Hi y'all, I was wondering whether this would be a sufficiently narrowed down IA focus question for my History higher level IA: To what extent did American intervention in the Afghan war against the Soviet Union lead to the development of the terrorist group Al-Qaeda? Please let me know your thoughts on this. What are some changes I could make to make this a stronger question? Thanks!!

The topic that I chose for my history IA is "To what extent did Cold War tensions affect the 1980 Olympic games in Moscow?". I really like the topic and can find a lot of information about it but i have been told by multiple teachers/students that the topic is too broad. I have tried looking at different aspects of the 1980 Olympics but I'm not sure that is the best route. Hopefully someone can help...Thanks.

Please help me, if you can. I have been very stuck with the topic that I have right now. I wish to try to find the best way to make a topic on Greek and Roman Mythology. I can not figure out the best way to do this, if it is even possible to have such a topic. I am very confused about this paper. Thank you.

Hey guys!! So I'm currently trying to formulate an appropriate IA (SL) question BUT I feel like my topic is too meh and my history teacher wants me to do something I have no interest in. I was thinking of focussing on the fall of communism in Eastern Europe in 1989, and examining mainly Gorbachev's role and how his attempt in trying to improve the situation in the Soviet Union contributed to the fall of communism and hence the cold war. So my question is: To what extent was the fall of communism in Eastern Europe, and hence the end of the Cold War, the unintended outcome of reforms introduced to the Soviet Union by President Mikhail Gorbachev? I don't know if this i…

For my topic, I'm researching the No Gun Ri Massacre during the Korean War in which several hundred Korean civilians were shot under a bridge, as the U.S. Army was instructed to in case of North Korean spies, and the effects/signifiance of it. I have enough sources to gather information for it to write a good IA but my problem is pulling a question from this. For the life of me I just can't figure one out! The problem is that the massacre went largely unknown until around the 1990s, 40-50 years after the war, so there isn't very much I can write a question on. It didn't carry too much significance in the war, but it did show the lack of proper communication. Maybe I could…

So i'm finding it hard to understand how to do a good paper 2 essay: How are you meant to weigh up and evaluate the importance of various factors?? For example, how do you justify the fact that propaganda assisted his rise, without just asserting 'propaganda contributed to his rise'?? I don't understand how you're meant to weigh up factors and argue what the most important was, considering there's not that much 'hard evidence' as such? Thanks for any responses!!

Hello, fellow reader. I'm new to this forum and I need help or guidance if my History IA is good to undertake. My topic is based on slavery to the civil war with the abolitionist John Brown. I have been spending countless nights trying to come up a good research question to start my Plan of Investigation. I am happily open for opinions or tips to make my question better. "TWE is John Brown considered a martyr other than a criminal?"

My topic is about the Tianamen Square protests. I've been debating if I should focus on the causes of the Tianamen Square protests, or if I should focus on the effects of the protests after it happened. (i.e. on the Chinese economy/Chinese freedom/etc.) Thank you!

Hi, i´m new to this forum so excuse me if I do something wrong, but I need some help with my internal assessment. I am planning to do it about the figure of the samurai throughout the Sengoku, Edo and Meiji periods, and I wanted to know if my main question was satisfactory: "To what measure is the figure of the samurai, as it is portrayed by the media, accurate?" I would appreciate suggestions if you have any... Thanks for helping!

ok so I had a research question which was how did the Duvalier regime impact the political and social structure of Haiti? But the problem is that I feel that because I mentioned The Duvaliers in my EE talking about how the Haitian revolution impact on the political in Haiti I would be plagiarizing myself so I came up with a few questions and I would like thoughts on them (1) What impact did the Harlem Renaissance have on African Americans? (2) What caused the Rwanda Genocide? (3) What was Roe v Wade impact on society? If I could do my Haiti topic that would be great but at the same time I would like to do the first question I just don't know if it's to broad.

Hello everyone, I have started my IA history HL and I need help, my research question is : To what extent did the cult of personality in North Korea impact its culture and ideology. The only way to make my research is to find ressources from the internet but I can not find any book that relates to this subject (history books...) Hello! So, I'm a History SL student. The problem? I have no teacher! Our school didn't offer history until my year, and now they have stopped offering it again! So, I'm trying to work through this on my own. I have thought of an IA topic, I just wanted opinions, so that I know if what I'm doing is right or not. The topic is: To what extent was the Battle of Berlin 1943-44, a success? Basically, its going to be an assessment of the success of the battle, considering various factors and various historic perspectives. Good? Okay? Acceptable? Let me know!! Thanks. xxx

I just received the assignment to begin brainstorming topics for my historical investigation and wanted to get some ideas flowing. Anything you have is appreciated. Thanks. Requirements: Event or something to investigate and takes place in (or strongly involving) either Brazil or the US Take place between 1890-1945 Have 2+ points of view that are valid and researchable Example that I cant use: What were the motivations for the US dropping the atomic bombs on Japan? Two points of view being to A) take Japan out of the war ASAP 2) scare USSR prior to cold war and show off US strength

Hi guys. I am an IB newbie student. The school just made us to choose a subject and a suitable topic for EE and I am thinking of writing it on history. (BTW I don't take history) The things I would like to find out is: 1. If EEs on history generally get good scores 2. If not taking the subject would be disadvantageous to me 3. Any specific requirements/restrictions Thank you!

Hey IB history people around the world! As you already know you can choose one out of five topics for paper 1. My school chose 'Rights and Protest', but I do not know which of these books is the better one to go. On one hand there is the Oxford version: https://global.oup.com/education/product/9780198310198/?region=international And on the other the Cambridge version: http://education.cambridge.org/eu/subject/humanities/history/history-for-the-ib-diploma-(second-edition)-paper-1/rights-and-protest-(second-edition) If anyone has used these books can you please tell me if you found them to be helfpul or not and what the pros and cons are maybe? Hi, I'm currently doing my history IA and I'm stuck on the Section C. My first source is a radio broadcast on a cartoon, commemorating the 70th anniversary of the end of WW2. It was aired by a British cartoonist in 2015 and it features historians. How is it valuable? I already wrote that the historians are experts in the field and have the benefit of hindsight but I can't seem to find another value linked to its purpose. Any ideas? Thank you

I took a whole journey from document to document to finally get the code of the specific report I'm looking for for my Historical Investigation. It's a report of the commission sent to se about the Ã…land Islands case in 1921 by the League of Nations. I found it in the UN catalogue, and it's marked as public and free use, but I can't see any link or anything to download or view it. Here the link: http://biblio-archive.unog.ch/detail.aspx?ID=170804 Does it mean that I could only have access to it physically?

Hello to all, I was wondering if anyone can tell me whether this question for my History IA is "worthy". "Were the lives of the Russian people better under Lenin's Russia rather than Stalin's?" I know it's not great, or perhaps not even possible, but I'm really stuck trying to find a focused investigation question. If anyone could provide some advice that would be fantastic. I really enjoyed studying about Lenin and Stalin so that's why I'd prefer writing my IA on either one them or even both. Thanks a million

Hi everyone, my first post on this forum. Just an inquiry on my Historical Investigation research question. To what extent was the “Reign of Terror†(1793 – 94), led by the Jacobin Club, a necessary part in establishing the revolutionary ideals of liberty, equality and fraternity? ^The above is my question. Is it too broad? Should I focus on one aspect of the ideologies? Thank you in advance for any replies ^.^

I am in my second year, and both my english AND my history + TOK teacher left after last year. My new history teacher has not taught anything like the IB in years, she's been teaching civics and economics to 9th grader for like the past 5 or 6 years.
