In the markscheme from last years paper 2 is says " Please be aware that Stalin, would not be an appropriate example as he did not establish the single-party state in the Soviet Union. " as an answe to this question " Popular support, rather than the use of force, was vital to the establishment of single-party states.” With reference to two states, each chosen from a different region, to what extent do you agree with this statement? " is this true? can stalin not be used as an example? if that is true i have a major problem.....

Hi, Do you have some last minute recommendations for History? Specially, I rely entirely on my Norman Lowe "Modern World History" and perhaps you know which chapters would be best for the mini essay, which is the only thing were you actually need to know stuff at all. I know nothing. My history classes was very basic and unexciting.

Hello! I really would like my research question evaluated please. My research question was: In what ways were the Japanese and German concentration camps similar? Consider rephrasing your title. The “to what extent were they similar?” is a little basic. I am sure that with a bit of creativity, you can find a better one! The underlined text was my teacher's comments. I really need help recreating this to RQ to a more suitable one. I am going to attempt to create a comparative piece on both concentration camp systems. I want to look at how both systems committed war crimes and their political justifica…

Hi, I am planning to do my extended essay in History. I wish to explore the historicity of a 'mythological' legend by presenting evidences and statistics. Ramayana is one of the greatest stories in Indian history. Most historians believe that Ramayana is just another mythological story. Others consider it as history. My Extended Essay will basically analyze evidences that prove the existence of Ramayana and conclude its historical authenticity. Most exemplars focus on historical events that have definite evidences. However, I wish to explore the thin line between history and mythology. (I know it's a gamble) Will a topic like this be acceptable by IB? Or shoul…

Hi, I have a IA topic in mind, though is it ok to investigate this? To what extent was the invasion of Grenada of 1983 Reagan's Cuban Missile Crisis? / Compare (and contrast) the invasion of Grenada in 1983 to the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962. or To what extent was the invasion of Grenada of 1983 in line with the Roosevelt Corollary to the Monroe Doctrine of 1905? Would any of these work?

What are some good methods to formulate an excellent research question that has a historical debate, that can be investigated in 1300 words (is specific), and allows a detailed analysis? My topic is: Germany and the Alliance Systems Despite how smart, "To what extent was Germany responsible for the formation of Alliance Systems within Europe during the pre-First World War period of 1870-1914?" sounds, it is too broad and I want to investigate something similar yet I can not form a specific research question. I have to have a RQ preferably by Friday, Monday next week at best.

Stupid question but I have to ask for peace of mind. Can we use a secondary source for Section C? I wanted to use a newspaper article which is referred to in an academic book on my topic, but I can't find the article online. So all I have is a few analysed quotes to go on but not the article in its entirety from the direct source.

I'm doing my IA on Bloody Sunday '72 and there's heaps of terms which need to be explained in my opinion. Political positions, organisations and locations of cultural significance - a lot of these terms are crucial to getting a better understanding of the severity of the events that took place before and after. Are we allowed to include a glossary section? And would it be part of the word count?

Hey guys, I'm facing a little problem with my History's Internal Assessment. I just started the Diploma approx. 2 months ago and I think now it's the best moment to know some opinions about it. My topic is: The Influence of J. Rockefeller's Legacy in the Great Depression My investigation question is: To what extent was J. Rockefeller's legacy important at facing the United States economical redevelopment after the Great Depression to the New Deal's beginning? In this regard, what do you think? What shall I do to improve it? Please! make any suggestion or even criticize it haha... I really want to know your opinion. Thanks!

I was told "how have military weapon advances affected the outcome of wars?" is too broad. It doesn't have to be about wars but I would like to do something related to guns (or other weapons). I have ADHD so if it's not something at least moderately interesting, I will very easily lose focus and struggle.

So we just got our EE talk a week ago, and we have to choose mentors soon. I want to do a history EE on the role of agriculture in Chinese history, however I fear that the scope will be way too large (centuries and centuries and centuries and centuries....). All the exemplary history EEs I have seen pertain to topics with a very small scope, such as a particular WW2 operation, a particular revolution/uprising/revolt in year 19xx, etc etc. Is my topic problematic?

I need topic for my history IA so I was looking for something connected with CIA and I thought about this one To what extend CIA's involvement in Cuba in 1961-1962 contributed to development of the cold war ? But I'm not sure if it's good because The Bay of Pigs Invasion (so big failure of CIA ) convinced Fidel Castro to cooperate more with Soviets Union and maybe partially it contributed to the Cuban Missile Crisis but is it enough for internal ? Or did I missed something and it's more connected ? Do you have any ideas how to moderate this topic or find something else connected to CIA and Cold War ? Can you help me, please ? Thanks in a…

Yugoslav breakup and Chinese Civil WAR could be used as two other examples." I wanted to ask if it is possible for any of you to explain how to build the essay and maybe where can I find info on the Break up of Yugoslavia?

I have a problem with my history IA as well. I wrote my IA with the topic on my country's history. I investigated how particular deportations contributed to the uprising that took place just after them. It is a type of "To what extent" question, but, in order to answer it, I need to take other factors that affected the occurrence of the uprising as well. However, my teacher, which I would not consider as very competent, says that in order to answer the question I should not comment on other factors. How did you answer "to what extent" questions, does commenting on other factors that are not the main focus of the investigation is appropriate?

I was thinking of doing something about the US takeover of the philippines. I remember from AP world that the US took after the philippines right after the spanish-american war with the treaty of paris. The US basically helped them get free from spain but then took over them. So i was thinking something like, to what extent was the US takeover of the philippines ethical? Or maybe To what extent was the philippines capable of running their own government? This one arrives from that the US reasoned their takeover with that they believed the philippines couldnt support themselves.

Hi everyone, Just recently, my question "To what extent did the principles of various philosophes influence the ideologies of Robespierre during the French Revolution? just got somewhat approved by the teacher. I originally wanted to focus on just Rousseau and argue that although Robespierre did draw inspiration from Rousseau, he was also influenced by other Enlightenment philosophers such as Voltaire and Montesquieu. However, the teacher said that I might be limiting myself by phrasing the question such as "To what extent was Robespierre's political and social ideologies influenced by Jean-Jacques Rousseau?". He is also worried the number of sources might be less th…

Before I get into the IB, I did IGCSE's and I took the extended exam scoring a B" — the equivalent of a 6 approximately. Anyways, I am really passionate about history. I work so hard, regularly revise and do my homework. Most of the content we've covered so far is familiar with me and so I didn't face much difficulty. In November of 2015, each student was given a Progress Report about how we're doing so far. At our school, they have this "0.5" system where it's not just a solid "6" but could be an "6.5", for example. I got a 4.5 grade and to be honest I was disappointed. My mother and I met with the teacher and talked to him about it in the parent-student-teacher eve…
