The University I'm attending is quite a long distance from home, around 380 miles. This means I'm going to have to stay in a dorm. So, do any of you have any tips or advice for staying in dorms? I know there are books on this kind of thing, but it's nice to hear advice from people, and to bring it to the attention of people who may not have thought of this topic before.

Hi? I'm just starting in IB. After IB I'd like to continue to university, but not in any university I want into top universities. Im not rich so I don't really afford to pay lot of money. So we come to my question is it possible to study in top universities with scholarship - not paying money? Top universities? I mean for example LSE, Campridge, Oxford and Princeton. If possible how many points you have have in IB certificate? Im intersted in economics, medicine and law if it matters. Thank you all for you're help and answers. Appreciation.

ok, so after two intense years of study I finally graduated from IB, last november 2010. I really looked forward to starting college and was excited about it, but now, I transformed into a lazy bugger and don´t study at all. This surprises me because I studied a lot for IB and was very organized. Now I feel that I didn´t take advantage of IB study skills or topics in math this first semester of college and I don´t really see that great basis that IB provides for college. I can´t find motivation at all to study and I´m getting bad grades (especially math). I bug all the time and don´t get to manage my time as I did for IB. How can I solve this problem? thanks for your time

So, I want to study medicine in the uk. Time frame of Applications for medical universities are from mid-september to mid-october. Generally med colleges accept ib points from about 38 points or above, having 18 points on hl subjects. You send your application out based on your predicted grades. but we dont even have our mock exams until december. so how do our grades actually get predicted? Does the counselor predict ib grade from our end-of-year exam from 11th grade? or just overall grade? what is if you messed up last year.. and are really good at the beginning of next year? aaaahhh. i am so worried, cause with the points i got on my end of year exam this year (11th gr…

I really don't much care about the country, it might be either the UK, Germany, The Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, Sweden, the USA, Luxembourg, Italy, France, etc. The thing is to move away. I dream every night with a new life, apart from all I know. New places, new friends, new traditions, new experiences, either good or bad, but different. I'm sick of the same thing everyday. About to start full IB, I already study everyday a lot. I read math and philosophy books almost daily, and plan my extended essay in every moment. I plan to score above 35 including core points. However, I am unable to pay the costs of studying abroad, even tuition-free countr…

Hi people.. I really need your help here. I had asked a few people about it, but then I would like to hear your opinions about this one. Hmm, I'm planning to further in medicine, obviously I want to be a doctor. so, generally, what is the best universities for medicine? Below are some universities that catch my eyes.. And I hope you can give your opinions about the universities.. UK- Queens's University Belfast. Ireland-Gallway, Dublin, RCSI Australia-Newcastle Newzealand-Auckland, Otago To be honest, I REALLY DON'T KNOW WHERE SHOULD I GO. For UK, there are very limited seats, as my sponsor only want to send about only 40 people there. Ireland about 100+. …

for those of you who know HK very well, would you recommend somebody to study in HK? why or why not? my parents want me to study in HK but I don't really want to because I want to go somewhere else, but I might change my mind and end up studying in HK if I really can't go anywhere else. also which are the top universities in HK, in which the courses are taught in English? is there a ranking table or something? may I also specifically ask for good unis for Engineering or Mathematics in HK? which are the most famous ones? I'm talking about English-speaking universities too. thank you all. any answer to some or all of the above questions would be highly appreciated.

Hi, My University plan goes like this: I go for my first year in Uk and then transfer to the US after. But what confuses me about this whole thing is that how does the credit transfer work? And how are my chances that I may get in even then? Because the only reason why I plan to go to the UK is because I am really scared to do SAT's. Any advices on this? Because I am starting to give this plan a second thought because its risky. PS: I am getting my diploma in 2012, so I'll be going to college next fall. Thanks

Hi all, It's the time of year to start registering for summer courses, and I was wondering what to do, since I've gone to summer camps for the past three years. Due to a competition in mid-July, my schedule is also a bit cramped in terms of what I can do. To top it all off, for university admissions, my university counselor says that I should show that I'd "made good use of my summer holidays." Anyone have any suggestions here? (BTW I live in Hong Kong, but I'm willing to travel if its not too expensive)

Hey Everyone, So I've been looking up universities; mostly I've been focusing on going to the known uni systems but I came across a few universities offering the liberal arts education. Its seems to make a very diverse and wholesome individual who is capable of handling a lot (Like IB). So my question is, do you think that it's better or worth it to go to a liberal arts university rather than one which isn't? Is it worth the time and money? And is one equipped better for changing circumstances and life in general?

Do not apply to sweden, starting i'm not sure it's next year but soon everyone who is not a sweed will have to pay to go to our unis, since the tax payers are angry that they need to pay for people who won't even work in sweden and only go to school here because it's free and taking places that sweeds could have taken. this is espacially in the medical program.

I am a Chinese person, but have only studied Chinese for 2 years. I am now in IB1, doing Chinese B SL. I am getting great marks. But the problem is that my chinese teacher went to a workshop, and there she learned that another Chinese with similar conditions like me (studied Chinese for a limited number of years) was rejected from Columbia (even when he had amazing scores) because they said "You are Chinese yet you study Chinese B" Now I am extremely afraid. I don't want to be rejected by good universities, but if I take A2 SL, I will definitely have a hard time getting even a 4. What should I do? Thanks

I have final exams coming up soon, and if i dont maintain my grades in my final exams, then i think that i might have my offer rescinded. Also, canada dont have a system like england, where you can acept 2 offers with a backup choice, so if i dont get similar grades in the finals, im worried that i wont have a place to go to

Okay, so! I have a dilemma. My top choices are Smith College (accepted), University of Edinburgh (firm on UCAS) and the University of Melbourne. English literature is really my passion, I love writing and hope to eventually go into publishing. Instantly, some people might wonder by Melbourne's on there- English literature in Australia? Truth is, Australia is where I'm happiest. The programs are still good and with the new breadth courses it's quite close to a liberal arts program, so I could still be taking a range of courses like I would at Smith. My parents (one British, one American) and relatives are at a loss as to why I'm even considering AU when I've been accepted …

So I've been interested in applying to UK universities, and I came across BMAT (which is probably similar to UMAT in Australia I think) which I would have to take in order to apply for Med. Since I am preparing for UMAT, I was like "oh yeah I might apply to UK universities as well ...BMAT seems fine" but then when I looked into the test date, it was during the middle of my IB exams in november this year! What should I do? Shall I just give up on it?

Hi everyone, I'm new to the forums but I thought it'd be as good a way to find opinions as any. I'm in my second year and I'm pretty sure I will study theoretical physics in uni after the IB. I don't know how well I'll be doing (in uni) but I'm kind of thinking of getting a PhD altogether seeing as IB already ruined my life... My question is: (assuming I don't have any scholarships) should I pay less and enter a less prestigious (I say prestigious because I'm not entirely convinced on their academic superiority) university and finish my Bachelor/Honours/Master there then try to get into a 'better' uni for a PhD? Should I do my whole undergraduate and postgraduate educatio…

I'm not sure if there's already a topic for this or anything, I'm still new. Has anyone by chance gone into Waterloo Engineering after doing IB? If so, what IB courses did you take? I know HL Physics is recommended...but my school doesn't offer HL Physics, and there was a chance the SL Physics would be cancelled, so I didn't risk it...would this ruin any chances of me getting in? Edit** I should probably move this to specifically the "USA and Canada" section, as I realize now, but I don't know how..

Hey, So I am having an interview with one of the Professors in the law department this Thursday (24th Feb) therefore I was just wondering if anyone who is currently in the law field or have been interviewed for personnels of the law department could think of some questions that might be asked. I am quite nervous since I don't know much about law, so do you think they would ask more about law-related questions or just general questions about myself and why I want to go into the field of law? I really would like to be very prepared since it is one of the courses that I truly want to study for the future. Thanks in advance! Joyce.
