Supposingly History paper 1 is the easiest out of all history papers, but after the first test on P1 showed that i have more problems with P1 than with P2. That is partly because my teacher let another student make the test and his explanation of how to do P1 wasn't very good either. To that comes, that I have massive problems organising my time in tests. Can someone please post a format of how to approach P1?or any general tips, for example im not sure whether to quote the sources as evidence in my answers or not.

I cannot for the life of me figure out how to write a good history essay. I'm getting around the 13 - 15 band, but I cannot seem to get into the top band. Apparently a 13 - 15 mark is good (?), but since I didn't so well in the IA (I think) I need to get into that top band to increase my chances of getting a 7. Everyone says to have better analysis, include different interpretations, etc, which is all good advice, but for some reason, it's not translating for me. So, I was wondering, does anyone have any exemplar Paper 2 style essays they'd like to share or know where to find? And perhaps even better, an essay that has comments/critiques clearly outlining what is good/ba…

Hey, So I have about a week to finish the first draft of my history IA, only problem what to write about I need a narrow focus. I will let you know what I have thought about so far, I would like to talk about Winston Churchill in the Second World War. Tomorrow I have to turn in my plan of investigation and my summary of evidence. This is do-able only...I don't know what I'm writing about. I was going to do Woodstock, but I've quickly realized that that may not be the easiest to research. And I don't know how appreciative IB would be about it. I would like to do something regarding New York City, and maybe the 1920s. But I need ideas for a research question! Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!! (: How did New York City's economy in the 1920s affect it's culture? <-- good or bad?

hi:) I was just wondering if it is okay to only use Ebooks as my historical investigation sources. I live in a country where people don't speak English so to buy a book i'll have to order online and wait two weeks. I don't want to wait so i was thinking of buying my sources through amazon. don't know if this is allowed...

Would I be allowed to do a History IA about how Jack in the Box hiring David Theno after their E. coli outbreak in 1993 help their public image? The outbreak was in 1993, but I would be comparing sales and public polls about the company from then and throughout the years up to 2007. I know it isn't supposed to be about something that happened within the last 10 years, but I wasn't sure if this might be acceptable since it occurred 17 years ago. Thanks.

this is our 3rd year of IB. 2nd year of having IB year 2 people. We're starting our IA's and with previous assesments I've had issues with teachers passing off topics I'm not allowed to do. In general what are we NOT allowed to do? I kinda want to do something with Asia. is that disallowed? Also, our teacher is telling us we are allowed to use the topics last year's Year 2 student's topics... I thought this would hav been a big no-no...

Basically here is a quick rundown of things. The course is of the 20th Century, any topic in the 20th century, must be sort of unqiue, and is somewhat easy to find sources. No clue on what to do my History IA on anymore, because my IB coordinator at my school, said my topic was not good. No I'm leaving it up to anyone out there that can meet the standards mentioned before. On a side note, how can one achieve a 7 on the history IA?

In my IA I'm working with a film, "Battleship Potemkin", and a written account on the mutiny. In section B, summary of evidence, should I give an account of the 1905 event as described in different historical source such as history books. Or am I supposed to tell about the events of the film, and my written account. It seems a bit dumb to retell a film in a historical investigation :3 Thanks

Basically, my IB History HL teacher assigned the IA today. He is breaking it up into pieces, but as of now all I need is a topic. I think I want to do something that is related to WWI, but anything in the 20th century is fine. I want it to be pretty unique. I just came up with a maybe, possible topic of something with the Schlieffen Plan. Anyone with any ideas is welcome, i just need help!!

I have spoken to my teacher briefly about a topic for my History IA. We have studied the prescribed topic of 'Arab- Israeli conflict' and so it is better to do an IA around this. I have been looking at the development of Israel, but am really interested in the international side of this, so how other countries e.g. UK and USA influenced and supported the development of Israel. I just wondered if anyone could help me, in focusing it more into a research question or a better idea? Thanks!

What are examples of strong limitations to write for an IA? All I currently have for my secondary source is that it doesnt have a bibliography so I have to corroborate the information with other books, but I dont think this is a very good limitation.

I'm in my first year of IB and I'm in HL History (Middle-Eastern) Tomorrow, we're going to learn to research at this University for our Mock IAs. I'm looking for some topic ideas because I honestly don't know what to do mine on. I was thinking about The Crusades... but what exactly could I make my topic on? Give me some ideas, please? If not on the Crusades, ANY help is appreciated.

Hi guys! I actually need some help; My teacher last year taught us both AP World History as well as attempting to teach us IB History: Asia & Oceania. Although our class did well on the AP exam; I feel like we never focused too much on Asia & Oceania. Are there any textbooks, notes, or resources you would suggest for me to study to do well? Thanks a million : )

Hi. Sorry if there's already a post about this- I did a quick scan of the forum and couldn't see anything, but if there is then lock this thread or delete it. I'm going to do the first war of Scottish independence for my IA because my grandmother's side of the family go right back into that era and I want to look more into it, but my teacher is a bit worried that it may be too far back (it ran from 1298-1328). So how far back are we allowed to go? Thank you! HGB.

Hello! I'm currently a pre-ib student going into IB this September. I hear that I'm going to have a horrible History SL teacher and I was wondering how this will affect my IB experience. Should I reconsider going into IB or possibly drop out if he actually is a horrble teacher? I'm just afraid that one class with really bring down my marks as I have slight difficulties with history. Thank youu!

Hi guys, I really want to read a book on the third reich at war, but am unsure whether to read the Richard Evan's copy of 'The Third Reich At War' or Michael Veranov's book. I want a book that is simple to read, and is not too in-depth. I have been trying to read Richard Evan's 'The Third Reich In Power', but it is too detalied for me, which is quite a put-off altogether. So in your opinion, which book is better to read, for my circumstances? Thanks

This summer I did lots of reading and highlighting on my topic, and have chosen a title: How successful were the Oslo Accords in establishing peace in the Middle East? And did Israel’s relationship with the US (1993-2000) affect its outcome? Now I need to start writing my Historical Investigation, and I guess the first step would be to choose main sources to OPVL (Origin, Purpose, Values, Limitiations).. How do I choose these sources, should they be extracts from the books I read? or something more concrete? How many sources do I choose? HELP!

Herrooo. I was wondering, as I start IB in a month, which of the following does IB History HL focus on, (Americas option): 1492-1900, or 1900-present? I'm asking this because I, in preparation, read and took notes on Howard Zinn's A People's History of the United States first 14 chapters (Up to, and through WWI) and I'm now.. painfully reading A Rise to Globalism by Stephen Ambrose. I just started it today, and it's interesting so far, but how much is it going to help? I think, at least at my school, we don't cover 20th century history until IB2. In that sense, wouldn't it make sense to wait until next summer (as I'm in the US, we have summers..) to read a book that conce…

Hi my question is: To what extent was American entry into the Second World War a direct result of the attack on Pearl Harbour? I can't find economic motives of American entry into the Second World War... Yes the war helped American recover from the Depression, but I don't know how to link it as a motive for entering the war... And also... did the Americans have a desire to spread American influence throughout the world? I can't seem to find any... If you guys can help me make the connections that would be nice Thank you!! I'm doing History HL and after my first 5 or so months in the IB, as well as my first mocks, I've started wondering how my scores in essays, especially in the paper 3 ones, could be improved. I tend to get 13-15/20 points, which is quite good but I would like to increase my odds of getting a 7 from history (as it is also what I would like to do in university). According to my teacher my evidence is fine but in my analysis I need to "go a bit deeper". However, I'm unsure of how this could actually be done - any potentially helpful tips?

Hey everyone! I am just "finetuning" my history IA and I have two quick questions: 1) What should I include in my appendices? In my draft, I basically just included every single source I used. Is that necessary? Or is a list of all the sources sufficient? If so, then what should I include in my appendices? Facts and numbers? And perhaps the two sources I evaluated in the evaluation of sources section? 2) HOW ON EARTH can you stick to the word limit of 2000? MINE IS WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY OVER. Thanks guys!

Hi! I'm planning on doing my Historical Investigation in medieval english history, about the princes in the tower legend, specifically focusing on whether or not Richard III was their murderer. Since most of the evidence for and against Richard in this topic is kind of circumstancial evidence, I was going to take two very differing Historians interpretations of the evidence and contrast them against each other. This means I wont really have any primary sources, because there are virtually no primary sources on this topic. Is this idea ok or should I change it to something with primary sources? Also, if there are any strong Ricardians out there I would love to hear your op…

Hey guys! I wanna do my Historical Investigation on the origins of the Cold War. First I thought about the RQ: "To what extent did mutual distrust between the USA and the USSR cause the Cold War?" But how would I 'prove' distrust?? So I thought about the ideological differences... I read several books on it but the topic is sooo huge. I really don't know how to narrow it down. I thought about the Truman Doctrine or the Marshall Plan but I just can't think of a RQ Does anybody have an idea? I've been reading about the origins of the CW for daaays but I still can't decide on something specific.

Could anyone tell me if the summary of evidence is just a list of facts I found that I will analyze in the analysis part? And what exactly is the conclusion?? So up until the conclusion.. For my historical investigation (my question is To what extent was American entry into the Second World War a direct result of the attack on Pearl Harbour?), I have to discuss the importance of my question and I can't seem to place it.. Should I talk about how the attack on Pearl Harbour gave way to the development of anti-Japanese sentiments and the Japanese-American internment? Or should I discuss the importance of studying the causes of a war? I have a feeling I should do the second one (I'm open to other suggestions too ) but the only problem is that I don't know the answer... Could anybody help me out? Thank you

Hi, I'm new to this site and really wish I had found this earlier in the year, but I figured I'd make use of it at least somewhat this year Anyways, I'm an HA1 student this year and I'm not really sure what formal name of our assignment is because our teacher and the entire class has called it "The Beast" all year. I guess maybe from looking on here that Historical Investigation would be the proper term? Its a 3500-4000 word research paper. The due date is 5/12/10, and so I'm trying to fine tune everything because its worth a lot of points. But right now I'm having trouble with my intro and I just wanted to see if I could get some help with it? "In 1766, The Royal Societ…

I know that we should get a 5-minute reading time for each exam, but my history teacher said that we won't for Paper 3... Is this true? I'm guessing it isn't, especially since I recall having a reading time for French Paper 2 and its four questions. Why wouldn't we for a (horrific!) 25-question paper?

I've been looking through old Paper 3s, and I've found a lot of League of Nations questions (well, about one per year). The syllabus my teacher gave me, though, didn't mention that LoN would be on paper 3, and she never mentioned it as something we should study for paper 3. Has the new curriculum eliminated this topic from Paper 3, or is my teacher wrong (she's not the most reliable on other matters)? If the League is a topic for this paper, I'll probably want to write about it. Thanks.

Hello :') next week we have to have chosen our Historical Invetsigation Topic...and I know that I want to do something with ancient Egypt or ancient Greece, because I am quite bad with modern history and war...I though I could write something like "the role of mythology in ancient Greece", but my teacher said that that is too broad for a topic. So if anyone has already done a Historical Investigation about ancient history or has an idea what my topic could be, please tell me, that would be really nice :') because I am really lost!
