I'm suffering from severe social anxiety and I have to take up more meds and extra hormones to able to participate the activities. I just wanted to know how much CAS I have to do to graduate? I really wanted to have some challenges and get out of my comfort zone for awhile but it has come to a point where it is very painful.

Hello people, I have ongoing activities for all three categories of CAS (learning languages for creativity, going to the gym for activity, tutoring chemistry for service). Is it enough to only do (and reflect upon) those on-going activities, or do I also need some extra CAS outside those mentioned activities? Thanks a lot.

So, I decided I would try to finally win NaNoWriMo, or National Novel Writing Month, for CAS this year. I love writing, and it's something I've wanted to win for a long time (about 4 years now). Needless to say, it flopped even more spectacularly than the previous three years combined. So, where did I go wrong? It possibly had something to do with the fact that I've got a lot of work all of a sudden (even if I don't really- I'm still waiting for the EE and the IAs to come crashing down on me after Christmas... >.>), and that my music started becoming much more time-consuming and serious in recent weeks, so I just haven't had time to work on it. I've been workin…

Hi guys, I'm just wondering what can be an easy example of a CAS Project that does not require a lot of people. Can it be learning hard choreographies and posting videos of yourself dancing to prove that you've been learning? I don't have people to collaborate with, so what can I do?

Hello community, I only have my CAS project left, and I was wondering whether playing an instrument at an official club could count as a CAS project. I wanted to start learning to play the piano, and ever since I've been a kid, I haven't been able to do so. Now that I can do it and have enough time, I want to pursue this dream of mine as well as linking it towards CAS as a project. Is it eligible for a project or not? If anyone could help, I'd be delighted! Kind regards, Amekara

As a junior in IB, we are required to begin our CAS project. My ma insists I create mine from scratch and I am truly not creative at all and hardly intelligent so does anyone have any ideas as to what I could do my CAS project on?? (I have read the answers for other people answering this question and I would like to introduce the fact that CAS hours, volunteering, is not the same as a CAS project. If you're going to answer, and I mean this in the nicest way possible, please actually know what the CAS project is)

(Correct me If I'm wrong) IB Changed the CAS hours to at least 3 activities in the 3 categories. Do these projects have to be long term or can it be something that lasts a few days Eg going on a a trip organised by some educational program for a few days where you can do debates and other activities. On the trip let's say you would do a debate, and running. Would that count as 2 activities? If not can someone please explain.

Ok so I started doing IB like half the year late. I moved from an Australian public school into an IB and IB is hell like I had so much to catch up on. Now that in terms of class work I'm caught up but then theres CAS. I kid you not I have like 26 hours and summer is half over. I'm a rising senior so basicially I am screwed! I'm also a really boring person in that I have no talents in what the hell I can do for my CAS hours! I guess things that I'm interested is anything on a computer like social media and stuff. Could reading count for CAS hours? Help me! I need ideas! THANK YOU ALL HEAPS!! - Brooke xx

I got to know that CAS is no longer marked and is not accounted for the extra 3 marks given to us. So, is it important for me to focus on the proposals and reflections of the activities I carry out? Because I take quite a lot of time writing my reflections. Also, how many hours of CAS activity do I have to do to satisfy the IB requirements? Anybody? please help me! Your help will be sooooooo much appreciated !

So I had an unorthodox idea for my creativity section for CAS hours. My sister wanted to do a youtube Gaming channel with me and I was able to use that as part of my creativity sessions. I had another idea to play Dungeons and Dragons with some friends of mine who are also in the IB. I'm wondering if it's viable for me to use my experience being and Dungeon Master in Dungeons and Dragons as Creativity hours? I would also need some form of Activity item, and service item (if you couldn't already tell, I don't like doing too much activity)

Hey guys, Alright, so up until today, my teacher has been saying that 4 activities was enough and that we would still pass CAS. Now, with a month or so to go, he's informed us that we need to find 1 more. I'm totally stuck. I've struggled already by trying to find my 4 current activities. I've already got 1 activity of each (Creativity, Action, Service), but I just need something quick and easy that would still count for CAS. Preferably something in Creativity as I'd enjoy it the most, but I'm fine with anything. Any help is greatly appreciated, this is urgent! Thank you

Hi, so as we all know IB has some new requirements for CAS, and they don't have a set number of hours anymore. I have a few confusions in light of this. Firstly, what is the minimum time period from which I can include certain projects in my CAS portfolio. For example, am I only allowed to talk about activities, or service in my portfolio from the period that I started my IB diploma? For example, I am graduating in 2018, and started IB in 2016. Can I write about activities, etc from before 2016? Like 2013-2015? This is the biggest confusion I have when it comes to CAS as of now, as I have a few friends that have included activities in their portfolio that date as far back…

I know that we have to complete 150 hours (overall) or 50 hours per activity (creativity, action, service) but I have some questions about counting hours... Does the extended project count as part of the other CAS activities that i do? Does the number of hours I do for my Extended Project count as part of the overall CAS hours? I am asking this because currently I have around 120 hours... and I need other 30 hours, which i guess I could fill in with the hours I did for my extended project. The second question is... I am doing several activities where I combine 2 CAS letters (mostly creativity and service). When i count hours do i count them separately? let's s…

Hello, For the C part of CAS, my fellow students and I decided that we want to make a blog where we review good TV shows. The details of the blog are as follows. The website was created by me, but each student is assigned their own TV show and tab on the website. They create their own content and upload it themselves. Although there are 6 tabs on the website, it is simply a forum of sorts. It is not collaborative in nature, and everyone does their own work. My question is this: Does this fulfill the requirement for creativity for CAS? Any feedback arguing either side would be greatly appreciated. Disclaimer, I might use your argument with m…

Hello, I'mI'm doing my first year of IB and I want to study medicine in uni. So work experience is required for me. This summer, I can work in a hospital. I'm not getting paid or anything, but I would assist doctors and observe things. Is this considered as CAS? My teacher told me it can't be considered as CAS but I don't see why it can't be CAS hours

I was going to do the CAS project by joining a project conducted by an organization called 'Project Abroad' which is non governmental/political organization. The duration for this project will be exactly two weeks, and it's going to be carried out in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. This project targets children in Phnom Penh, so we will be building playground, caring children and do gardening. However, I have to pay for insurance, food and accommodation. Does this project fulfill the requirements as a CAS project? Another question is that I am learning Kendo (Activity) at the moment. Would continuing Kendo in be a CAS Project as well? Thank you guys in advance

I originally planned to have a stress free last month by doing my final three minors, but then I was told one of them I already completed didn't count. Now I have to do four minors at once. I'm nearly finished with one of the four but it's already Valentines Day and I'm so stressed. Also, my ingrown toenail got infected again which means I can't do one of the action activities I signed up for. Must minors be all completely balanced, or is it one Creativity one action one service and then the other three can be your choice? Because I don't think I'll be able to finish the action one :'(

Hi, my school is asking me to do 1 hour of activity for each CAS component a week and it does not matter whether if we are done with our number of hours. But I heard about other schools allowing the dismissal of CAS in a year's time. So what is the requirement?

My school keeps telling us that we need to complete at least 150 hours of CAS (at least 50 hours for each area) in order to fulfill the CAS requirement or else we won't receive the IB diploma. However, I have recently discovered that the IBO removed that requirement back in 2009-2010. Can anybody verify this for me?

I was having a chat with my CAS coordinator and he seems to be new to the whole CAS thing so I couldn't really determine the reliability on the information he gave me. He said that a CAS project needs to be longer than a month and done in a group. I was involved in a backstage crew, and the whole thing went on for 2 months, but we only had rehearsals for about once or twice a week. We planned the things that needed to be done for the whole show, prepared the props, costumes, etc. as well as the procedure for the performance night. Will this count as a CAS project or experience?

I'm in my first year in DP and I'm struggling with my CAS. Even though I am a part of NHS (National Honor Society), I cannot think of a single feasible idea for my project. I have some hours for Activity portion of CAS, but I need a project for Creativity and Service. I would like to initiate a project it in our school rather than participating in activities organized by external organizations. Do you guys have any ideas for a good CAS project?

Hey everyone! My friends and I wanted to create a magazine sort of thing which has advice on how to survive the IB for the pre-IB students at our school and anyone who is starting the DP programme. We were wondering if that idea could count for CAS, specifically creativity. It will involve designing the actual magazine as well as writing the posts. Would that be approved by IB for creativity hours?

Any fellow Boy Scouts out there? I'm wondering if being in Boy Scouts counts for CAS as it is a youth service organization. Or do only service projects in Boy Scouts count for CAS? I attend Boy Scout meetings each week, so can those add up to CAS hours? Also, what would Boy Scouts go under? Creativity, Action, Service, or any combination of the three?

Hi fellow IB students! I am in need of an idea for a CAS project, preferably something related to the creativity part since I have a lot of service and action. I'm not the most creative person in the world and that's why I was hoping you could help me! Since I'm in IB1, I still have a lot of time to make a project but figured out that it might be a bad idea to procrastinate until the very last moment. It doesn't have to only involve me, as I'm sure I can get more people to participate if needed. Thanks in advance.

Hey guys, We're nearing the end of my class' CAS course and to conclude it, we need to present about our CAS Project we did during the IB. It needs to be around 10 minutes, filmed and I'm doing it with two other people so we should speak for a bit over 3 minutes each. So far we're planning to talk about what our CAS project is, what we did, what the learning outcomes were and what we think we accomplished in the project. Is there anything else that needs to be included because I feel like we're missing something and I can't really find some good help online on sites and such. I need help urgently please, the sooner the better! Thanks

This is my first post on this forum, so please forgive me if I'm making any mistakes. This year I'm in Year 11, and it is my first time actually planning for IB. For CAS me and my friends plan to go hiking and camping for 3-4 times within 3 months, with reflection, planning and goal setting in between each expedition. Firstly I would like to ask if this sounds like a viable experience to you guys, as I have asked a few of my teachers and some have said we need an ultimate goal or "Do you guys plan on camping for 2 months?", and others have said it is a decent idea. Secondly, I realize we need an adult supervisor for a CAS experience. I would like to know if the super…

I attended an activity of HOME OF SILENCE. In this activity, we take care of amentia and cooperate with teachers to give those guys lessons such as music, drawing, writing... i associate this activity with "ethics" but my teacher asked me the reasons. And it is quite difficult for me to answer. "How much we should endeavor ourselves to help these people?" i think this question has various answers which are able to arouse the ethics questions because of different answers answered by people. The teacher refuted my thought. What do you think and how to accomplish the ethics? im fairly confused.

Short question. Do CAS projects require collaboration with other IB students from your school? It says on the CAS guide that the projects simply "involve teamwork", but that's really vague. I thought it meant teamwork with people in general - not necessarily with other students. But some of my friends say that the CAS projects have to be done with at least one other student for them to be valid. Is that true?

Hi fellow IB students, Just need a couple of CAS hours? Not sure what do for a CAS project? My name’s Ashley and my online CAS project might be the solution. The idea is to make a website written by IB students, based on exploring cultural differences. Interview questions will be sent out to everyone who will then send back their response (around a paragraph) with pictures and these responses will then be collated on the website. You can be an individual writer, or you can be a coordinator, collecting responses from others in your class. Or if you would like to make this your CAS Project, you can join the team which plans the questions, edits…
