I am currently in pre-IB and already chose my subjects, one of which is History HL. I do not have an interest in studying in a field related to history at uni but chose because I find history very interesting (although I have an equal interest at B&M too). From the people I know and what I heard is that History HL is very tough and challenging and is the hardest to get a 7 on. Although the level and depth of analysis skills required in History is debatable, is history really as hard as it may sound, lets say harder than Business and Management? Thanks!

Hey guys. For my Historical Investigation I somehow want to connect music and war. I know music therapy was created during the end of WWII, and I was wondering if a good topic would be how music therapy has affected war veterans, or how music has affected [insert specific war here]. Comments, questions, concerns? I know I have all 3 =)

Is this topic too broad?? thanks!!

I'm currently writing my History IA and I'm wondering, do my internal citations count toward my word count? I know this may be a dumb question but I’ve been working on my IA all weekend and my teacher refuses to respond to any of my emails I sent her so i am a bit unsure about the answer to this question.

Hello everyone! I'd just like to quickly post a format that helps me when I'm writing my historical investigation. I've always thought of Section D being the juiciest part of the paper, so it should be set up for one's benefit. My History Teacher taught me the KEATEAL format. For every point made, there has to be some sort of evidence and analysis to back it up. With that said, this is how your section D ( if you chose to follow this format) would look like: THESIS Keypoint 1 Evidence Analysis Transition Evidence Analysis Link K 2 E A T E A L K 3 E A T E A L Conclusion It may seem strange to have a conclusion within an analysis, but it helps w…

Hey, my teacher has given me a deadline for next week to give in at least part A of our historical investigation, the problem is i have not even chosen my question yet because we have had no help or guidance. I have chosen the topic of the french revolution and have narrowed it down to 3 questions yet i am not sure if they will even be accepted... i cannot ask my teacher for help at this stage as i was supossed to have already completed part A this is why i come to you My three questions are : 1/What impact did the political clubs have on the course of the revolution? 2/In what way did the policies of the cordeliers club differ from those of the jacobin? 3/What was t…

I have been working away on my little IA (very tedious) and i have narrowed my question further. What i would like advice on is: a) Is the question IA worthy? b) Is the way i am arguing effective? If so why? and if not, why not? My question is 'To what extent did early 20th century racial science socially legitimise Nazi racial policy ?' The point i will be trying to get across is that racial science at the time was bastardised by opportunistic politicians who were looking for a way to legitimise their own agendas via science. The reason that they were able to gather evidence that made it possible for them to implement racial policy came from a mutually beneficial rel…

My original HI research questions/topic was about the ways in which the media actually increased the fanbase surrounding the infamous 1930's criminals Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow. I realized after much research that, although I can find plenty of 1st resources that are media pieces like Wanted posters, newspaper articles, cartoons, etc., I can't find how it actually affected the fanbase. I know that it help increase it to a large extent, but I can't find first resources or any articles actually pertaining to the question. Any suggestions on how I can adjust the question to be able to actually write an investigation on it?

I haven't had a chance to talk to my teacher one-on-one yet, but I don't want to wait to revise or improve my topic. She graded it already, but all she wrote was "too broad" and I can't think of any other way to narrow it down more. "To what extent was the League of Nations' inability to enforce the Treaty of Versailles to blame for the cause of World War II?" Thanks a lot!

Let's just say I've become very interested in the Ottoman-Venetian War thanks to being introduced to it by Assassin's Creed: Revelations, and have already researched it in my own free time. Would it be wise to do my historical investigation on this? Considering how it's such an old event and it might be difficult to find primary sources and things of that sort?

Our teacher demands we have our research question ready but I can't come up with anything good. I'm leaning towards the vietnam war since I have alot of interest in it and have done alot of research on it but the only question I can come up with why and how did the us get involved. Ontop of my lack on interest for that particular question I don't think it would make for a good investigation. The major problem here is coming up with a question that is 'narrow' or specific enough to do an investigation on while still being an interesting and good topic. Need help, Thanks.

Hey, currently planning my History IA topic and trying to NOT get a ton of new work load (reading hundreds of new books that is). How close to you EE topic (wrote in history) can you be? My EE topic was: Why did the western powers introduce the appeasement policy and what impact did it have on the outbreak of World War two? Any suggestions of closely linked topics? Don't need a question, just some kind of step in the right direction! Thanks

hey guys im workin on the draft of my HI right now and I have some questions. -I worked with 2 secondary sources, would it be better to include 1 primary source or replace them with 2 primary sources. And if I do that, can I still list most of the evidence in section B.) from my secondary sources? -Do the 2 analysed sources (or at least their most important parts) have to be shown in my appendix? - Do I have to primarily analyse the sources or the historical controversy in section D.)? Remembering information

Hey As I'm sure those you have taken History on the IB or are currently studying the course are aware, there is a huge amount of details/facts and information to remember. I'm currently at the beginning (well, three months in) of my second year and I still feel like I don't know enough detail, such as the dates and stats. With some topics still left to complete, I worry that I won't remember anything for the exam. To be fair, I've never had a great memory and this shows in my other subjects like French, but that's a different story. I would really like some tips/help on how I can retain information more effectively, especially historical dates and facts. I'd appreciat…

Examine the consequences for the Tokugawa Shogunate of Commodore Perry’s arrival in Japan in 1853. How should I answer this question correctly? Should I give a background about the Tokugawa period first and then talk about the consequences such as end of Japan's isolationism and feudalism, modernization of meiji restoration?

My History teacher recently told me that the last years IB2s got really good results on their finals: apparently one got a six, four or five got fives, and the rest got fours, with the odd three. But, to me this doesn't sound very good at all. Does anyone know if this year's History exams were particularly hard? Would love to know as either the exams are really that difficult, or there is something missing that the students at my school don't learn.

I'm having trouble with narrowing down my History IA question and am having difficulty with knowing where to start. My research question is something like: What were the major causes for Gorbachev's lack of response in preventing the fall of the Berlin Wall? My three paragraphs would focus on: - The failure of the 5 year plan and its effect on the Russian Industry - The Afghanistan Occupation - The threat of another war(I'm not too sure about this one) I'd love to hear some feedback on this. Anything I should know before going for this topic? Is the question I have problematic? Do tell! Constructive criticism, no matter how harsh, is needed.

What is the difference between Assess and Evaluate? For example: 1. Assess John Rabe's effort in saving the lives of the Chinese 2. Evaluate the extent to which John Rabe's effort was successful Here's a little background: John Rabe was a German and a Nazi who stayed in Nanking, China during the Second Sino-Japanese War and at the same time WW2. He created a safety zone to save the Chinese ppl from Japanese atrocities such as rape and slaughter. He also made several requests to the Japanese embassy and Hitler to stop the brutal actions committed by the Japanese soldiers, including campaigns back in his home Berlin, Germany. I was told that "Assess" and "Evaluate" are diff…

These are my topics which have been recommended as unsuitable by my teacher. Can anyone tell me why? 1) How significant was the advancement of weaponry in helping the Allies win the war in Europe during WW2 2) To what extent was the Nazi Party's foreign policy directly dictated by Hitler himself [i'm not too sure of the time span, but I'm quite sure its' from the early 1930s to before WW2] 3) To what extent did the consequences of Hitler's dictatorship affect the role and position of women in Nazi Germany? 4) This last topic I cannot phrase properly, but it is the topic I am the most interested in. Hey, all! I am in my first year and am doing HL History. I am the only one in my grade doing HL History, so my teacher is basically letting me chose whether I want to do choose three topics of study from HL option 4: Aspects of the history of Asia and Oceania or HL option 5: Aspects of the history of Europe and the Middle East. Personally, I think that doing the Europe/Middle East option would be a good way to supplement my knowledge of the other things well will be studying in the course, such as WWI, WWII, Russian Revolution, etc. However, I live in China and therefore it would be invaluable to learn more about the area that I am living in. I'm leaning towards Option 5,…

The question I have chosen for my Historical Investigation is: To what extent was the United States motivated by its Cold War policies in mediating the Camp David Accords? Basically this is what I am going to write down in the 'Analysis' section. Is this correct or analytical enough? (Only main ideas, not the real analysis yet) By the 1970s, the Soviet Union was losing influence in the Middle East due to the image of power-hungry it had among Arab states, them not wanting to serve as clients rather that same-level allies. The US needed an active participation in the Camp David negotiations to take credit for their success and reinforce their role as more effective and …

Hey guys, I need to find decent sources for my project on the impact of WWI on Central Powers' civilian population, and I'm having difficult time to find one. My topic for the HI is: How did the Tea Act of 1773 lead to the Boston Tea Party? For the Summary of Evidence I have divided it into sections: Background information, what Tea Act was, and how it led to the Boston Tea Party. Should I add information about the Boston Tea Party as well or stop right before. Would talking about the actual Tea Party begin to be off topic because it is not in my question? In the rubric it states that all information must be relevant so that is the part I am worried about if I discuss the Tea Party itself. Also, if I do talk about what the Boston Tea Party was would I have to add that to my Plan of Investigation?

I already read 3 thinner books, and working on my 4th one. My problem is, what do I do now? Btw, my school wants us to finish our rough draft by the end of December, and will be handed back to us after semester two to do some revising.. What do I do with the books? keep on renewing them? What were most of your sources…
