Hello, I'm going to start IB this year but I'm not sure whether to choose English A SL as my language A since I'm a non-native english speaker. The reason why I wanted to choose English A was because I'm studying in a foreign country and I cannot choose my native language as language A. (If I take it, it'll be self-taught). I also wanted to choose English B HL since I'm still learning English but I've recently learned that you cannot choose one language for both language A and B. I can't decide which of the two to take. I am fluent in English so the difficulty of the subjects is not really at question. I prefer the topics of English A, the teacher, and the class size which is smaller and thus enables more discussion. But, I don't really like literature that much and dread the concept of reading (not an avid reader at all). I think English B would be a breeze, I wouldn't have to work nearly as much for a 7, and I would have more time to devote to my ECs and college requirements. What do you think I should do? I want to write an essay on something along the lines of "the use of humour/satire in The Simpson's & Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream". I am actually quite surprised with the amount of literature we'll be doing in the course as I'd though it would only cover like 50%. Hi! As SL students probably know, we get guiding questions with each text for analysis. I was wonderig if it was required that we respond to them? The front of the paper says that it isn't required that we respond to them, so in my mock exam I wrote a commentary, like you would in HL. But soon after my teacher said we had to respond to the questions, so I was a little confused. Thank you!
