hi, I am writing my IA on the reason what made hitler and mussolini corporate before WW2. Of course there is common ideology, foreign policy, common ennemies (britain france and russia), expansionist aims, abyssinia, spanish civil war... But I am really stuck, it seems that I have nothing more to say and I don't really know how to organize it. Would someone with good/deep knowledge about the topic help me please? I would really appreciate any kind of help. Thank you!

Hello, I was wondering if this topic would be appropriate for a History IA: "To what extent did Picasso's Guernica painting influence the world's views on the Spanish Civil War?" Thanks!

I am currently working on history homework, and struggling to find primary sources. How do you find primary sources? Websites? Books? Are there any good websites that provide good primary sources? Research question of my essay is, Evaluate the quote. "Failure to effectively respond to Italy's aggression in Ethiopia signified the death of the League of Nations."

Hi everyone! I am currently narrowing down my focus for my History of the Americas IA and was hoping some of you could critique my question to help me improve it. To what extent did the Second Great Awakening contribute to increased participation in the abolitionist movement? (I was also considering "....increased support of the abolitionist movement?". Does this choice sound better?) Too broad? Just right? Poor choice in topic or focus? Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I have to start my historical investigation all over again, due to the fact that my previous teacher was not present most of the time and lead our whole class into the wrong direction. I did one last year, but my research topic is too vague. I feel that it is too vague, despite the fact that she said it was acceptable. My topic was: "To what extent did Japan's aggressive foreign policy affect its relationship with China shortly before and during WWII?" I was constantly struggling to see what way I can dive into my topic, but I felt like I could have in multiple ways that it got too complex. Also, I do not feel it was keeping me up to my feet. I lacked interest in th…

How hard is History at higher level? I'm quite a good history student and have always gotten A's in it, but the fact that a ridiculously small amount of students ever score a 7 in history HL (for May 2014 it was only 2%) freaks me out a bit. How difficult it is, and how heavy is the workload? If you were to give it a ranking out of 10 for difficulty (with 1 being easy as hell and 10 being the worst thing you've ever done), what would you give it?

Hey! I'm new to the IB program and I was just wondering, would art be an appropriate topic for a History IA? Do you think topics about how art influenced WWII would be good? I found out online about how art was used to deceive enemies and the topic of propaganda. Therefore, I was thinking about the potential IA topic of, "How was art used to trick people during WWII for personal gain?" It's just a rough draft but do you think this question itself is too broad? Or is it okay? Also, is it common for students to write their History IA around films? Like comparing a movie to real sources. If so, does IB look down upon that? In other words, does IB like to see originality …

Okay, so I would like to write my History IA on something related to Mao Zedong (Tse Tung?) and how he treated women, but not as with his support of feminism and whatnot, rather as his "romantic" affairs and maybe his relationship was with his mother. My original question was: How did Mao Zedong's treatment of women reflect his treatment of his country?......my teacher told me I would need to do more research and I'm realizing that that question really sucks. I just enjoy finding out the lesser known/secretive details about certain historical leader's lives and I like to use that information to discover how it correlates with how they lead. I already know what these peopl…

Hey!! So I have my first draft for my History IA is due in 2 weeks and I haven't started yet! I've read a fair amount of past History IAs, so I have a good idea of what's needed and I have my question so I'm guessing that research is the next step. I just wanted to make sure that my question was suitable: How was London’s population psychologically affected by the Blitz bombing? I'm not too sure exactly what I should be looking for however.. Obviously I'm interested in the psychological impacts/ramifications of the Blitz, but I am wary that this is a historical investigation and should be focusing on that. Does anyone have any good suggestions as to areas I should be …

Hi! I need to start working on my IA as soon as possible but I'm struggling with the topic. I was thinking about doing it on French influence on fashion in mexico during "El Porfiriato", but my teacher said it was too vague and that i was focusing on other things rather than in history. Then I thought i could write it on "to what extent did Coco Chanel contributr to the womens right movement in the 19th century? This are just ideas, but if you could give me some topic ideas you would really really help me. Thank you

Hey everyone! This is my first post here yay! I am trying to work on my IA. I am so lost. I had picked a topic, but then realized I wouldn't have enough information. I also don't really understand the point of the IA? I want to do something with the Tuskegee Syphilis Study and Henrietta Lacks, whose cells were take without her permission before and after her death. This would all fall under the unethical medical treatment of blacks but I don't really know how to make a question or where to go from here (preliminary research). Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you so much!

Hey I'm currently going through the things I've learnt during ib1 History HL and organizing my notes. On top of this, I decided to self-learn/self-teach Spanish Civil War for Paper 2 since my EE is on the topic anyways. The problem is, although a lot of the past paper questions for Spanish Civil War delve into foreign involvement, there isn't much information in the textbook I'm using (History for the IB Diploma, published by Cambridge). So if anyone did learn Spanish Civil War in their school and know about the foreign involvement part, can they share their knowledge on its role, impact, effect, reasons for, and significance? I'm also willing to share my brief …

I am trying to find sources for my history IA and I am having trouble finding them. My question is: “To what extent was the Hitler youth significant in the social Nazification of Germany?†I am planing to look at the role of Hitler youth, as well as control over media and the crushing of discontent. My history teacher told us to look for expert historians in that field but even then I cant seem to find anything substantial enough. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated thank you!

Hello , I just finished my first year of IB, and our history teacher asked us to find a topic, refine it and find sources and maybe even get started on writing the IA. She provided us with some resources on how the IA works, but unfortunately I can't seem to find any topic that suits the course. My main issue is finding primary and secondary sources. I can't seem to find anything on a "unique" topic because everything that is unique, just isn't discussed in sources, or it's just not discussed in released documents. I would love to do something regarding Stalin's domestic policies, such as his policies towards women or maybe something to do with religion under Stalin. …

Hey guyssss So I'm currently striving to get my history IA finished as soon as possible so that I can focus entirely on my EE. But one thing I'm confused about is how to distinguish Part B and Part D. I know that Part B is supposed to only include fact and that Part D is solely analysis but sometimes I get confused. For instance, if a historian called Chen Jian wrote No Chinese sources can prove the existence of the alleged March 1949 agreement. In my interview with Yao Xu, a Chinese authority on the history of the Korean War, he firmly denied the possibility of such an agreement. would this be considered a fact or analysis?? Also Kim Il-sung’s secret visit …

I need to write an essay about the civil rights movement for African Americans, Native Americans, and Feminists. The essay needs to include the origins tactics, organizations, and Supreme Court cases involved in each. The essay is to be written in three parts, one for each movement, and I need three primary sources and four secondary sources for each portion. Does any one have any sources I can use, or at least where to look. Note: The sources may not be blogs or encyclopedias.

Hello guys, So I'm partly done with my HI, got some comments back from my history teacher, but I'm really uncertain whether my HI passes the checklist, and I have to hand it in next week. My proposal would be to ask any past-IB'ers to skim through my HI and say what mistakes do they see? Of course not in the historical content, as the topic is nothing covered in IB curriculum, but like general mistakes and general comments. Anyone could help me with that? If you are familiar with HI criteria or really good at writing it? Thank you in advance!

Hello, Im doing my historical investigation on Russia's bloody sunday and I'm confused with how to manage my sources. I have several sources like Father Gabon's petitions so documents relevant to the event, primary sources like diary entry's, newspaper articles ect.. Figes A People's Tragedy, so a book written by a historian and other relevant information like figures ect... I don't know which sources to analyse in Section C, should I choose the Figes book and a primary source? Hi there IBers, I was introduced to IB History IA last week in my History HL class. I thought of 3 questions for my IA. These are the three question: How has media influenced by the 9/11 attack? Was dropping the atomic bomb justifiable to end the WWII? How has the 9/11 incident helped improve the safety of passengers and airports in general?I asked my teacher and recommended to do the 1st one since it is really good. Would theses be a good IA? Is there anything I need to add to these questions? And I was thinking about the 1st one too. Is there any BOOK sources I could see for that question(1st one). Thank you, Sreekuttan

Hey! So, how should I go about evaluating sources? Should I include the sources being evaluated as appendices or how should I do it? The information I have under the Summary of Evidence section is basically events and opinions, but nothing I could analyze in depth as in documents and stuff? If I understood well, they examiner does not have to read the appendices, so would it be okay for them to be appendices or should they be in the Summary of Evidence section??

Hello, For the history IA, we have to use a minimum of 8 sources; however, I don't really know how to incorporate 8 different sources into 2000 words. How many times should I cite sources that aren't considered my main ones? So far, I've cited my other 7 sources once or twice in the Summary of Evidence but I've found no place for them in my analysis. Would this be hurtful to the overall strength of the IA?
