"Where writers unite." That sounds corny. Whatever. Anyway. Lc and I love to write. One of the ambitions of our lives is to publish a book (separately, not together). So we thought we needed a place here to talk about our writing and consequently see how many other writers we have here. So do you write? This is the place to share your works, maybe get some constructive criticism or comments, or just talk about your writing habits. To be totally honest, I can be extremely defensive and insecure about my writing, so I don't show them around too much, but I occasionally do. And when I do, it's either because I think it's pretty darn good, or it was written to be shar…

On behalf of this thread I intend to discuss the infinite themes and motifs of one of the greatest dystopian novels of the twentieth century. I read 1984 for IB english and found it very interesting, it opened my mind to the reality of the world and existing power relationships. As an IB history student, it contributed to my understanding of single party leaders. It is a novel full of symbolism, suspense and emotions. It made me realize about the freedoms that we nowadays enjoy and made me wonder how long will these liberties last, as well. I absolutely loved it and I believe it leaves certain issues open to readers to question such as the abuse of power from the authorit…

Hi everyone, I'm taking IB next year and I'm planning to choose Language A self-taught mother tongue, which in my case would be Italian. However, I do struggle to find an appropriate tutor. Are there any specific requirements that I have to take into consideration while choosing a tutor? Could you recommend a website where I can find one? In case anyone is taking this subject in IB, how did you find a tutor? Thank you so much. I'd be grateful if anyone could answer these questions:)

Recently my class studied this really weird book called 'Kitchen'. It's a Japanese books, but was translated into English by a translator. Apparatly it's appealing to Japanese teenagers, but I found it quite different. It's about this girl who likes Kitchens and wants to die in a kitchen.... I havent completely finished it yet, but it's getting a bit better. But still quite weird.. Anyone else studied it?

I am looking for a good topic for my English EE, and want some suggestions. I have read both Wuthering Heights and Jane Eyre, and was deciding to do a comparison, but couldn't find a good topic. Also, I was wondering if it would be okay to do my essay on just one book, say Wuthering Heights. I am also open to reading other books for my essay, so any suggestions for a good topic would be highly appreciated! (I start my DP on January next year btw)

Am considering this book for EE, but was told it was studied in Gr. 9 at some schools and so would not be ideal. Did you study this book at your school? What year did you study it in? And what kinds of things did you learn about it? Thanks a bunch!!!

For my english IOC, some students are getting one of 10 poems, and some are getting a one page extract from a play 200 page play. Is there any "IB Rule" saying that students in a school must all get the same text type, or is it totally fine if different students have different text types. I feel like it is way easier to prepare for the play in advance as you can basically memorize some of the analysis for the 10 poems.

Hi all! So basically, I had a topic ready for my EE, but then my teacher, who is also my EE mentor, decided that she wanted to put the book that I am researching for my EE as a free-choice for my English class, Little did I know, there is a new rule stating that we can't write EE's on books that we analyze in class, so now I have to change my topic and I need help. I was thinking of doing something on how eating disorders are portrayed in literature, and thus focusing on couple of literary works. Please, if you are a genius and now how to formulate EE questions, and/or know of a good book about eating disorders, please help me out. I will be forever gr…

I have no motivation to study it, and I don't even know how to study literature. I also have no clue about how to write a literary analysis essay (Wrote around 150 words for my exam, and apparently it was a summary). I never pay attention in class even if I try to because of how much I dislike this subject. I'm an IB 1 student so at least there is still hope. Please help 🙏🙏🙏

I have decided to do my WT1 (which is based on part 2) on propaganda. For my text type I chose a film review of the film "V for Vendetta". I have based the task around analyzing the forms of propaganda the Fascist government employs throughout the film. I am concerned, however, because this would not be a direct analysis of propaganda made by media, but an analysis of a depiction of propaganda within a film. Would this still be a viable topic?

Hi! So i was originally going to work on The Bell Jar and The Yellow Wallpaper for my EE but since i found out that this has been done numerous times, I decided to change my topic last minute, hence the urgent help needed. I'm really into poetry so i figured i could use Sylvia Plath and Anne Sextons poetry to write a comparative essay as their poetry often revolves around the same topic. My rough draft is due in two weeks so i would really appreciate if someone could give me some feedback on whether 4000 words can actually be written about them. ( the poems i was thinking about using “The Colossus”, “Full Fathom Five”, “Daddy”, and Sexton’s “And one for My Dame” and …

What are the differences between the current oral component and the new oral component? Will the texts be unseen? If you are aware, please give a detailed explanation! Thank you

I need help with my Interactive Oral for Lit HL... 1.) I can't decide which of the three books to do it on. My options are No Exit, Perfume and The Reader. 2.) I really can't think of any good content from The Reader as it was by far my least favourite book out of the three. 3.) The discussion scares me and my class is full of kids who dominate the discussion and don't let anyone who's not in their clique speak. Any advice? Thank you!

Hey guys, working on my works in translation ( for final hand in to IB). In class, we talked about psychological setting briefly when discussing short stories. It was basically tone, mood and atmosphere. But im unsure because we only touched upon it. However, in my essay, I want to use it. I searched it up to clarify the meaning of this type of setting but can't find anything. Do you guys know what psychological setting is in literature? I want to know for sure. Thanks!
