Alright so my maths project / IA question is: Does a person’s height and weight correlate with how fast they can swim 100m? Clearly, I am measuring the height/ cm, weight /kg and recording ones time taken to swim 100 meters in the front crawl swimming stroke. - I am sampling 20 people (is this enough people?) - Please help me find a sophisticated process? Also, because this is somewhat near the deadline: Any tips regarding structure, what to include or not include what to criticize-- Anything!-- would be much appreciated Thank you

Is there a correlation between the amount of sleep and facebook hours a student at George Mason High school? I have a lot of data for it...but I don't know, I feel like it's a little too simple? Should I somehow include gender? Thanks!

How long should my math studies IA be?

Hello everyone! Just a quick question. In terms of length, how long (approximately, I know it's different but still, I want a general idea) should my IA be? It's quality over quantity right? haha. I have 8 pages so far and my teacher says it's good (but it's her first time teaching math studies and revising IA's so I'm not sure....). What do you think? Thanks!

Hi, I'm having a problem with my IA. For my maths studies IA, I was going to do it on population growth in South Korea. The plan was, obtain population data from 1950 up to 2050 and make a correlation graph, investigate various models(and functions) and also the logisitic model(a model related to population growth, also known as the sigmoid curve.)I will also use calculus and differentiation to find out the instantaneous rate of change for population and compare it to the data for the rate of change of population that I will research. My teacher said that this was a bit simple and told me to add more factors but I'm not sure what and how to do that. Could anyone give me …

My IA is due in two days and I have an idea, I just don't know how to implement it. I don't want to do statistics because 80% of the people in my class are doing statistics-related projects. So what I want to do is find the wave frequencies of the major chords on the piano. This is important to me because I play the piano and I also teach the piano so it is something that I'm interested in. However, i don't take physics so i'm not sure how to do this. The steps I want to take are: -Record and draw the sine waves for each of the notes on the scale( and find their equations simple harmonic motion) and record the frequencies (in hertz) for each. -find the wavelength and per…

So for my math ia, I want to test whether gender and taste preference have a relationship, and what that relationship is if there is one. For the data collection, I'm doing a blind taste test with three different types of cookies and then having the participants rank them from favorite to least favorite. I know that for analyzing the data, I'm going to test the chi squared. But other than that, I can't really think of any ways to evaluate it aside from throwing the data into bar graphs for visual aid. Help?

ok so for my math ia I'm finding the relationship between a gymnasts height and his/her ability to score well in gymnastics events? I used data from the 2012 london olympics. I turned in my ia as a draft and My teacher only gave me a 1 out of 2 for the validity/limitation criteria but didn't tell tell me how to fix it. these are a list of my vailidities/limitations. •I got my data from the Official London Olympics website and therefore it is considered valid. •A huge limitation of my IA is that it was done on such a small scale: I only used data on gymnasts who competed at the recent 2012 Summer Olympics in London and therefore my conclusions and my data does not repre…

Hello prisoners! I am doing my Math Studies IA currently, I have to hand in the first draft in 4 days and I haven't even done a survey yet Anyways, I took too long to come up with something and ended up with a really lame topic: Do the grades of students have a correlation with their musical taste? So basically all I need is: Your name (you can make one up if you must) Your taste in music (please do not give artists, just genre and try to stick to one genre - I can only use one) Your predicted IB grade (EXCLUDING EE and TOK - If you have it ) Thank you so much lovelies

Okay, this might sound like a really basic question, but how do you study for the math papers? My school hasn't told us anything about the tests except that they're in May, and I'd like to start preparing soon. Do you use practice exams? If so, where can you find practice exams? Thanks a bunch

I'm in serious trouble; I have no idea what to do for my math project! I was thinking of maybe doing something with population growth, but then I wouldn't know what math to apply to it and how to make it a good project. Has anyone done something with population growth before? I would really really appreciate some help! Thanks so much.

For my IA I'm looking at correlation in horse height (hands or cm) and front leg cannon bone circumference (cm) to see if jumping boot size could be predicted based on height. If you could let me know how tall your horse is and measure around a front leg below the knee that would be great. Thank you!

Hey guys! I have to hand in my math calculations next Friday and I have this question. My teacher told me that I need to survey the whole school..thats impossible. does the IB have a specific number of people being asked? My goal was to ask 100 people (50 male & 50 female). If you know how many people they need that would be great! Thanks.

Hi i'm new to this whole IB thing. My school started IB just last year so my class is the second to be going through it. Basically, my teachers are not all into IB yet, so they just tell us to write the essay and don't tell us how. Is there a template that can be used to write the math studies assessment because i know for the ITGS one we have to write Criterion A, B, C etc. So what are the titles for each section in this essay. I tried to use the Criterions they have is but it doesn't make sense to use it. My friend used Title, Statement of Task, research question, procedure, definition of variables, sample population, and then conclusion, but this does not seem very org…

Hi everyone. For my Math IA I need at least 60 IB students to complete a survey, because it's based off grades and hours that change over time please only complete it if you are on your summer break now about to start your second year of IB. Basically my IA question is: How do the number of CAS hours obtained by a Year 12 IB Diploma student reflect in their IB Predicted Grades from May 2012? I've attached the survey but I'll also add a typed up version. If you could just put your answers in the comments/ message me I'd be extremely grateful. Thanks Predicted Grades for each subject with SL/ HL indication: Group 1: Group 2: Group 3: Group 4: Group 5: Group 6/ Extra Subje…

Just wondering - how different are paper 1 and 2? (Besides the obvious '1 is 15 short questions and 2 is 5 long questions) Hopefully Paper 2 isn't too much more difficult than Paper 1. I'm one point short of my best university requirement and I hoped to pick that up in maths studies (6 to 7) as my uni offer has no chance of making it part of my conditional if I slip up (studies for law? lol) whereas on top of this, my highers are all subjective (therefore reluctant to predict up despite a 7 in my mock) and/or unlikely to improve anyway (a 7 in english seems entirely unlikely for me) My maths teacher told me that if I got a 7 in this mock I would be predicted up, but we go…

I took Maths Studies this year because I am not very good at Maths. Does it lower my chances of getting into a good university in the UK? I do not know what exactly I want to study, perhaps something business related, but not anything with science or Maths. I've been looking at some requirements and not all allow Studies, but ones that do want a good grade in it. Of course, after that they can still not chose you...? Anyone got into Business or something similar with Math Studies?

Hello guys, I was wondering if we need to round up numbers in our Math studies internal assessment… I am doing it in statistics and my teacher told me that i had to, since i have a lot of data… But I think she is too lazy to correct it if it has decimal numbers…(she is not the nicest teacher) Do you think that rounding is taken into account for the points you get from your internal?? Thank you

Hey everyone! For my Math Studies Internal Assessment, I am considering collecting data on the number and type of cars owned by a family vs. the families approximate income. I would be able to conduct a survey among my school's students as well as conducting the survey on IB Survival. My main concerns are that the data will be consistent and that I will not have enough to analyze. Do you have any thoughts on this topic? Maybe some ways to improve it? Thanks in advance.
