Hello, as an international applicant to a few US universities, I was wondering if anyone knows whether they check the IB scores, and whether getting lower scores than the predicted one may result in losing one's offer of admission or having one's financial aid package rescinded/reduced. Any help would be great. Cheers

My IB Coordinator claimed that when we get IB diploma, we won't need any other language proficiency tests like, for example,TOEFL when we apply to university. On the website of the uni I am interested in it is stated that TOEFL is 'not equired, but strongly recommended' for all non-native English speakers. But there is also a sentence: 'however, you may feel this proficiency will be clear in other aspects of your application' - how should I understand that? I would guess that having a decent mark in A2 HL English will be enough, especially considering that every single subject in IB (except Polish of course ) is conducted in English. Still, I am not entirely sure about …

Specifically for the fall 2012 term (I'm graduating this year.) I know two friends who live in Europe who've already gotten their acceptance. I'm applying for sciences, no scholarships, from IB. UBC's my first choice by far, I have 36 points and my supplementary app info really isn't too shabby so I'm hoping for the best (: However many other universities are already starting with early acceptances, and because I'm in ontario (out of province) I have no idea when I'll hear back. Any info that could help ease my worries?

I'm interested in applying to Waterloo next year for engineering and the requirements for most of those courses are: 2 Maths, Chemistry, Physics, English. At the bottom there's this note: Admission averages are based on previous years' entering classes. Your admission average is calculated using your top 6 Grade 12 U or M courses, or equivalent, including all required courses. I'm not sure what that means, and my biggest concern is my French mark. It's not the greatest and I'm worried that it'll affect my admissions.

Hey Everyone, I am in the 1st IB year and I am starting to think about which program and what university to go to. I am taking HL CHEM, HL BIO, HL ENG, SL MATH, SL HISTORY, and SL French. So far, I've been thinking of medicine and I was planning to do undergrad biochemistry and then, med-school. But, now, I am so confused; I don't know if that's what I really want to do and I don't know if I am really interested in doing that. I love math and chem. I don't mind bio but, I still get good grades in bio though. I want to do something active and not have to sit behind a desk. I also wouldn't mind something that has to do with travelling the world; I would love to work inter…

I am applying to physical science at McGill, and I have a fairly low predicted score (35 subject points or 38/45). I have read somewhere that McGill looks at ossd marks before IB marks. Would they therefore look at my top 6 average (~92%) and give me acceptance potentially based on that even if I didn't completely meet the IB requirements? More importantly, I know last year's minimum was 88%; what chances do you think I have for getting in?

Most universities pretty much overlook the IB diploma and only use it for determining credit, espicially in Canada. Anybody know any schools that really like IB diploma students. I know SFU really likes IB students.

I want to apply to Waterloo for one of their Engineering programs (I'm nearing the end of Year 1 IB) but I have a few questions. I plan on taking a campus tour during March Break to get a feel of it (my friends who've been there love it). It seems that every teacher or person I've talked to gave me a different answer when I ask which marks universities look at (Grade 11, 12 etc). I want to know how marks are viewed by universities in general ( which marks count for the most and least). Also, being in IB I get have my fair bit of stress which doesn't bother me at all or I'd have quit IB already since Engineering at Waterloo barely acknowledges IB (as far as reps have told …

Hello fellow IBers: I want to study economics or commerce at ubc, however, I don't really understand how does the application process work and what your degree actually conveys when you're done with university as you graduate. I'd like to get into ubc with a scholarship. Could somebody please shed some light on this admission process? How can I get a degree in which I'm officially an economist? I don't get how does Liberal Arts work , this mechanism differs greatly from my country's university courses. Furthermore, if I was to study commerce, what would the Bcomm do for me in the working field? You can notice I'm pretty much lost, I admit it, I know practically nothing a…

Hi, I have a question, which many of you might think is stupid , but I have to ask it: Why do universities require for you to take SAT/TOEFL/IELTS when we are IB students and many of us have actually taken English A HL? Also, does your school help you prepare for the tests? P.S. Again sorry for the stupid question, but I need clarification. Thank you, Maks

Good morning, I am a peruvian student of the IB. I'm planning to study computer science in the USA, but I don't have an economic status as high as for paying for a university, that's why I am looking for full scholarships. Do you know about organizations that give full scholarships? What should I have for applying for those scholarships? Should I apply for SAT exams too?, or is it enough with IB scores? Thank you in advance for your answers.

Ok, I live in Ontario and have a burning passion for business. Now the best school around is York and they say that they need lvl 6 in HL math. Unfortunately my school only offers SL math. Is it worth staying in IB for this university?? I can get a lot more business-focused credits in my regular Ontario curriculum, for which they say that they need only the gr. 12 C&V cred and gr.12 Advanced Functions cred Personally I think that It is worth dropping out just for this university Be homeschooled and get the creds I need as well as make money

I'm applying for Bachelor for Architecture in Canada, but the only schools that offer it are Mcgill and waterloo. I got a feeling that McGill would be full of snobby people since they say that its the top. Could someone validate this claim? Waterloo also sounds nice, and Ive heard its full of mainland Chinese. The application for architecture is ridiculous compared to all of the others though. They require a video interview where you present 3 of your art works. And you also need a "precis" test where you cram an English work into one sentence. Why this is in here we'll never know. Should i apply? I was also thinking U of Alberta and U of BC, which is closer and more of m…

So basically my dilemma is that I don't know which colleges to go for my undergraduate studies. I live in Saskatchewan, Canada and the closest university here is the University of Saskatchewan and if I go there it's around $10,000 yearly but I would rather move out then live at home because frankly I want to see the world. However, I want to go to universities in Texas because I have family living there, and I'm thinking of applying to universities such as UT of D, UT at Austin, SMU and Rice university. I'm hoping I can get into Rice because they offer good financial aid but I need to raise my SAT score to do that. Anyway the problem is that universities in Texas are real…

Hello there! Wow it's been a while since I started a thread. Anyway, I am currently in my gap year and it recently occurred to me that, apart from the UK, I could also apply to universities in Canada. I would apply to US as well, but I am too lazy to take any SATs - other than my math level 1 and 2 . So I have been looking around and I have concluded that I will apply to the University of Toronto (which I absolutely loved), McGill university and the University of British Columbia. I have sent my applications to the later because they are not using the OUAC thing (I am such a noob!), but I have not fully completed my paperwork. My top priority right now though, is the Uni…

Hey All Firstly, what I'm saying is just my own opinion and isn't necessarily correct; yet, I'm sure that some of the things I will say will clarify the process for you. Secondly, make sure you apply to lots of safety schools (ones you will definitiely get into) and also lots of schools that offer scholarships to YOU (that you qualify for. Especially be careful if you are international as that may make you non-eligible. sucks, I know). Finances are a big issue for college, so be sure that you can pay for it somehow. Thirdly, SAT scores are very important. For the Ivy Leauges, I would recommend at least a 2200+. Of course you could get in with lower as there are no…

I attended a seminar about this uni, and it sounds like a very good university with wonderful programmes and wonderful scholarships too. however I've never heard of this uni before, so I don't know if it really has a good reputation. and anyway of course all universities will want to promote their own uni and only say good things about their uni, so I'd like to hear from people (perhaps from Canadians since they're more likely to have heard of this school, but if any non-Canadian is familiar with this uni you're also welcome) what they've heard about this uni, what they think about it, how good it is and whether they would recommend anyone to apply to this uni. thanks bef…

Ok, so here's my situation. In year 10 my school decided to bring in a random compulsory subject called Global Perspectives. We only took it for 2 hours per week, instead of the 4 hours per week that we should have had it, and I don't think any other schools had it as a compulsory subject either, just mine. Everyone thought it was a really bad class. For one of the semesters, I failed or came close to failing a unit due to lack of communication on the teacher's part regarding work due in, and things like that. In the second semester I made up for it though, and got a safe pass. In my whole high school experience (I'm now in year 11) I've worked hard, and received pretty m…

I'm kind of confused about how university applications work. I'm from Ontario, and I want to apply to universities in Ontario. If I apply as an IB student, will they look at my top 6 Ontario grades, or just my final IB score out of 45? Because right now, I'm feeling like top 6 would give me an advantage- my weak subjects wouldn't pull down my average. Also, IB math, french, and TOK last year gave me 4 Ontario credits with 96+%. Whereas my IB score is currently a 14... Can someone explain how this all works out?

One of the universities I'm planning to go to is the University of British Columbia in Canada. A speaker from UBC came to my school once and it sounds really interesting, especially because they seem to prioritize IB students so much. Hopefully, I'd get some kind of scholarship when applying there since it's really expensive to study at UBC for an international student. Anyway, do any of you plan to go there? Or have any of you been there already? What's it like? Quite a few number of students who've graduated from my school have headed there and received partial scholarships rather easily. Vancouver sounds and looks like a really nice place to live.
