What are your group 4 project topics and sub-topics on which different groups are doing? Is it also possible to post any Group 4 report samples in chemistry and biology?.

Hey all, this is my first time posting. I wanted to ask about meeting the Complexity criteria in my CS IA project. Would I be compromising my display of "algorithmic thinking" if I used Java Swing's sort/filter functions or Java's built-in sort() or indexOf() methods? If so, what would be some ways to counteract this? What opportunities are there for me to implement custom sorting or searching algorithms manually and justifiably? Thank you for your time and understanding.

Hi everyone i'm editing this topic, because recently i asked for some ideas relating group 4 project from an environmentalist point of view. However, i'm no longer surprised that there was no feedback, as i have found out that there is not a single word about GROUP 4 project in the ESS Syllabus and i couldn't even find any connection whatsoever between the two when i googled it. Anyway, they made us do the group 4 project, they've put us in a group of six people. Me and my friend were 2 students of ESS in the group and the others were doing the other sciences (Physics, Biology, Chemistry). Our topic was cider, so whilst others were doing some experiment, me and my friend …

All of the Group 4 posts I've seen on here are way different than what my school did. Last year students were divided into groups of ten and had to figure out survive a zombie apocalypse (or so I heard). For my project we were split into similar groups and assigned different doomsday scenarios: after the Earth is rendered uninhabitable figure out how to get 80-100 people to survive in the ocean, deep space or on Mars. My group got Mars. It seems to me like everyone on this website is just doing science experiments.

I'm trying to decide what topic I want to do for my EE and I was wondering if Computer Science EEs are treated like the other sciences. Would I need to make an experiment for this EE? Also it would be helpful if you could tell me what you need to do for a Computer Science EE in general.

Hello everyone, For my group 4 project, I am doing a comparison of my school's heating energy source to other schools around the world. I'm interested in: Fossil fuels Hydroelectric Solar Nuclear Geothermal If your school uses one of these methods to heat the building, please tell me a little about it. Thank you!

Hello Our school started with DP program this year and it seems to be so confusing about the Group 4 project, IA and list of practicals to be done in the science subjects. I am taking two science i..e physics and biology and both HL. Is the IA part of the group 4 project or these two are entirely different things? If so, do we have to prepare an investigation report on both IA and the group 4 project. Will all the practicals be part of the IA ? Kindly, help. I am soo lost.

Hello, I am a new student to the IB programme. I took my IGCSE exams in May, and my results are as follows: Maths (Extended): A* Coordinated Science: AA Business Studies: A* History: A English First Language (Extended): C French First Language: A I am not that good in languages and I don't like studying them either. In terms of maths and science, I love maths and physics, but I hate biology, and I think that is the reason why I only got AA in Science. I started studying Business 2 years ago, and I love the course too. Right now, I am considering to go to a Business School later, and I want to get as many IB points as p…

Hi guys so I will be having the group 4 project thing tomorrow and our topic is the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Has anyone ever done anything relate to Olympics before? If so, can you please tell me what you did so I can have a more general idea of what I have to do tomorrow? Don't worry I won't copy your ideas. Thank you and let's pass IB together

Hello fellow survivors, in our school we're at the present doing the Group 4 Project and our topic is myths. Now, our group is having a hard time to find a myth to essentially debunk and which involves physics, biology and chemistry! We are in dire need of some help here, so if anyone is kind enough to give us some ideas or advice it will be greatly appreciated. To give an idea of what I am talking about, I will explain a myth that I thought we could debunk but which we were forced to ditch as it would be too complicated. So my idea was that we were going to debunk that microwaving food can destroy the nutrients (carrot's beta-carotene increases, but vitamin-c a…

So I'm doing a project studying the effect of radiation in chemical reactions. I conducted a lab using water that I put in the microwaves for different amount of times, and did the reaction, CuSo4 (aq) + Fe --> FeSo4 (aq) + Cu (s), and calculated the percent yields. Theoretically, as there is more radiation introduced to the water that I dissolve the CuSo4 in, should this yield change? There is nothing on the internet I can find that answers this question and I am in desperate need of help.

We are doing our group 4 project in 2 weeks time, and we have prepared only to explain about the topic in view of Chemistry, Biology and Physics. But I have now heard that doing an experiment is a must. Is this true? Can I only explain the mechanism, or a reaction only with words and theories and existing experiments done by others? Thanks

Hello, I am about to do my Group 4 project. My group's topic is honey and I will be doing the biology part. Unfortunately I am quite stuck in the planning part. I presented my idea to my teacher but was rejected because using e.coli is too dangerous and with us not having the skill set needed. I have read abstract and ideas of some research papers but am still stuck. At this moment I am thinking of two ideas, 1. Compare the sugar content of cheap and expensive brands of honey using fermentation. 2. Study the effect of prolonged heating on honey's ability to inhibit baker's yeast growth ( I am not so sure about this one as I heard that baker's yeast are used with honey i…

Hi, I saw really good examples on topics of chemistry and biology. Would it be possible to provide some samples of topics and subtopics of Physics and Chemistry about Group 4 project? Also, I heard that we have to write a reflection on it individually; I am really wondering for the reflections, is it simply what you personally think and learn or do we have to follow any format?

Hello everyone! So for my Group 4 Project, my team decided to base our project on Agatha Christie book 'and then there were none'. Chemistry: identification of poisons We need a few m,ore ideas for Physics and Biology. For Biology, we thought about maybe investigating how the concentration of seawater affects the decaying of a corpse. For Physics, we thought of building that metal contraption the Judge uses to kill himself in the end. However, I feel that the Physics idea might be a bit too wild. Any other ideas for Physics, chemistry and biology? I would really love any suggestions too. Thanks in advance!

Hi, I was browsing the syllabus for bio 2016, and saw "A reflective statement written by each student on their involvement in the group 4 project must be included on the coversheet for each internal assessment investigation. " So, what exactly is group 4 project? What we need to do for it? Do we need to hand any report about it to the IB? thanks for replying.

Hey guys! I'm working on my group four project and I'm a bit confused on how to determine the difference between raw data and processed data. My experiment involved testing heart rate in sprinting and in jumping jacks to determine which raised heart rate the most. Our data mainly consists of the different heart rates per activity for the different people involved. Can you tell me what the process data would be for this type of experiment?

Hello Guys.. So I am going to have my exams on May 2016.. We have not even started working on the group 4 project yet and I might have to move to another country soon and continue IB there. My school is going to start with it after I leave and wouldn't accept to change the date because of one student, and I am certain I wouldn't be able to do it in the other country because it would be too late, and there is no one to work with. My question is: Can I work on it individually? If not then what should I do? Because I need to move to another country and staying is not an option. Please help me!!

So for Global Sharing I was thinking of exchanging other IB students results from around the world! (Keeping it international) Thought this would be a great place to start, so if any one is willing to share their data on the effect of oxogen percent saturation on the number of macro invertebrates, that'd be great!

Hey! My group 4 project is coming up in a week's time and my group and I cant think of anything for the science of kitchens. I thought about doing something about how the enzyme amylase breaks down food but i cant think of anything for the chemistry/physics aspects of the Group 4 Project. We also have the option of having our project be about the science of garbage/waste so if you can think about any ideas for this it would be appreciated too!

My team and I have 2 ideas so far, making a solar charger for a phone, or a couple of small scale hydro and eolic plants. The project is tomorrow (I know, should have done it earlier) and the problem is that we think the solar charger is too simple, but the plants are too complicated, and we can't find the materials to do them. Anyone have any ideas on what we could do to make the plants simpler, or the solar charger more complicated? Here are links to the projects: http://m.instructables.com/id/Solar-Altoids-USB-Charger/?ALLSTEPS http://www.all-science-fair-projects.com/project1393_29.html

Hello! So here's the situation. I've done the group 4 project, but collaboration with my group turned out to be more difficult then I expected. A first deadline was supposed to be a presentation of the work we've done so far, but basically everyone was ready by then and everyone presented the final project. Teachers approved it. Then it turned out that the "condition" to "pass" it was to present it in front of school what my group refused to do (there wasn't really an option for me to go alone ). I just got an info, that we didn't "pass" it. What does that mean? Can you fail a G4P? What are the consequences? Anyone help please. Thanks in advance.

Our's school's broad theme is ethical and global issues with disasters, and we need to incorporate three of the four sciences that we have: biology, chemistry, physics, and computer science. The topic we chose is the ethics of infringing personal freedoms when preventing the spread of ebola (ex: mandatory quarantine). Biology and chemistry aspects are easy, explaining how ebola works and how it's similar and different to other diseases. The issue is with physics or computer science. Right now we have statistics of ebola outbreaks and other diseases, which can swing into either physics or computer science, and I can make a simulation, which would be computer science. T…

Because our school doesn't offer more courses, is it still necessary to have other disciplines other than Biology and Chemistry?

HEY GUYS! I'm currently doing my group 4 project on the issue of Climate Change and how different communities can potentially be able to be resilient to the effects/symptoms of climate change. So we have got an idea about designing a modified model of a greenhouse with an aquaponic system to grow vegetation and presenting that as an way of overcoming the problem of declining food security caused by climate change. So I am in charge of the Chemistry aspects and I have access to three different types of fertilizers: Urea, NPK and Hydrocomplex. And I am supposed to experimentally determine the percentage compositions of these chemicals so that I can mix a suitable mixtu…

My teacher has my Group 4 due next week and I'm at a loss. I work very well when I have examples in front of me to copy format, but I haven't anything. We haven't received examples or an explanation of what is wanted from us. We are supposed to study explosives (C4 for me) so it's more of a study than an experiment. And I'm not sure how to work with bio or chem with this. I just need an example of formatting and a grading rubric so I can get my feet off the ground.
