Hey guys, So I wanted to do my History IA on 9/11 conspiracy theories, which counts as a piece of history due to it being 10 years ago now. My first question was about how evidence "supports or refutes the belief of conspiracy theories in 9/11", but my History teacher told me the question was problematic, and that my draft was pretty bad, and instead I should make it "What evidence points towards US Government complicity in the 9/11 attacks?" I want to know if this is worth trying, or if I should just scrap it and start again. I'm starting to get a wee bit stressed out as the IA is due in in two weeks!!

Hey people, any ideas for history IA? Currently I've got this topic: To what extent can Turkey’s actions towards Armenian population in 1915 be accurately described as the deliberate and systematic destruction of Armenian national group (genocide)? However I'd like to know some other topics because I find this one a bit broad and boring.

Hi guys, so I've been researching for the historical investigation, and I've been having trouble narrowing the scope of the investigation. My original research question was 'To what extent did the imperial ambitions of Britain and France shape the Treaty of Sèvres?' but I quickly realized that the Treaty is pretty convoluted--in dissolving the Ottoman Empire a ton of new countries were created, each with their own responses to the harsh nature of the treaty (Arabs, Zionists, Turks, etc.). My teacher suggested assessing either the responses of one of these new nations or looking at the peace conferences in isolation (not going into depth about their consequences). I fee…

So I'm doing something on Stalin's rise to power. Any good questions for that? I was thinking maybe even doing something about his early life and what fueled his desire for power. Please help with coming up with a good question! I'm doing this last minute so I'm extremely desperate so ANY help would be greatly appreciated Update: I've decided to write my ia on the political climate of the Soviet Union during Stalin's youth and how it impacted him as a future ruler . Is this too broad of a topic? I still need help with developing this into a good question...

Hey guys, so I'm doing my IA and I'm considering doing a paper on the Cold War. I'm aware that this topic has been overdone so I'm trying to do something different with it. I was thinking about talking about the Moscow Olympic Games of 1980 and how they were affected, or how international relations were affected. I would really appreciate if you have suggestions on how to improve this topic or if I should change it. Thank You

Hi! I recently posted about my History IA Topic (about a month ago) and since then have decided to change topics, it's now "To what extent was the Kornilov Affair responsible for the decline of the Provisional Government?" I don't know if it's too broad, whether I should change it to the "decline in support" perhaps? And I'm having a difficult time finding primary sources... I've only found 1 that's completely relevant and another is on figures of membership of the Bolsheviks in June v. in September. Idk where to find anything that's useful/related... This whole history IA is so annoying Any help at all is extremely appreciated!!

I REALLY don't like history. There. I said it. I still need to do a historical investigation in History of the Americas though, and my teacher is pushing us to pick a topic now so that we can work on it over the summer. He wants us to do something within the three themes we've been touching on which are policies during the Great Depression, WW2, and the Cold War. I, however, am not interested in that at all, and I know that if I pick a topicthat I don't like I will be very likely to put it off until the last second. I want to do something different. I am very arts oriented and I like learning about women's rights, so I thought about talking about how female movie stars d…

Hey everyone! My research question is: How significant was the Watergate Scandal in the resignation of Richard Nixon? However, I'm having trouble coming up with a second source to use for my "Evaluation of sources" (OPVL) Do you have any suggestions? My first one is: A political cartoon titled "Nixon Hanging Between the Tapes" produced by Herbert Block. Hope you can help!

So I've heard from my teacher that there is a 'ten year rule' for the IA. The event that I want to talk about is the (US) Supreme Court case Wickard v. Filburn, and the SCOTUS's ruling, which happened in 1942. I know either way that this will be okay because it was over 50 years ago, but I want to talk about the repercussions of in my investigation. For that I would like to mention how that ruling was used as precedence for the passing of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act in the US recently. Because it one result/effect (of many I will mention) and not the actual event, can I still talk about it? If so could someone point me to the official rule/guide that h…

So basically in my IB History of the Americas class, my teacher never gave us any journal articles to read and never taught us any historiography. I am super solid on all of the factual information and used a crapload of historians on Papers 1 and 2. How bad would it be if I don't mention any historians on the paper 3 exam tomorrow? (Believe me, I'm trying to cram right now)

I'm having trouble with my plan of investigation. I'm not really sure if what I wrote works or not. If someone could please shed some light on whether or not this is on the right track that would be great. A: Plan of Investigation: Who were the main contributors to the fall of the Soviet Union and to what extent were they involved? The aim of this investigation is to assess the role that political leaders, specifically Gorbachev and Reagan, played in the fall of the Soviet Union. The investigation focuses on the relations between Gorbachev and Reagan and how these relations led to the end of the arms race, the end of the cold war, the down turn of communism and the collap…

So my class has just started to discuss topics for our IAs and I'm really unsure of what to pick. I've been told to pick a topic we are going to study later so it doubles as revision but the topics we're doing later don't interest me that much but everything is still pretty up in the air at the moment. I'm more interested in European politics from the late 19th to 20th century than other topics but in saying that I'm thinking of doing something about Cold War Russia or propaganda used in this era by either side or even compare leaders in this era with those of the past (like how people have compared Napoleon I with Hitler). My class is going to be studying: Peacemaking, p…

So I need a 4 for my HL History exam, and am wondering if anyone can suggest precisely what to study in order to cover the likely questions that may come up on this years exam. Also any content that people have found to cover multiple bases would be much appreciated, as well as any good online resources/notes to use. Currently I am using https://rudbeck-ib-history-revision.wikispaces.com/ and am studying the causes and effects of WWI, WWII, the Cold War and then studying Alexander II, III, and Nicholas II with the Russian revolutions for paper 3. So I have an essay to do on WW2 (900 words) but i'm not sure if my structure is good. I'm not finished yet but Could anyone give me tips ? In what ways, and to what extent, was the Second World War "total war"? A total war is a conflict where nearly all the resources of a society are employed to defeat an opponent. The Second World War can be considered as the quintessential modern total war both by its physical and ideological scale. This essay will discuss the different ways by which the 1939-1942 war can be qualified as a total war. The Second World War was, above all, a war of ideas. The countries involved majorly used political relations and economical re…

Hello! Soon it is time for us to hand in our second draft internal assessment in History. Now I have a question with regards to the marking process: Do the examiner(s) look up the sources (books) that we have used in the investigation? I am asking since I think I made a mistake in the referencing part. I borrowed a book from a library located in another city and it has been returned, thus I am wondering, will i lose marks for a mistake in the referencing? Would appreciate an answer!

Hello, I like things to be correct grammatically but i was wondering as both Duma and Zemstva are names of forms of government in Russian history. Dumas being the local governments in the towns (and later the national government) and Zemstvas being local councils in countryside areas/ They are both names, are in another language. I am wondering if they require a capital letter, I have done searches on Google and found different websites saying both. I would like to know if anyone knows the right answer or just want to say what you do. Thanks in advance

Hi there everyone! Since my history teacher is useless and does not teach us anything, I would like to consult you guys on which of these research questions would be the better route for my IA for HL History of the Americas: 1)To what extent was the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan a deciding factor in the development of Canada as a nation? or 2)Compare the effects of the Second World War on the development of Canada and Mexico as major nations. I am currently leaning more towards the former, but I want to be able to know a bit more about Latin America than what is being taught in class for the IB exams. Hello, so I am interested in exploring some parts of American history with this internal assessment. I have the following ideas: 1. Integrating African Americans into Caucasian schools in the USA –Compare what the situation was in a Southern State to a Northern State (perhaps Arkansas vs New York?) 2. Vietnam War (and Code Orange) 3. Portrayal of Native Americans in US media in the 1950s 4. McCarthyism I know the last three ideas are still very vague. I was thinking of choosing the first idea, could a compare and contrast answer work with this? Which idea do you prefer best and do you have any advice? plus how advanced/complex do these questions have…

Hi! So I have started researching for my History IA and have to come up with a topic for the Wednesday that's coming up. So far I have a title, but am unsure about whether it will be doable/if it's much too broad? The question that I'm working with now is "To what extent was the American population's exposure to media responsible for the ending of the Vietnam War?" I did the Vietnam War last year for my IGCSEs, so I have some knowledge of it already. My teacher has said that although it is a broad topic, if I focus on a very specific aspect/area it would be okay, it's just the problem of finding sources for this topic for me, I think. I'm looking around for sources t…

Hi IBSurvival! I am finishing up my history IA. The question is "TWE did the Civil Rights Act of 1964 Reflect and Support the Goals of SNCC Chairman John Lewis?" What do you think of that? Anyway, I was working on my section C, and I was examining Lewis's speech at the March on Washington. I had a statistic about how many people were at the March (his audience) and a quotation from the speech that I wanted to use as an example of rhetorical hyperbole for a limitation. Neither of these were in my evidence, Section B. So, my question is: Can we cite sources in Section C, or must everything we reference there be from Section B? And while I'm at it, I'm not really even l…

I'm doing my historical investigation on the Marshall Plan. My question was initially "To what extent was the Marshall plan effective in rebuilding Europe economically, socially and politically?" (will most likely change this to just economic) but after hunting down loads of sources, it was difficult to find anything on the CONSEQUENCES of the Marshall Plan. I also found that the sources talked about how the Marshall Plan was created for ideological reasons (i.e. to counter communism). Hello everybody, I am revising History first because that's the subject that is the most timeconsuming and most difficult for me, so finishing History first I will feel more relieved when I study for other subjects. That is why I want to be done with History this week. I am missing Arab-Israeli Conflitc (paper 1) and Cold War (paper 2). I had another option in paper 2 but what is different from Cold War is that you can study leaders "individiually" if you get me. Whereas for Cold War I feel that I cannot have the same choice of freedom to pick what I can focus on. I do not really know what to do with Cold War at all. I do not think I will remember everyhing because I am…

In my history class, my teacher assigns us a prompt and then we write a full outline for that prompt. It's not just the scribbled five minute outline you do before an exam. He wants at least a page long, in full sentences for explanation and analysis, the full shebang. That's due on turnitin at 7:40 am sharp, when school starts. Later that day, we have 50 minutes to write a full essay on the same prompt, usually with the outline. [For legit tests we don't get outlines and we're randomly given one of up to ten prompts.] I don't have any problem doing the outlines. They take time but they're easy. The problem is, I put in too much information, either from the texts we're gi…

Hey everyone! I'm at the moment writing my History IA and I need some help.
