Hey you guys. So I've noticed that people were talking about Twilight in another thread, but I don't enjoy it much (don't eat me...). So I decided to start another thread about another series which I really like. It's called the Bartimaeus Trilogy (fantasy/mystery) and I recommend all who haven't read it to give it a try. Anyone read it already? Are there any other series you guys enjoy reading? Recommend a few for me!

This topic has always been an interest of mine. So, does anyone have any recommendations for good books on this topic? (preferably in English lol) Edit: I know that this really isn't literature, but this is one of the most appropriate forums for the topic, so I posted it here.)

I am currently analyzing this passage from the House of the Spirits for english: After the earthquake where it talks about Jamie and Nicolas returning to Tres Marias and I was wondering if the twins could symbolize two countries that were growing with the ideas of socialism but I was not sure on what countries they would be. The passage is from the chapter Revenge and it starts with "the Twins were so different they did not even look like brothers.... and continues till "forcing to admit his error" what else do you believe the twins can symbolize or parallel?

Does anyone read it? I've been following it since my Grade 6 teacher showed us it, and it's intrigued me. I'm a bit old for it now, but I just got my hands on Lord Sunday (the last book in the series), so i figured I may as well finish it off. How about you guys?

The Sorrow of War is the book I'm using for my second World lit, and I am completely stuck. I don't even know where to begin thinking of a topic. I absolutely hated the book but we only did three lord lit books and I am already using the other two for the comparative essay. Does any one have any suggestions that could point me into the right direction or at least give me an inspiration about what topic I can do for SOW?

I might be alone on this subject but for a while I have kinda been going through an age crisis of my own. I don't know, maybe it's because of some kind of empathy towards my dad (who is 50 years old now) but anyway I have kinda been pretty "oh my god I'm only gona be young only once how am I gona spend this precious time of my life omgomgomg" (okay fine not in a such a radical way but anyway). A book that I would really recommend to all of you for this would be Oscar Wilde's The Picture of Dorian Gray. I found it truly interesting and fascinating and I belive it managed to portray a vivid image of the youth obsessed culture that has been a part of us for a while now. I'm…

Well, my current...obsession, if you will, is Narnia fanfiction. I was listening to a Narnia fanfic podcast the other day and they mentioned the fact that if you didn't read the Narnia books as a child and tried to read it as an adult, you pretty much miss the boat because it's so...well, boring to read as a mature reader. To be honest, I would agree with this. Actually I never actually read Narnia as a child and only started reading them for my EE. But then I was looking at it more from a literary perspective so I wasn't thinking about how interested I might be otherwise. Recently I went back and reading them just for fun, and well...there is no doubt these are kids' boo…

Are many other schools studying this text for English A1 (part of World Literature)? It's quite a good book If you've read it, what would you say are the most pertinent themes, motifs and symbols? Do you agree with me that some of its literary value and effectiveness were subdued via the translation? Would you say that Enchi's authorial voice illustrates her acceptance of the taboo of having concubines in the Meiji era, yet it is evident that she does not like the idea? What else have you got to say about the novel?

Well, since Lc wanted to "rant" about HP7 and she can't find me online, I thought I might as well give her a place to rant. Really, so who has read (and finished) it? I don't have so much of a rant as a rave. Spoiler - Click me! First impression: The events moved so fast! The whole book, really, rushed. But I guess it sets the pace - it was a war, everything moved quickly. The deaths: Hedwig was shocking, especially all everyone's been speculating about had been human death. Mad Eye was expected, it was appropriate how he died in battle. Snape - again, expected. But I half expected him to turn out evil after all when all through the book there was no clue of …

I am doing my english oral presentation on Love Song of J Alfred Prufrock, need some hep though, if anyone has got any thought, would be glad to hear them. I dont need to talk abou the whole poem as it's quite long, but at least some chosen sections of it, probably the first page or so of it. Thank you. Here is the poem, in case you don't quite know it (it actually starts after the latin bit): (S'io credesse che mia risposta fosse A persona che mai tornasse al mondo, Questa fiamma staria senza piu scosse. Ma perciocche giammai di questo fondo Non torno vivo alcun, s'i'odo il vero, Senza tema d'infamia ti rispondo.) Let us go then, you and I, When the evening is spread out…

Hey everybody, Currently we are studying the book titled: "The In-Between World of Vikram Lall" by M G Vassanji. It is a brilliant book and incorporates many cultures and traditions in and around Kenya during the colonial period. Just curious, is anyone else studying the same book in their school?
