  2. i wanted to ask if these subjects are okay? 1. Art HL 2. English LangLit HL 3. Business and Management HL 4. Math Applications and Interpretations SL 5. Chinese B SL one year 6. DT SL
  3. Hello, I'm starting the IB in September. I want to major in Psychology and my subject choices so far are Bio HL, Eng Lang and Lit HL, History HL, French B SL, Math I&A SL, which leaves me with one more opening to complete the requirements. My school doesn't offer IB psychology anymore, and I suck at Chem so so I have to choose between Business Management and Economics. Which one should I choose? After reading the syllabus, textbooks etc, I was thinking of doing Econ because it looks more interesting, but I'm still unsure. Thank you in advance.
  4. Hi everyone, I need help!! I need to take an art at high level, but I'm very bad bot at theatre bot music so I was thinking about taking visual arts. However, I'm not very good at drawing, if I have time and strive I can maybe draw good (but of course not perfectly). I was wondering if someone could give me some advice and tell me how good do you need to be to take visual art HL. Thank youuuu
  5. Hello! I'll be starting the IB in August, which is very exciting, but there is one thing that has been on my mind lately: my subject choices. Our choices had to be made a few months ago. During that time of choosing I decided to go with 4 HLs. At first my intention was to take the three subjects which were English A Lang. and Lit. Biology Chemistry But, because history has always interested me, I decided to add it my list of HL subjects. A reason for my choice was that I had this idea that getting a good grade in HL History is easier due to the fact that Paper 3 in the
  6. Hey, I'm going to start IB in September 2019 and so far my subject choices are: English B HL Geography HL Biology HL Chemistry HL Maths SL Polish Lit SL I was wondering if choosing English A SL and dropping English B HL isn't a better option. I would love to study medicine in the future but I'm taking Geo HL because I love this subject (and I've heard it's relatively easy) and then I still have the possibility to change my mind and study a course connected with Geography at the university. Do you think that English A SL is 'harder' than English B H
  7. Hey guys, I was wondering if the following subjects would allow me to take an Economics Course in the top colleges in the United States, especially Ivy leagues? I am keeping the option of Ivy Leagues open here. I have taken the combination based on the idea of managing my academics with personal developments and creativity. (Balance between logic and creativity). I do have an interest in Media and designing. I could replace CS with DT if required to show colleges the idea of handling challenges. I have just finished an MYP course. 1. English HL 2. Math AI HL 3. E
  8. Hey, I am currently in Grade 10 doing my MYP at an International School in Germany. I joined the IB system in January 2018 (which means I am at the school for 1 1/2 years now). Right at the beginning, I was offered to go to the English A course, however, I chose not to because I wanted to focus on the other subjects as everything was in a different language (used to study at a German School). After I finished 9th grade, (transferred into 10th) my English teacher offered me to move up again, but my family situation is quite tricky, so I missed the deadline and therefore stayed in English B ): A
  9. I have to choose my subjects this week and am wondering if HL bio is worth it for me. I wouldn't consider myself a very science-y person, although i am very interested in plants, evolution, dna, neurobiology and that kind of stuff. I am not at all interested in the human body, (find it unpleasant, really) and just the thought of dissecting something makes me queasy. I don't have any big problems with memorising content, i am more scared of writing lab reports. Will this be a big problem? Also is it very hard to use microsoft excel in bio for graphs and such? Would very much appreciate any guid
  10. Hey guys, I just made my account to ask questions regarding my subject choices. I am interested in computer science and engineering so I want subjects that keep these choices open. My thoughts are: 1) Computer Science HL Maths HL English B HL Business Management SL Greek SL Physics SL 2) Maths HL Physics Hl German HL ESS SL Business management SL Greek SL which one would be better? My level of German is B2-C1 so I won't have a problem.
  11. Hello! I need to make my subject selections for DP soon and I'm kind of conflicted between taking Business management or English Language and Literature HL. Consider that I'm already taking double sciences (Bio and Chem) HL, and I was initially fixed on Business HL but I'm scared it will be too much. Can anyone tell me which subject would be more tolerable to be studied with double sciences HL?
  12. Hi, I'm currently in pre-IB and I have to choose my IB courses for next year. I know for sure that I want these classes: - Spanish AB Initio - Math SL - Economics SL - English HL - Chem HL For my last subject, I'm not sure if I should choose Bio HL or Art HL. I want to study dietetics in university. I was first going to choose Bio HL but we had a talk about classes with our IB coordinator and he said not to choose classes based just on what you think you'll need for university. So now I'm confused on what to pick. I enjoy both bio and art. I plan t
  13. I am in MYP5 and I am undecided about my choices. I want to either study in Portugal or the UK. I want to either to study finance or computer science. The subjects I want to take are: Economics HL Math HL Spanish B HL Portuguese Lit. SL Eng. Lang and Lit. SL Physics SL I am forced to do Portuguese and English. One has to be Lang. and Lit. and the other has to be Lit.. My first language is portuguese, and I do much better in portuguese than in english. Which one is harder though? Lang. and Lit or just Lit.? Do universities prefer one over the other
  14. Hi, I am currently an MYP student and the time to choose my subjects for next year is coming up so I just wanted some advice on what people thought of my choices and whether I'm biting off more than I can chew. For background knowledge about my subject choices, I'm aiming to get into a CS college. HL - Math, Physics, Computer Science SL - English, Spanish, ESS I know that chemistry is traditionally a subject for CS but I'm personally very bad with the subject and I've heard that HL and SL chem are quite difficult, and considering the fact that my HL's are already quite rigorous
  15. Hi guys, I'm in my 1st year of DP and our EE coordinator told us to start writing up a proposal for our EE. Now I have a slight dilemma with my subject choices: I really want to do either History or Visual Arts, however, there is an issue with both of them. History: I want to pursue a career in History and I was going to take it up as an IB subject but since we do not have a DP History teacher, I did not - would it be wise to do an EE in a subject that it is not a subject of mine and has a MYP supervisor? I would like to add, though, that I really do like History. Visual Arts:
  16. Hey there, I am in the middle of 10th grade now and we have to hand in our IB Subject Choices in a few weeks. Until now, I have gotten a few ideas on what to pick for the IB, however I am not sure if this is ideal for law, or if it's maybe a bit too difficult... What I have come up with was: HL: English Language & Literature, History, Economics SL: Biology, German A Language & Literature, Maths SL Would be great if any of you could comment on improvements or changes I could make for my choices. Also adding a reason would be great. Thanks in advance
  17. Hey guys! I'm starting IBDP soon and am thinking about taking the following subjects English A (Language and Literature) HL Spanish SL Math SL (Math HL is not an option for me) Business and Management HL Economics HL Biology SL I am 99% sure that I want to pursue a business degree after high school and am currently looking at applying to Canada (UBC, UofT, YorkU). I was wondering if taking both BnM and Econ is a bad decision. Do universities really prefer that you take only one of the two? Even if you want to do your undergrad in business?
  18. Hey guys, Basically I'll be starting the DP this September so I was just wondering if someone could help me out with my subject choices. For my undergraduate, I plan to do the Classics or Classical studies in the UK or USA and I have decided to do the following subjects: HL Subjects - English (language and literature) - History - French (language acquisition) ITGS SL subjects - Mathematical studies - Environmental sciences - Physics I couldn't make up my mind between physics and chemistry since I like them both but neither will be of any
  19. Hello! I'm a tenth-grade student planning on doing the IBDP for my junior and senior year. As we are beginning our second semester soon, we are required to pick out our subjects for IB. I had a couple of concerns as when I told people about the subjects I'm intending to take, they said I would face a hard time. I'm hoping to study engineering at university, hopefully, either chemical and biomolecular engineering. I'm also hoping to get into a top university as it would help me so much! The subjects I'm planning on doing are; -Physics HL -Math HL -Chemistry HL -Economics HL
  20. I am wondering if this would be a good subject combo: HL Economics HL Biology HL English (not sure yet if I want lang & lit or lit) SL Math SL Finnish SL Chemistry Unfortunately I have no idea where I want to study after the IB, or what I want to study. I am wondering if these seem like subject choices that wouldn't close too many doors for me. The thing that troubles me the most is if it is "useless" to take HL bio without taking HL chemistry with it. I don't enjoy chemistry that much, but then again I've always had horrible teachers which has drawn me a
  21. I am currently enrolling in the diploma program and I'm taking math hl, physics sl and chem hl. I am wondering should i worry about the universities later and focus on my subjet choices that will get me through ib, or select my subject choices based on my targeted uni? Help
  22. So I'm two months into my first year IB and our Head thinks that my subject combinations are odd. Subjects: HL: English Business Management Psychology SL: Environmental Studies and Strategies Math studies French ab initio My initial plan was to double major in English and Business and had Psych as a back up. But i soon realized i was more interested in Psychology than Business. Our school requires us to submit our final subjects according to our university choices. The head thinks that this combination comes neither in Arts-Humanities nor Commerce
  23. I am an IB student in Denmark and I am currently planning on applying to universities in Scotland and Ireland I want to know if Math studies is generally looked down upon, even if you are applying to the humanities/social sciences I am planning to apply to either English lit. or History courses at Edinburgh uni, St. Andrews uni, University of Glasgow, University of Dundee, Aberdeen uni and Trinity college Dublin Will universities prefer Math SL students even if they have a lower grade?? (it's likely that I will achieve a 7 in Math Studies) Thanks

    Subject Choices

Common question I know but i really need some help. I'm joining IB this year and I'll be focusing on something English career wise I think. So based on that, could i get some tips on subject selection? That does make a difference right? My school offers these subjects: English Lit French Business management/ Economics psychology physics.chem/bio Mathematics visual arts So I was thinking of going with this combo: English Lit [HL] French [sl] Business management/Eco [HL] Bio [HL} Math [ SL or studies I'm not sure but basicall
  25. I'm beginning the IB in September, and I've just been told I can't do my exact choices because they don't fit with the school's columns. My original subject choices were:English Literature SL, French B SL, History SL, Economics HL, Physics HL, and Maths HL. As I can't do History SL with French B SL I've decided to do French B HL, and now I need to decide between Physics and Maths to standardise (I've been told that these two subject are both really hard anyway so maybe this is a blessing in disguise!). I'm generally good at sciences and maths and have predicted A*'s in both at GCSEs
