Hi guys, i was wondering if there are any websites, youtube users or other online resources that i can revise for math studies with? We have the textbook computer version at school which would be great, but unfortunately it doesn't work on Mac and therefore i can't use it at home on my laptop. Does anyone know where I can get a Mac copy, or any youtube users or websites that may help? I don't need something too in-depth in teaching, but more of an overview of the breadth of the course if possible. But anything anyone knows would be helpful, thanks a lot guys I have been looking online, but finding resources for IB in general is difficult. Tony Petrovik

Hey! I'm doing a questionnaire for my IA and it's all basically explained in the survey. My topic focuses on an individual's ability to learn a language and whether it is correlated with factors such as gender, ethnicity and nationality. Please help me by taking the survey and passing it on if you can, it only takes about a minute. There are two links with the same survey, just choose one. One link may be blocked if you live in certain countries such as China. Thank you so much for your time and cooperation, the more data I collect and the more diverse the data the more dependable the results will be. http://dev.eSurv.org?u=MathStudsIA https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/RV…

For my Math IA, I'm investigating the correlation between homework and sleep in IB and non-IB students. So far, I've calculated the mean, median, mode and range of my data and also made a line graph showing the correlation between these two topics in the two educational programs, however I can't come up with anything else that I could include. Do you have any ideas? Or is this enough? Thank you for your help and suggestions.

it is quite obvious that showing up to a uni doing maths studies instead of maths SL/HL isnt very good, but since im not too fond of maths (at all hahahaha) i would prefer to take maths studies as i know for sure that HL/SL will be too challenging for me. i will either start at SL and drop to maths studies or do maths studies directly. the only thing is that im thinking of taking the buisness/economics route for uni, mixed with some languages and psychology which could take me to advertising or something later in life.. im not quite sure of what i'll do so these are just ideas. i wanted to know if maths studies is a subject you guys would recommend to take if i am not too…

Hello everyone! I am working on my IA for Math Studies. I get how everything needs to be presented on paper and the details I have to include, but I'm having trouble deciding a method for collecting the data and which advanced mathematical process I will conduct related to this. My topic is the following: How does the tempo of a song affect the human heart rate? So, at first sight it seemed like something pretty simple... But then I started to think about the topic more and more and now I'm stuck with the aforementioned problem. Since the normal number of heart beats of a person at rest and the way it will react to the tempo are different, I will need to study the cha…

Hi guys! Just, I'm really stuck with starting an IA (and it's due this week, good job me) because I have no clue as to what can actually be considered an IA. Not only that, but I don't know how to use Microsoft Excel because we weren't really taught how. I was considering doing my IA on these two topics, so if you all could help me, it would be really awesome, because I really need it. Btw, I'm not 100% sure if these can even be usable for an IA, so if they can't, could you suggest a particular topic I could use that's not too difficult? It was a toss up between descriptive statistics and correlation between gender and anger management. Descriptive statistics, I don't …

Hi! Here's an overview of my math studies IA, My question is "Do the heights of high school students follow a normal distribution?" I gathered the heights of about 90 students, grouped them together in a frequency table then I will draw a histogram, calculate the percentages of the standard deviations and compare them to those of a normal distribution. Finally, I will also use a chi-squared test to see if my data satisfies a normal distribution. Would that be enough? Are there any OTHER mathematical statistical tools I could use in my IA? Or any way I can incorporate a graph into this? Help much appreciated, Thanks a lot!

since i suck at maths and will probably come out of gcse's with a B grade, im thinking of taking maths studies instead of maths SL because apparently you need at least an A in gcse to do well in it. do economics/buisness universities accept students who do maths studies and not HL or SL? thanks(:

Hey, so for my IA I was planning on doing something called Benford's law- so I would take a newspaper and write down all of the numbers which occur (which is to do with the law). But can I do it? My teacher was very excited about it, but here Iv'e read that you have to have two variables and look if there's correlation?

Hi, I took my exams May last year and I'm retaking some subjects this May. As there is a new syllabus in math studies on which the examinations are based, is my project from the last syllabus still valid? I just thought of this and panicked, because I really don't have time to do another project, and even if I had time, I'm sure the deadline is way past :-( please answer as soon as possible if you know anything about it! (I have e-mailed the teacher I had as well)

At my school there are two options for 11th and 12th graders. One is the Ib and the other is an ISH diploma which constitutes for a regular high school diploma. I am taking all my courses under the ISH diploma but i am considering of taking IB math studies instead of ISH diploma math studies. Which would benefit me in the long run and is the workload considerably more and would it be worth the trouble?

Hey everyone, So at my school I am doing maths studies SL but accelarate which means we cover the two year course in one year, my exams are November 2014. I was wondering if anybody actually did formal notes for the course or simply just did lots of practice questions. Does anyone have any tips to share on the best way to make sure all topics are covered for the final exams? Regards, Jordan

I'm doing it on whether gender, age, nationality and language affect the type of movies you watch and the frequency you do so https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/BKTX2PH And if possible, could you also get other people to answer the survey? It is only 3 questions, and I will be forever grateful if you complete it ^^ My IA in math is to investigate if the gender of a player is connected to the genre of the video game. (if you wanted to know) So please click the link under if you have a bit time to spare for another fellow IB student. http://kwiksurveys.com/s.asp?sid=e7nnuy6vzcvi1hv315031 Thank you so much!

I've chosen the topis of motivaiton in sports. I collected 20 data points (10F 10M) --> time needed to swim 50m freestyle in 3 conditions. Can I do any calculations for the 20 datapoints as all are measured in the same unit? How can I do scatterplot for that? Actually, I'm confused with IA math studies. I've heard that I need 60 datapoints and 3 variables, and I've also heard that data HAS TO be correlated at r2 = 0.8 or at least 0.6 , so that's why I have a difficulty to find ANY data that'd fit those reestrictions (moreover, I can't skip this criterion, as IA's are assessed by our theacher ;< ) any help would be appreciated. (PLEASE)

Hello, IB. I am working on my Math IA and came across a problem: p-value. I want to know if it is okay to compute this number through the calculator, or is if there is a manual way to do this...what is it? Same for X calc values... I understand that the Critical values are retrieved through the table with the sig levels... I'm just a bit confused on the p-values... And say, the xcalc > xcrit but the pvalue is not < sig level.... is that even possible? Contradiction? Obviously I am doing something wrong...I did a lot of chi squares in class and for homeworks, but it just doesn't seem to work with my IA! BTW, its an IA comparing about 120 data points (I'm doing three…

Hi guys, i was wondering if anyone knew if for math studies, we have to be able to solve for exponents using log or ln I want to know this because the IB textbook needed it for a question but didn't say how to do it, my teacher says it's not needed (but he gets many things wrong) and if we do then i will try to help classmates out at break times. Does anyone have any good websites for learning about logs? and also natural logs, this is needed for my physics but also for maths if it's in the syllabus.

Hello! I'm doing my IA on correlation between goals scored and footballer's BMI on the sample of 50 footballers. I know that Chi-squared test must have expected value bigger than 5 and I have divided goals scored in 3 groups and BMI also in 3 groups to perform the test, however I get expected value of 4.8 in one case. Therefore my question is: should I narrow the groups to 2x2 or should I leave it this way and state it as limitation/give a comment on test's valadility? There are these example IA's on the CD added to Oxford's book for Studies where once they said the whole calculations are bad due to performing Chi-squared with smaller values than 5 but once when someone …

Hi everyone! My topic is going to be health related, probably the correlation between alcohol consumption and mortality, age and alcohol consumption, bmi and weight/age or something along those lines. I'm struggling to find raw data and to identify whether it's usable or not. I can't really do primary research into these so I need a good source of secondary data. Does anyone know any good websites? Also, do I have to limit my data to one specific country for it to be valid? Or if it comes from multiple countries/sources, do I have to present it separately (per country or source) or can I combine it? Thanks guys!

Hey guys, I'm doing my math IA on the amount of sleep you get every night on average and its affect on your grade. I collected my data by classifying the hours of sleep as 1-3, 3-5, 5-7, 7-9, and 9+. I got the grades by asking students for their unweighted gpa with the options of 2.0, 2.5, 3.0, 3.6, and 4.0. I also got the genders of the students. The only problem is I have no idea what math to do now, so can anyone help me out? Thanks!

Hi guys! I picked my IA topic as Sudoku, but the problem is that i dont know what to calculate from it. Everything that i think of has already been calculated. So, i was wondering of anyone had any ideas or if i am allowed to write my IA was already somewhat established information. The number of possible completed Sudoku grids was one of my ideas, but that has already been calculated, and it took a ton of mathematicians and computers to calculate the complex number... Thanks a bunch! Megan
