My History class was brainstorming and we believe that the topic for the Nov 2008 Paper 1 COULD be Stalin's Foreign Policy; with a special focus on the Non-Agression Pact of 1939. Any more possible speculation?

Hey guys, Alright so I do HL History and i abcolutaly LOVE it. However, man there is soooooo much course content involved! Is any one else finding the class one of their most stress full subjects or not? Just wanted to know how everyone is coping and what sort of strategies they use to keep up with everything. Our teacher is forever giving us hand outs and photocopies chapters out of various textbooks and i find it terribly difficult to find the times to summarise it all constanlty. Its crazy -wb -soph x

Our class has to do an in class essay tomorrow on the causes of WWI. We're supposed to pick a country and write about how it contributed the most to the start of WWI. He's also marking it in the IB format, so it's kind of a first time thing for me aka i'm kinda nervous of how i match up to IB. So, the country i will blame it on is Germany (most obvious). I'm writing about it's agressive foreign policy (weltpolitik), how it provoked bad French and British relations, and how it started the arms race, the blank cheque which supported Austria Hungary against their "localised" war which turned to become WWI and it's Schliefflen plan. Problem is, for the Schliefflen plan, it's …

Well, I remember reading somewhere that it is not recommended that you write an EE or a Historical Investigation on Mao because the IBO-people who mark the essays (Jeez, I forgot what they're called... anyone?) will be really familiar with it, because of Mao's "popularity" (hehe). Is this true?

As part of the peacekeeping (blablabla...) topic, I am going to do a presentation about the Treaty of Versailles together with two of my classmates. Can somebody give me three different aspects of the Treaty of Versailles which we could work on? e.g. long-term effects, different views among the European leaders concerning how the treaty should be formed, etc.

I wanted to do my paper on some aspect of the Rwanda genocide. Is this too recent?? And if it's not, how can I focus it in to a narrower topic??

I was just wondering if there were any requirements when choosing a topic. Like, does it have to be in a certain time period? And how far back in history does it have to be? Also, any other suggestions would definately be helpful.

Hey I was wondering. How does thistopic sound? "A study on why Stalin kept faith in the Nazi-Soviet pact uptill the invasion in June 1941" Is it too unfocused, or undoable? I read that Stalin indeed had intelligence from many areas about the German Invasion, and was probably planning a pre-emptive strike on Germany. Is there another way I can rephrase my current research Q? Please help guys!

Our teacher's method of teaching us information about Stalin was giving us a 600 page biography for summer reading. We'll probably do some more stuff when school starts up again, but i was just wondering, from those who have already taken this test, or know more than i do at least, how beneficial this will be. or did anyone elses teacher use the same method? just curious.

Welll to get the best marks in History, the mark scheme asks for some sort of Historiography. I just wanted to know how you guys do it?! I've heard two conflicting views. One teacher has said to say for example, AJP Taylor's view on Hitler was that...etc. The other has said you need to be like, Some historians say...but other historians believe....etc. How do you guys do it?

Hi, i am doing my investigation and got marked down in my assessment for using footnotes. My teacher told me to use MLA style instead. I have a bunch of footnotes, and it will be a pin to change them all. My question is can i ahve footnotes for the IB and not be marked down. I will (obviously) provide a MLA style Works Cited Page at the end. Thanks

I have my topic ready for the Historical Investigation - the Extended Essay is bugging me a bit more. What I want to write about is the entrance of the Progress Party in the Danish landslide election in 1973 and I would actually like to write about it in both HI and EE, but how closely related can the topics be?

I'm wondering, what were some of the books that you guys used while you are/were studying the course? I'm planning on doing my Extended Essay on this subject, and I want some good preliminary reference material, because I don't know where to start and we all know how important good sources are for IH.

Okay, So I knew that I was taking IB History of the Americas. I'm almost done with IB 1, and so far this year we've gone through a basic american history textbook. (learned very little because our teacher is dumb, but that is beside the point), and I was under the impression that this class was simply a basic American History class, but more in depth, and with the addition of Latin America, Mexico and Canada. We ended at WWI, have gone through many important events of Latin America, yet we have a whole other year of history. I assumed that somehow this year would consist of WWII, Cold War, and a LOT of review considering we learned nothing this year... but today w…

Hey team! So, I am very fascinated with Japanese history and culture, and I really would like to base my internal assessment around those things! So, one of the topics I'm considering, is an investigation into the conflicting portrayal of Geisha in the book "Memoirs of a Geisha" and, actual accounts from Geisha, and of people involved in the culture at the time... I'm wondering your guys' opinion!

Hello everyone, My history internal assessment is due soon and I just want to ask what others think of my topic. My question that I am doing is "To what extent, did the Korean War Armistice influenced the emergence of the two distinctive sides of Korea (South and North)?" So what do you guys think? Good topic? Also any suggestions of reference/points to look into? Thanks
