I'm having trouble with citing a source. How would you format the citation correctly in MLA7? https://www.cia.gov/library/readingroom/docs/CIA-RDP79R00890A000900010002-5.pdf The source is a briefing: Created on the 11th of September 1957 by the NSC (National Security Council?? Is this correct?) Approved for release by the CIA in 2001 (so I guess published online in that year as well) Found on an online database (Central Intelligence Agency's Freedom of Information Act Electronic Reading Room) Accessed on the 1st of May, 2018. Basically, the source was created in 1957, but was only declassified in 2001 (published to the public) an…

Hey! It's me again talking about my extended essay. I am in a situation where I am not sure what to do. Firstly, when I began the extended essay course, my first preference was psychology and I had a really good topic, but I was not selected, as the class could only select a certain few. My second preference was English, mainly because of this one topic that I really wanted to explore; the portrayal of God in works by William Blake. However, my teacher did not like this idea (which I have zero understanding why) and she forced me into choosing novels (which is the worst type of texts for me - as novels are mainly less sophisticated than poems or plays). She shut down most…

1) So, I realised that I've trapped myself in an endless cycle where I often have to frantically write or revise until two in the morning. How do I break out? Personal deadlines don't always work. No matter how hard I try, I can't keep personal deadlines because, number one, the tasks usually take wayyy longer than expected, and number two, if I plan to do something that is due in a few months on a certain day but I have a deadline or a test that same week, I will usually focus on the more urgent task and forget about my plan. But you can only do that so often until it's the week before the deadline of that oh-so-important assignment. 2) Is it worth the time to …

Hello! I finished my May 2018's exams but I checked my English IA works before I deleted the files from my laptop. I checked the one that I submitted as my final IA and noticed that some of the facts and quotes have not been cited properly. I kinda gave credit to the source tho like "According to...", "Wendy Hawks said {insert quote}", "From GQ magazine..." but stupid me did not cite it. I checked my plagiarism rate which was 5-9% (some reworded, some wrote similarly to the source). I did not receive any plagiarism notification on April to May and I emailed my IB coordinator and he said that it will be ok as there was no notification. I don't know but will I fail my …

Hi all! I’m planning to study IB Diploma next year but the school which I have chosen do not teach Psychology HL so I’m considering to take the subject online. For people who have taken some IB subjects online, what are your thoughts and opinions about online IB?

Hi, so I'm not sure whether I should take history hl or economics hl. I'm not sure what I want to study yet but it probably will be something with law or maybe business. I don't know. I'm interested in history but it's hard to get good grades in history hl so I'm not sure what I should do. Do universities (good ones) like history hl or economics hl more? I'm also going to take maths hl, english b hl, history hl/sl, physics sl, literature sl and economy hl/sl. Thanks!!

I was told that my first semester final grade for one of my classes is a 68% so I will not be eligible to receive my IB diploma, however, I will still be able to take my other 5 classes exams except for the one class that I failed in. The class that I failed is a language class and it was SL. What does that mean? If I'm not getting my diploma then what is the point of taking the other exams? I'm so confused...

I am a junior (rising senior) and my grades are: Semester 1 Physics HL - 6 Economics HL - 6 Art HL - 6 English LangLit SL - 6 Korean LangLit SL - 6 Math SL - 7 TOK - A (7) Semester 2 Physics HL - 6 Economics HL - NOT FINALIZED (will be 6 or 7) Art HL - 7 English LangLit SL - 6 Korean LangLit SL - 6 Math SL - NOT FINALIZED (probably 7) TOK - A (7) The thing is, my grades showed a consistent increase from year 9, and I don't want to end up with a plateau or downfall at the end. (thought it would look bad for universities) I have econ finals coming up very soon and if I get a 6 or 7, my S2 econ grade will be 7. I am very…

So I have three options to pursue in college and a job later on; 1. Astronomer 2. Physicist 3. Philosophy (I would want to do all of these professionally, and the last one as a professor) What IB subjects should I choose? My school doesn't offer philosophy or history :(

As the title says, i'm just about to finish IB 1 and I may be moving to another country, it's almost the last month of IB. The school i'm going to doesn't provide the Language B that i'm doing and the topics that are being covered in History and the texts in Lang and Lit are probably going to be different. Would it be better to repeat IB 1 next year?

Hello, I have an enquiry about the Maths IA. Generally for IAs such as chemistry and biology, an extension to the research/IA is just a suggestion for future research/experimentation based on your limitations. However, I'm hearing something different about the Maths IA which is really driving me crazy. There's a word going around that an extension in SL maths is where you conduct further calculations or apply what you have already found for something else, but if I were to do this, my page limit will definitely go beyond 12 pages. Can someone please clarify this for me? Am I being oblivious or is this just a stupid rumour?

I am studying in 11th grade right now, and my second semester (final semester) report will be shared in a week. And I am sure that I did not do as well as I might have been able to do. In the first semester I got a 32/42 for my overall grades, and in this semester I am looking at approximately 34/42 maybe a 35. both times, my internal grades hurt my final grades, and this time the corrections were rather skewed, biased and disproportionate. I should be getting a 35-3/42 but because of the grading, my grade is where it is. It is also my fault for not having done some of the assignments, and I think I may have taken this year lightly, because I did extremely well in 10th gr…

Next year, I will be joining the IB DP programme and I would like some suggestions. For my DP, I consider myself as leaning heavily on to Physics and Mathematics, therefore the hope of taking HLs for both. Having the HLs, I've always considered taking the other 5 subjects, as milder as possible, so I can focus more of my time on Mathematics and Physics than other subjects. However, the problem I ran into was considering my 6th SL subject, which I thought of keeping as another Group 4 subject. Initially, I thought of Chemistry, but the fact that I am trying to reduce workload, to give time for Maths and Physics, takes that way, as I heard Chemistry Sl, deserves a lot of wo…

Predicted grade < Actual grade

My school is doing really poor job on giving informal predicted grades and most of full IB kids got actual grade that is higher than their predicted grade. For example, last year, this one girl I know was predicted to got 5's & 6's and one 4 in math HL, but ended up getting 6's & three 7's. (Of course, this is one of the extreme examples) The problem is, she was waiting listed and ended up not able to get into uni she wanted, but with her actual IB grade, she is very sure she can be accepted. She went to whatever uni she got accepted because she was kinda satisfied with that uni as well, but would've it be possible for her to wait another year and…

I’m starting the IB next year and I’m planning on taking Chem HL and Physics SL, but now I’m starting to get nervous because I don’t know if I can do it, since people have been telling me that it’s very hard to do two sciences and my school doesn’t like it very much. I really love chemistry but I don’t know if I can handle the amount of content. I don’t enjoy physics as much and I’m also not the best at it, so that’s why I’m doing it at SL. Plus, I think that it’ll give me better chances to get into a university. I just want to know if it’s too hard to take two sciences and also if the amount of work is not overwhelming.

So I am almost ending Y1 and I take higher level Math, Econ, History and standard level: Spanish B, English Lang Lit and Physics. Overall, I and not doing so well, as my math grades fluctuate, my history and econ is ok i guess, and my standards are ****ing killing me, like they are way too ****ing hard for my ability. I want to aim for univerisities like KCL, UCL, LSE etc. and I am nowhere near. My parents scold me every time saying how stupid I am for not being aware of things which leads to my downfall in academics. I do not know what to do. I find myself so stubborn everyday and I try my best not to be like that and yet it still keeps nailing me. The way my schoo…

I want to study Astronomy in university and I'm thinking of doing Chem HL and Physics SL. I know that I should probably be doing Physics HL, because that's a lot more connceted to Astronomy that Chemistry is, but I know that I won't be able to get a good score in Physics HL. I also really love chem. I've looked at some universities and their entrance requirements and none of them specified that you need Physics at HL to get in. I'm just curious if they are more inclined to choose someone who did Physics HL instead of someone who did two sciences, but Physics SL. Thanks.

Hi there. I'm feeling hopeless at this point with less than 3 weeks - some of my subject grades are not at where they need to be to meet my conditional offer. It's really crucial that I meet this offer but at this point, I feel that anything I do will be useless. I'm just generally feeling very frustrated and hopeless. I can't take afford to feel like this anymore because I've been feeling like this since March and I've taken breaks from my studying but going back to studying on and off. I don't really know what I'm asking for here, this might be a bit of a vent. But I really do feel like I'm in a really bad place atm. I can't concentrate properly and if I do, I man…

So I'm in my junior year of IB and I'm currently taking IB Bio SL and IB Physics SL. I'm planning on taking the Biology E/M and Maths 2 subject tests on June 2 (the day after the last day of school for me) which I'm fairly sure I'll do fine on considering I've taken bio in both freshman year and this year. However, I'm not sure whether or not I should take the physics subject test. So far this year, I've been doing kind of mediocre in the class, I guess – around high B's and low A's on average. It's pretty inconsistent, actually, since some units I'll do really well on whereas others I'll completely fail. There's rarely any in-between. I don't think physics is exactl…

Hello, as of writing this, I am in the hospital. I believe that I won't be able to write the IB exams this May. We're also moving to another country, and I was wondering whether it'd be possible to finish my IB there after I get better again? This might seem desperate, but I want to finish my IB asap, but due to my condition, I am unable to do so. Does anyone know if that is possible? I have also completed everything (EE, IAs, etc.) Thanks for any advice you can give me, it is much appreciated.

Hi, I will be starting IB DP next year and I've been facing some issue with my choices for group 2. My choices were French and Spanish. I've studied French for 3 years, and now I am at phase 2 and still, I get 3s and 4s. But the reason why I get such grades is that I don't care about French and honestly I don't like learning languages. On the other hand, I have Spanish ab initio that I've never learnt in my life. Moreover, I heard that Spanish is one the easiest languages in the world and is quite easy in the IB. Thinking this through, even with myself weak at French I was thinking of choosing French ab initio (additional I was wondering if I can still go for French ab i…

Hey guys! I am super stressed at the moment so any help would be greatly appreciated. I have been applying to different universities in Holland (Maastricht, Groningen, Tilburg and Leiden) but I have only got 25 points in my IB diploma. Now I am so scared of being rejected since I have got no plan B at the moment and don't consider going through the stress again and retaking my IB exams... So some of y'all might've seen my post awhile back about changing subjects after IB1 and not taking History HL. I've been looking at doing either History SL (which would be a 2-year SL) or Psychology SL (1-year) for my Group 3. I talked to my coordinator about it and he claims I would have to take History SL (out of those two) because I "need to have at least one 2-year SL" for the IB. Here's the thing though: if I were to leave History HL as is, I would have four HLs, and two SLs, both of those SLs being 1-year SLs. I told my coordinator this and he says that one of my HLs would "count as an SL, technically." Is this true? Thanks!

Hey everyone. I'm doing IBCP. For anyone who knows, for my IB Personal and Professional Skills course, we have to complete something called a Language Portfolio (for those of you who know, and are doing IBCP, and are or have taken the IBPPS course). Anyhow, I was wondering what is an effective or great way to log your language hours? Like if taking screenshots on Duolingo good enough? Also, how does IB know that we actually completed fifty hours of our Language Portfolio? And I know this is completely random, but I feel it's kind of cheesy the way we have do it. Like what I mean by that is, couldn't some just easily forge their "work?" I mean that's too much ef…

I was awarded a C in TOK (16/30 - the grade boundary) for the Nov 17 session when I was predicted an A. This was a 10/10 on the oral, which was moderated to an 8/10 and a 4/10 on the essay. Having been predicted a high A on my essay, this was completely unexpected by me and my teacher. My Cat 1 EUR failed and when I asked for a Cat 2 EUR, there were no comments on my paper. I was wondering if anyone has been in similar situations where they received a mark that they honestly can't make sense of (in any subject), and how you went about coming to terms with the reality once you knew the mark was fixed. (That one mark was the difference between a 44 and a 45 and all the…
