hey guys, as you know, one of the primary factor that will affect your future tremendously is your choice on college. so tell me, what college do you want to attend and why. do you prefer private or public? far away from home or vise versa? personally, i would like to attend a private college that is close to home. since i want to be a psychiatrist, the college that i would like to go offers a very good medical program but it is very expensive. what about you? thanks a lot.

Hello there, I just received my conditional offer to HKU today for the BA: 30 with 3 or 4 in most subjects, and I am a little surprised, as I thought their offers usually ranged in high 30's or low 40's. I heard the competition in Hong Kong, as well as any asian country, is quite ferocious, and I do not find a 30 to be "ferociously" competitive, as this is below the world average for the global grade (which is 33 if I am not mistaken)... I am Canadian, 42 predicted. Thanks!

Okay, so! Applications for early acceptance is coming out soon for US schools and Canadian schools and I am stuck with a huge problem. How important is math for an undergraduate program in Biology? I took math studies thinking that i'm going to become a pharmacist and that math SL is not really required. However this semester i found out that i am 15% (75% in chem, 90% in bio) better in Biology and it's HL and now want to pursuit a career in Med. am i screwed? all the universities i looked into in Canada that I want like U of T want Math SL or HL. I am good in math and it is too late to switch back to SL, so i am stuck in studies The only reason i switched to studies is …

I plan to major in Meteorology when I go to college. It's always been a lifelong dream for me to be a meteorologist. If that plan fails, I'm going to major in Accounting, then Law School lol. Edit: Sorry about the typo in the title.

Hey guys. I was looking through the entry requirements for King's College Pharmacology program, and it states that for the IB, I need "36 points including HL5 Chemistry and Biology". Just wondering, what do they mean by HL5? The link to their course is here: http://www.kcl.ac.uk/prospectus/undergraduate/entryrequirements/name/pharmacology/alpha/ABC/header_search/ . Thanks!

I don't understand what transcripts are. So I can't just send them my IB predicted grades, exam marks and final reports? I need my high school marks? But I only have my IB scores. The years before IB...those report cards, I don't even know where I put them. I thought only IB mattered. So what are these and how do I send it to them? Thanks

Hello! My only dream profession till now was to become a lawyer. I still want to pursue this way and someday work abroad in said field. The thing is, I thought doing the IB couldn't be that much of a harm, but now that I'm getting into the stuff (started half a year ago and I'm aware that it's just getting worse) I'm not even sure if it's going to pay out for me in the end, considering I want to pursue a law-based career BUT study here in Germany. The thing is, people decide to do the IB because they want to study abroad. I don't. I want to study here due to financial reasons. Of course if I would have the chance of studying abroad I would, but even then there is the TOEF…

Since I was a kid, I always wanted to be a lawyer. But when I became year 11, I started to get confused. I didn't know whether I would keep pursuing law in the future or even like working in law field... To be honest, I don't think my subjects are even related to law professions. ( I am taking English B HL, Korean HL, Physics HL, Chemistry SL, History SL, Mathematics SL, and ToK) Also, I do not know which major I should take before doing law school later.... Anyone out there who is thinking of pursuing law..?

Hello science people!! I am in a great dilemma and I was wondering if I could get some advice on: 1) Either taking Physics HL or Biology HL 2) Math SL with getting into med school. I'm already 1/4 through my IB diploma, and I'm currently taking Physics HL, but after this Christmas break I'm thinking of switching to Bio Higher since Physics Higher wants Math Higher. AND MATH HIGHER IS SUICIDE So yeppers, would Math Standard be okay for medicine? Because I'm pretty sure 80% of Physics Higher is Math, and I'm really reluctant into going into Math Higher... any advice?

So, I am from Hong Kong and I have 2 places to choose from for my university. 1) Hong Kong - HKU 2) Japan - Tokyo U / Tokyo U of Foreign Studies I'm fluent in Chinese (Mandarin/Cantonese), English and knows very basic Japanese. However, in order to apply into Japanese Universities such as Tokyo U (I don't want to enroll into an English taught course) I would need to get a pretty good score in the EJU exam (language proficiency exam for university education), but that's probably impossible because I've never had proper Japanese education and I just self-study it. I can read and listen alright but have no idea how to use proper grammar and stuff to write a proper essay. Any…

Got a question about needing Math HL to study Economics. I'm in IB1 at the moment and I'm contemplating studying Economics at university. I take Math SL and am fairly confident that I could score 6/7. Will simply not taking HL put me at a disadvantage though? I'm asking 'cause when choosing my courses last year, everybody I spoke to encouraged me to take Math SL if I could score very well there, as opposed to a 4 or 5 at Higher Level. However, now that I'm doing some research, I'm confused as to whether top UK universities only accept applicants who took Math HL or whether it's just helpful. Does anybody know whether top UK universities (Oxbridge, LSE, UCL...) require Mat…

Today at school we had our very first Extended Essay seminar and a piece of information that came up towards the end of the seminar was that 'if you want to go into medical school you need to write an Extended Essay related to what you want to do, most likely being Biology.' For a while now I've wanted to do it in Chemistry Looking at how Nitrogen can be absorbed by muscle tissue and the blood under pressure and how that leads to decompression sickness. Meanwhile this idea was contested with a possibility to go on a 4 week Scientific project where I applied to carry out some research to something related to stem cells or DNA. The school told us that this project called th…

So, I'm currently in my last IB year, doing the exams in May 2011. It's pure HELL atm, but whatever after rain comes sunshine. And im thinking of applying to universities in the UK, perhaps London. There is no way i will score over 32 points, i don't have the balls nor patience to do study that hard. You could say I've favored my teenage years over studying, which i don't regret. I like to write, and therefore i was thinking about applying to some English-type Universities, but the only job opportunities i can see after graduating with a major in English is ..Teacher or Author. You seem to be a bunch of high-achieving IB people, i suppose this is your area of expertise. I…

Hello I first want to introduce myself since this is my first post on this forum. I am a IB student in Italy and next year I going to be a senior and i am going to take all of my IB exams (ouch), I have HL- English A1, Italian B, History and SL- Biology, Math SL, and Spanish. Ok now that that's done I just want to share my thoughts about the competition to enter the world's best universities. Well first we need to see the admission policy of these schools and here is where the problems begin. Lets say you are a average white American in a IB school and you want to get into Harvard. This is what happens: (Just for the sake of simplicity lets say they Harvard only gets 100 …

Now, I wanted to make this thread to attract a very interesting prospect that possibly very few international students have ever envisaged. Note this is not a direct undergraduate program but you may apply to it after your first year of university abroad. Ecole Normale Superieur of Paris is the best university in France and in the top 20 of the World beating University College London, John Hopkins, McGill and many more. If you are interested in taking a pure scientific subject at university or a pure humanity subject at university and want to improve your french whilst having to be 0 fees and get PAYED 1000€ a month ENS in the centre of Paris might be the place to be. Hi, I'm interested in studying Economics at a Swedish university and I was wondering if there are any Economics programmes taught in English. I might be able to study in Swedish as well since, like all Finns, I studied Swedish for 4 years before the IB and I think my skills are quite good. I know it is very rare in Sweden to have whole undergraduate programmes in English but it would obviously be much easier since I've already been through the IB. Furthermore, the problem with Swedish is that I have no formal qualifications as a proof of my Swedish skills. (Do they arrange some sort of Swedish exams, then?) I could of course attend a pre-university Swedish course if it is…

I can't decide where to go to university. I like South America, specifically Chile but IB is not fully compatible there so I don't know if this can affect me. I'm not a straight 7 person so I know I can’t make it into Harvard or Cambridge so if I decide to go to the US or Europe I would have to apply to a less prestigious university. I have a European nationality (Italy) as well as the Chilean. Do any of you know which University would be right for me in (English speaking) Europe? Or in Canada or US? Easy to get into with IB diploma?

Would you ever consider enrolling in an Online or For Profit College? I'm not sure about the popularity of these outside of the U.S. but they are slightly prevalent here. Also, by "For Profit" College, I mean one of those colleges that are owned by companies, and usually those that advertise on T.V. For me, this would be a last resort for my higher education. I'm not saying anything is wrong with these types of schools, but I don't think I could learn primarily by the computer, without direct Professor interaction. I know that these schools provide education to those who could not normally be able to attend a full-time university, and they are wonderful in that aspect.…

I just got my IB results online a few days ago, and unfortunately they are worse than expected. Having just passed the diploma with 26 points;;;I failed two subjects; Physics and Geography. I was planning to go to Hong Kong next year to study finance at HKUST (Hong Kong University of Science and Technology). However, I didn't apply to any University yet as I am doing a gap year. 1st Question: How do I apply? So I have a dilemma. I received my IB results, and they were awful. Most were 2 points below my prediction, and one even 3. I was and am so disappointed in them. Fortunately, I didn't have any offers to meet. But that is part of the dilemma, as I have an unconditional offer to an American university, which is highly ranked [Depending on the program it's ranked from 1st to top 50]. Yet, my want to go to this university is tarnished by mainly my IB results and possibly wanting to retake them in order to improve my scores as I did spend 2 years of my life in this program. This is also important because I am having fears that I (I'm European) will not like college in the Unit…

Hi there. I just need some tips on universities primarily in the UK that offers broad religious studies programmes. See, the parts of religion I am most interested in are often not available. I prefer studying esoterism and historical paganism over the Abrahamic faiths and Buddhism. However, the broader the better. What universities offer this? The one I've found that looks the best is Bath Spa. Thanks in advance, hopefully my search is not in vain. I'm going to act a bit silly and bump my own and very old thread. My questions still apply and any help would be greatly appreciated. ^^
