I'm considerably scared for the math exam. It's my first IB exam which adds to the anxiety I feel like i'm going to fail Also, my teacher hasn't even told us our predicted grades which she said she would do a while back... How hard is the exam? What were your scores (and how hard did you study for it)? Thanks

So my teacher is giving us a month to work on our IA's and I'm really confused and flustered at the moment. We are supposed to come in with a topic as soon as possible and I'm having trouble choosing my topic. I was thinking something along the lines of going to different stores and buying the same brand of cookies from each store and seeing which is the better deal? Or maybe buying those party bags of chocolate candies (the ones where they have different types of chocolate in one bag) and seeing which store has the most even distribution of each candy. (I dont even know if that makes any sense....) Any help is appreciated xoxo

I'm just starting my IA now and its due in a few months but i want to make sure this topic area is OK before i put in too many man-hours. At first i was going to do a comparison of GDP and Geograhy but stats sort of freak me out and i know NOTHING about economics (wooo HL History!). In lieu of that i have decided to base my IA in probability, an area i appreciate much more and have a decent grasp of. My idea is to flip a coin 60 or 70 times for experimental data and then compare this to theoretical data. I will use the kai (?) squared test but the two other processes i am hesitant about. The second is just graphical analysis i.e. putting the points onto the graph and cal…

Hi guys I started the IB about a week ago, and I'm pretty worried about Maths. I'm taking it at Studies Level - and for now we haven't don't much so I can't tell if it's hard or not. However, in pre-IB years I took Maths Standard and I ended with about a 3. Will I be fine in Studies if I work hard?

So I joined up to post my IA survey - which is here - 'cause I need at least 100 people but I only have 37. There are six questions about internet usage and the questions with *'s next to them are multiple answer. I would be really grateful if you could spare five to ten seconds of your time. Thank you in advance, Jennie

Hello, this is just my survey that I've created for my IA and it would be lovely if some of you lovely people could complete it for me! I say that it's best to do if you're British just because it's very UK specific, but please do it by all means if you live elsewhere and happen to know a little about British newspapers/politics! Thank you! http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/SSTLTW5

Hi! I really need some help regarding my IA in Math Studies. My topic is 'Is there a connection between Christian youths beliefs and their parents religious beliefs in Kristiansand?' The survey consisted of 7 questions with different options so that you could mark the one that fitted. I delivered it to about 70 people at the Christian gatherings at the four public school in town. Now that I have got the answers back, I am not sure what to do with them. I don't know how many of my questions that is relevant and how many I should use... I am thinking of using the Chi-Squared test and other statistical processes, but I don't know what to do. The questions I asked was …

Hey, does anyone know what the red questions are in our maths books? Are these the 'extension' questions (as in, not on the syllabus)? Or did they just decide to go a little crazy and spice up the colouring? The ones that I'm talking about specifically are those in Chapter 21: Differential Calculus (they're spread throughout the chapter). Thanks for any help!

I've just started my exam session and I still don't quite understand how the final grades are calculated. In math studies, if I'm expecting a 4 from the exams and I have a 3 in my IA then what will my final grade be? How does the 80% to 20% rule work? Thanks in advance.

Hi, I probably should've asked you this before but whatever. In the exams, do you lose marks if you get the answer right (using the GDC) but show no working on the paper? Instead, just writing 'GDC used' next to the answer. I tend to do this for finance questions using the finance app and I'm worried about losing marks Thanks

Hi! I was wondering if anyone would like to fill in my survey, its for my math IA It's going to ask you about your parents income/years of education, I know a lot of people may not know this but please try to estimate. If you have no clue what so ever, then please write your parents proffessions instead where it tells you to. http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/Z72TV95 It would help me a lot so thank you sooo much!

Hey all, I'm in the process of writing my Maths IA up and I am looking at average yearly parent income and price of most used family car. I realise that I am not going to be spot on with the exact price every time due to things such as accessories etc which may increase the value of the car, however that is something I am going to mention. - The conversion rate from (your currency) to $AUD will be taken from a website on a particular day, and will remain at the same rate. Here is the link: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/TKBSR56 Thanks alot!

So if you have two variables and plan to find a correlation, is it worth bringing in a third variable for further investigation? My teacher suggested this but I'm not quite sure how it would work for the rest of the IA For example, if you were to do something like, Player's age and amount of games played and then further bring in amount of goals scored. (Say you were to do soccer) I'm confused as to how this would work... help would be much appreciated!

ok, so i'm worried about sounding completely stupid, but i'm doing my IA for Studies at the moment, and was going through my notes on how to do Pearson's, and realised how confusing they are. For the IA, is there anythng else we have to do besides making the contingency table, writing out the formula to show working and then calculating 'r'? I know you can do something regarding line of best fit, but at the moment i'm not sure whether i need to bother with that. An answer(s) would be really helpful! Thanks!

I'm really lazy right now and i wrote a rough draft of my math studies ia and i have NO motivation to proof read it. I know i'm going to get a fairly good score on the test because im good at math...just lazy (as you can tell) so i took the easy way out. So basically what i want to know is how much of a weighing does it have in your overall score and is it possible to turn in garbage and still get a 7 on the exam

Hi, I commence the IB in a few weeks and I am yet to finalise my subject choice for Maths. It's a toss up between Maths Studies and Maths SL. Firstly, I don't really like maths. I certainly do not enjoy it, and I prefer written humanity/english/language subjects over maths/sciences. That being said, I am not bad at maths either. I can grasp concepts pretty easily, and whilst I would NEVER be able to handle Maths HL, I am fairly confident that I could cope with SL, if only just. Another factor to consider is that I am going to do Economics HL. My school does not require us to do Maths SL for Econs, but what are your opinions on that...? Lastly, I am applying to an A…

Hey! I have a maths exemplar in which the fellow wrote a rejection equation, null hypotheses, alternate hypotheses and even working at a 95% confidence for PEARSON's correlation coefficient. Hey guys, my maths teacher decided to be a jerk and bombard us with really tough sums on 2 variable statistics. I have 3 Pearson problems that I can't solve, for the time being I'll just post one, we'll see how it goes from there! The formula is below: I know this isn't either of the 2 from the text book, and I wondering why, but this is the only understandable formula available online, work with me here Data: n=51 Sigma XY=2.6402 x 109 Sigma Y=2.1402 x 107 Sigma X=5719.8 Sigma X2= 1.2627 x 106 Sigma Y2= 1.0184 x 1013 Find 'r' Note the sigma value is from my GDC and out of the 3 sigma values this had the same 'E' like symbol (uppercase I believe). I really …

So my math studies IA is due on 2/28. For my class the grade I get on my IA from my teacher is going to count as a test grade. He says that to get anything higher then about a 12 / 20 we must have sophisticated mathematics. Things as advanced or more advanced then quadratics. So survays are out =/ Do you guys have any type of idea of what I could do? That would be simple and not time consuming but would still include "sophisticated mathematics"?

My IA is due 2moro and i need help. So my experiment was: how long it takes for different cups of hot coffee to cool down to room temperature? So basically i used a glass, foam, and plastic cup. I measured the temperature every two minutes till it reached room temperature. So i get the set of results, and i graphed each cup, Temperature vs. Time. I know u can just compare them with looking at the graphs and saying which cup is the least effective and so on. But i need suggestions for any calculations i can do. Please this is rly important. P.S: For my first draft, i modeled the graphs after an exponential model y=a×b^x. But I think my teacher didn't rly agree or like thi…

Chi Square help needed

Hi guys, my topic is 'Investigating the relationship between Government spending on Welfare and the number of crimes in the US for a period of 16 years" When calculating the chi square relation between Gvt. Spending and Number of crimes, do I account for the spending in billion by writing 154.6 billion or do I actually write 154.6 * 10^9? So today I think I came across a solution by performing it in the way my text book solves sums. they basically make like Punnet Square sort of table for the two variable happening and not hapening. So it would look like this for my project: What do you think of the table and do you think it can be used for a Chi square test to dete…
