Hi, I've got a question: Is there any problem with getting well-paid job after historical studies? Or maybe I should choose different studies (but still connected with history) that could provide me with good job? Thanks a lot.

Hi guys, i'm studying HL by myself, the teacher chose option 8 because he thinks it would be easier for us since we studied Nazi Germany for IGCSE. Just one tinny mini question, for the first bullet point: Germany 1919-39L political, constitutional, economic, financial and social problems does that include the rise of Hitler and the Nazi Party?

Hello, I have a question about citing sources in the IA. I have always used parenthetical citations and MLA format for the bibliography/works cited. HOwever, all of the IA examples I have looked at use footnotes. Is it okay to use parenthetical citations or do I need to use footnotes?

I wanted to ask people on this forum how much time you spend planning your essays? In the past i never use to plan much just give me 2 minutes to forecast a series of things to say and then splurt them onto the sheet. Now I have appreciated how important planning is and rereading my essay as I go on with my essay but I sometimes feel I can plan too much. I usually do 6-10 minutes of planning? How much do you guys do? And what do you think is ideal for you and why?

I'm focusing on the Jim Crow era and around when slavery got abolished in 1865, so please check it out and don't be afraid to leave your opinion. Is it too broad? Do you have any ideas for me? All feedback will be greatly appreciated! Question: Analyze the impact of the Freeman's Bureau and miscegenation on race riots, lynching, and the color line by identifying the influence of the black codes.

My history IA has to be somewhat related to the cold war and I would like to use the Angolan Civil War. The problem is I can't figure out anything specific enough it to really nail down the topic, any ideas? I was thinking along the lines of Cuban involvement, but all suggestions are welcome.... Thanks!

I have to come up with the topic for my History IA within the next few days and I wanted some help deciding what to pick. My topic has to "be related to the causes, practices, and effects of war or the Cold War." I'm pretty interested in Economics so I think something involving that would make it more fun and easier for me to do. I know this is a very broad question but I thought I might as well get some suggestions that could capture my interest seeing as I haven't had much time to think about it as I have spent the last week doing my EE and an essay for TOK. Thanks for any suggestions you have.

So i've been thinking about my EE since I have to start on it pretty soon..i decided that i want to do it within the history category. Im just not sure what to do exactly. I dont want my paper to be cliche so im struggling to find a unique topic. I was thinking of very small countries like those in Central America such as Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador and maybe talk about some aspect of their revolution...avoiding Mexico because it has been talked about a lot already. What do you think? I know its very vague and broad...still a thinking about it. Just fishing for ideas right now Any ideas?

Hi Sorry to start another thread about topic help! But I need it. I'm writing about the film "Battleship Potemkin", and another written account of the 1905 revolution. My topic isn't clearly defined, because I need to decide between two paths for which I can take the assignment. I can: a) Write about how accurately the film describes the social situation leading to the revolutions of 1905 (possibly also 1917). Compared to the written account. or b) Write about how the film represents the propagande use of the Soviet state in the 1920s (film is from 1925). Comparing it to a written account of propaganda use. Which is the better topic to go for? Thanks for all help

Help everyone, I just got the IB course companion for history today, we have never used it before since for the past a year, we've been using some IGCSE and a-levels books which are either too general or too detailed. So I decided to order one book over the internet and now I have it, but there are so many topics that we did not get to learn, I just want the syllabus for next May's exam, so that I could study it by myself. AND if possible, please give me some tips as well!! I'm desperate now! Thank you all very much!!!

I wanted to do something along the lines of "To what extent were Russian women in the armed forces during WWII important?" Originally, my teacher just wrote the words 'narrow it' on my topic. Then, when I went to do research, I found that women were neither better nor worse than their male counterparts. I feel like this would make my arguement weak. Is there anyway I can twist the topic to make it still work? Any help at all would be appreciated.

Hey all, i know there's a similar thread to this. Basically I need a list of books which elaborate on the origins of the Cold War or discusses the beginnings of the Cold War. I have the J. L. Gladdis book but are there any other acclaimed books that discuss the Cold War? The other thread has a few books mentioned but I was hoping for a bit more. The reason for this is I'm going to go to the State Library sometime in the next few weeks to work on my Historical Investigation and EE but as it is so large, I don't want to wasted a whole day just looking for books Thanks in advance

Hi! I have a problem. I am going to hand in my IA title and have not got one yet. I like to do something regarding the Israel-Arabic conflict. Have read quiet a lot about the Yom Kippur War and looked some at the six dag war and other major happenings. But I can not come up with any titles. So far do I only have: Moshe Dayan during the Yom Kippur War Moshe Dayan's portray of himself in the Yom Kippur War But I don't know if I like to focus on him or Yom Kippur. I don't want to do like its part in the cold war, showing the connection to US and USSAR. Please help me! Any suggestions?

I would like to know how I could cite the same source twice. I know this is basic essay writing skills and not nececairly history but as it is for my History IA I figured that I might as well post it here. >_<

Hello all! I'm nearly finished with my IA, but I'm concerned about my analysis: I know we're meant to analyse the arguments, but are we also meant to analyse the events? I've mixed together some arguments (3 in total) and some (3) events from my list of evidence and mentioned a few salient facts to support what I've said. Have I done this right? Thank you, HGB.

My history teacher gave my class a month to start and finish our rough copies of our historical investigation. I have no topic and I haven't read anything. Yeah, I know, I'm an idiot for not doing anything. So... does any one have a good topic that's easy to research and that they have already done or are currently doing? I don't really care what it's about, I just need something easy that I can do in a week with as little effort as possible. Thanks... EDIT: I'll look through the history syllabus and look for a topic I think I can do.

Hey guys, my Part A of the IA is due tomorrow and I still am confused about my topic. I mostly want to focus on the atomic bomb, but if you have any other ideas, please do tell.(: Some topics or questions that I brainstormed are: - Were there any alternatives that America could have used to end WW2, instead of resulting to the atomic bomb? - Although the dropping of the bomb opened many doors to advancing the world, was it fair to launch it? - the evolution of the nuclear bomb to nuclear energy These are just some rough ideas, and if you have anything else that might help me with my IA, please let me know. Thanks a lot

Hi, I just joined IB this school year and I think it is a great program but I have terrible teachers. I have a history teacher who doesn't teach and if we ask questions, he would reply with a question tell you that your questions is a good one and you should look into yourself. I have no idea how I am going to pass or get my diploma. My teacher claims that he has 100% pass rate but I don't want to have my diploma at stake after 2 years of hard work. Which textbook do you use? I have a textbook that is for AP U.S.H. and not for IB. I would really like one that will help me learn the information since my teacher won't teach. Thanks

Hi everyone! I am planing to do my IA on China and here are two topics I came up with: To what extent did China's policy of opening up to the outside world benefit the Chinese economy? To what extent did China's policy of opening up to the outside world, introduced by Deng xiao peng, improve the lives of civilians in china? My teacher say I should not make my topic too broad. I haven't done much research in my topic but i think that the chinese economy can be a very broad subject so I don't know if I should take question 1. I've been studying for history for my upcoming exams, and I keep handing in essays to my teacher, who marks them for me. I usually get around 15-17, and the comment she always makes is that if I put in some historiography then I would be getting 18-20 for my essays. But, she gave our class the November 2009 History Subject Report, and one of the striking comments made in that was that the essays which were awarded the highest marks were those without historiography, because most people just name-dropped historians and schools of thought. That leads me to think that you can get a 7 in History without any historiography in your essays. Also, if you look at markschemes for …
