Some of the questions I've asked myself: How do you know if he/she is the one? Am i just infatuated with the idea of he/she? Just post your opinions about it!

Hello everyone So, this part of the forum kind of died out, therefore I decided to make a topic about the thing that has been bothering me for the past few months. We all go to school, or went at one point in our lives. We were graded on our tests, and those tests gave us an idea on our knowledge about the subject… But can they really tell us whether we are/were intelligent? Nowadays the pressure on recieving good grades is so high every 5th high-school student confessed that (s)he has experienced school-related anxiety. I know people who get really good results and I know people who barely pass. Both of those groups act in a similar way, and their non-academic skil…

Talking about Abortion: Pro-Life or Pro-Choice The conversation surrounding abortion has always been controversial. Even in the 21st century, the thought of discussing abortions in some communities has been tabooed. Unfortunately, this so called 'taboo' has been the reality of some women - whether it be the result of unprotected sex, sexual assault or fear of keeping the child, millions of women have had to choose between life or choice. Some factors that may affect the final decision include, but are not limited to, gender, religion and society. Dialogue of abortion and the pro-life and pro-choice stances have normally taken place between 'adults'. However, I think…

In our English class, we analyzed and advertisement that strongly criticized society for educating boys in a wrong way, creating toxic masculinity. I personally believe that it is completely real and it can cause serious social problems. There was a huge debate in our class because of that. What do you think?

So I was reading this (http://www.vanityfair.com/politics/features/2006/01/hitchens200601) about Joseph Kony, and the article said that Kony may have multiple personality disorder. And it got me thinking... if a mentally ill person commits a crime, say murder or any crime for that matter, can they be held responsible for it? Is the insanity plea really legitimate? Why or why not? Disclaimer! I am not saying what Kony is doing is "right," merely using him as an extreme case.

i find that in my school IB students tend to clump together in "packs." I think that in general, because we share so many classes together IB students tend to hang out with exclusively IB students with some mingling between regular students. In my school people seem to really take pride in the fact that they are part of the IB program and i sometimes feel as if it's very exclusive. Does anyone feel the same? Or is it different?

Hey guys M&m_Fan99 (Thaddeus Peuterschmidt) back with another IB Survival forum post! So, today's QOTD (question of the day) is: "Is my school's uniform policy sexist?", if you couldn't tell from the title of this forum post. In the uniform policy, it is stated that girls are not allowed to have their skirts more than 10cm above their knees, but there are no rules about how high boys can wear their shorts. Many are outraged at this and is calling this inequality. So IB Survival forum viewers, what do you think? Do you think my school is being sexist? :ivan:

The title says it all. What's your opinion on abortion? We've been discussing that topic on our TOK class for about two months and we can't seem to finish this debate. The thing is, that every time we start this topic, we end up in the wrong field - religion. I know there are religious aspects of this, but I really am interested in your opinion on this topic? I want to finish this debate with someone since none of my colleauges are willing to do so out of the class. Not to get in too many details to soon, just to say that I think that abortion is, well, doable. I'm definitely not against it. My main point is that, when it comes to such an, well, unwanted consequence - …

Hi guys, it's me again. I have a topic which I hope is going to make some of you interested. So, lately I've been thinking about human existence. As far as we know, there is not a single reason or purpose for us humans to exist. We don't have to do anything, we have free will (more or less), and we do what we want. But why? I mean, why us? Out of all species, it had to be us. We are the most intelligent specimen we know of, and we are self aware. Is it a good thing? We are able to do literally anything we want, yet we are stuck because of technology and laws and whatnot. What's the point in living? The more I think about it the less life seems appealing to me. Family, f…

OK, so my TOK teacher seems to think that murder is bad. In any case. I was a bit confused about her thoughts on her take on murder. Apparently, she thinks "murder is bad" is an eternal justified truth. There are many justifications for murder, of course. The thing I do not understand is that, if murder is justified, doesn't that make it acceptable, (meaning NOT BAD) and in some cases even good? My TOK teacher thinks it is always bad, even if you justify it. I think otherwise. We talked about scenarios going from self-defense to varieties of religions. So, is murder always bad? I'd like to hear some opinions! Please and thanks

Hi guys so I'm sorry if there has already been a post similar to this but I really want to know others opinion on this because this is a topic that REALLY bothers me. So I'm pretty sure you have all heard about the recent shooting in a gay club in Orlando, and it was supposedly carried out by a Muslim man. As coming from a Muslim background myself, I have been grown to practically "hate" all gays/lesbians - it is not doubt that in most religions homosexuality is outwardly forbidden. My sibling, who is a transgender, already faces so much hardship and it is difficult for me to understand why there must be so much hatred? I am in no way trying to bash religion as …

I'm currently studying 9th grade in Spain at the british program and I want to do IB at the end of highschool. I am planning on taking: English lang&lit HL German B SL Global politics HL Psychology SL Application and interpretation SL Now the issue comes to the science I pick. I'm not a very sciency person but I'm really interested in psychology and I do see it as an option for uni. I've read a little bit about it and people say that it is quite important to take biology for psychology. Biology is not one of my strengths and I'm not keen on it at all. A couple of weeks ago, I was planning on taking Sports, exercise & health science be…

Hi, I am very confused about the IAs. My teachers haven't explained it because I presume they assume that everyone knows about them. Do I have to do an IA for all my subjects? What is the importance of the IA? How much is it weighed? When is it usually due? How much time is contributed to it? Please help me. I am freaking out and I am so lost. Thank you to whoever replies.

Hi everyone, I am researching for my history EE, and I am having troubles with finding the evidence for an event. The event consists in a conversation between the king and Mussolini, which is mentioned in multiple books but without any reference to a primary source, but always to other secondary sources (other historians' books ) or no reference at all. My supervisor was bemoaning this, however it seems fair that there is no "transcript" of a private conversation. Is it common\acceptable? How can I back this event better? Thank you in advance

Initially my subject choices were Psychology, Biology, and English Literature HL with Theatre Studies, Maths AI as SL and French Ab Initio. I was debating between Theatre Studies and Philosophy; I took IGCSE Drama so Theatre Studies SL didn't seem too hard. I loved drama classes in Year 10 but when it became Year 11, I started to miss the spark. I still thoroughly enjoyed putting on student-led musicals with my friends (we did Dear Evan Hansen this year), but the lessons were a little bit tedious. Also, my drama teacher (who is great most of the times) is quite mood-oriented — if he's happy then our lessons will be amazing, but if he's in a bad mood, he can be reall…

Hi Im currently starting to write proposals for my extended essay and one of my ideas is to do a world studies essay in the subjects psychology and world religion. My essay would look into Understanding religion from a psychological perspective through looking at archetypes and other religious symbols. I guess this would be focusing on the global theme culture, language, and identity. But would this be an appropriate world studies essay or am I supposed to be looking at an issue and then connecting it to potential IB subjects. Also, is it too broad?? Thanks

The first thing i would like to know is that, in your IB programs do your teachers communicate with each other so that they don't plan tests or assignments on the same day so they don't overwhelm the students? I'm going through a difficult time since my IB coordinator has told my class of 2020 that if we joined IB that it would be tough and challenging but the teachers talk to each other and plan their schedules so they don't overwhelm us. Some of the teachers talk to each other but rarely .... I spoke out about this since at this point in the school year their is so much stuff like assignments, projects, AP tests, finals due all in so little time and its just not me who…

I have to choose my subjects this week and am wondering if HL bio is worth it for me. I wouldn't consider myself a very science-y person, although i am very interested in plants, evolution, dna, neurobiology and that kind of stuff. I am not at all interested in the human body, (find it unpleasant, really) and just the thought of dissecting something makes me queasy. I don't have any big problems with memorising content, i am more scared of writing lab reports. Will this be a big problem? Also is it very hard to use microsoft excel in bio for graphs and such? Would very much appreciate any guidance and advice on the matter, thank u

As a tarot game enthusiast and a tarot skeptic, I'm not so fond of the majority people seeing the tarot cards as tools for divination. That was when I decided to write about the history of tarot cards and who to blame for the image of tarot cards nowadays as the academic writing class project, and this question arose: "Does the gamers' tarot owe to the occult tarot for surviving and being notable to card game enthusiasts nowadays?" Yes. Tarot cards were used for games at first. Even a simple internet research shows that. (Anyone up for objections, go ahead and make my day.) Of course the usual debate rules apply: No insults, no fighting, and always give evi…

There's definitely been a time when we all wanted what someone else took for granted/could easily get for themselves. And then we get mad for not having it ourselves. After which we might think of even more underprivileged people than us who couldn't have what we do. Let it be materialistic, happiness, ability, or something else. But is it wrong to console ourselves by thinking of people who have even less? Isn't it after all just a variant of a sadistic nature? Making ourselves feel happy because others are incapable? To extend this to the extreme, is sadism a part of human nature? What do you guys think?

Reading The Handmaid's Tale and especially The Road, I must admit, I was overpowered by the despair and hopelessness depicted in them. It kind of got to me as well. So, is literature, and its power, a harm to society if it will inflict/drive you to take detrimental actions (like, depression or suicide for example?) What do you think?

Hi guys, I have heard this argument being brought out on several occasions about atheism, at least in my country of origin which is Indonesia. In Indonesia, religion is part of the law because the nation is supposed to "believe in one supreme God", as mentioned in the constitution of that country. Due to that, there has been violence and attacks, to the extent that it started to become physical, on religious minorities and atheists. However, I have decided to focus this on a very specific slice of this whole debate. I think the first time I had heard this argument come about when I was around 10 years old. At that point in my life, I was a relatively religious p…

Just a thought I had one day... The universe is incomprehensibly vast. The earth takes up 0.0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000003%, or 3x10-60 % of the volume of the universe, and because of the expansion of space, most of the observable universe is physically impossible to reach. If the universe was created by a deity, there are a few possibilities: The universe is basically a sandbox or a simulator: life is an unintended emergent feature, and there is no real intended purpose for us. This is basically Deism, almost at agnosticism. As most religions seem to claim, modern humans are special enough to be saved by a manifestation …

Hey mates, I am now studying and revising for my mock exams. Yeah its time for the May 2017 exams, unfortunately. So what do you think are the best subjects, not only from the ones I am taking (see below on my signature) but also other subjects to help out for other people, what do you think are the subjects that are more prone for you to attain a 7 with a hard and constant study? And high grades (5 or 6)? You can comment on your situation and how you are feeling with it, or the main "criteria" to get elevated marks.
