On December 15th, 2008 at 9PM MIT gave out the answers to all 5000 early action applicants. Of those only about 500 made it and the rest got either rejected or deferred into the next admissions decision in April where another 300 will be selected. Other than being one of the most selecitve colleges in the world and the top 1 in many engineering careers, it is also said to be an amazing place to live in. As of monday, me and a friend became the first ever MIT admitted students in our school's history; we are extremely happy about this. I'd have to say IB in a way helped so thanks to everyone here for everything, I really loved the forums. Of course I won't stop now and ex…

Hello! I'm Andrea, I'm from Colombia, and I'd like to apply to UC Berkeley for Environmental Engineering and/or Astronomy/Astrophysics. How hard is to get to UCB for International Students? What are the odds of me getting an scholarship and what do I need to do to earn one? And if not, what is the cost?

Hi - I was wondering what it takes to get into Berkeley (Engineering). Im in 11th grade now and my IB score is decent (all 7's and one 4 (math HL =))), I got decent IGCSE scores, but my SAT scores were **** (1940). Im writing the SAT again and i am pretty confident for a 2100 +. Ive got neat extracurriculars - abrsm music, big competitions, science fairs, MUN etc. What more do I need? AND DO I NEED TO TAKE MATH HL?? The subject is damn hard for me, im particularly weak in math. Thanks alot Regards

Hello! I'm starting IB1 this September and I'm considering studying in USA. I'd like to know which subject tests should I take that would have the most in common with the curriculum of my chosen IB subjects. I'm going to take: HL: History Psychology English B SL: Polish A1 Chemistry Maths Methods I took some practice tests on College Board and found World History quite easy (I think I'd only have to do quite a big revision of what I've already studied), I also didn't have much problem with Biology M (weird, since i don't like biology much). So, I'm trying to figure out which SATs II should I take because I'd like to start preparing as soon as possible. And also, which bo…

I know for the UK there are defined requirements for undergraduate study, such as Chemistry HL for medicine, and Math HL for many economics courses. They explicitly list that they want a (6/6/7) or other score on your HLs and course requirements also correspond greatly with IB, as they will often ask for a certain subject at Higher level for certain courses. But for the US, I can find zero information on what subjects they want for different majors. They don't even have any point requirements in most cases. As a person that is currently in the process of choosing the subjects he will do for the next two years, I am going to move very cautiously. I want to take so many s…

I've decided to go to Florida State University. I've decided to go there since they have a really great Meteorology program, and because I get in-state tuition. I've already payed a Housing Deposit to stay on campus, all I have left to do is scrounge up $300 dollars or so for the admissions deposit by May 1st. I've got to pass all of my IB exams too lol, can't forget about those.

Ok, so I'm applying to Columbia University and they require at least 2 subjects tests. They said to take them in your areas of interest, so I decided to definitely take the Literature test (since I'm planning to major in English). I decided that my second one would be Spanish. Should I take the general Spanish test or the Spanish with listening? Does one look better than the other? Is one more difficult than the other?

Hey guys, McGill is my dream school, but I'm a slightly-above-average (based on the class percentages) IB student, who is broke. I don't actually quite know scholarships work--I know there are some scholarships that some schools don't accept? Is that right? I have no idea which scholarships to look for, or which ones McGill accepts. I'm not even sure whether or not I want to use my IB credit for courses. What do you guys suggest? I've heard conflicting advice from teachers, most of whom say they don't recommend it because it's a different course in university than what they teach. Thanks!

Hey guys, First some background info: I got 2200 on my SAT's, 800 in Maths. For my 3 SAT II's, I plan to get roughly 750-800. Im about to enter 2nd semester of IB1, so im not too sure what my scores will be, but im pretty sure i'll be predicted 7's and 6's, probably around 38-42.. I'm going to apply to MIT, Harvard, etc and I need a good safety school? Im an international student, so I don't have a state school in the US to go to. Can you guys make any recommendations?

I've been having a look at college websites and it seems that January 1 is the final submission for all parts of the application. I'm a November candidate, therefore scores are released on the 5th of January. Will I only be able to submit my predicted grades? Or will they let you submit the final grades when they are announced? (I'm thinking they would!). It would be stupid if they didn't haha.

Do you apply with your predicted marks/ib exam marks or regular course marks? Because for ONT, the regular system is you select top 6 and within your ib course, you must also complete 'an ontario' portion of the curriculum so in the end, you have both and ont mark and an ib mark. Which one do you apply with?

Right now in IB, but I took 'regular' classes and want to apply to U of Toronto Im from quebec and i meet the requirements of 6 grade 12 classes, which i have 95% + on all of them. I took them in school and in the summer, so I have them on my transcript. Now, I am getting predicted 29. Well as you can see IB really didnt help me,because I hate half my classes and dont go to them. I'm pretty sure im not going to get a diploma because im predicted a 2 on English HL. And if you're asking why I'm taking 4 HL it is because I wanted to do physics HL and there is no English or History SL, so I am stuck with this. Math HL- 7 Physics HL -7 English HL - 3 History HL - 3 Spanish…

Hello guys. These are my SAT II scores. Unfortunately I won't be able to retake any of them because the deadline has passed and when I did try to sign up for them on the 21st, there weren't any places in my city. Biology 800 Math Level 1 770 Chemistry 710 Most of my universities strongly recommend 3 SAT subject tests. Should I send all three or just send my top 2 (Biology and Math)? Oh, and I'm applying to Biology at: Cornell Johns Hopkins University of Chicago Stanford Boston University Columbia Th…

Before I start, I'll note that I know that getting into any of these schools is incredibly difficult and unlikely, this is just more of a general musing about how much my chances are hurt by this. Anyway, I'm applying to Harvard, Princeton, Yale and Amherst for next year and as my tutor was making my transcript I noticed something I'd forgotten about. Despite the fact I got straight A*s/As at GCSE, got 38 points in my mock exams last year, I'm predicted 40 points and I'm getting great SAT scores, I have a bit of a blip on my transcript as I got a 4 in my Spanish SL end of year exam last year. Usually I'm not one to be a stereotypical panicker because I know it's just one …

Hey people! This is my first post at the forums, so please bare with me! I'm about to start pre-ib next term, and I'm curious as of what extracurricular activities I should engage in to maximize the chances of being admitted at Yale? I've already done quite a few projects wich I think will look good on the app, but I'm unsure of what activities I should proceed with. Also, is ther anyone here who've got any offers from Yale and could perhaps give me a hint of what scores they graduated with? Thanks in advance! Lux et veritas! Ps. The forum is kind of broken on the iPad using Safari, just a heads up.

Have any of you heard anything of Capilano University of Simon Fraser, both located in Vancouver? I have looked at a few universities in Canada but these two caught my attention the most. I don't think I will get an IB score over 35 so I'm not looking for the best uni, just a good one. I want to study Economics near Vancouver. Can anyone tell me if these are any good or if there are other universities in Vancouver that do not require a very high IB score?

Hey guys, So, I have no idea how to apply for Early Decision in Universities in the States. I know that IB students require their predicted grades for admittance, and for me, being a May exam candidate, I don't get my predicted grades until some time in March (I believe, don't quote me on that, but the point is, it's way after the Early Decision application process). A kid from my school applied to ED for Cornell and got accepted, who is in IB, now I don't understand. Is there something I'm missing...? Thanks in advance.

I was wondering if you wanted to apply for early acceptance in Ontario universities for example U of T, when do you apply. Since I am in grade 11 right now and we have SL French and Math in the coming May, is it possible to apply immediately those marks come out. I went on the website and there is not too many information. And for Early acceptance, when do you usually get the results and if you applied for Early and was rejected, is it possible to apply for the regular?

What is up with McGill and IB. They came to our info night for (reggies) at our school and they said for IB they look at ministry marks, but for scholorship they look at IB mark, of which you need 40-41 Exculding bonus marks. WTF? they expect you to get 43+? How is this even possible. And our school doesnt give out ministry marks. Say you get a 60 in Physics IB, thats what you get for ministry, which causes a huge disavantage.

I'm considering going to college in the states, and I am wondering how they feel about math studies. Hey, as the application process is approaching, I'm only discovering how little I actually know about the whole process.. I know the US universities require along with a bunch of other stuff also a high school transcript and a mid-year school report. How exactly, as an IB student, am I supposed to understand this? First of all, high school for me dates back to the 10th grade, where there was no IB yet, do they also want to see my grades in this year? Second, we don't really get any official reports in IB each semester or even year. Do you? Could predicted grades be of any use here? I checked the IBO website and found a form for requesting a transcript but this is basical…
