I am doing a language B EE. I know that we can use a movie as "cultural artifact" for category 2(b). However, I am analyzing it from more of a literature point of view. The EE book says: "Category 3: An analysis of a literary type, based on a specific work of literature exclusively written in the target language?" So, Does a movie fit in category 3? Thanks.

Hello procrastinators, Are IB paper questions ever repeated? Now by repeated, I don't mean word-to-word––is it possible that papers can have the same question, but with a different wording? When I was in IGCSE, all my teachers said that questions will never be repeated. But after doing many past-year papers, I realized that questions were repeated, usually not word-to-word. I'm not talking about those small definition questions. Are other questions repeated? Thanks!

I am in Hl chem and Sl physics and I realized I ended up choosing topics related to electricity for both subjects. I am studying photovoltaic cells in chemistry and electrolysis in chemistry. Would this be ok or do I need to change one? I heard somewhere that they are not allowed to be similar but is this ok? I am just starting so If I need to change I can.

I need your advice on this one guys, here's the somewhat summarized story: So I went to this IB school abroad for a year and came back home for the summer, turns out my parents ran out of money and now I've been out of school for 3 months and I'm still back home. IA's started about a month and a half ago and I was working on my history IA from home, Biology IA started and after talking to the teacher he told me the coordinator told him that I'm not allowed to work on them from home because of the "academic honesty" policy, they then asked my parents to give them another date; they did, and it's in 20 days, the school said that's the final delay date I can …

In my school we got our first set of predicted which are for people applying for early decision and we are getting the other predicted in December. Now my predicted are: Chemistry HL: 4 Physics HL: 5 Geography HL: 5 Math SL: 5 English Literature SL: 5 French B SL: 5 I am planning on taking a gap year and applying next year so I am not necessarily worried about my predicted grades but I am worried if I can improve. I have not been working hard at all and I wasted so much time last year in grade 11. I've always been getting good grades before IB and used to be a top student. I am starting to put much more effort this year than before. My I…

I'm in Pre IB (grade 10 or MYP5) and I use to be in an international French school before. When I chose IB, it was because I was aiming for Ivy league unis (especially Harvard) and the school days at my Ib school in Sweden are short so I'll have time to train a lot (cycling) as in the French school, we finish every day at 6 pm. Anyways, I thought I'd get good grades cuz that's how it was in the French school but I got my first progress report and I'm so disappointed. Check the attachment. I still have the chance to go back to the French school, should I? (I'll get better grades there but won't have time for training). On top of that, I don't like my current school, the pe…

Hi my fellow IB classmates I am a Y11 student currently taking my first year of IB (it's been 2 months already as of this post) at an international school in Hong Kong. However, there's a special case for me. Originally, I am leaving for Canada or the United States to continue IB or IB/AP due to the limited subject choices offered here in HK. Due to certain events, I broke my forearm and in the process also severely damaged my ulnar nerves, preventing me to leave as constant medication is required. On the up side, my parents allow me to leave next year to continue IB in Canada or the states but there's some concerns raised from me at this point. Can you only take 1 l…

Dropping out of the IB diploma is something I am highly considering and I have the course change form in my hand ready to sign. IB has taken a lot of my free time, has been stressing me out, taking away sleep and overall has been a detriment to my mental health. I even have been gaining weight because I just don't have the time to study and work out. The university I want to go to requires a 88 average out of 5 courses and I don't think I can reach that with my current grades. I also want to apply with my Alberta grades as opposed to my IB grades. Dropping the IB Diploma would mean a fresh start in many of the regular stream classes. I also eventually want to go to med sc…

Hi, I'm currently doing Chemistry HL and I'm finding the concepts challenging and hard to understand. I'm at the lower average end of my class, and most of the people are taking chem because they want to be doctors/engineers etc, however I have no plans to do chemistry at university and am now slightly regretting choosing chemistry HL. I was just wondering whether I should continue with Chem HL or not. I find chemistry interesting and I don't mind putting in the effort, but I'm scared that it will get much harder and that my grades will worsen. I'm currently taking Psych SL, Maths Sl, Chinese B SL, and English Lang Lit HL, Film HL, and Chem HL. …

My Global Politics Teacher is fairly new at teaching the subject, and he has a tendency to teach us about a lot of history, as well as geography (as that's what he's used to). I understand that it's important to connect the other social sciences to understand GP, but he literally spends half of our time in class holding lectures about e.g the Peace of Westphalia and enlightenment thinkers, as well as giving us Seterra quizzes on all the countries of the world. We rarely discuss the content in the IB textbook. Is this okay or should I try and bring it up with a teacher?

Hi everyone, I am currently in 12th grade and doing the IB as well as the international Abitur. I've completed my Biology and Math IA and almost completed CAS. However, I am scared of all things that will come in the future like FOAs and all the exams, etc. Doing the IB isn't doing double the work though because my school combines a lot of stuff. That is why you can't choose which HL and SL topics you want, these are decided for you. Things like the EE are still something I am working on. However, I'm not entirely done yet. I want to study in Canada, Manitoba. Will they accept me with the International Abitur only? What should I do? Regards!

Hi! I'm considering taking geography SL or HL in the IB. However, when I was researching the subject I noticed that in the syllabus there's quite a lot of stuff on gender equality. I found a link to a book called "Planet Geography Second Edition Equity" from the page "Populations in Transition" (from ibo.org) that is one of the compulsory topics under the heading "textbook resources" that addressed the issue of gender and change. I looked a bit deeper into it and found that there was a lot of material on "feminist geography" especially on the pages 100-105. Since this was directly linked on ibo.org I reckon this is something we will cover during the courses. Is geogr…

Hi guys! I would love to know what you think about my IB subject choices. I started the IB programme one month ago, so I still have same time to change my mind. Right now I am studying: English A, French B, Mathematics & Geography - HL Polish A, Biology - SL Could you please tell what you think about this set? What courses could I take at the university level? Personally I have thought about economics, finances, law or something connected with french language. I will be extremely grateful for your help Have a nice day! xxx

Hello, I was wondering why IB would have a maximum amount of HL's one can take in order to get a diploma (i.e. 4 HLs)? If the worry is about workload, I don't understand why people are allowed to do 4 HLs and 2 SLs plus 2 extra HL classes (amounting to 6HLs and 2SLs) but a person isn't allowed to do 5HLs + 1 SL and 1 extra HL class amounting to (6HLs and 1 SL) which is less work? Thank you!

Managebac has turnitinuk.com built-in to check essays for plagiarism but its seems to only available to teachers. Is there any way for students to use it? I've tried the website but it is paid and needs school registration and all. Or any good alternatives? I've tried many before but they don't seem that accurate. Managebac still says my SimilarityIndex is 9 while all other websites state 0% plagiarised. I know 9 isn't a lot but I'm curious and also a bit paranoid.

Hello, so I'm kind of new to this and will be starting IB next year (this use to be my sister's account who has already graduated). Before the term ended, my school gave the 10th grade a little orientation regarding the DP for next year. They gave us our subject selection sheet and currently, I'm beating myself over which one I should take. I'm not really a scientific person nor am I interested in learning about the Earth (as bad as that sounds). So the best advice that I could receive is which subject is the most easiest for me to pass and who knows, which one of them might interest me later on. Bio SL or ESS SL?

I had originally given 3 subjects (Maths, Geo and ToK) for remarking back in July, unfortunately, all of them stayed as they were and I lost the money which I put in. However, one of my classmates asked the school to re-moderate our Maths IA as it was harshly moderated, and as a result my overall maths grade increased. My question is: would I be entitled to ask for a re-fund for my maths paper as I did go up in grade?

I've just started IB for 2 weeks and am taking HL Maths, Physics, Economics; SL Eng Lit, Chi lang&lit, Chemistry. I'm in a HLSL mixed Chemistry class and personally I find Chemistry to be easy (up till now), so I'm considering whether I should take a forth HL in Chemistry. I am applying to the US therefore a predicted grade of 42/42 will be definitely much more helpful than taking a forth HL, but I'm wondering whether it is feasible to get a predicted(final) grade of 42/42 with 4 HLs. I will also apply for UK unis and I heard that they basically ignore your SL subjects, is this true? Any kind of advice will help! thanks!!

Hi, I take chemistry HL and I recently got back my test. I got 80%, which was a 7, and to my standards, that's quite high because I'm normally happy with over 70%, and getting a 7 isn't really a common occurrence for me. However, I feel like I'm the dumbest person in my chem HL class because everyone scored over 90% and they didn't even revise for it. Half of the time, I don't get anything in class and I have to do double the amount of work in revising and reviewing my notes because I don't get it as quickly as them. I'm not sure what to do and I feel really disheartened that they didn't revise yet they still got better grades than me. Thanks if …

Hi, I have my mock exams soon, and I heard they're important if you want to directly apply for university, however in my case I am forced to take a gap year due to personal reasons. Would the predicted grades from my mocks still even matter or can I just apply to university with my final grades? If they don't matter, it doesn't matter, I studied for them anyways, but I just want to know whether they are necessary. Thanks in advance!

Hey so how do I calculate the result for my exam. On your exam info you get like scaled, morderated and raw mark, and grade. I'm trash at math but I'm assuming that they do some magical math process and change moderated mark into grade, and then perform another magical mathcraft to change this grade into what they show on ib candidate. How do they calculate that? The subjects I take are Chinese A SL (self taugh, not sure if that's important), English B HL, German Ab initio, Bio HL, History HL and Math SL. How do you turn the moderated mark into grades for these subjects? If someone can be so kind to help. I checked online ib result calculator but it wasn't accurate s…

Hi, all. With September drawing near, I am scrambling to mentally prepare myself as much as possible for the full diploma program. Truth be told, I am not accustomed to constantly revising my subjects throughout the school year. For some time, I've studied passively rather than actively. I let upcoming tests and exams dictate when I would study. It's a nasty habit and I am aware that this will have to change since I am going into the IB program. I was wondering if any of you have developed daily study schedules that work for you? If so, would you be willing to share? Additionally, I would appreciate some advice as to how to approach my courses in terms of studying. …

Hi, so in September I will be starting the IB programme and entering ib1. For few days I have been wondering about how to get organised in a school year. I wanted to ask you, IB students, in your opinion which organisation system is better bullet journal or a planner? Bearing in mind the demands and specifics of the ib programme. To this day I have been using bujo but i don't know if it will work in ib or is it better to invest in a planner. I know that this is a personal matter, and I should choose what suits me best but I just wanted to ask for your thoughts and opinions on the topic.

Hi guys! I will be starting the Pre-IB next year and though I have read as much as I can about the subjects available to me, I just wanted to see if I could get some more opinions on what will give me the best chance of doing well. I want to switch to Bio HL or History HL. Would I be able to cope with BIO of my IGCSE double science grade was BB. My expected grade was CC. I was also in the lowest science set and got an E in my mock in 10th grade. As for History I have no prior experience and from the forums I read His HL is incredibly hard to get a 7 and is regarded as one of the most time consuming subjects. Sounds pretty intimidating... My memorizing skills aren't the best. I really am not good at studying. IGCSE grades were pretty bad but IB forces you to have 3 HLs. If you ask me what I enjoy more I'm not particularly fond of either help please

I just had a talk today with my IB coordinator about dropping out, when he brought up special considerations or IB certificate program(?). I would love to stay in the IB, because it's such a lovely program and we've got so many wonderful teachers here, but obvo I'm concerned with my ability to keep up and the flexibility of the program. My IB coordinator very much wants me to stay in the program, and I'm really appreciative of his support. Hello I've finished IB three years ago. I took Math, Physics, Chemistry and English HL and Polish, Geography SL and went to the University to study Physics. Hi! I was recently talking to kids that go to other IB schools and commented on how I'm taking 2 IB language B SL courses. They told me that their school wouldn't allow me to do that and that universities might look down on taking 2 Language B courses. Hi again, I've recently talked about the mock exams, and now I'd like to know whether September mocks are more important than the January ones and if the January one is too late to be sent as predicted grades? Hi, i'm an IB student studying in China, any other IBers nearby (especially in DP1)? (China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Korea, Japan, etc.) It would be nice if maybe all of us in DP1/DP2 on IBsurvival made a study group or something similar so we can discuss stuff like certain classes or CAS? (Maybe on IBSurvival, WhatsApp, WeChat (for China students this would work better), KiK, or Discord?) It would be extremely helpful, especially since DP1 is the first year of IB for some of us

Guys, any ideas on how to pass through IB in 1 year. I have the last year of IB but i didn't do a lot in my beginner year due to several problems. I have no problems in CAS since I've already done it. I know all the topics for my IA's. However, IA's are not finished yet. I've finished my TOK presentation but my EE is not done completely. So, in general, EE is not done, I have the IA topics but the IA's are not done and I have to revise the core topics in every subject. How can I manage this all?!!!
