nikongirl
I've lived in China for most of my life, but I am not Chinese. I'm taking IB Mandarin B HL next year, and I just wanted to know if that's impressive, just normal, or I should be doing better. Reply
Sammie Backman
Are you a fluent speaker? If so, you might want to consider switching to A1 if possible.Doing Mandarine B HL when you have lived in China for a long time is not impressive, but probably quite normal. Will you be doing the IB in China? dessskris
I've lived in China for most of my lifeso we can assume that you can speak Chinese (otherwise it's just shameful!). you could play safe by taking Chinese B HL (easy 7...) or challenge yourself by taking Chinese A Lang&Lit SL; although I think B HL is a good choice if you are fluent in English more than you are in Chinese. nikongirl
Just to clarify, I've lived here since 1st grade, but I have never been to a local Chinese school. I have always taken Chinese as a foreign language. Edited August 28, 2011 by nikongirl Reply
ShootingStars
In that case especially, it is in no way shameful! I'd say its just normal, where you should be. That is the course people generally take having studied a foreign language all their life, then igcses/gcses and then B SL. But it depends a lot on way you you live. Do you have chinese friends you speak with or do you just speak English(or another language - I'm not assuming anything her) with all your friends/family?
