Do US schools consider EE grade as an important aspect of admission process or do they consider it as something minimal as CAS and TOK? Honestly, I chose a wrong topic and am on the verge of getting D on the expected score. Since the EE expected score will be on my transcript, I am very worried about this. Would getting a score of D be fine with getting into schools like Carnegie Mellon, Purdue, and UCs or do they expect much higher grades from the applicants? Thanks!

Hey Guys I have recently started my IB diploma Since the last two months I have been looking at some of my possible choices for university. As mentioned above I would like to study either Economics, Management or Accounting & Finance. I am obviously aware that those courses are not really related that closely however I am not able to specify my choice exactly at this point. Now to my question ! Which university would be the best to take any of those courses listed above in your opinion ? Please consider academic quality, reputation and network possibilities ! I have of course done research myself but I cant really interpret all of the business school rank…

SAT- Writing- 670 Math- 640 Reading- 570 I don't know what my predicted grades are, but my Year 11 final result was 32 points (excluding the bonus points) What are my chances of getting into RIT's photo program? They don't require a portfolio. Will applying ED increase my chances? (I'm pretty sure I want to go there)

Hello fellow IB students. I'm actually pretty new to the IB program although I was not forced to choose it, I had to choose it without any thinking ahead, as I new so little about it. Despite all that, here I am, in the 2nd year of IB, doing my CAS and etc... This message is more related to students who finished IB, or know a lot about universities and such. As I wanted to say - I am going to IB school in Kolding, Denmark, but I'm not originally from Denmark, so the language outside the school and etc kinda bothers me. Yeah, I'm learning it slowly and all, but I'm really dreaming about leaving the country after IB. I can definitely state that I love English as a la…

Hello fellow IB-ers, This August I started the IB DP programme with the following courses: English Lang & Lit SL German B HL Geography HL Biology HL Mathematics SL Business & Management SL I am planning on achieving 36+ points by the end. My question to you guys is, would these courses be appropriate to study for example BBA (Bachelor of Business Administration) or anything other business related at an European University (excluding the UK). P.S Are there perhaps some European Business Schools in Europe that you have experience with and can recommend? Thanks in advance.

Who is an 'international student'?
by Guest Sonia- 2 replies

So I'm starting to get a bit confused. There are universities that if you are an international student, you need to prove your English proficiency by doing TOEFLs or similar tests. But, if you are studying in an English/American International school, and you do English as your first language, are you still considered an 'international student'? I have also done IGCSEs when studying in a British school. Aren't you studying English as your first language, so technically aren't you proficient?

I have wanted to study medicine in the US for a really long time, but I recently found out that gaining admission is borderline impossible for international students.. Questions: 1. Is it easier to gain admission in other countries (specifically Aus, UK, Can, Ger)? Or is it pretty much the same in every country when it comes to university admittance for international students? 2. Is it nearly impossible to gain admission to other programs in the US, or is it exclusively medicine? (like engineering) 3. I believe (not sure) gaining admission to a university in the UK is easier for people within the EU, (they are admitted with the same criteria as domestic applica…

Hello IBers! I'm in my last year of IB now, and I am getting really frustrated because I have no idea what I want to study after. The thing is that most of the majors I want to study require physics, i.e. pharmacy (at least in Norway), industrial management, odontology... If I choose to go for one of those mentioned, I will need to study physics after IB, meaning I will take a gap year. However, I've heard that universities in the US for instance do not like students who have had gap year (unless it is for a good reason). I guess what I was wondering about is does it really matter if I take a gap year only to study physics according to the Norwegian syllabus? If I ge…

Hello Good People!!! How did you guys write your personal statements? I know that US can be a informal write-up that talks about unique life experiences or certain event (e.g. some accident, competition, difficulty you had to go through) and UK has to be very formal write up that talks about your qualities, achievements, why you are interested in certain jobs and so on. For my case, I am applying to a university in Switzerland. If I am submitting a personal statement, must it be formal (like UK) or informal (like US)? I would also be applying to universities Hong Kong, Singapore and US. I don't mind doing several write-ups if that is necessary. Just …

Hi guys, this is my first post on IB survival and before I explain my problem I would like to thank everyone for their contribution to this is page. It was extremely helpful for me during my two years of IB. I am writing to ask for advice about what should I do because my situation is kinda strange. I finished IB this year and I scored the maximum 45 points. I always wanted to study economics so I applied this year to study this subject in five universities, Oxford, Kent, LSE, Warwick and Edinburgh; however LSE and Oxford rejected me because my predicted grades were lower than their usual offer. I didn't expect that my IB exams will go so well, and so before I got my re…

Hey, everyone! I have done some research about medicine studies in Germany and I feel really confused, because I read that German‘s University don‘t appreciate us so well as I accepted. Now I’m going to take the last year of my IBDP. My 11th grade marks: Biology HL (6) Chemistry HL (6) English B HL (5) Lithuanian language SL (5) Math SL (6) Geography SL (5) I have never learned German language, but I’m going to start study it from today and going to take German language courses in Germany after my IB exams. Can anyone tell, do I have chance to entry medicine studies in Germany? I heard that I can pass one year learning their language in the medicine…

So I want to study either medicine or engineering in university, but the problem is I can't decide. When I start IB I have to choose my classes, so if I choose Medicine, I would take Chem and Bio HL, If I want to study in England at least, and I don't want to study in the US because the med programs there are post-graduate. (I could possibly study in Australia though, but I'm not sure about what the pre requisites and entry requirements are.) If I later during the IB course decided that I wanted to become an engineer instead.(Or vice versa) I would be screwed?? (Things can change in two years you know) Because I wouldn't have the right pre requisites, and most universitie…

Best psychology program in UK

Hi! I've been thinking a bit about university and where I want to go after the IB (I know it might be early to think about it, but I don't want to get a shock next year!) I almost know that I want to study psychology (haven't start reading the subject yet, but I find it interesting!) and I would really like to study in the UK. I have looked at some psychology programs in London (and nearby) but I don't really know which one that's best. Anyone have a clue?? I mainly think about how the students feel about the program/school, but also what others (maybe newspapers (articles), statistical things etc) think about it

Hi, I have completed the IB and recieved an IB diploma this year (2014). I was planning to go to an university in Japan, however all my application didnt get accepted due to my low predicted score. Still, I got accepted to an University in the States with worth 1 year credit. Then I have recieved the official IB score from the website, and noticed that i got 2 more points than my predicted grade. This has made me think maybe I could have been accepted to a better University. Considering the fact that the university that I got accepted is not my first choice and I have recieved a higher score than to my predicted score; Would it be better to take a gap year and apply for t…

I'm in my second year of IB and I've decided not to apply to college this year, for the following reasons- 1) I'm a bit younger than the rest of my batch and so I probably won't be able to manage living on my own for another year or so. 2) I've made the decision to apply to art school, but I didn't take art as a subject and I've made this decision only recently. So I have no portfolio and I can't make a good enough one by September. So after the exams next year, I'll work intensively on my portfolio (I'm planning to apply to all the top schools like RISD and MICA) until applications open (around November/December for art schools?) and then hopefully get an internship or…

I have done some research on several German Universities, I found out some universities in Germany do not have a BA program, instead you do around 4-5 years of study and get a MA degree instead. I would like to know, is it a good choice to skip a BA degree and study for a MA degree straight away after IB? I heard the curriculum is quite intense.

Eligibility for Lloyds Scholars programme
by Guest Ogle- 1 reply

Hello! After fulfilling all the requirements for uni, I found that there is a scholarship program available - Lloyds Scholars 2014. Unfortunately the criteria state, that I have to be either a UK resident or EU student currently residing in the UK. The problem is that the deadline is tomorrow, so I will obviously not be residing in UK because I'm a Latvian still in Latvia and coming to UK in September. At this point it seems, that this is quite a weird criteria - why does it matter that I'm not residing in UK right now if i'll be there anyway when studies at uni start? Has anyone been involved in this program? Do I understand the criteria 'Be UK residents or EU st…

Um... as my IB1 comes to an end, it's time for me to decide my future study path. Hello guys, I am finishing IB1 with not very good grades so it is very unlikely to have ~40 predicted points by November of next year which implies that it will be very hard (practically impossible) to get in top-universities in US as they take in consideration only predicted grades. As the summer is approaching, I am planning to study hard so I can, hopefully, pass better in IB2. I am confident that in the final exams of next year I will achieve good grades, however that is not the case with the predicted grades which I will be getting in November because there is very short time to show my effort & improvement. So, my question is: Let's say I get a predicted ~36 …

I'm in DP year one taking Math HL. After the school end of term exams, I completely f*cked up my math and I'm probably getting a Level 3. I got a level 5 in the first term. I'm interested in studying Chemistry in the future. My score is about 32-33, does this largely affect my chances of getting into decent universities? eg. UC Davis, Penn State, U dub? My SAT is 1800 ish.

I've been considering going to university in Switzerland, but my main problem is the living cost. From what I understand, the Erasmus scholarship covers that, but I'm confused with their website (not only that, but they're changing the scholarship). As I live in the US, would I be eligible to apply for that scholarship? Also, if anyone knows, when should I apply and what are my chances of getting the scholarship? And if the chances are low, are there other scholarships besides Erasmus that could help me with that problem?

Hello, I am finishing my IB as we speak and I have come to realize, that what I thought I had figured out is not so obvious anymore. I have applied to a number of Architecture courses in British universities in January (UCAS deadline). Hey I was just wondering as to what level of ib math (HL or SL) is required to pursue a degree in computer engineering. At the beginning of the year, I opted for math HL. However, since then, I have been struggling with the subject. My teachers recently suggested that I take Math SL instead of HL. I am a little skeptical as to weather I should do so, since I believe to pursue any engineering degree in most colleges requires one to be proficient in mathematics IE take a higher level of math. Requesting for the guidance of all members of the forum. Thanks
