work?Is four HLs worth taking?----Choice 1:English HLMath HLPhysics HLHistory HLBio SLJapanese SL----Choice 2:English HLMath HLPhysics HLHistory SLBio HLJapanese SL----Choice 3:English HLMath HLPhysics HLHistory SLBio SLJapanese SL----thanks. Ivan91
don't take bio .. for computer engineering ? try computer science if your school offers it or chemistry instead of Bio.
anonymous1
don't take bio .. for computer engineering ? try computer science if your school offers it or chemistry instead of Bio.yeah-- I was planning on taking computer science and chemistry but sadly, my school doesn't offer any of those courses... Mr. Shiver
Choice 1 or Choice 3, depending on how much you love History.
__inthemaking
I would take choice 3.
camilof1
I would go with choice 3 but thats just me, really just think of how strong a worker you are. If you think your a strong worker than take the challenges but its really up to you since its your grades and your life.
Mandiloquence
Hi! I would either take choice 1 or 3, also depending on how much you love history...but if your school offers ITGS or any non-IB computer or engineering classes (or you can take those at a local college or university), I'm sure those would be helpful to use your open slot for. But then again, always consider how much of your time you have available, and want to spend on schoolwork.
Agneisse
Choice 1 or 3...Depends on how much you like History, or how good you are at memorisation (the skills needed for SL are exactly the same as those of HL, the latter is just more material). I'd definitely take both Math and Physics at HL for CompSci, though.
Mr. Shiver
I should also point out that it's 20th century history. In SL all of it is 20 century, but at HL you might get some 19th century history. Lots of content relating to wars and party rule. Just letting you know what you'll be getting yourself into. hellogoodbye
i think if you take bio and chemistry you'll be fine.i did both this year and the topics kind of overlapped, making the two courses somewhat easier.
anonymous1
thanks for all your help!hmm. between choice 1 and choice 3, i think i'll go for the three SL one. i'm not that big of a fan of history. you don't think taking bio at HL would be an advantage for a computer engineering course? Mr. Shiver
you don't think taking bio at HL would be an advantage for a computer engineering course? Not any more than SL would be, I would think.
anonymous1
okay, thanks!I handed in my course selection form today & went with course choice 3. (:IB next year...*shivers* Dx
LeeHits
Your school doesn't offere Chem HL? 0_o I would definitely pick the third option. There is really no point in cramming yourself with four HLs, especially considering that the major you want doesn't require it. And History HL is a bit of a pain if you ask me... IBSQUARED
If i were you, i'd pick choice three, mainly because you dont need the extra stress/workload of HL history, when SL and HL history wont really effect getting into a computer engineering profession.
