Hey guys, I have my HL History paper 1 & 2 final exam tomorrow (ugh) and I just need a bit of last minute help. How important is it to memorise historian's quotes and interpretations for each topic? I know all the basic historiography stuff for Cold War and Stalin but I don't really have much for any of the other topical is it absolutely necessary to get good marks on the essays for paper 2 and 3? Or can I still get decent marks without using it? Thanks!

Hey, I finally figured out an IA topic that I don't think would be too overdone, but still has to do with the Holocaust. I would like to do something with the "Hitler Youth" program. The only problem is I'm having trouble narrowing it down to a focused question. Maybe something like, "To what extent did the Hitler Youth program successful?" I know that question doesn't sound very good, I want to investigate what the program was about/ did and maybe it's effect on families or WWII?

Hi, everyone. This is my first post! I am struggling a lot with writing "great" Paper 2 and 3. I have read a few posts here saying that history is a manageable course, a course that would guarantee a 6 or 7 if you pay enough effort. Those posts also said that you will get a good mark in History if you are good in other Arts courses, like English and Psychology. I found that very surprising, because in our school, History is one of the hardest courses ever. I am getting 6 in English and 7 in Psychology, but in History, I am getting a low 5 It's not only for me, but for other students too. 2/3 of our class is getting 4s, and 1/3 (clearly, a minority) is getting a l…

Hello guys, I'm currently writing my History IA while checking out the criteria for it. In section D, which is the Analysis, it says that it should include: • an awareness of the significance of the sources used, especially those evaluated in section C • a consideration of different interpretations of evidence, where appropriate. Can you please help me understand what these two bulletpoints actually mean and require? Since I cannot seem to understand them. Thank you in advance!

Hello all! I'm currently finishing up my EE and in my essay I mention the Soviet Russia a few times. Now, English is not my mother tongue so I'm not sure if it is ok I just call them the Soviets (too informal?) or should I call them the USSR? Regards, Flomer

Hey guys! I need help refining my question for my SL History IA. I want to look at how the Tiananmen Square Massacre affected the perspective of the Chinese people in regards to political change. Basically, how the Massacre made them realize that they weren't going to get any change. I'm going to look at interviews and other primary source documents for this. Can someone help me figure out how to better phrase my research question?

Hello! My History IA due date is quickly approaching and I am currently trying to perfect my research question. I have a pretty good idea on what I would like it to be about, but I am worried that my current question is not focused enough. Would someone please let me know if they think this is an appropriate question, or areas in which I could revise it to make it stronger? Thank you! Edit: My history teacher requested that I take the question down so as to avoid any possible plagiarism accusations. If the mods would like to delete this post, please feel free to!

Hi, so i decided that i'd do my HI on the Cuban Missile Crisis time period and Kennedy because he has always intrigued me. For my RQ i still haven't really found a concrete question and the rough draft is due Thursday. So is this good or too broad? "To what extent did the Bay of Pigs lead to the Cuban Missile Crisis?" Also, i heard that you do one HI your junior year, then a second HI your senior year. Im curious as to why.

Hello! I was thinking about doing something like How significant was the Treaty of Versailles as a cause of WWII? Is it too much that I already suppose it is a cause? Also, it doesn't seem really 'refined' to me, but I don't know how to formulate it better. Help? Thanks in advance!

For my IA, I was thinking of the question: To what extent did Palestine's resistance to the United Nations partition plan lead to the outbreak of the arab-israeli war of 1948? The specific partition plan from the UN is the Resolution 181, but I don't know if that will fit well with the RQ... Any advice would help. And if you have knowledge on either the arab-israeli war or the diaspora, do share.

Hello, I was thinking of ways to narrow down my Historical Investigation topic and Initially I wanted to write about Hitler's influence on Himmler's rise to power but I found it too difficult to research. Now I am thinking of "To what extent was the Waffen-SS responsible for failure of Operation Barbarossa?" Is it too narrow? Too overdone? Impossible to argue? Thank you.

Hello! I was wondering if anyone who is studying / has studied the Cold War could recommend a history book about it? Our history teacher is having trouble finding a suitable one as we're studying the entirety of the war rather than just the origins. We've looked through the Cambridge text book but it's not 100% accurate (according to our teacher) and I decided to come here to ask for a better alternatives. Thank you!

Hi, I'm looking to write my historical investigation on how succesful the UN has been as a supranational peacekeeping organization, but my teacher's said that I should narrow it down to one specific event where the UN has intervened. However, I'm having trouble thinking of a specific topic that I can write about, any suggestions? I'd like to avoid any ground that's already been "trampled on" like the Arab-Israeli conflict or the Cuban Missile Crisis. I was thinking about the Korean War, could this be a good idea?

Hey guys, I've been looking for some ideas for my History IA. I have to do it on Napoleon and came up with a few questions. I'm just afraid that they're going to be too broad to write a good IA on. I appreciate your help "To what extent did Napoleon's Policies limit the growing independence movement of women?" "To what extent did the Napoleon Code uphold the ideals of the French Revolution?" "To what extent did Napoleon Bonaparte uphold the ideals of the French Revolution?"

Hey so I'm in IB History of the Americas HL and it's come time for us to pick our IA topics. Since it's History of the Americas does the research question have to deal with the Americas?? Also I would really like to do something on the holocaust (yes it's overdone probably). Would the Americas reaction to the holocaust give me enough words? I don't really know what America has to do with the holocaust lol, but maybe their reaction to it? If I can't find anything on the holocaust then I would probably like to do something on the Great Depression, possibly the causes, but I think that's too broad? Any tips on finding a topic?

Hello all! I'm starting my history IA now, with the first draft due in a bit over a month. Hello fellow IB students and alumni, I am currently trying to find a topic for my History IA. The question I have currently is, "In what ways and to what effects has integration into the European Union led to less political autonomy for European states, but more freedoms for their people?" I plan to focus on the European Union's history as a whole, as it is a relevantly new political entity, but would also like to include some information about the treaty of Lisbon. However, this occurred in 2009, which was definitely not 10 years ago. So my question is--how strict is the IB about the ten year requirement? If the majority of my research and argumentation is based around e…

hey fellow IB nutters! So i just started IB a few days ago, and my HOTA teacher has given us an assignment in which we must formulate 10 questions about a section of reading. This sounds very easy, and I thought it would be, but actually it's a lot harder than I thought- the questions we ask have to coincide with Blooms Taxonomy ("to what extent," etc). The thing is, i can't think of anything that would cause people to give an extensive answer. How do you go about creating good questions?

Hey Guys i have been constantly reading that History HL is really hard ( speaking of the workload ) and it's also one of the hardest subjects to get a 7 in. I like History but more like the stuff with the monarchy and all this. Russian Revolution and Hitler is also very interesting for me. I have chosen Route 2 for History. I really need to get a good grade in History and is it really that hard ? My Questions: Do or have you taken History HL and how is/was it ? How would you consider the amount of workload ? How was the History exam ? Did your teachers encouraged you to do History ? ( My IB coordinator for example said: Don't take Physics or Chemistry at a HL guys you w…

Hi everyone! The title says it all. History is not one of the subjects I've chosen for my diploma curriculum, but my choice for the test was either it or geography. I won't study any of them, but I prefer being tested on history rather than on geography, the latter being a subject I haven't been studying for years. I have no clue of what my exam will be about, actually, so I've decided to read and lightly study summaries on the major topics I've studied in the last years (i.e. roughly from the Middle Ages to the Seventieth century) and, in addition to this, study three topics I've chosen as "core". My "core" topics I'll put an emphasis on are: 1.Renaissance, with an in-de…

Hello, Could you please help me with structuring my essay? The title is ' The bolshevik state under lenin between 1918 and 1924 was a ruthless dictatorship, caring little for the russian people' To what extent do you agree with this statement? I don't know what to put in the fourth para…

Hi there whoever clicked on this - thank you so much. EDIT: This thread was previously about Rwanda, but since then I changed my idea, to talk about Marie Antoinette. In her trial there were a multitude of crimes that they had her up for (incest, treason, etc.) Should I perhaps analyse her guilt for one of these crimes? She and King Louis failed to produce offspring for about 7 years, and there was propaganda that she was infertile when in fact it was him. Should I examine the cause of their failure to produce offspring? Or the propaganda? Or....Which of these do you think is the most "do-able"? And if so, could someone perhaps help me focus my research question a bit more…

I'm starting the IB in a few weeks, and I'm slightly confused as to which type of history my school has chosen. I know there's Europe and HoA. I asked the teacher what sort of things we'd be covering and he mentioned Russian and French history, but then someone else said it deals a lot with US history (possibly Caribbean/Mexican? my memory is hazy) as well. Basically I am confused. Which of the two is it?
