Can you do a maths project on a country besides your own?

What's up?! So my title is investigating the relationship between govt. spending and annual crime rates. I can find the data for the USA, but as you know India is a country that is yet easing into IT so to find data is a wild goose chase. Do you think there is any problem with doing it on another country? IMO there shouldn't but just checking.

Right now my topic is: "A statistical analysis of International Baccalaureate Diploma students and Higher School Certificate students at (My school) wanting to study overseas or within Australia for tertiary education." I was planning on using pearson's correlation coefficient, line of linear regression, coefficient of determination and chi squared test for independence, however I don't know how to proceed/plot my data for anything other than the chi squared test as I only really have 4 figures. Should I be using some other statistical processes? If so, which ones?

So I am doing a basic project on how valid BMI is and I am therefore looking at correlation between height and weight and also seeing if there is any major difference between females and males. So I have all my data but now, when I come to the Chi Square part (which my teacher told me to do) I am completly lost. All the examples in the book of how to create the table of observed data and calculating the expected values are of data that is discrete, while mine is continuous. I understand that I have to reorganize everything into discrete data and so I did that by instead of having all my results lined up like height and weight, I have to calculate how many are below, for …

Hello, I'm in need of a little help. I'm attempting to do my math studies IA, but I don't know exactly where to start or what methods Okay.. so my title is "Does the numbers of hours studying affect one's grades?" hours is my independent variable (x) and my grades is my dependent variable . If I were to graph this I wouldn't know how. Grades can't be 1,2,3,4,5 on a vertical y axis. Should it be in percentages? and idk what should I use when it comes to solving. I would greatly appreciate it if I got some suggestions or help on where to begin.

Hi guys, so after having a look at some past IA's that students have done, I have narrowed the area in which I would like to the topic on something geography related. For example, one IA I came across looked at examining many countries' life expectancy and GDP per capita and see which one is indpendant. I was thinking possibly looking at education levels and fertility rate? Could someone tell me if this is a possible IA topic, Thanks. Another one - correlation between race and IQ, is that possible?

Hi, I'm a junior in an IB Math SL class and we are in the midst of our IA Project. I'm on the Mathematical Processes part and I thought I had everything under control but then I realized I can't use one of the processes I had hoped to. My topic is: Is there a relationship between gender and the type of pizza a person eats? I know it seems silly but my dad owns a pizzeria so it was something I would be able to do. I did the Chi-square hypothesis test and that worked out fine and I planned on doing linear regression with a line of best fit but I realized that since gender isn't a numerical value it wouldn't really work. Please help me with either thinking of a new proces…

Recently, my teacher gave back our IA outline sheets that had basically everything our project was going to be on. I got mine back with a big, fat, REDO on the top of it. Naturally, I went to go talk to my teacher, who said my hypothesis wasn't "appropriate" enough. My topic is seeing if there is a correlation between colour preference & gender. My hypothesis was quite simple: "Males will prefer the darker colours as opposed to females." My teacher, however, wasn't thrilled. She said, "Well, there are people in Paris who wear black just because everyone wears black. & what about the people who are gothic? They wear black because they want to & it's part of the…

I'm in desperate need of trying to get my topic worthy of at least a 17/20 (unless it's sent to Laos...insider with my Math class...). However, I seem to be stuck: I can't think of more than 2 sophisticated statistical methods to analyze my data! All I have is a Chi-squared and a T-test, which are essentially the same things! I need to expand more, but I'm not sure how. My topic is colour preference in relation to gender. I've 134 samples of data, and am totally lost. Any other processes I can use? I'd love to use a linear regression equation, however you can't exactly graph 2 categorical sets of data....

Hey guys. So i just recently dropped down to Maths Studies and the teacher never explained how to do the IA and just gave us some papers which do not help at all! I've been going around the forum but i can't seem to see anything that would help with finding a good research question. So here i am fishing for some questions to do and these were the ones i came up with. WARNING: they are really crappy so i'm all for the criticism. How does listening to k-pop (or other different languages) affect our knowledge of other cultures? How many hours in a day do you listen to music and how does this affect studying habits? Does playing a lot of sports affect grades? I …

Hello, So I really need help. I keep changing my IA topic. First it was how to curve a soccer ball, but I mostly find physics of that on the computer, (couldn't find anything related to a math studies topic). Then I changed it to sport and nationality but when I typed up a survey for that, I realized many people are mixed and many people play more than one sport. So now I thinking on music. Does anyone have any ideas on what in music I could do my Math Studies IA on. My mom gave me the idea of heart beats and music but does anyone have an other ideas on music and math? Or just any other IA topics in general??? and I really like music and sports. So something around that, …

I have almost completed my Math Studies IA, and while doing so I asked my teacher about doing histograms and other ways to interpret my data. Instead of helping, she decides to yell at me about things completely irrelevant to my math IA, so I thought I’d come here for some help. I have three variables. Income for two years, marriage rates for two years, and divorce rates for two years. My goal is to investigate the correlation between income and the amount of marriages/divorces per state. I know I will be doing a chi-squared test, I thought I’d have to do a histogram but she never gave me a clear answer because she was yelling…

Hi, Just wondering what makes a project "too simple". My maths teacher is new to teaching the IB and approved my project, however I asked one of the more experienced staff who has taught studies for a while now, she immediately said my project was too simple... I'm not really sure what to do... My topic was something along the lines of "The regular amount of weekly exercise during one's final school year and ATAR" ATAR is the mark that we get in Australia for University admission after subject scaling... Is this too simple?

Hi I've decided to do this investigation quite long time ago and finally i have gathered all the data i needed. So, i took the top 100 movies from the TOP 250 Movies of all time from IMDB. I took their ratings and their budgets. I adjusted all 100 budgets to 2011 inflation for obvious reasons. So i've put all the data i have gathered into excel and yes, i did get positive correlation although it may not be very strong. I'm still happy there is some though because the data was pain to obtain sometimes (Opening 100 tabs and scrolling down to budget and alt-tabbing to write it down etc.) I'm attaching the picture of the graph so, my question is, what could i possibly do…

Hi there, I'm in dire need for some IA help. I am doing a chi-squared test to determine if there is any correlation between the length of power metal songs and the decade they were written and produced in. Here is my data: http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=26284eu&s=5 I got feedback on my first draft, where my teacher concluded that I had too few values for a proper test. What I did was to organize the songs into three groups depending on the length of the songs; short, medium and long. But alas, too few values. I know how to carry out a chi-square test but I need help on how to organize the data so that I can actually do the test. Help.

Okay, first of all i've read alot of forums concerning about math studies "worth" and there are so many like clashing opinions that i don't know which to believe. so, people have been saying that taking maths studies would hinder your chances at uni, but some say that it doesn't matter if you took maths SL or HL or what but what really matters is your over all garde in the ib. i saw this one person saying that there was this girl that took art and maths studies and business and got a 42 in her ib grade but is still accepted in a college with a scholarship. so really, coz i don't know where to go. some say, take SL atleast (im in studies now) i got a B in my gcses higher.…
