Hey everyone, That time has come. The time every student fears... *dun dun DUN* UNI APPLICATIONS. I'm applying to a university in America by way of the Common Application and one of the essay questions asks about people who have influenced you. So far I haven't been able to come up with anyone without sounding like a total cliché. People I have right now: JK Rowling, Lise Meitner or my friend with Aspergers Syndrome. I was wondering, for inspirational purposes only of course: who are some of the people who have influenced you? Thanks!

Hi everyone I am a full IB diploma student and have a few questions about how colleges look at my senior year classes. I just started my senior year and have already completed all the a-g requirements and credits needed for high school. (If I wanted I could graduate already, but I want the IB diploma so still need to go through my senior year). Senior year I am taking all the IB classes that I need for my HL's and I have two free classes. I have a Teacher Assistant one period and I decided to take spanish 5 IB and get an extra certificate. But its been a month now and I think that spanish 5 is too hard especially since I am not native. I don't know what else to take. I d…

I've been looking around at universities in UK and i was disappointed by the fact that i chose Math SL in order to get good grades. My cousin had given me a thought about becoming an actuary and i've seen people giving positive comments about it and some of them are really encouraging about the future of an actuary. Problem with me is that the universities i've searched, are demanding at least 33 points with math HL which i don't have. So would it be possible for me to do bachelors in economics and then masters in actuarial science? or i just cannot do it since i've chosen Math SL?

Hello! I am enrolled in the Pamoja Education Spanish AB initio online course and it starts in just few days. Suddenly I am very scared as I've never had online learning experience before. Any advice? What were your biggest struggles with online courses? How easy it is to participate in discussions in written form? Experience? What do I need to generally be ready for? Thank you for responses in advance

I recently found a youtube video that is the 1st episode of upcoming series. Amazingly, it almost perfectly reflects my system of views and beliefs. I just wanted you to take a look and give comments - with what parts do you agree/disagree/have something to say about them/whatever else.

Hi I have always had the problem of lack of motivation when it comes to my school work, you could classify me as lazy. I'm 6 months into my IB course and the work is really starting to build up and I still haven't changed my attitude towards my study. The problem is in years past I have been getting A's and B's by doing very little work (2hrs prep before yearly exams with little in classwork done and no homework completed and with assignments I would be doing 1,500 word tasks the morning they were due and still as I said before getting fairly good marks). I'm not a genius and I realise that the IB is going to require more effort from myself to get to my goal of 38+. I hav…

I am currently a junior, therefore this is my first year as an IB student. I started school on August 8, and it is now August 28 - it's only been twenty days. I feel like I will never catch up on all my schoolwork, let alone have even an iota of a social life. Any suggestions from past IBers or anyone else who has expirienced this?

I didn't find it in my heart to just start posting without an introduction, so yeah. Awkward first post, done. Hopefully you will be nice to me and maybe help me cheat on my exams and all that stuff.... Nah just kidding

Currently, I am heading towards my final year in high school. However, I am clueless about scholarships. Embarrassing. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Scholarships are awards given to those who register and qualify for the certain criteria, usually in the form of financial aid. I would like to ask: 1. Can Scholarships only be redeemed during the graduating year? 2. What good scholarships could you recommend for someone taking all IB sciences, IB english, IB social, and IB calculus? (Living in Edmonton Alberta?) Please, and thanks!

Ok so, our school is equipping us with laptops for my final year in IB. However, we can't download anything on them; including my numerous encyclopedias, EE novels, IA books, etc. However, I am getting an external hard drive to fix this - but what are good brands to get?

I know this is a lame question because the website tells that only IB teachers or coordinators gain access to it. But, I want to check out the latest updates or changes in IB curriculum especially for the Business & Management Subject Outline (if there is any). My teacher is new to IB and to the school, and got no OCC access with him. I'm quite hesitant to approach my school principal to ask for the informations. I emailed a query to IB Answers regarding any new changes in Business & Management Subject Outline because I found that the Economics Subject Outline changes in 2011 for the first examinations in 2013. But I got no definite answer whether the curriculum …

I heard that IB curriculum had made several changes for both its external and internal assessments, I'm new in IB and will do the exam on May 2014. The problem is that my teacher is new and he knows little about this. I am desperate. I need to know so badly about the Business & Management Subject Outline (2013/2014) Please kindly share the (LATEST) Business & Management Subject Outline 2013/2014 because I could not found one on the net. I only found a good one for Economics as such: http://www.ibo.org/diploma/assessment/subjectoutlines/documents/d_3_econo_gui_out_1011_1_e.pdf If any of you have the link for Business Management Subject Outline like above or of the…

Hello! okay so I just started using IBsurvival today, but my whole aim was to communicate with people that are not from where I am from, well I mean it's sort of the common goal for IB, but still. I was born and raised here, I have the urge to travel and, if any, I have only been out of state. I'm super interested in making IB friends from other places, now respond and give me hope that there is life outside of my little island~

Hey, Does anyone know of any good songs in a language other than English? I find that when studying, if I'm not too familiar with the words, there's less chance of me singing along & more chance of me focusing - I'm looking for anything in mainly French but great songs in any other languages would be welcome!

I'm from Denmark myself, and we have about 10 IB schools in the country. Most of the IB's syllabus is considered much more difficult than that of our national system, particularly when it comes to Mathematics and Group 4. Most IB schools here also offer the Pre-IB, as it's pretty much impossible to go straight from primary school to IB1. To illustrate the difference in levels of Mathematics, my coordinator tends to say that if you complete Mathematics Higher Level, and then decide to study Mathematics at university, you can pretty much kick back the first two semesters because you'll have learnt it all as part of your diploma, provided you've taken Statistics as an option…

My friends and I have got 9 days free to go away and as none of us have ever been to any Scandinavian/that part of the world country we really fancied going - but know very little about it! All I really know of it is that the Finnish have saunas and astonishingly more alcoholism than even the UK, Sweden has Ikea and a lot of natural beauty and Norway is swimming in oil revenues (and fjords) And of course high quality of life! I know it's quite a short time to go around in, but h…

Today, a major announcement was made by the CERN director working at the Large Hadron Collider about a subatomic particle that could possibly be the Higgs Boson, an idea first emitted by Peter Higgs in 1964. Basically, the Higgs Boson discovery could lead to a greater understanding of why elementary particles have mass. For a summary of the discovery, click here. I am so thrilled about this discovery, even though it is not yet confirmed that it IS the particle the LHC scientists are looking for. Nonetheless, the nature of this new boson perfectly match the description of the Standard Model. Scientists are looking forward for this new particle as they still need to do test…

I've been sitting here writing an essay for nearly 8 hours and I found a quote which I think I may be able to use... Until I realised I have no idea what it actually means.... "a fact can only mean confirmed to such a degree that it would be perverse to withhold provisional assent" Sorry this may seem real dumb but I honestly cannot seem to get my head around it :/ Would anyone be able to briefly explain what it means? Thanks in advance

I don't know if you know site called http://www.9gag.com , but it is very popular in my school. It is a humorous site with tons of funny pictures and videos., almost every IB'eer is a 9gagger and only rarely are people from national curriculum found to be 9gaggers. I was just wondering, is it the same with IB in other countries or is it just our school? Are most of IB students 9gaggers only in my country or in the whole world? P.S. WARNING: If you go to that site, be aware that is is EXTREMELY addictive.

Hi, This isn’t really a question or query, it’s more of just me writing down and expressing a dilemma I’ve been thinking about. Please share your thoughts. Just some quick background stuff/what sparked this thought: I got my IB results a couple of days ago and I was disappointed to say the least. I was predicted a 41 and only got 34 but that’s not the point of this. Needless to say I was pretty upset. Another point I need to mention is that like many others, Oxbridge was my “childhood dream” and after being pooled, I was rejected by Cambridge, on my birthday as well I might add. With a 34, I also missed both my firm and insurance uni choices for King’s College London and…

I saw a question in IBS "Would you raise your children religiously?" and I was surprised it was 50/50. Whole my class are atheists, there is not a single religious person(few might believe in God, but not in religion) and I always thought it was a common thing between IBeers. This is way I created this poll, to make clear - what are most of IBeers religious beliefs? Please, not only answer the question, but elaborate your and your classes view with a post.

Hey! Just a really random question, during exams, My supervisors change the clocks going by what time the exam was meant to start, they just disregard normal time. For example, we had two clocks in the one exam room, one for Geography and One for Psychology because the Geography exam didn't start on time. I hope you all understand what i mean If so, do your schools do that as well? Because I find it really strange, that they'd change time, instead of just changing the time the exam is supposed to finish.

I saw something similar to an art exchange a while back on the internet, and I think it would be really cool to get something like that started. It wouldn't necessarily have to be a drawn piece of art, it could be jewelry, food (depending on the country and what type of food), a stuffed animal you made, etc. Maybe not even an art exchange. Maybe it could be an item exchange? Give someone an old childhood toy or book or a t-shirt or something... I haven't come up with all of the details yet because I want see who I can get interested. (:

I am in the last year of MYP and about to enter DP. I am usually tired and lack of rest. I hope to sleep for 6 hours. But I can only sleep for 4 hours according to a plan that might make me do well in DP. Seniors and juniors in my school see sleeping 3/4 hours everyday as 'a dream' Just curious ,how much to you sleep every day??

hi I have started this topic because I find myself at the edge where I look for things which I would be doing for the rest of my life.I never got the essential exposure in life and the result is I am not able to say clearly when I was most passionate/committed or enthusiastic about something in life? I found out that I was never creative enough and I have not accomplished anything so far if I assess against ib standards. Well since I left my childhood home I suddenly realise that there should be some meaning to life and my existence. That moment was a spark in me that I should get exposure. Would you like to share your stories? Can you suggest me on how to get exposure?

But I admit here that it was the worst experience I ever had. The behaviour of my classmates were unimaginable. It was part of ragging. They never concidered me as a student, they teased me and mostly gossiped about I am being more older compare to them. They made fun of me that why I had to take gap year? They always did seperate me from their activities. Their friends used to pull my hair and they used to laugh. Lastly I decided to complain against them.I told my coordinator and sc…

Have you ever lost sight of the reasoning which led you to take the path of IB? Did you ever think about quitting school and continuing life on a different path? If so what catalyst caused you to change your beliefs? I for one forgot my self-set objectives during the past winter; filling my time with parties (regretfully mixed in with coitus and some drugs), extracurricular activities and pretty much anything non-related to my studies. I was still active in class but never took the time to review any subjects and this led to some of my teachers losing respect for me. At the time I regularly thought about the different paths I could be taking; for example starting from scr…

I've noticed on a lot of forums that people seem to hate using paragraphs when writing posts. Especially when they're really long and probably informative posts. Just having a massive block of text does take away from the message that you're trying to get across. You would like people to read what you're writing without feeling like they're dying on the inside struggling to keep concentration as you have just thrown words onto a page. Without any care in the world. It isn't really difficult to press the enter button is it? It's just as easy as pressing the space bar. A lot of people are quite efficient in regards to pressing that. It'd be really annoying and pointless ife…

Can someone answer a few questions I have? In America, why is the date format M/D/Y instead of D/M/Y? I really don't understand the logic behind it. It's like getting Russian dolls but putting them in the wrong order. Is the month soimportant that you have to confuse the whole world? If you could talk to any animal, what animal would it be? I really want to talk to an animal and see what they're thinking because humans can be boring some times. "blah blah blah school blah blah blah" whereas a dolpin = "I outsmarted a shark today.
