Hi, I am struggling with getting all 3 marks with the reflective statement. My teacher keeps telling me that I should add more points, but I find it especially hard since theres a 300-400 words limit. Does anyone have advice on how to get all 3 marks while staying in the word limit?

Hey everyone! So for my upcomming IOP in 2 weeks, I am planning to do one on Wide Sargasso Sea. So far I managed to form a thesis of "The author Jean Rhys presents the theme of Alienation through exclusion of the characters in the novel based on race, wealth and status, appearance and shared cultural symbols and values." I chose this thesis primarily after going through interrelationships between the characters of the novel. Primarily, these factors in my thesis are brought through: poverty, appearance (creole). Alienation that leads to destructive acts in the novel

Hey everyone! I'm doing my first Supervised Writing on Oedipus Rex in a few days, and I'm pretty bad at these kinds of things (in-class essays, literary analysis without preparation, etc.). I'm not planning to write my Written Assignment on the play, but I want to do well since I want to get practice, as well as a good grade (to raise my overall grade haha). Does anybody have any tips on how to do well in these kinds of situations? Any and all help is appreciated Thank you very much!! xx

I've decided on doing the IB Diploma Programme, and at my school the IB program is fairly new (I think they switched from AP to IB in 2010). Since it is fairly new that means we don't have a large variety of courses to choose from. After high school I want to go into science for my undergrad then go to pharmacy or medical school. Although I am 95% sure I'm going to be following this route, I could also go into engineering. The courses I'm planning on taking are: English Lit HL (school only offers HL) French B SL Psychology HL or History HL (school only offers HL group 3's. I just want to do th

Hi 24 hours passed so we can talk about it. What did you choose prose or poetry? And most importantly, how well did it go? And by the way is it compulsory to answer the guiding questions (I did the prose -tz2- and I analyzed more the language, then th relationship betwen the two). Will I heavily be penalized- i mean what grades can I get?)

Hi, all, So my EE is due internally tomorrow. Fine—it won't be. I plan on doing it by Friday. I am wondering 2 things: When is it due to IB finally and what has to happen internally besides the viva voce? (Does that even have to happen?) Do I absolutely need my adviser to sign off on it for it to go through to the IB?I am wondering about 2 because my adviser basically told me about a month ago that if it wasn't done by then, he was going to drop me as an adviser, so...am I completely screwed? -Antonio

Hey guys, What did you think about paper 1 prose and poem? I personally thought they were both soooo good!!! For once I felt like I could have picked either. I did the prose personally, and not that many others at my school did the prose :/ I really like the prose and it would have taken me much longer to decode the poem and what to say, so I just went with the prose. For paper 2, in the Novel and Short story section, I did Q7, It was the only one about authors using flashbacks or foreshadowing to broaden the time span covered by the narrative. There are some other things I wish I sa

I'm working on my essay for Works in Translation and I feel like my essay is kind of off topic and I was considering changing the topic question. Does this question sound okay for an IB Essay? In what ways does Antigone give insight into the Ancient Greek Culture? My original topic was addressing the influence of culture on the play, but I kept referencing the text and interpreting the culture through the text opposed to how the culture influenced the work.

I never finished my supervised writing during class for the Works in Translation essay. I have a clear enough link with the points I did write to write the actual essay, but just want to be sure the supervised writing doesn't count for anything? Will the IB mark it or even read it?

I'm struggling to understand the "categories" section of the extended essay guide. As far as I understand, if you're writing your essay in language A1 you have to study either ONLY works originally written in your own language OR compare at least one work written in your own language with another work translated from another language. Is this correct?? I'm worried for two reasons here. My topic is the significance of a particular trait in fairy tale characters, and I'm comparing a broad range of fairy tales from different countries, focusing only on their treatment of that particular trait. Death of a Salesman, along with Pygmalion and Othello, are the Dramas I've studied for Paper 2 (which is in two days time ) but I cannot seem to pick out relevant quotations from Death of a Salesman. I've used Shmoop and Sparknotes but they are useless to me. Does anyone have any theme related quotations, or even ones that can be applied to pretty much any essay question?

I have chosen Henry IV Part 1 as my text. I plan to work on the character development and transformation of Prince Henry (ie. Hal.) I've read the text, and while I find a lot to talk about, I'm worried it may not be enough. Any thoughts, especially from people who've already worked on the text? Thank you! I do English A1 SL.
