A2 Written Task

Hey guys I have to turn in my first written task in a couple of days about war reporting and propaganda. My topic is the use of propaganda during World War 2 in America, but I'm not sure what type of text would be more reasonable: an opinion column (from the present time about World War 2) or an article written in the newspaper during WW2 to convince americans of being involved in the war? Hope you guys can help me I'm kind of lost. Leo

So I'm doing SL French (so far I just started my first semester) and it's the only subject I'm struggling with (I'm expecting a 5-6 in all my other courses). French never interested me and I think I don't adapt to new languages too well. My pronunciation is good enough so my only concern is my understanding of french. I find it difficult to keep up with my teacher when she's talking in french during class but I can usually understand what she's saying by picking out certain words I know. I also have trouble reading french and my vocabulary isn't the best. Does anyone have any advice for me so I can improve my french by December? Thanks in advance to anyone who answers bec…

On my Spanish essay, my teacher marked me down for writing he venido, saying that I should use vine instead. She said that even though the first one is more frequent in Spain, I might get a grader from Latin America that would mark me down for that on my Paper 2. What determines the graders that I get on my exams (from Spain or Mexico)? How likely is the fact that I'll be marked down for saying he venido instead of vine? Will the graders be extremely picky, especially with the accents on solo, guion, este, ese, and aquel, as now Real Academia Española recommends to never use the accents on those words? Overall, how conservative are the graders?

Heyyyy, I was wondering if it was possible to take a self taught B language in IB? I have only heard about people taking A1 and ab initio as self taught :/ My IB school does not offer Japanese at all, and i really want to take exams in japanese I have looked at some old IB japanese ab initio exams and I can all ready understand most of it... and I think that A1 would be too hard I am really good with languages, so I think Japanese B self taught would be perfect for me

Ab Initio How on earth do I learn French?

Hey, So, its now been 1 year of what could loosely be called learning French. In my end of year mock in June, I got a 2 in French (the only subject I didn't pass). I clearly need some help Since I'm taking my exams in May 2012, I have about 8 months to get from what I am now to French pro. So, my first question is this: could I realistically raise my 2 to a 5/6 in the time I have? I think it's just down to a lack of motivation. I'm doing the work in class but that's it. No extra stuff. My teacher's given me the task of learning 5 new words a day (something I have yet to start) but I really don't know how much that's going to help and its honestly boring. I think I co…

French Homework help

My teacher gave us homework today to convert some phrases into 'impersonnelle'. One example she gave us was: Si je ne laisse pas couler l'eau en me brossant les dents, je consomme moins d'eau which changes into Si on ne laisse pas couler l'eau en se brossant les dents, on consomme moins d'eau. However, the lesson ended before she could give us the actual rules to use so I have no idea how to convert the rest of the statements. I've tried searching for them on the internet and found nothing. I'd appreciate any help. Thank you

Hello. I'm having a flick through ideas, and a language degree struck me as one of them. Looking into a few, some have struck me. At Exeter, Arabic and Spanish, in a FCH both can be from scratch. At Bangor, Triple Languages, probably French, German and Spanish. Because I do Ab Initio, but did one year of GCSE French, I was considering doing an Open University course. If I do, will it help my case getting into the Bangor course? For OU courses, I was thinking either Intermediate (http://www3.open.ac.uk/study/undergraduate/course/l120.htm) or upper intermediate (http://www3.open.ac.uk/study/undergraduate/course/l211.htm). Are these suitable? And finally, where on the Common…

I'm a freshman and I am very good at foreign languages. I am planning on going for IB Diploma with French B HL and Spanish. I am very fluent in spanish and I would like to take Spanish A2 SL. However, my school doesn't offer it, so I would like to take is as self-taught. My question is Can I do that? Is it possible? I am pretty sure I could handle it because I am well self-organized. (I know you can do self-taught A1 but I'm not sure about A2) If not, can I take first year of Spanish B (HL) my sophomore year and the second year during my junior year and test it as a SL, and take college Spanish my senior year? I'm starting my IB this year and I'm worried about my English. Right now I have chosen English A2.I know that I will have to read literature, which I love, but I think I will be overcrowded and this course will be too tough for me as English is my second language. Is there any difference for Universities weather I have finished English A2 or English B course? Is it worth to study English A2 when I can get better marks in English B? Perhaps some of you could share your experience from your English B and English A2 lessons? Thank you for all your answers.

Hi, I hear there aren't many Japanese learners here, but could anyone could give me a general idea/examples of what is expected from students taking Japanese B (SL)? Basically, I'm wondering what level I should be at regarding reading+understanding exam texts, producing my own etc I'd also like to know what actually makes up the final assessment - is it 30% oral (conversation with teacher) and 70% examination? Thanks in advance, and sorry for being long-winded...

Hey. I'm just intrigued by the differences between these languages. Can a person know one of these languages and still understand the other two? Plus, to tie up IB to the topic, the IBO offers CHINESE A1 and A2 but does not offer CHINESE B, instead it offers MANDARIN B and ab initio. Do you know why?

Hi! I am currently considering French ab initio and I just have a few questions for those who currently take it/have taken it. Do you find that it is hard to master the grammatical concepts/vocab/and such? Is it fairly difficult to get a 7 in this subject? How do you find the IA's and examination papers? Thanks so much in advance!

in language B, for the interactive oral activity, are we allowed to bring our script if we're doing a role play? it's very long (5.5 pages) so I doubt my friend and I can memorise the whole thing, so can we just bring the script with us during the presentation? it's not like we'll be reading it the whole time, but we just want to bring it in case if we forget what's next or something like that. oh and is there a time limit for the oral activity? thanks in advance!

So my school has a massive schedule conflict and there are only 2 ways for a lot of us to stay in full ib. First is to take french 20(grade 11) regular class and self study the extra ib curriculum. Another is to take math 30(grade 12 math) SL and then go to math 31(calculus) HL. And I'm just wondering is there a big difference between the french 20(grade 11) IB curriculum and french 20-grade 11 regular class?

I want to self learn Japanese. Not as a class because I would not be allowed to do that, but just because I have always wanted to learn it. So any help on how I can self study Japanese would be great!!! So I'm exposed to it a lot, which means that I can…

Heya people! I thought I should share some tips for Individual Oral ! Strategies you can use to describe pictures in French The single picture is mainly a test of vocabulary and of how well you can string a series of sentences together. Have a good look at the picture and think of all the things you can say; don't worry about the thing you don't know. The whole scene Introduce the whole scene before you start talking about the detail!Where is it? What is happening there? Typical scene: Families and friends out enjoying a day in the park A classroom, laboratory, library or school playground scene A shopping centre or market scene A hospital, doctor's surgery …

I am taking English B HL, about to do an Interactive Oral Activity on a play. my teacher is new to IB Language B so he isn't really experienced. he said I can do a powerpoint presentation on my own (individually??!) and after the presentation my classmates and my teacher can ask me questions --> where it becomes "interactive". I would be really happy if I could do it individually, because last year when we did a group presentation, ours wasn't really good due to lack of preparation and I don't like doing group work in the first place; but I'm afraid if I'll be penalised, or even disqualified if I do the presentation individually. can anyone tell me if it's actually fin…

Hello, I've just finished my first year or IB and I'm going into my second year this september (2011). My french homework is to decide a topic for our final oral. As a mock presentation, I did it on the ban of the hijab in France, as I'm currently studying in Dubai and so it was relevant. However I need to do something that I can research into and know really well. Has anyone got any ideas about what I could do my presentation on? It needs to relate to France and I think be as simple as possible, one example I came up with was 'Is it good that the youth in France has a lot of freedom compared to Dubai' but my teacher said this was too vague as I can not research it. My toefl score is 101/120 and I will take SAT II test in October. Do you think it will make a great difference if I move to english b hl? Thank you very much

I was just wondering how difficult it is to get a Level 7 in French B at SL. I've been learning French for a few years now, about 6 years. I haven't done French for a year now (since I did it throughout MYP but not IB Year 1, and I have French in Year 2, so I would have to revise before Year 2 starts). Is it relatively easy to get a 7 if you work hard and follow the teacher's guidance, or do you need to do stuff outside class (i.e. like reading French books in your spare time) to get a 7. How difficult is it? Is there anyway to "ensure" that you will get a 7? Any comments are appreciated. Feel free to compare the difficult of French B SL with other subjects (i.e. like the…
