I've been having trouble lately finding good universities for law that accept IB credits. My counselor at my school told me that only Suny and State funded schools accept IB credits, I'm not too sure to as of what courses I should take and what would be a good school to apply to. I want to become a judge but I heard you have to be a lawyer first and I was wondering if their was a way I could become a judge without becoming a lawyer in new york. The courses I've picked are: IB Visual Arts HL Year 1 IB English HL Year 1 Topics in Algebra 2/ Trig (non-regents course) IB Environmental Systems & SOC SL IB Theory of Knowledge Year 1 IB Spanish Ab initio SL Year 1 IB History…

College Admittance Essay #2 (concerning a trip to Boston and my insecurity) "When I travel I tend to wallow in self-consciousness, as if someone's taking a picture of me, but constantly and from all angles. I want badly to fade into the crowd of people around me, to look native, local. I hate being a tourist and I try, at all costs, to avoid appearing as one. But I have a feeling that the way I hold myself when I'm overcome with the feeling of being a stranger, an outsider, gives me away. I walk with my shoulders swaying too heavily, the map in my back pocket too bulging, and my eyes too frantic and lost. I fake confidence and the sense of being at home so unconvinci…

I've been thinking about this all summer So for undergraduate degree, is it better to get the education in the US or just in Canada? Either way it would be okay for me. I'm thinking about business or computer engineering. And I have a lot of Ca schools in mind, plus Ca education will be less expensive.. If I go to a school in Canada should I still take the SAT? I'm really unsure now and I need to start the prep class soon if I do want to go to the US for school Yeah the point is I'm unable to make a decision; fellow IBers who started planning for university/college, any suggestions?

Hi im an international student currently doing IB. I'm aiming for US universities and im having trouble understanding IB's relation to college admissions in the US and also the structure of the US education system. So from my understanding, i believe that after IB and SATs i would apply to the us colleges as a freshman right? Must i already have a major during freshman year or even in my application? Would the IB subjects that i take means my major would be restricted? For example if i didn't take Math HL i can't study econometrics at university. Correct me if i'm wrong but isn't freshman year the year to take up all the classes you need for your soon to be declared majo…

Hello all! I am planning on studying computer science at university. I live in Nova Scotia, and one of the best university where I live is Dalhousie. I think I want to go there. The other university that I might like to go to is Waterloo. But I really think I'd prefer to go to Dalhousie. However, because Dalhousie is not well known, I'm afraid that I will not be able to be as successful as someone who graduated from Waterloo. All of the big companies like Microsoft and Google recruit almost only people from Waterloo. I really would rather go to Dalhousie though. Will going to Dalhousie disadvantage me? Where do you think I should go?

I really like the atmosphere and the dorms at the University of British Columbia, and from the looks of it they have lower requirements, which is good cause I'm a slacker, but I'm concerned they aren't recognized as highly as the University of British Columbia.

Ok, so I'm planning to apply to several top-tier universities in the US this year and I'm at a loss at to what to expect from the admission process. I know the importance admission officers give to SATs in the US, but I figured that being from Peru and as many US universities are not very familiar with the education system here, they'd really focus on my SATs...but then I have my IB's - which one will have more weight when they're deciding if I get admitted? I plan to major in anything environmental science-related, maybe with a focus on international policy I'm planning to apply to: Princeton Columbia Dartmouth NYU Johns Hopkins Stanford Course (Predicted) Chemistry HL (…

But i talked to them and they said that i first have to complete 2 years of undergrad studies beforehand and i dont wanna do anything in Western Ontario, but wanna go to McGill. Hi everyone, I was just wondering if anyone has had any experience with McGill university and IB (scholarships, acceptance, etc). I can't decide between going there or going to the states. If McGill doesn't suck I would like to go there as it will probably be much less expensive. I don't graduate for another two years but I'm just curious. Thanks!

All right. I've just begun the insanity called "filling out college applications" and believe I got a bit too swept up. I recently opened an account on Common Ap and was just going through the things when I got to the Release Authorization section under School Forms. I wasn't exactly sure what it was for, but I filled it out and checked the "No, I do not waive my right of access" box. Am I in trouble? Should I have not checked that part? Help please.

I come from a very repressed country which is why i dont think ill be able to fit in to montreal. im not very outspoken at first, mainly to strangers, but am to my friends. thanks

I had heard that IB students typically get 30 credits from McGill, thus pushing them into their U1/second year at the university. No, I am not talking about transfer credits. However, when I was looking at my unofficial transcript, it said that I only received 28. I called McGill, and somebody told me that "28 credits was already really good." Now, I know what you're thinking - "2 credits isn't that big of a deal." No, it really isn't, but it really could mean an extra course for me. Seeing as how my schedule's already looking to be quite jam-packed, I'll barely have time for this extra course over my next 3.5/4 years in Montreal. Anybody care to shed some light into this…

Hi! Ok. here is what has happened. I as you can see finished my IB this year. But I finished my IB Maths a year earlier. I thought when I sent my request of transcript, I assumed they will send my 2009 score too. But apparently, that was not the case. 2 weeks ago, I got a message from my teacher and coordinator saying that Oxford requests my score on Maths HL from 2009. I was moving so all of my loads are in a ship right now, which means my Diploma paper is in a ship. Then, here is where the trouble happens. My coordinator said that she will send my score on Tuesday last week. Then, she was diagnosed with cancer last MONDAY and she could not send my score; she is obviousl…

Although I am totally obsessed with animals, and I'd love nothing more than to be a vet, there;s a few other choices I'd love to THINK about, but not sure what they really are, and Google isn't giving much I didn't know before: 1.) Journalism: I always have this idea that I can write amazing articles or columns for Time or other big companies (which has a slim chance of happening). However, what IS journalism, really? Do you take English in university? How do you find jobs? I love writing essays (this is Pre-IB experience btw, so far). 2.) I like going to places. Is it possible for me to know whether I will receive a scholarship BEFORE I apply to a college in the USA? I ask this because a lot of second or third-tier US colleges e.g. UCLA, Boston U, U of Washington, while very good, are not worth the ~USD$50K annual fees to me, since I could attend UBC or U of Toronto (which I think is on a similar level to those second-tier US colleges) as a Canadian citizen and only have to pay CAD$5000 a year. I don't want to waste university applications on these US second-tier colleges if I have to pay the full USD$50k in fees, but if I receive a scholarship or significant financial aid it's a whole different story. I hope you can understand …

I know some people think it is pointless to take a language that they already speak, but I thought if I get a full mark it will look good on my application...or will it? Just it case the language test doesn't help the application, I will still have two other SAT subject test scores to send (physics and math). However I highly extremely doubt that I will do well on my physics SAT. That is why I am wondering if I can still make it to a good college with a perfect Chinese SAT score, even though I am a native speaker. Any ideas?
