Hello fellow IBs, I'm doing an IA on developmental economics and just wanted to see what what your thoughts are on how suitable this article is to use. Here is the link http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-18419643

Hello! I apologise that this is the first topic I am making on this forum but I just needed to ask people this: why exactly do you like Economics? Or even if you don't, what is your motivation to study it? Because my exams are coming up in 3 months and I found myself utterly unmotivated to study it anymore. Obviously, I don't want to fail and realise that I need to study but I think finding out about what motivated other people to study it, what it is that they find exciting about the subject, will help me even more. And potentially other students just as well.

Hello! I'm an IB student taking Business and Management SL, which is the subject i chose for my EE. my question's just another frequently asked question.. Is my research question general or specific enough and appropriate for the EE? Can I write 4000 words with this question? This is the question: To what extent has the external environment affected Chinese Restaurant's decision to advance into the banquet hall market? I'm planning to use a PEST analysis, Ansoff's matrix, and talk about change of management in my analysis. Chinese Restaurant is a private limited company whose owner i am closely acquainted with, so background data won't be a problem. I'm into my introducti…

Hey guys I'm having a tough time developing my IA. I have my question and it is... In what different ways can The Active Network use Human Resource Management to improve their cash flow? I've found some great supporting documents but I'm having a tough time getting past this question and getting into some good analysis. Help would be greatly appreciated. Hi everyone, I'm thinking of doing my Econ IA on fossil fuels, and how as they run out (scarce resource with negative externalities) they should be replaced with renewable energy. I was thinking of this article: http://www.care2.com/causes/renewable-energy-is-actually-cheaper-than-coal-and-gas-in-australia.html Could any of you look at it and give me an idea of what I can analyze economically in the article? Meaning, how can I translate this to a microeconomics IA?

Hey everyone! I usually don't come here asking for help, but I'm quite helpless this time. When I handed in my margin notes for the IA (microeconomics), the teacher said the article was great, and when I did the IA, when she gave it back, she yelled at us for not even being able to chose an article and also told me without a second look that my article isn't fit for the IA purposes. Could you please take a look and tell me what you think? Because I'd rather keep the article, cause obviously I can't find better ones. Thank you in advance! the article : http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/politics/9707673/Multi-buy-alcohol-deals-face-ban-under-minimum-price-plans.html

They're both over the same thing: Kazakhstan putting a quota on Russian imports of oil products. I could talk about the effect of a quota/embargo on both economies, etc. So yay or nay?

Hi, I'm starting with my B&M IA, and I want to know what do you think about my RQ, If it is narrow enough, and which of them is the most appropriate. RQ: Should XYZ SA invest in the improvement of their promotional mix with the aim of rising their sales? or Should the promotional mix from XYZ SA be improved in order to rise their sales? In both cases I want to apply the same analytical techniques, On the other hand, which research method do you think is the best for those RQs, because I'm considering using the observation for their cashflow and more or less just that, because I don´t consider an interview with the manager could give me the information that I need.

Hi there guys, 1. Is it okay if I will copy paste definitions from economics textbook for my definitions and pretty much of my explanations (but I will still of course relate it to the article) ? should I use citation/ footnotes? 2. Should I explain every single component in the diagram as part of the analysis to achieve full marks? (e.g. why is that MSB curve is located under MPB curve in negative consumption externality) Thanks in advance!

Imagine you are a reporter in StarIndia - News channel. You have just received the news that thailand, mexico, czech republic, china and swiss devalues its currency.present this as a news analysis to a layman.(terms used have to explained clearly, the MLC,J-curve has to be used - be very createive in doing this- you can even an economist on board - I would suggest Paul Krugman, its upto you).

Hello, So I was wondering if anyone had advice on getting high marks in HL Business and Management, for the exams? This is the first year that my school has introduced the option of business, so my teachers don't have any experience about what to expect. And I am aiming for a level 6 or 7 for my exams (which are next year). I just want to start preparing early because I know this is a very tough course. And any advice from people who have also taken this subject in the past would be extremely beneficial! Thank you

My article is about how the fall in coal price -> reduction of coal firms supply -> fall in heavy equipments. I'm told that it's better to have 3 diagrams in an IA, but so far I can only think of 2 First, is just a simple diagram of movement in supply curve of coal firms. Second, is a leftward shift in demand curve of heavy equipment. I don't think I can talk anything related to tax because there's no such information on the article. ANY INSIGHT PLEASE? Thanks in advance!

Hey guys. I recently had a REALLY intense week with assignments and culminatings and test after test. I'm sure you've all had similar experiences. All I have left now are exams but I'm having trouble being able to concentrate because of something... You see, I recently submitted my second economics commentary. At the time -since I was in such a difficult situation, and because I was having trouble reducing my word count- I just stopped at 758 words. 8 words over the word count. I just reasoned that they wouldn't be able to to tell 8 words since it is submitted in hard copy, unless they counted every single word and just handed it in. One of friends was telling me after s…

I recently received back the corrected IA draft in microeconomics and what confused me was the comment by the teacher - I have no models of economic theory in margin notes of the article. What exactly are 'models of economic theory' because what I have are definitions of key terms regarding the article and complementary graphs where possible. Could You, please, explain and give examples? Thank You!

Hey guys, I'm studying for a economics test on externalities and I have some trouble understand the graphs. For example: If I want to look the externalities of smoking ciggarettes. So on my graph, S = MSC and D = MPB. Smoking is a negative externality because it affects people around you in a negative way. So now I know that the new curve will be to the left of either S or D.I thought that the new curve should be to the left of the demand curve because the marginal social benefit is lower that the marginal private benefit. But this is apparently wrong. My book is calling the "initial" supply curve for S = MPC (marginal private cost) and then the new supply curve is S = MS…

Hey guys. I am currently doing my business IA on the topic Human Resource Management. My RQ being, (1.)"should business X change into a more formal organizational structure to solve low staff morale?". The main solution that I am trying to suggest is whether this business should take on line managers for HR since the business I am analysing about is an informal one and the owner multi-manages all aspect of the the company including finance, HR and production, esp HR. In a sense, the owner of this company acts as HR recruiter, manager and supervisor and oddly, the business does not have line managers since they've only opened 2 outlets. This business is a fast-food chain r…

Hey guys. I was wondering, can we have more than one SWOT analysis in a business IA? My topic for research question is whether company X should change into a formal organization structure to assist in staff morale. I am halfway done and have already created swot to explain strengths and weaknesses for the business itself. Ok, so I've got my IA due for Business Management HL in a few weeks, but I have some problems. My teacher didn't give me the greatest feedback to work with after my draft so now I'm kinda faced with a couple problems. Ill start from the top. 1. I didn't actually use any business tools....I just kinda went with it and I didn't really feel that it needed like a SWOT or PEST analysis, or any tree or fishbone diagrams. On a scale from 1 - 10 (10 being the highest), how screwed am I if I continue with this? 2. I didn't really do any primary research. I'm choosing this for my econ ia in international economics http://edition.cnn.com/2012/11/05/opinion/hong-kong-postcard/index.html?iref=allsearch (please only read up to the first 6 paragraph) It talks about how china keeps it's currency artificially low (mainly by buying a lot of US dollar to make the value of US dollar > china's yuan) and all that, ,my question is that since the demand of US dollar is increasing due to China's act and it's appreciating, how come in paragraph 6 it mentioned US dollar weaken? The only reason i can think of is that demand of China's export in US increases due to it's low value and thus people sell US dollar to buy Yuan, thus making US …
