So I have 24/30 for my interactive oral, and I haven't done my individual oral but I think I'm going to suck at it. For my pre-mock exam, I got 88% for P1 and 81% for P2 I know I can do better because I didn't really do any study for french this year... Do you think there is a chance for me to get a 7 in french? My teacher said that a 7 in ab initio can go up to 86% overall and I'm a bit scared.... My weakest point is probably the oral because I get really nervous and I usually need time to think, not just blurt out...... T.T So what do you think?

Hello. I'm a DP1 student from Brazil and my exams will be on November 2012. My school is focused on languages and we must take 3 languages in IB. I am taking Portuguese A1 SL, English A2 HL and German A2 SL. Portuguese and English are not a problem for me and my teachers say that I will get a 6 or a 7 (probably 7s). However, I have a problem with German. My teacher says that I can get a 5 or maybe a 6 if I work hard. I have been learning it for many years, however I still make a lot of mistakes while writing (grammar + vocab) and I also have some problems with speaking. I would like to know if any of you have tips on how to improving German. Please also share your experi…

I am a DP1 student studying IB in China. Currently I am doing English A2 as my group 2. I would like to change A2 to B(Our teacher is frustrating us..so offensive but true). Though the school officials said it is not possible, one of my classmates even switched between Art and economic just few weeks ago. I wonder if there is any restriction regarding switching courses. Thanks!

Hey, I'm having a bit of trouble deciding my 6th subject in the IB. I'm more language-orientated, but my school's offer for languages is pretty pathetic. I'm thinking that a possibility could be a self-taught language, like French or my other mother tounge that my school doesn't offer. HOWEVER my organisation skills are not that good and I'm really afraid that I find myself not studying the self-taught language at all...!! (I'm already worrying about how I'll organise the studying of the other five subjects that I'll study...) Anyway, has anyone got any experience/advice about this?? Would be much appreciated!!

I have an American citizenship. I was born there. My Mother is Singaporean, and my Dad Chinese. I was raised in Singapore, and have recently moved to China. I am a fluent speaker and reader, but my writing is clearly Mandarin B level. I'm just worried if unis will look down on my application because it APPEARS I should be a fluent Chinese speaker, but I take Mandarin B. How much harder is A2 than B? Do you think taking A2 would be an option? I can't even do IGCSE First Language Chinese that well, so I was put in IGCSE Foreign Language. Thanks.

I'm doing an oral examination for French tomorrow and I've decided to talk about racism in France, especially in Sports and such. What questions can I expect from my teacher other than: What do you think about it? What can be done about it? How could you change it? etc. My article was this: http://www.sudouest.fr/2011/05/06/une-polemique-black-blanc-beur-390780-10.php Basicly the context is that even a member of racially diverse French team is been accused of racism. Also, what general questions can I expect?

Hi Our french class hasn't been solely for IB students. As we were severely under-representated, our curriculum hasn't been followed at all. I didn't even know about the importance of being familiar with different genres for paper 2. Does anyone have any key points to offer? As far as I've come to understand, the genres (or different types of texts, rather) are; factual description, factual narration, imaginative narration, informal written interaction, formal written interaction, factual explanation, controversial argument and subjective analysis and critique. Can anyone help me? Greatly appreciated

Not sure if this is the right area to post it, but is anyone going to SPAIN over the summer or thinking of going abroad anywhere Spanish speaking over the summer? I'm going to Marbella this summer and I was wondering if anyone is too or considering it. (Hahah I'd love to meet someone on here there) I'm going with this camp with Don Quijote Enfocamp so I was wondering if anyone's interested or has even BEEN there. (Whether Marbella or a Spanish camp in Spain) I think it's a great idea to go bceause 60% of the people there are Spanish at the camp. And for those who have been to Summer camps in Spain to improve their Spanish, how was it? : ) And anyone who has been to Marbe…

So I'm doing Spanish HL and I did a Spanish SL paper near the beginning of the year. There was lots of MATCHING UP and tick boxes I recall. I just found a Spanish HL 2005 paper and there seems to be less tick-boxes and choices (Where you put A B C D E In boxes) you have to make... has it been like that for recent papers too? I really hate those tick boxes and I prefer the HL paper but I'm not sure if the recent HL papers have been LESS about LUCK, and where you actually find words yourself, etc. Thanks!! Please reply if you've done either and know the style of the papers.

I have a French mock in a few weeks and we're preparing them now. I decided to do Prostitution in France. Would this be a good subject to talk about? I'm not even sure what the presentation has to be like, whether it's just us telling the teacher about it or challenging a certain question to do with the chosen subject.

Does anyone know whether you are actually supposed to directly reference to things studied in class if you write an essay on a non-literary topic? Our teacher tells us to mention things studies in class (like the Human Development Index and such) but he hasn't been to clear about how and to what extent. Does anyone know if this is acutally a requirement? Thanks

Hey, We are starting on our first written task in A2 SL English. I chose to do my first task in form of a speech with the intent of informing students at my school about the dangers of social networking sites (e.g. facebook). The speech will be from the perspective of an university student (as students will have more respect than if a teenager holds the speech and still be more likely to relate to the persons message if he is not an adult). Now to my question: What are some formal aspects that I should watch out for when writing a speech? Is there anything you have noticed, read or heard to this regard? Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Greetings

I'm really struggling with my paper one, and it seems that I'll be ending up with horrible results if I don't figure this out. However, I did notice that samples can be extremely helpful. So I'm wondering if anyone can offer to show me some of their good comparative commentaries. No stealing, of course. I just really need to pick it up seeing as year 11 is coming to an end. Thanks

I'm choosing my second language class for when I start IB, and right now I'm almost done with my second year of German. However, I kind of want to switch to Spanish, since I've already learned to basics of German and I live in America so some knowledge of Spanish would be useful. But, I wanted to know; is an ab initio class harder than an SL class of a language you've already started? I have the option of taking Spanish 1 at summer school since I will have to take Econ anyway before starting IB because it's required to graduate. If I did do Spanish initio, would it be a good idea to do this? Or would it be unessicary? Or should I just stick with German?

Hello, this is my first post on IB Survival. My IB French AB Oral is coming up, but I am not really sure how it goes. Is it 10 minutes of talking? 5 minutes of talking? Is it 5 minutes of me talking and 5 minutes of conversation with my teacher? Also, are there any past IB French AB exams from previous years? Anywhere to find them? Thanks!

Hi! ^^ I was wondering if any of you know the components + criteria for the french B SL exam papers. My teacher has only prepared us for oral exams. I believe I am going to get a 4 for the written exams if I don't start studying it myself now =( Also if I have to write an essay ..and let's say I don't know a few words from the essay question (/ I misinterpreted the question), would I still be able to gain some marks from what I have written? Thank you in advance!! ^^

Our teacher recently told us that we are going to hand in our written tasks within next week, but she didn't give us any proper information about what it is o__o Can anyone please explain what it is? So far I've understood that it is supposed to be two types, one cultural and one literature, but I don't know what that's supposed to mean

My French oral presentation/interview is in a week, and I'm just wondering about the format of it. I've been informed that it is about 3 minutes long, followed by a string of questions. However, for the presentation part, is it simply the student's opinion on the topic (our topic is more about current events), or does it have to have formal components, such as the introduction, body conclusion? Thanks

Hi you guys! I was wondering if they allow you to write on the two literary works studied for oral commentary in you paper2 as well? (sounds a bit to good to be true, but couldn't find an answer in the silly...) And also, do you think its a good idea to pick out like three works that you really focus on instead of studying all for the final exams? Appreciate your help!

Hi survivors, as I am presenting my IB Orals next week, I have to give in my structure of the presentation I will perform. My school is unable to explain the details sufficient and therefore I am not really sure whether the topics (in my case in Englisch HL and French SL) have to be controversial?! Is this necessary or do you just have to give a summary of the topic you want to discuss? Is this topic acceptable for an IB Oral? Anyways, I tinkt a category for IB Orals is missing in the forum. Greets and thanks in advance

Hi, I just had my French oral, and my teacher asked me what I thought of the increase of tuition fees, and I replied "c'est dégueulasse !" and he seemed really shocked? I thought it just meant disgusting...I can't really find much about it on the web, (not even wordreference!) so I would really appreciate it if anyone could tell me (and hopefully put my mind at ease.) Thanks !
