I need some urgent guidance regarding my IB subject choices for next year!!! This is what I've entered; English Lit A HL Economics HL History HL Maths SL Environmental systems and societies SL Mandarin ab initio SL However, I still have the opportunity to make changes so I thought I'd ask for some thoughts on them before I finalise. First of all - do they seem optimal for law at Russel Group/Ivy Leauge unis? English Lit, Economics, Maths and Mandarin are more or less definite so I am left with two concerns; I am considering swapping out History HL to G

Hi, I'm doing my EE in English A Literature and am going to focus on something to do with Macbeth. Would I have to compare this to another of Shakespeare's works or can I solely look at Shakespeare's characterisation in Macbeth? Which would give me more marks? Thanks

Hi everyone! Ok so, my original Extended Essay research question was "How are the common themes of betrayal and love portrayed differently in the Shakespearean comedy “A Midsummer’s Night Dream” when compared to the tragedy “King Lear.” However, my adviser said that it was too narrow for an EE and I should compare two different playwrights instead. I'm not really interested in going outside of Shakespeare, so I have decided to completely change my topic. I'm still sticking to English Literature, but I think I'm leaning towards novels instead. This is where I need help. I really want

Hi, all. With September drawing near, I am scrambling to mentally prepare myself as much as possible for the full diploma program. Truth be told, I am not accustomed to constantly revising my subjects throughout the school year. For some time, I've studied passively rather than actively. I let upcoming tests and exams dictate when I would study. It's a nasty habit and I am aware that this will have to change since I am going into the IB program. I was wondering if any of you have developed daily study schedules that work for you? If so, would you be willing to share? Additionally, I woul

I have to start doing my IOP and I get to choose from "Hamlet" by Shakespeare, "1984" by George Orwell and "Frankenstein" by Mary Shelly. I chose "Hamlet" and I was thinking about doing my topic on Horatio. The topic would be about what I think the sequel to "Hamlet" would be and what would happen in it. I want to make my presentation really interesting so any suggestions? Also, is my topic a valid one for the IOP?

Hello all, I am new to this forum and am unsure whether this is the formal way of posing a question. I have been thinking about doing my extended essay in English Literature, but I'm not sure whether the topic I have chosen is suitable. I would like to either look at the use of scripts to allow for creative freedom in cinematography and plot has changed over film history, or morals and humanity as a metaphysical theme of the film "Blade Runner" (I can link this to the book the film is based on - "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep"). However, it feels as though this is possibly

I'll jump right in to the absolute mess of my situation - I changed from World Studies to English at a reasonably late date (but not the latest!) and have since found a muse for my essay writing. The beautifully gothic Edgar Allan Poe - I've chosen 'The Pit and the Pendulum', 'The Black Cat', 'The Tell-Tale Heart', and 'The Fall of the House of Usher' as my four short stories to study. Of course, I have an English supervisor, but there is one problem - she's suggested I jump right in and write, without a question. Okay, so I know I need to write about the gothic horror element within his

Hi all, Last year, I'd been getting fairly good grades on my essays, and this year, well, it's suddenly dropped which has been quite disappointing (though not a surprise considering how unresponsive my brain is being towards analysis in essays). There isn't really one big issue, but a lot of big ones, which is more than a little troubling, specifically: writing a coherent and concise introduction determining the subject/theme of the passage the actual analysis and knowing if it is enough/makes logical sense I'm aware the middle is only done through practice, and wh

I am a student of Grade 11 and I have my final IOP due in about a month or so. I was browsing through a few previous forums on how to go on about doing your IOP but many of them seem to focus on books. As I'm still quire new to IB could someone please help me understand how one should do an IOP on english poetry? The poems we've done in class are that of Robert Frost Thanks in advance!

I was struck down with tonsillitis the day before HL English Lit Paper 1, but I still did both Paper 1 and 2. I had the form submitted to the IB and was wondering if anyone had any experience with this process. Would the IB consider my circumstances 'adverse'? If so, how close does your mark have to be to the upper grade boundary to be moved up a grade?

Hi! So I really need help with choosing what HL and SL courses to take. I'm definitely taking HL English Literature, HL History, HL Spanish Language and Literature, SL Biology, and Math Studies (SL). I think I'm quite good at French, so I was thinking of taking French B HL too, but I'm afraid 4 HL courses will be too much to handle. I've been getting 6's and 7's in all of my courses, and would really like to get into my dream school (which happens to be an Ivy League school). I intend to focus on the Humanities. I chose Math Studies because I'm not very good at math and taking SL Math woul

Hello, I'm starting English Literature HL first semester in 2 days. I heard its one of the hardest subjects and its very hard to get a 7 in it. I got an 88 in Grade 10 English and I don't know how I'll be able to manage at least a 6 this year since that's like 93-96%, which is especially hard for an HL subject. Will I be able to survive English HL? Is it as terrifying as people say it is? One of my main issues is that I always saw English as an opinionated subject where you hand an assignment, essay, or whatever in and you pray that you got impressed the teacher, so I have no idea what to

Hello everyone, I am writing my Extended Essay in English lit A, and could really use some feedback on my choice of topic! The book which I have selected is "Slaughterhouse Five" by Kurt Vonnegut, and some of the topics I have in mind are: 1) Survivor's guilt in Slaughterhouse Five 2) How the portrayal of the characters in the novel contribute to it being anti-war in nature 3) The theme of fate and free will in Slaughterhouse Five I am a little inclined towards the 2nd option, but I really do not know whether any of these would qualify. Kindly give your honest opinions, on whether any
