As ridiculous as this sounds, I have fraction related IB work that I just... cannot do. I have always been bad at math and would love someone to help my with my fraction related math homework... Combine 2/a2 - 3/ab + 4/b2 1/x+5 + 2/3 1/x+5 + 2/x 1/x+5 + 2/x-3 Solve for x 4/x = x-6/x-4 4/x = 3x/x-3 x = x/3+5 3/x = x/3+5 3/x+2 = x/3 + 5/x+2 x+3/x-3 + x-3/x+3 = 18-6x/x2-9 PLEASE HELP ME. I really wish I was made for Maths.

So yeah, for Maths studies im conducting a survey about whether violent video games affected the player, but in all honesty this is a remake of my first IA, and I cant find my hardcopy or my flashdrive since coming back home from england. I wish I had a backup of it now, so for year 13 (just started) im trying to make a fresh new start. Can anyone tell me roughly the exoskeleton of a maths studies IA? something like Cover Page Introduction ??? ??? ??? ??? Profit! or something This would definitely help me a lot. Please and thank you.

Hello. I've got do do a math modeling task for Math, due next week. The teacher gave me a certain data set, for which I decided to develop a power trendline (y=ax^b). In order to facilitate the parameter discovery process, I decided to make a log-log transformation on the x and y datasets; that is, I replaced all of the numbers in the table with their respective logarithms. To put it in a practical example (remember, these are not the real values) x y ---> log x log y 100 10 2 1 10 1 1 0 In this way, we can make a linear trendline, (log y)=m(log x)+b, where, after finding the sl…

This IA asks to develop a probability density function (pdf) for the chart described below. I'm stuck at the question which says "Add two other columns to the chart, entering the excpected frequencies for the 1000 saplings for both normal and Poisson distribution. Test each as a possiblemodel for the data" The chart is:[Height of saps in m],[Frequency] 0.00-0.25 , 61 0.25-0.50 , 160 0.50-0.75 , 209 0.75-1.00 . 202 1.00-1.25 , 158 1.25-1.50 , 105 1.50-1.75 , 58 1.75-2.00 , 29 2.00-2.25 , 12 2.25-2.50 , 4 2.50-2.75 , 1 2.75-3.00 , 1 I have a problem with the Poisson distribution, what am I exactly supposed to do? Just wondering, does anyone else in studies have to do an insanely long (like a zillion questions) summer packet? I know that those of you in the Southern Hemisphere are in winter, but up here in the U.S of A we're getting ready for our summer break (finally)! Does anyone else have to deal with this or is it just my school? My teacher is a bit obsessive about piling work on us (I'm serious about it being long: about 100 questions with 2-6 problems each) Thanks

Does anyone have any free Math HL portfolio samples that have been corrected? I just handed in mine and we're going to do another one soon. I just wanted to see how it is corrected and what I should improve for the next one. It doesn't matter if it's type I or II, anything will do really ... Thanks in advance...

Does the grade boundaries in mathematics HL include the IA? For example if the grade boundary for a 4 is 48% is that what you need to get in paper 1,2 and 3 or does it also include the maths HL IA?

Hi Everyone, I'm doing some past papers in Maths SL and was wondering how many points I should get in them in order to "pass" (get 4, that is)? I'm quite nervous and I just want to pass. I'm not aiming at 7. Hope you guys can help even though it's hard to tell (with the boundaries and all). I just need an indication that I'm doing alright!

Hey there, I need to solve the inequality (n+1)!-1 > 10^9 But how can I solve it with my GDC? I moved the 1 to the other side and tried to plot them as y1 and y2 in order to find the intersection. somehow my TI-84 plus doesn't show the graph, tho Is it a problem with the window or can the function thingy not deal with "faculty"? Is there another way to do it? I'd be grateful for any help

Hi, I know it's a little too late to ask these questions, but I really need to know their answers before the exam, which is like in three or two days!! Kinda freaking out here! ok, so: My first question is: Are the following the only functions that we're supposed to know that have asyptotes? 1/x 1/(X^2) e^x log ln (a^x)+b My second one is: How to find asyptotes algebricaly? My third and last one is: How to find asyptotes by using TI-84 Plus? Thanks

Hey, I need some "urgent" help - math hl exam ummm ON WEDNESDAY ahh.. well okay, I found this problem (look at the attachment, please) and I interpret it as "y= abs(ln(x))- abs(cos(x))-0.1" and that is also how I entered it into my GDC (TI-84 plus). However, I arrive at a totally different solution than the mark scheme [i'll attach the official answer as well]. Now does "∣...∣" not mean absolute value in this case? or do I have to enter it differently? or is the official solution wrong? quick help appreciated... thanks!

Do we need to be able to use the gradient function in order to find the derivative, or can we just use the rules? The formula I'm talking about is: (x+h)-f(x) h Our teacher told us we didn't need the formula, then told us we did need it... test tomorrow at 1:30 EST.

Hi guys, I am taking Math Studies and apparently for my Math IA I need to complete a survey and do all those statistics stuff on it. So please help me to finish this survey. I have to finish writing my IA by the end of next week or I am dead. They will not take long to complete. If it is ok, after you complete the tests, can you printscreen both of them to me? Not that I dont believe you but my teacher wants to make sure we actually carry out the survey rather than just making things up. Thanx a tril time. If you can't printscreen, pls give me the following info: _ For the IQ test:give me the IQ score display. Link: My link _ For the reaction test: give me ALL 5 result…

Hello out there! Exams are coming up and my math mocks were terrible. I really need to do some serious revision, and I find that it is hard to do with my 'Haese & Harris Math SL'. I think it's because it lacks text and in-dept descriptions. I already have the IB questionbank, so I'm loaded with exercises, I just need to read things through. Do you have any recommendations? I am considering Oxford University Press' Study Guide, but it looks like it's from the old syllable and this sure ain't attractive: http://www.ibbookshop.co.uk/catalog/product_reviews_info.php?products_id=260&reviews_id=2 What do you use?

This is my school's second year of IB; first year of practically doing IB diploma. What's the minimum word count for the Math Studies SL IA? and data and charts and graphs don't count, correct? do table and graph titles count? We know the max is 2,000. stupid question, i know, but we aren't getting straight answers from the teacher. Thanks.

In biology or earth and environmental and other subjects like that you can get a copy of the questionbank off the ib website but they don't seem to have a maths sl one. Just wondering if anybody knew if one exists and if we have access to it? If anyone has a link or a file that would be very much appreciated, I'm not too crash hot at maths so I need as much revision material as possible! Also, is looking at the questionbanks considered cheating? I figured it probably wasn't because they sell them on the ib website...but if it is illeagal, immoral and against all the rules then please let me know. Thanks!

Hi They ask me to calculate the mean and standard deviation using the gdc of t: Time | nr of people 0 <(equal) t < 15 | 21 15 <(equal) t < 30 | 32 ... and so on <(equal) just means greater or equal to I tried to calculate the mean by taking the midpoint, but the result is incorrect. So I guess it is maybe because it is "greater or equal to" and not just simple "0-15"... Can anyone help me out please? Thanks. (Edit: coz I misunderstood the question)

I've applied to study business management in the UK and the only thing standing between me and a great university right now is my SL math grade. I've got mostly 4s and a few 5s from my previous exams, and now the university asks for a 6. I've heard that a 6 should be manageable even if you're not a very mathematical person, so I'd love to hear some tips on how to do it. I have 2 months before the final exams and I need to pull this off. It kills me that I have a predicted 40 and they only ask for 36 points AND that bloody 6 in math. My problems right now: - I become extremely frustrated everytime I do an exercise and it's wrong (which happens a lot) - I don't really find …

Okay, I just have to ask. Do prestigious US universities loathe math studies? I mean, do I have any realistic chance of getting in if I have really good grades, extra curricular activities etc. but I also have math studies? :/ I've thought about studying international relations and "humanistic" stuff. My ultimate dream universities would probably be NYU or Columbia... Also what do you guys think the UK universities think about math studies. What do you guys think?

K, I am working on my Internal Assessment which is due in 4 days (I know... it's not my fault though..) and I am doing the relation between Immigration and the economy. Currently I am working on the economy aspect and I need to know the factors that affect the economy in general, with of course some stats that I can use in the IA. If anyone knows a general place where I could gather my own information that would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, I've got a quick question: my math project is a test to see if there is a correlation between lung cancer and smoking. I have the number of smokers in Ontario from 1999 - 2004, ditto lung cancer victims. That only leaves me with 12 pieces of data, (i.e. numbers). Is that enough? Do I need MORE raw data? If not, how can I compensate for it in the analysis?

OK, I'm doing my IB Math Studies Internal Assessment now. What I'm doing is evaluating my survey results. I conducted a survey of 50 boys and 50 girls (100 total) of which subjects they preferred the most. I gave them a list of 7 subjects each with the choices "I Like/Do not Like this subject" I have the raw data, but I have a vague idea of what I want to do with it. I wanted to use the standard deviation, chi-square into this data but im not sure how... Any ideas on what I can do with these results? Any more processes? Also, whats the word count for the Math IA?

I am doing my Maths portfolio on investigating divisibility atm. I am really stuck on question 3 and 4. These are the portfolio questions 1. Factorize the expression P(n)=n^x-n for x = 2,3,4,5. Determine if the expression is always divisible by the corresponding x. If divisible use mathematical induction to prove your result by showing whether P(k+1)-P(k) is always divisible by x. Using appropriate technology, explore more cases and make a conjecture for when n^x - n is divisible by x. 2. Explain how to obtain the entries in Pascal's triangle...State the relationship between the expression P(k+1)-P(k) and Pascal's traingle. Reconsider your conjecture. Write an express…

Hey guys ! Im currently a junior in a school with ib courses. Well I never really was the type of person who loves maths... And in my future I want to pursuit a job as a lawyer. So I intend to major in Poli Science when I am getting into a college. But now the question is whether they are going to accept me (IVY league) when Im taking Math Studies. What do you think ? Oh my HL levels are Economics,English and Spanish Because then I have a higher chance to get a 6 or a 7 in maths studies so that my ib score increases Oh and do u know how hard Math Studies is in order to get a 7 ? Thanks in advance !! N.

I just finished prep-IB, and since Maths is my weakest subject I want to look over the curriculum during the Christmas holidays so I'm better prepared for next year. Is this list of topics: http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/IB_Mathematics_%28SL%29 up to date? I borrowed the textbook that my school provides for Maths SL next year and there are 29 chapters - honestly, there couldn't be that many topics, could there? I guess they just split the topics into many different chapters.

Hi I've started my project, which is based on stats and has to include three variables in the data. I went onto the World Health Organisation's website and found 50 appropriate records, the variables being gender, continent and life expectancy. My hypotheses is that females have a greater life expectancy across all continents than males. I've done box plots and found that it's pretty conclusive that my hypotheses is correct. There's no real argument in it and I don't know what other analysis I can do to make it look like there's any contest.. Do I have to start over with different data, or choose a hypotheses that's less one-way? I hate statistics.

Hello, I was wondering if you could help me. ^^ That's my IA topic right now. My teacher told us to do a rough draft over summer vacation without teaching us the format or any statistical tests. I bsed something and turned it in but I'm worried about how it's actually going to end up. Should I be trying to do both the progression and the frequency? Also, what statistical tests would be useful? I really don't know any at all, I just threw in a couple of regular grap…
