Ok, so I have a mock Paper 2 exam coming up in about a week and we got the question beforehand. We're allowed to bring an 150 word outline into the essay and we have 60 minutes to write it. The problem is that I don't know how to structure it. For us, we have to talk about three challenges Trudeau faced during the time he was prime minister and the extent to which he successfully dealt with those challenges. Do I just stick with a 5 paragraph essay? What is the key to doing well on a Paper 2 essay? Thanks!

Hello IBSurvival! So I just started to think about my EE and I was hoping you guys could help me out ! In order to help me, I would like you to please think about one or to two topics (the more the better) that really interest you in History. I don't need anything too specific nor want you to write my research question or anything, just suggestions about what part of History I could write my essay on. For instance, "Modern Egyptian History" would be an example. Simply a topic that you specially like, and from there I will look into it and keep researching. PLEASE try to narrow it down to events or periods of history from the 17th-18th century onwards, mainly be…

Hi! I'm new to this site so sorry if my formatting isn't right. I am in the process of formulating my research question which is currently "In what ways did political corruption affect the outcome of the Progressive Era", but I'm pretty sure it's too broad and may also be overdone. Any thoughts??

I was thinking of reading some books by myself for history that could probably help me, but I have a hard time choosing what books to read. Are there any books that you would recommend other than textbooks? For History HL, our class has chosen Paper 1: [Peacemaking peacekeeping and international relations]Paper 2: [Origins and development of authoritarian and single-party states] & [The Cold War]Paper 3: The Americas ([The Great Depression and the Americas 1929-39] & [The Cold War and the Americas 1945-1981] & [Civil rights and social movements in the Americas]) *Edit: When I looked through my textbook I realized they recommend a list of books that you can…

I'm planning on writing about the US intervention in Chile when they helped overthrow Salvador Allende and comparing the events there with the US' actual policy of containment/intervention during the time period. My question is currently "To what extent does the US containment in Chile reflect the general containment policy at the time?" I feel like the wording's a bit off but I don't really know how to fix it.

Hi everyone! I'm currently in the process of choosing a topic for my history ia. I want to talk about the Cold War, specifically the Korean War, but I'm having a hard time choosing a research question that relates to it. I was thinking something along the lines of "To what extent did the battle of Incheon affect the outcome of the Korean War?" But I fear that it may be too broad. Any ideas or tips in coming up with a research question would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

I'm doing my topic on Germany's use of Blitzkrieg in WW2. I am concentrating on its successes and failures: specifically in France of 1940, and then its failures in Stalingrad and Operation Barbarossa from about 1941-1943. How should I format my question? Idk how specific or general to stay. Also, is my question argumentative enough? Or should I change my scope.?

Hi, So, Part B of my IA (Summary of evidence) is due in 2 days, and I have a few questions. Should I do it in point form or paragraph form? I'm a bit unsure about this, so I want to make sure I choose the better format. Also, what do I do if I can't find many sources? The information is not the problem; I have more than enough information. The problem is I don't have enough sources. Right now I have 5 sources (4 books and 1 disseration). I have all the information I need just from these 5 sources (in fact I have more than I need), so what should I do? Another thing, what if I can't find any primary sources on my topic? I have the 5 sources mentioned above, but they'…

Hi, My subject for the HI was originally going to be about how Stalin's Great Purge was more effective than the Bolsheviks' red terror. I was going to look at the secret police, the influence on the civil war and the West's reaction. My teacher said it was a good topic but it would be too much for 2000 words so I should pick either one or the other instead of doing a comparison. But I can't figure out how to make it into a thesis in that case. Can someone help me come up with a less broad subject? Thanks.

He also said that if i could find the markscheme, i should keep it so i can check my answers after answering the questions on the exam so i can improve my skills. Thanks for reading and hope i can get some help soon.

My history teacher became sick leaving my class with a sub for 3 months. The substitute we got only knows how to receive work and is a master at dodging questions leaving me pretty lost when it comes to what to write for my Historical Investigation Analysis. My question is "To what extent is the movie Alexander an accurate reflection of Alexander the Great?" and I've completed my Summary of Evidence + evaluation of sources with some information on two of the battles depicted in the film. I'm absolutely clueless when it comes to what to write and how to write it/format it and can't seem to find any solid examples to get an understanding of what my work should look like. …

Hello there IB people! Yesterday I did both History Paper 1 and 2, but the thing is that in Paper 2 I answered the two questions in like an hour. Previously, I had read some posts here that suggested no taking too long on writing the essays, as sometimes you can run out of time, so I was kind of concerned that my answers hadn't been long enough. I wrote about one page and a bit more in each question, and did answer specifically to what the question asked. So, what do you think? Will I get very low marks on this one? Thanks a lot for your answers!

I have my exams in May 2015 and I am sad to say that I have yet to find an effective way to study for history. Fortunately I find the subject pretty easy to understand. Also, I am predicted a 6 in the subject, so it is not as if I am really struggling. However, i am really interested in the subject, and I really want to do the best that I can do. Therefore I'm looking for suggestions as to how I could effectively study for the first and second paper. I don't feel like I learn a lot from just reading the book or even my teacher's notes, as I just zone out after about 10 seconds. So what should I do? Rewrite the notes? Make flashcards? Make mindmaps? What has worked f…

Hello! I'm working on my IA topic and I've really gravitated towards doing it on lobotomies. My question is: To what extent were lobotomies used to control women and African Americans? I'm pretty sure this question is too broad right now, so any ideas on where to narrow it down would be greatly appreciated! I'm also curious on the feasibility of this topic. My teacher warned me not to get off topic by discussing the science behind lobotomies, but I assured him that I wouldn't dream of doing that-- science is not my thing haha. I think I might end up traveling into a lot of bioethical implications, but I'm not sure if that's necessarily okay.

Hi. I'm working on a history EE, and i've researched a substantial amount. i have sources that would work for a variety of research questions. my problem is whether the one i've sort of settled with is deep enough, and if i wouldn't be narrating historical events. Hi guys, Tomorrow is my first Paper 1 test on a subtopic from "Peacemaking, peacekeeping—international relations 1918–36," and I just had a few questions- The test will be on the first 31 pages of my textbook; is it necessary to really study (memorize) all of this, because as far as I know only question 4 (out of 4) on Paper 1 requires your own knowledge. Questions 1 and 2 are directly from the sources, and 3 is OPVL, so that might be sources and your own knowledge (little of both), but 4 is really the only one where your own knowledge is required. So should I study a lot from the 32 pages or just leave it, as question 4 is the only one that really requires all th…

Hello world! So, IB is slowly starting to trample my schedule with assignments, IAs, projects and whatnot. One of the assignments I have to do is a historical investigation, and I had to come up with a good investigation question, but I don't know if it's good or not.. Hello, I am new to the forum and I'm loving it so far. History HL is mandatory at my school, and I have absolutely no idea how to go about this. I was thinking of doing something related to Spanish, Finnish, or even Russian history. I've been thinking I could compare Santiago Carrillo with Stalin, yet I am guessing I would have to narrow this a bit. How could I go about doing that? Do you think it would be a good idea? I'm supposed to submit my first complete draft of my History IA tomorrow, and so far it hasn't been going so well. My question is "In what ways did anti-semitic propaganda contribute to the rise of Hitler and the Nazis?" So basically it's a "rise of nazism" question, so pre-1932, with lots of propaganda analysis (cartoons, speeches etc). The question seemed fair at first, but my teacher is telling me that my sources aren't relevant and that I may need to reevaluate. Also, as it turns out, anti-semitic propaganda really didn't have much of an effect on the rise, so I would need to go against my own question in Section D. Any help on how I should tackle th…

Hi guys, So tomorrow I have a History test, and it's basically in an essay format. We're going to be given 3 questions, where we choose 1, and write an essay on it. The unit is WW1: Causes, Practices, and Effects. Our teacher said that the test can be on anything from the WW1 chapter in our book, which is about 75 pages! How can I study for this? I mean, I'm supposing a question per topic, Causes, Practices, and Effects will be on the test, as there are 3. So I will pick one of the 3 to answer (causes, practices, or effects). So do I just study maybe 2 of the 3 topics? That way I can probably hit at least 2 of the 3 questions. Or should I just study 1 in extreme detail,…
