Hello... I've decided to apply to some colleges in the US as well as the UK, but I'm having some snafoos with the Common App. Question 1.) The questions are simple enough, but the problems come with the Secondary School section. You see, I graduated from high school in the US in 3 years, which means I have a GPA, class rank, ACT scores, etc. And now, I'm starting my last year of IB in Finland, meaning that I have two different secondary schools that I could put on the list. The section says "School You Now Attend (or school you graduated from)". But I'm assuming that this applies to people who have taken a skip year(s) but are still applying as freshmen. So according to …

I did not have a change to do more than 4 GCSEs which happen to exclude Maths & Double Sciences. Therefore I'm thinking of taking SATs Subject Tests in Maths 2, Bio and Chem (not sure about taking SAT 1 since I do not intend to apply for US college, but who knows if I will change my mind). I'm unsure about which publisher to buy from and how long it would take to revise for a subject, can you give me some suggestions? Thanks a lot in advance!

Hey everyone... I was wondering whether someone could help me and inform me of the admission requirements of the University of Waterloo, Canada. I am planning to study Computer Science. Does anyone know what they expect in particular? In addition, what are the best universities in Canada for Computer Science?

From the results of my school and friends abroad, I have found that in this years US admission cycle, there is no apparent correlation between SAT scores and university acceptance. However that being said, for the ED rounds of ivy league schools, the SAT score standard has still been high, with the median of the admitted people to Dartmouth College being 2300. It is wonderful that in these past few days there were major celebrations for some of my classmates, as they thanked god that they have been admitted to their supposedly 'reach' schools. Others remain disappointed and anxious after being rejected from their supposedly 'safeties'. When, in the first place, the univer…

How important is IB to universities in the US? I would really like to go to Brown or Darthmouth. I have pretty good SAT/ACT scores and GPA plus some extracurricular activities. I would like your opinion on whether doing IB will really improve my chances of getting into those schools, or if I should focus more attention on leadership and extracurriculars. If I do work on starting a club or something like that, I'm afraid I wouldn't have as much energy for IB stuff. Basically, I would like to know whether US unis prefer IB or extracurricular activities. I didn't see another thread about this, but if there is, sorry and could you please point it out? Thanks in advance for y…

Most of the seniors from my high school are apparently just abandoning their IB credits in favour of "repeating" the course in university so that they can boost up their GPAs. I'm just wondering if this is common in other Canadian high schools or is it just mine? So, yeah - are you guys planning to transfer your IB credits over or not? And does anyone know how this would affect your cGPA at the end of your freshman uni year? And if you're applying for postgrad education, how would they calculate the cGPA if you're using your IB credits? :|

Hello , Im a IB-student in Sweden and I like to play basketball a lot...I play on a competitive level in a basketball club.. I wonder is it very hard to get a scholarship to US if you are a international student? And is it anyway you can play College basketball if you just a regular international student who is attending to the college which has basketball? Does anyone know if there is any university team in other country especially in Europe such as UK , France, Spain , italy , Greece and more? And cant you do the ACT instead of the SAT arent them the same or similar tests?

i pretty much went through my entire junior year not realizing that it was extremely important. so i finished both semesters with a GPA of 2.0 (3.0 because of honors). i haven't done ANY extracurricular activities, gotten awards, done community service or CAS hours. yep, and i had no idea that we're supposed to apply to colleges by this fall !!! but it's extremely important that i go to UCI. on a scale of 1-10, 1 being not screwed at all and 10 being screwed, how screwed are my chances of getting into UCI? and how less screwed would i be if i tried to redeem myself senior year?

Well, I was accepted at these two schools and I must decide between one. Basically, McGill seems to have a better name internationally, seems to be better structured and organized, but U of T has a nicer city, program is more practical (which appeals to me) and seems to offer a better electrical engineering course in general. So what now? I have also pasted a copy of the letter I've sent to my school describing my experience when visitng the schools.

Hello Well, I'm really not sure how to start this. I am a resident of California, to start . I would truly love to go to UC Davis for college.. but, during my sophomore year of high school, I received a GPA that was slightly higher then a 3.0. I was taking 4 Pre-IB classes and 2 standard classes. Needless to say, I really messed up...and I understand that. :\ During sophomore year I was very immature and didn't take the severity of the situation seriously. I had done very well 8th grade and Freshman year, but I am told that Sophomore and Junior year are the grades colleges look at on applications. Next year, I will be an IB Diploma Candidate. Many of you might analyze wh…

Well next year I'm going to be in gr11 IB and I was wondering from people who have already been in the software engineering program or people that just know about it approximately what the cutoff score is. Right now I basically got through not doing much work (yes I know that wasn't a good idea) but understanding all the concepts but just not working much because it was a bit too easy. I'm getting 90s in ICS (computer programming) in a school that is well known for its programming. Mid 80s in Math (keep in mind that i wasn't trying but i predict mid 90s for the next years). And everything else basically in the range of mid 80s to mid 90s. I was relaxing after all my frien…

Hello. I was wondering if you guys could give me any information you guys had on Cornell, since I have a lot of interest in applying there. I was also wondering what kind of IB score I would need in order to get in? Finally, if I were to apply to Cornell, could you see any problems arising if I took Math Studies? I would like to take something like English Literature or Political Science, and I'm pretty sure that neither one of those involves TOO much math. However, because I heard that a lot of engineering students go to Cornell, I still wonder if it is an issue. Thanks!

Okay, so I really don't know which SAT I should take. (btw sorry in advance if this is in the wrong subforum or something) I could take either any of the above, and I'm not sure which 3 would make the best combo. Would you consider the following statements/pieces of information, then recommend 3 choices? I am currently in grade 10, Sophamore, and will be in grade 11 next year, officially starting IB 1. -I covered ecology this year in biology -I am taking Biology HL next year -I have a lot of free time to study biology, so I could take either one -I am a Chinese person living in Hong Kong, and therefore would get 780-800 on SAT 2 Chinese -I am a great student of English li…

My mom's been going on about getting me to do the SATs and get accepted into an Ivy League. She believes that it'll improve my life and paycheck in the future, as opposed to me attending a school in Canada. While I wouldn't necessarily oppose doing them, I'd have to cram it in to the October and November examinations later this year, and who even knows if I'll get a good mark, since that will also be the beginning of Year 2 for me. Plus, I always have CAS and piano that I have to do, and I don't necessarily have lots of time to be studying for SATs too, on top of all that. So, I was just wondering - to what extent is the rumor true that going to American schools is so muc…

So I have not yet entered IB but will be doing so next year, and I have a few questions. I am a very dedicated student and am willing to study hard, so workload is not too huge an issue. My dream school is Harvard Law. I want to know if Universities like Harvard really care whether you take the full diploma program or just go for the certificates. If i go for the certificates, I can easily do more extracirriculars, but I am planning on volunteering, doing Model UN, and possible tutoring either way. What would you recommend? What sort of a difference is there in the workload? Do universities even care if you DO take IB? I am very serious about law, and am willing to do any…

I am in Canada. Hence, we're not required to write our SATs... for Canadian universities... However, I also plan to apply to U.S. universities next year... & Thus I want to write my SATs Now, our school has provided us with absolutely no information about those. So, I have a couple of questions: 1) Can you take the subject tests before the reasoning test? 2) Can I take two subject tests on a certain date and the third one on another date? 3) What skill level/grade must you have passed to do well on your SAT subject tests? What would you choose? Ok guys, I need your opinions. I got accepted to Duke and Amherst with almost identical scholarships, covering all of my expenses. Right now, I believe I'll major in Maths, with two minors, in some part of Economics and in instrumental performance (saxophone). I'm a huge sports fan, coming from a small city in Bosnia with warm climate... Hello! Today, two people with 45 predicted scores at our school didn't get into Harvard. I was so sad for them. One other person got in though and he is a complete retard (lower score and SAT score + snobby behaviour + presidencies of random clubs that he didn't even deserve because he missed all the meetings and sh*t)....sooooo...I am happy for the guy. He's still smart with anybody's standards, but it seems like American universities pick international students at random. Or otherwise, they're too picky with specifics. I might have a chance of living with an uncle or an aunt in the US for my entire senior year in some Washington IB school IF that really affects the odds…

I heard that universities in the U.S really like to see some reference to work experience on our applications, and so far, all I've got are one week of compulsory work experience at a hospital (In Australia, there is a tradition of making year 10 students go out to the workforce for a week), and another week of voluntary work shadowing at a science lab. With the amount of work I've got and all the extra-curricular activities, I really don't think I have the organization or persistence to keep a part-time job without influencing my grades. Would that influence my chances of getting into a good U.S uni?

I have a 2100 SAT score, a possible 40/45 on my IB diploma, a Performer's ARCT in piano and a few EC music theory credits. I go to the gym every week to train, I do swimming and I am joining track and field. I'm in band and a small jazz ensemble. I have won a few math contests and music competitions. I perform very often and I have good supplementary material if asked for. I will also have a decent bit of volunteer hours. I always wanted to go to an Ivy League, but the problem is that I don't have many leadership activities which are crucial. What American universities can I get into? You know from this year IB students do not need to count the number of hours of CAS activities (meaning that we need only "commitment' for activities, not 150 hours of CAS). But I still do think that the university wants to see how many hours we have spent for service, since they really value extra-curricular activities.. Plus, if we just pass CAS and show what we have done for CAS, how the universities know that I have actually spent much more hours than other people? So I am really confused.. no one in my school is not counting CAS hours, but I am not sure if it's okay.

heres an extremely good site, if you still don't know which college fits for you. http://princetonreview.com/ they have this cool option where they tell you "type" of environment the school is, from the student prospective. It also lists the basics about the student population and maybe some new ongoing stuff with regards to the school. they also do alot of rankings, from best campus food to hardest to get into, great features. they provide "good match" schools, "reach schools", and safety schools base on what you fill in.
