Hi,so I'm new to IB survival and getting to know things. So we just started working on our group four presentations, and we came up with a topic to work with fuels. But are not able to narrow it down. IF you guys have any suggestions, please help me. If fuels is just too much please give me an alternative to work on. My school is nearby a lake and some farms and barren land. A factory is located nearby too.

I'm working on my IB group 4 project right now from the Biological aspect. We're looking at water pollution and my subtopic is natural ways of treating waste water. Even though this is a very interesting topic, I couldn't do an experiment. My teacher suggested that I just make a model of some water purification method using plants and the rest of my project can be a sort of survey based on examples where people used plants to purify water. My question is, can I do this? I don't have a real experiment, I just do a survey to compare and evaluate other people's case studies. Plus make a model. Does the lack of an actual experiment make my project less credible? Or would I …

So my group 4 project will be in about a month from now. My school has arranged it to be done at a campsite in the mountains. I've been assigned to a group of 3, 1 physics, 1 bio, 1 chem. I'm the physics student. My group has chosen to work the project around a type of flower called hydrangeas. If you want to know more about them, here you go: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydrangea So... Truthfully... Admidtedly... Actually... I'm confused of what to do. Hydrangeas grow wildly all over the campsite. Their colors are determined by the soil pH which will eventually change their pigmentation. So they're not that much affected by physical conditions. So i need to come out wit…

So i'm a physics student. My school's IB department has organized a group 4 project site to be at a camping ground somewhere in the mountains. I've been assigned to a group, 1 Physics, 1 Biology and 1 Chemistry student. So this is kinda easy for the biology or the chemistry students, they could pick a type of plant and study the contents, chemically and biologically. While me, the physics student, i have no idea... So i'm looking for help here, could anyone please help with ideas. The campsite has nearby plantation facilities with varieties of plants such as strawberries, hydrangeas, etc. So it's now up to me (and other physics students) to decide a topic, and then the ot…

Hi guys, for my group 4 projects, we are given our topics "something to do with natural disease that had an impact on Australia" , considering the matter from three different point of views : Physics, Chemistry and Biology I am really stuck and confused about my group 4 project as I don't know what experiment can be done with the common theme 'Natural disease in Australia'. Specially in Chemistry as the experiment as i can't think of any experiment. Can you please suggest some ideas of the experiments about the theme. I am not quite sure what should i investigate on, like my topic and everything, but i do have a proposed topic (can you guys give me some ideas on whethe…

So for out overall group 4 topic it is the correlation between natural disasters and climate. So my group's natural disaster is tsunamis. From a bio point of view. Out " supervisor" hasn't really told us anything or tried to help us out. Different people are telling us different things. I was first just wondering when this is due? I was thinking of drowning plants and then measuring the CO2 emissions over the weeks as it decomposes. I don't really see how any experiment I do can be accurate, but would that be fine with ib?

Hello, I have just finished my G4 presentation and my journal/reflection is due tomorrow. In the Action section, it says present processed data. But I was wondering if it's ok that a lab was NOT carried out, but pure research was carried out instead. The reason for this being that it was difficult to find materials to do a lab in physics. -Thanks

I did my Group 4 presentation yesterday and my teacher told us our score. (I received a 26 out of 30, she said my group got three points deducted for going over) Is the score that I receive the score that is sent to the IB people, or is it just for her?

So my Group 4 project is thermal energy and all I have been able to come up are the ideas all my physics and chemistry teachers call "simple". That's a bad thing so I need to come up with an idea for my Group 4 Project about thermal energy in chemistry or physics. This is my first time doing the G4 project and I need major help coming up with an idea because the topic is kind of to think about. Thanks!

IB science students at my school recently got assigned the Group 4 Project, with our topic being popcorn. We have brainstormed this, and the only thing we could come up with was the effect on the enviroment where the corn is grown- but the problem with this is that not much of the corn grown is solely for popping....... so do anyone have any ideas about projects and research we could do on the topic of popcorn? Keep in mind that we have to incorporate biology and chemistry. Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks!

We just got our group 4 assignment and teams today. The topic that we were given was leaves. I've been trying to think up some ideas for an experiment to conduct around this subject. I don't know how far I should stray away from it since it's pretty broad. I've been thinking of things like using leaves/the plant's seeds as a bioassay medium, some how testing different things with the soil and relating it to how the leaves grow and etc (I don't know. This is my first year in chemistry and I was thrown into IB chem...so sorry if I seem like I don't know what I'm talking about ha). I also have to keep in mind that while we're forming this experiment/our question and such, we…

Currently I have to make the decision between Chemistry HL or Physics HL. For me, I am pretty good at both subjects, however i definitely find myself using more time to study Physics. My chemistry teacher has always had a reputation of being unorganised and not so good at teaching. However we have a really really good physics teacher. I like physics better than chemistry, however i am quite concerned about the workload. This is because I have a lot of co-curricular activities, and have heard that physics Hl has a lot more work than chemistry. I really could not make up my mind between the two. Can you please give me some suggestions?

HIE, We had been given a task for a group four project on water as a mixed group(10 students) from all science subjects. so we were planning to have something which will incoporate aspects from biology, physics and chemistry. we decided to investigate the % of impurities( mainly lead) in the water we drink at school and find out its effect on health. is this a good topic to do or we must chose something else? please feel free to add more suggestions.

Hey guys, My school's Group 4 topic is Highlands and we're heading over to Cameron Highlands in September to carry out our proposed experiments. My group chose the subtopic of honey and so far our idea is to see how different types of flowers affecting the taste/density/colour of they honey produced. Our facilitators think that our idea is very vague and requested us to see them again on Friday after finalising everything. So.. ideas? Opinions? Help?

Any ideas on what particular thing my group should focus on? We were thinking of measuring the biological oxygen demand in water and also measuring the soil properties. any other ideas?? Which should we do?

So what i'm doing is that on a sunny day, i will be recording current and voltage reading from a very small solar panel and then calculate the power it is generating. What i was thinking of doing was to scale up the results by lets say 40 times because a bigger solar panel would be consisted of 40 times the panel i have, but then what can i do with that. Our theme is how to make the campus greener and our group's theme is alternative source of energy. I have access to our school's roof and i have the dimensions of the area where i can have solar panels but i need some ideas as to what i can do with these results so that it is a proper Group 4 project and what can i write …

Hey, I'm a Biology SL student and I need to do my Groupg 4 project. I have absolutely no idea on how to do it, as our biology teacher is not very helpful. Our main topic is environment and our group's subtopic is water pollution. We have to investigate a stream that flows through the city. It is definitely polluted. It's area is <100m2 and it is a very weak stream. Could you help me to come up with a topic, as I'm not bio-savvy and have no idea how to come-up with the topic? I would EXTREMELY appreciate your help

What part(in percentages) does G4 project take in the counting your final biology SL grade(e.g. 5%)? I've heard that all of biology IA counts for 24% and is made up of 48 points. Personal Skills counts for max. 6 points and is measured by G4, thus G4 counts for 3%. Is it correct?

So, as i am the only one in my group doing everything, I wanted to do a group 4 project on oil and i wanted to do it on lava lamp, if that makes sense. So what i plan to do is to make a lava lamp from oil, food colouring and water. But the thing is, the only subject we have here is physics (for density of water) Can you please help me with biology and chemistry? I was thinking of something to do with food colouring for chemistry. Like how it's made and for biology, about water. But then my group 4 project would be about home made lava lamps and i don't think that's good.

Hiii! So... I'm doing my first year in IB. My exams are on May 2013, and I have a quuick question. Our teacher has assigned a global topic for our Group 4 project (IRON) and hasn't said anything in details. He said we should come up with an asignment ourselves... Some help? I have an idea about latent heat, but that isn't anything, special.. Please help? I forgot to say... I'm doing physics.

Okay this is something really stupid to talk about here, but yesterday was my group 4 project and i did something really awful which I regret. Well in the beginning, all my group 4 teachers thought that i was the only person in my group who cared and it was true but then yesterday my group started co operating and we were done with our work pretty early, and the teachers asked us to take pictures and i used my phone but someone kept texting me and i just told them to shut up but my teacher thought that i was texting and i got some points off long story short if i do the presentation and the report write-up well, will i be able to make up for the points i lost?

This is a bit of a rant, so just stick with me here. Our topic for group 4 projects this year is "flight." Our group, composed of myself (SL physics), one HL chem and two HL biology students, decided we would investigate the factors surrounding the fall of fruit from trees, so that we could include the bio students in what we were doing (and keep it more experimentally feasible than something involving birds). It was generally decided, though we didn't hash it out very deeply, that the bio students would take something like the reason for fruit dropping in the first place, as well as bruising; I would talk about velocity of falling fruit in relation to density, surface ar…

Hi, So the IB group 4 project for physics is coming up and i am to design and present an experiment using OIL! now i have a wide variety of oil, anything really. So anyone know an easy, Scoring, experiment that my mates and i could do? We do physics SL, and are not extremely "knowledgeable" about physics, but we do have a decent understanding of the topic. Not something too complicated. Thank you for you help, it will be much appreciated
