Does anyone know the deadlines that are given to IB examiners to read through and mark eg science IAs (chemistry)? Is there eg a certain date (perhaps in June?) when all examiners (regardless subject and the assessment component that they examine) must insert their marks into whatever system they use so that the IBO can guarentee that the diplomas will be awarded in early July? What's the pace at which an examiner must read and mark IAs?

Hello! So I will be attending UWC next year and I want to do a physics major in university in the US or UK. I have already completed 2 years out of 3 years of high school so I already have good kbowledge in math, physics, chemistry, biology, technology, history, geography, french, arabic, english. I am pretty good in scientific subjects so here is my list of potential ib subjects next year: Math HL (further studies) Physics HL English A Environmenal and Social Studies SL (as a social science) French B Computer Science SL Does this list make me elligible for a physics major? And should I take chemistry SL instead of Comput…

I’m going to study the IB next year and I’m thinking of taking Biomedical Engineering in uni. I love Biology, so I was thinking of choosing it as my Science Subject. However, I’ve been told that I have to choose Maths HL and Physics HL in order to be accepted in an university to study Engineering. Is it true? Can’t I take Maths HL and Biology HL, instead of Physics HL? PS I’m going to study the IB in an international school (because I applied to UWC, don’t know if you have ever heard about it) but I’m in the middle of high school right now, so I have already had 2 years of Physics (and Chemistry and Biology). Next year would be my last year of high school but …

Hey guys, brand new to the website so here's my first post : I'm starting the IB next year after finishing my fifth year of MYP (Middle Years Programme). I am currently debating between some course choices and was wondering if anyone had opinions about them. Keep in mind I would like to study Accounting and Finance, my current average grade is 5.7/7 and my strongest subjects are English, Math (Extended) and Humanities or Science. My current choices are : HL : Economics, English Lang & Lit A, Global Politics SL : Math AA, Physics and my mother tongue Finnish A Lit I am trying to get my Finnish switched to B HL, however, my college couns…

I received my IB exam results and was devastated to discover that I have failed by 1 point. I achieved a 24 overall but failed to get 12 HL points. (Got 11!) What makes it worse is that I am 1-2 points off the next (higher) grade in each HL subject. French: Achieved 4 (1 point needed to obtain 5) Biology: Achieved 4 (2 points needed to obtain 5) Chemistry: Achieved 3 (2 points needed to obtain 4) What do I do now? Remark? Retake chemistry (which I struggled with all year 🤔 would that include redoing my practical?) I feel sick to my stomach😩😖 can’t think straight.

Hello guys, I am here to ask you guys a few opinions and facts to clarify for me. I am taking comp sci and math sl, which in the first year i took it with a teacher but the teacher didn't really teach us anything in math. In comp sci he only teach us basic wordings and problems not java or anything. I submitted my CS IA (i think it will do well) and he says that I will get only a 1. He basically hates us male students so he also gave me a 1 predicted grade, i just did the mock exam, i understand and know how to do it well, but he graded me so pettily it's stupid. And in math we had a new teacher he is better than him. What happens if he graded me so poorly and unfairly, w…

Hi, I'm choosing my subjects this year. Actually, I've already chosen before even coming to pre-IB, but now, as it all became serious I started having doubts... What do you think of applying to med school with maths studies taken? Does any of you do that? I'm afraid I won't get a good grade with maths on SL, it just seems so complicated and I have never really been good at maths.

So it is kind of a vague subject but i just wanted to know who does what in IB. I have seen and met almost all of the IB students at my school and they are all very different people. I wanted to know what are you like in the program. are you the straight A student who gets everything, or are you one who tries and tries and barely squeezes a C or are you a person that is barely noticed, not doing great but not horrible? i am curious because i want to know what you were like before and after IB. maybe i am speaking in tongues and should be silenced.

I have a friend who is pretty upset about IB. With the mock exams, EE pressure, and all the internal and external deadlines, I can see he is stressed out. Does anyone have any tips on how to deal with the pressure and perfectionist expectations (no one expects you to get a 7 in everything)? It can be personal accounts on how you improved your scores, how to not freak out, or anything of the sort. I just want to cheer my friend up and help them because I genuinely think they have the potential to get 40+.

Hey guys! Basically, I took Physics SL instead of ESS. Now I have a 4 in Physics regardless of how much time I put into it. I just don't get the concepts most of the time as it seems the practice we get is always much easier than the actual exam. Semester 1 of 11th grade has ended a couple weeks ago and I will meet with my IB Coordinator in 2 days. I want to switch from Physics SL to ESS. What is the best thing to say to persuade my coordinator to let me switch?

Hi all. I am working on my Computer Science IA, and am worried about Criterion C- Complexity. Apparently complexity can be added by adding features into our code, like recursion, 2D arrays etc, but is it ok to add these features even if it worsens the program's performance/slows it down, but does the job? I can then talk about how it might not have been the most effective solution in the evaluation section. Would this work?

Hi guys, I am in a second semester of 11 grade now, and taking a HL: Econ, Geo, English, and SL: Math, Chemistry and self taught. I am targeting LSE and UCL; however, doesn't have enough data for UCL... LSE -> BSc Econometrics and Mathematical Economics or BSc Economics. And I heard that the minimum point for applying should be above 37 (HL: 6, 6, 7). In this case, does Econ have to be a grade 7 subject? I mean what if I get 6 from Econ and 7 from Geo or English? Because my major is Econ. It could be an issue? Another problem is SL math. From the official web page, HL math isn't mandatory but still preferred. So, what if I make SAT 2 math instead of t…

Hello everyone. I live in Dubai and go to an IB school. This is my first year in the IB and honestly I haven't done too well. My grades have been a bit over the place mainly because of the things that I prioritise over school, such as friends etc. I may have to move back to Finland, where I am from, at the end of this year and was wondering if it would be possible to repeat the first IB year again, as none of the schools there have all the subjects that I want to take. Has it been done before, and what are your general opinions on redoing the first year of IB. Personally I would see it as a chance to get my grades higher and be able to learn to make better choices. H…

hey, I'm doing my math standard level IA on the age height relation amongst humans and comparing it the with the age height relationship of sunflowers. for the age height relationship of humans, I used Pearson's correlation coefficient, found the line of best fit, and talked about interpolations in my data. for the age height relationship of sunflowers, I found the x and y-intercepts and made 2-word problems. word problem one talked about at which week I would get maximum height and word problem 2 was when the seeds germinated from the ground. I need help with making my IA more complex as I want to do very well. how can I do this?

Heyy! I am a student who is currently in Y11 and is going to study the IB Diploma starting next year. I would like to study astrophysics or law in uni and here are my current option choices: HL Physics, Maths AA, English Lit SL Economics, Spanish, Chemistry The problem here is that I absolutely love theatre but equally love chemistry and so I cannot choose between the to. The majority of the universities I have looked at and even spoken to do not have chemistry as a requirement but a few recommend having two sciences instead on one. I am passionate about both subjects, get the same grades in both (around an A/A*) and don't have a requirement for them in th…

I took 10 IGCSEs in June 2019 (edexcel sciences which are practically A JOKE compared to IB HL sciences) got a 9 for Biology and Physics, and an 8 for Chemistry. (graded by the new 9-1 grading system) and took CIE IGCSEs in Economics, Eng Lang, Computer Science, Mandarin 2nd lang (4As), Eng Lit, Music (2Bs) and Additional Math (1C) (pretty much the reason why I am writing this post). I also took IGCSE CIE extended math in June 2018 (A). Hello everyone! I will clearly describe my case. There are two people involved: me and my colleague. I attend Physics HL, my colleague attends SL. We are tutored by two different teachers. I was given a task to investigate Hooke' law, and write a Lab Report from that experiment. This was my very first LR. Deadline: two weeks after conduction of research. I wrote a work and gave it to submission. SL group had the same task, but given later. My work was already checked before the deadline of SL. My Lab Report was the best in the group. After "moderation" I started boasting myself: "F*** yeah, 14 on 18 points!". My colleague asked me if I could borrow him my LR, because his …

Hello everyone. I have received my IB results, and unfortunately, the only thing standing between me and the 45 score is the EE/TOK. I have scored 7s in all my subjects, but B/B in TOK/EE. I am 4 marks away from the A in each one. Is it likely that remarking works with these two subjects? And which one do you recommend that I remark? I just need an A in either to get the 3 total bonus marks and thus a 45. Thank you

Hi I’m an Ib student currently doing grade 11, I have lived and studied on a small island for the past 8 years. Even though In a way I like it here this school year has opened my eyes to factors that make me and my family in a position to consider to move to Europe. It would allow us to initially become more happier, for my mum to start working and for me to be able to look at universities and take all the subjects I truly want to take (some are not offered in my current school) also move from a place where there is nothing to do. We started looking for schools and found one in Europe where we might see our future. Unfortunately they won’t accept me this year and want me…

Hello, I am a junior and currently taking my first year of IB. I am planning to major in business or economics in college, and am currently taking HL Physics, HL Math application, HL Visual art, economics for SL. I am planning to go to the US or Canada for college, and I know that the requirements for the IB subjects is not as strict as it is in the UK, so I was wondering if I should take HL Physics or take SL Physics and raise economics to HL, because I like both subjects, but I am struggling with Physics right now. How different in terms of difficulty is HL physics and Sl physics? Also, if HL physics would benefit my future career, then I am ough…

Hi I am starting the 2 year long DP program next year and i am super scared. I've been looking at IB results reaction videos and IB horror stories and seeing that so many people got results they did not expect, i am scared. I am really worried that i'll do bad on my exam or mess something up in my finals. I am also really really stressed that in year 11 I won't have enough time to study or will not get the concepts and not understand stuff to the extent that the IB requires. It has always been my dream to get into medicine and to do that in Australia, I need an IB of 42. Just thinking about that makes me really stressed because i don't know if i am smart enough to get 7's…

Hey guys, I am stuck for my extended essay research question in Geography. I am doing mine on the Great Ocean Road, in Australia, and I initially wanted to look at the impacts of tourism and evaluating the effectiveness of regional policies to that promote sustainable tourism in the region. However, I figured that it is a relatively new topic and there isn't data that show improvements after the policies have been taken. So I was thinking of doing instead on the impacts of climate change on the region, but I feel like it's a very common topic. Do you guys have any advice? Should I stick to the first topic?? Thanks! Hi, I'm sort of having a dilemma with my courses for next year. I'm currently in pre-IB (grade 10) and am entering IB next year. We already picked our courses, but there will be a day where changes to our courses can be changed. So currently, my courses for the next two years are: HL English (Lang/Lit) HL Biology HL History SL Chem SL Math SL French But, the thing is, I'm debating on switching HL History to HL Business. I'm going into sciences, so neither will really help me. I pretty much have no interest in either business or history either, but they're the only HL humanities that my school offers. Now, HL History is a hell lot of work. That I know. But the His…

So I'm at a bit of a dilemma here. I recently moved to Germany from Kenya at the beginning of this school year and I have been very disappointed. I don't feel like this is the environment I fit into and overall I don't enjoy being here as much as I wish to. This combined with deep nostalgia for Kenya has led me to talk to my parents about it and figure out something. My dad has since started looking for jobs in Kenya again and there is a possibility of moving back for the beginning of the semester. My problem is I can't seem to able to figure out whether it is better for me to move mid IB1 or tell my parents we can wait until the end of the school year. This is because I'…
