I am currently writing the second draft of my History IA and it's mostly focused on the US' influence on the United Nations during the 1994 Rwanda Genocide. Do you think it is okay to write UN and US in Sections BCDE, as opposed to United States and United Nations? As you may realize I am struggling staying within the word limit.

I have to decide whether I will take HL or SL history very soon. I am aware that while the HL exam includes paper 3, SL's doesn't, but other than that, I really don't know what the difference between them are. How much more extra things have to be memorised in HL? From your personal experiences, is HL a lot more difficult than SL? Thank you for helping!

Hi, I've just gotten my recent mid-year exams back, and I got 6/20, 6/20 for both the essays. I felt that it wasn't marked in a way I was taught. Basically my teacher gives us the narration of the wars (WW1/WW2/Spanish Civil War) based on long term, short term, immediate causes of the way the war broke out and then the nature and effects of the war. He keeps emphasizing on "THEMES" to write during the exam. So I wrote themes like German aggression... Economic causes...etc, and giving narration and example evidences based on the points I gave. But I got a six. And the comments were, "Where are the themes?" "Please arrange your ideas based on themes and do not just narrat…

So my history essay for WW2 is to 'Evaluate the reasons behind Japan's entry into WW2. Assess their validity.' The points I plan on focusing on are Japan's belief in racial superiority and nationalism and economic pressure (particularly oil embargos by America). If anyone can suggest and topics to focus on it would be very helpful, largely because I'm having trouble with resources. If anyone had covered this topic before some tips or guidance would be very appreciated. Thanks.

Hey! I have to write my HI and I chose to write it on Mao Zedong´s rise to power. Problem is, im kinda stuck on what title to pick and topic to write about but i thought of touching on propaganda and the suppression of the counterrevolutionaries. I have some titles but im not so sure which is why I need someone else´s opinion on this. Here goes: "To what extent did Mao´s suppression of the counterrevolutionaries justify his rise to power?" "What was the significance to Mao´s suppression of the counterrevolutionaries during his rise to power?" If you have anything better, please don´t be shy to share it

Ok. Ive been working all summer and finally decided to start my summer assignments and realize that two of them are HL IAs. Not a big deal other than school starts in a couple of weeks and I haven't started either of them, my EE, or my CAS project. I am totally screwed and need some help. Plus the teacher's instructions are complete crap and make no sense. After reading some other posts I am in between on what to do. So what do these instructions mean and is this even a complete IA. Thanks for any help. 8@

My school offers this as a SL one year course, part of Group 3. I'll be starting my second year and I'm contemplating dropping Economics in favour for Art History due to an early predicted grade of 3. Has anyone done this course, or know someone who's done it? I haven't found anything on the internet about it.

I'm having trouble deciding on a topic for my investigation. "To what extent were Camillo di Cavour's efforts in the unification of Italy successful?" This is one of the topics I've been considering. Do you believe this is a viable question or should I refine it? Or maybe someone has a better suggestion regarding a completely different topic? I'm not in my last year of high school--I only need to establish a question, write my plan of the investigation and summary of evidence for tomorrow. My teacher is marking this as part of our history exam for this semester. I have the option to scrap this topic at any point in the future to pursue a different topic but it would be n…

Recently, for History, we had to write an essay evaluating the role of Churchill, Stalin and Truman in causing the "Cold War". There was no min. or max. word count or even an indication of any sort. Some wrote (and some havent done theirs yet, several days after due grr) 1500 words, and some wrote around 3500. One guy wrote 4800. In order to evaluate these leaders role in causing the conflict, taking note of the effect of their personalities, how many words should I write so as to include all relevant details but exclude any "flannel". I wrote 3900, or thereabouts and feel that whilst some was "flannel", most was relevant and on topic. Others who have written a similar es…

Do you guys do a weekly current events thing every week in History, or is it just my class ? I really enjoy Current Events day though, it's great having a huge debate in class and then just laughing at lunch together, i love hearing different point of views, as well. Our biggest debates have revolved around the usual controversial topics like abortion, immigration, the war in iraq, racism, religion, global warming, as well as other topics. and the fun part is that we have some very strong liberals in my class and they totally class with the conservatives.

Hello everyone. Next year I will be doing IB 1, world history. Now I originally thought I'd be doing something different in IB 1 world history, but it turns out that we are going to focus on the last 100 years of European history- basically 20th century European history. If anyone has taken this or has knowledge of this area of study, could you tell me what to expect? I mean, of course WWI and WWII will be a big part, but maybe some overall themes they try and teach you? Or maybe stuff about the cold war?

Hello Everyone, First of all, thanks for this forums... they have helped a lot in these past two years of IB. I have finally gotten to the last step, in less than a month I will be sitting my IB exams and thus my revision is getting intense. At the moment, with History, I am feeling lost on how to revise effectively. I bought the Oxford Study Courses guides for Paper 1 and for Paper 2 (the one about single party states). And I have been reading through them highlighting important stuff (whoa its a lot). My problem so far is that I find it almost impossible to remember all the evidence that I would need to write a 5/6 essay. I have no problems structuring the essays, my pr…

The question that this Historical Investigation will be examining is “How did Mao use his cult of personality to maintain his position in power?” as it would be appropriate to investigate a topic that was studied the year previously-but assess it with much greater detail. The aim of this essay is to examine what Mao used his cult of personality to maintain his role in power from 1966-1976. The question that this Historical Investigation will be examining is “How did Mao use his cult of personality to launch the Cultural Revolution?” the significance of this topic is that it’s an important aspect of history for China, and even today the shadow of Mao still hangs over Ch…

Hello Everyone, I've been struggling with this bigtime! When we were first assigned the IA-I had originally chosen to focus on Kim-Il Sung and his Cult of personality and his effect on the people in the DPRK. But then my History teacher basically sidetracked us with another unit and once we came back to this-she told us to 'start over' and choose someone different (optionally) Deciding that trying to find out more about my first topic was more difficult than I thought and because I was 'struggling' with trying to write a proper plan and finding good resources, blah blah blah. I then decided to choose Pol Pot-but then I was told that "No, when the Khmer Rouge was …

OK, last minute cramming for the exam tomorrow. One thing I've been wondering is how important/ how relevant the 1943 Cairo Conference was (where the US, UK and China agreed that Korea would be made independent and unified after Japan's defeat). Because I have one textbook basically saying Stalin must have been the biggest factor in causing the Korean war, as he declared war on Japan just before Japan surrendered, in order to gain influence in Korea. So the implication is he screwed over all the brilliant plans for peace made in that conference. BUT, then I read other sources about the causes of the Korean war, and they don't even mention it! On wikipedia, there's no real…

Why did the Tokugawa Bakufu abandon its traditional exclusion policy between 1853-1858 3. Assess Dutch Learning and its political significance 4. What caused the Sino Soviet split and why has it proved so difficult to heal? 5. What is your assessment of the political philosophy of Sun Yat Sen MAY 1996 1. Hi, my research question for my internal assessment is this: "To what extent does John Scopes, in hs reflections on his own trial, accurately interpret the impact and importance of the Scopes “Monkey” Trial?" So, basically, I am going to compare Scopes's view on the importance of his trial (a primary source) with a historian's interpretation of the impact of the trial (secondary source). My question is: is this even a good idea? I mean, Scope's reflection contains a lot of analysis and thus feel more like a secondary source than a primary one. But the problem is that, as a secondary source, his reflections are worthless because he's not a historian! Frankly, I think that …

So, our teacher didn't really say what time period the first history paper covers. I don't get what we're expected to put there...do we just analyze using OPVL, the same as in a Paper 1?
