Hi im planning to apply to Australia for MBBS, and i've heard from some people that the conversion from IB and UAI is quite unfair, compared to other secondary school qualifications e.g. UK's A-Levels. Is this true? Also, i heard that some universities in Australia (e.g. UAdelaide) will give students 2 extra points if you take certain subjects for the IB (e.g. A language other than English and HL Maths). Do you guys know anything about this kind of system in other universities? Thanks so much!

Hi, I've done much research on undergraduate programs offering communications. I've realised that I want to have a career in the public relations/business communications field. I've sourced out several universities, but I've also realized that the top tier universities in both US and UK do not offer such a specialized program. There isn't much of a undergraduate Public Relations course I can undertake in top universities. What do I see is Communications/Media Studies which do involve small segments of public relations and marketing which I'm keen on. This are the universities that I'm interested in for their communication curriculum: UPenn, UCLA, NYU, Stanford, Cornel…

Hi I intend to apply to schools in the UK such as newcastle, bristol, birmingham, loborough,UCL but these are just ideas for a Computer Science Major. However I have been getting advice from relatives and such that going to the UK for computer science is nowhere near as good as going to the US or Canada. So, what is your opinion? If you have knowledge on something like this, please share. Thanks

One thing that constantly worries me is about which university I should apply to. Would it be better to go to somewhere local-- say the University of Utah and get lots of credit for what I am doing in high school. With all the AP and IB that I'm doing, I should transfer about 80 credit hours if I were to apply to the University of Utah. This would eliminate maybe 2 years of university and let me work straight on my major. Or would it be better to apply and get into somewhere like MIT or CalTech where I'd have to do more years, but maybe get more out of the experience? I met with some admissions officers from MIT, Yale, and Brown and they didn't really say much about an IB…

So I am a year into my university, and I am currently taking a semester off for an intership. Well I am working on a very specific Marketing degree and I am almost done with my minor in Spanish. but i was wondering what you all though about picking up a second major in International Business Managment. I would prolly graduate a semester to a year later than I had planned because to get the degree it is an extra 12 hours (1 semester) and I have to spend at least one semester abroad, but I still take classes while I am abroad. So do you all think it is a good idea or what are your thoughts in general?

I'm beginning to wonder how helpful is IB when it comes into getting into college. I'm so worried right now that my gpa is going to drop tremendously because of the bad grades i'm accumulating and I wonder if IB is really worth it. Do college even take the rigorous IB program into account anymore? There's just so much competition nowadays I feel like i'm not gonna make it.

Alright, so I think I have to decide on what I have to major in soon, because I'm still quite unaware of where I want to go, and how much I should aim for.. I'm taking B&M HL, History HL and English HL, my SL subs are math studies, ess, and chinese b. I hope that I don't have to deal with math in university, so hopefully the major compromises of no math components or little math components in the courses... I like the sound of Public Relations... Mass communications, Business communications... etc but I don't know the exact differences between the subjects... can someone explain the different majors to me? Thanks so much! Other than that, I'm aiming for a IB sco…

Moderator notice: Please refrain from chatting and commenting in this thread. Let's try to keep the thread nice and clean so that it'll be easy for people to get an overview of what kinds of offers people have received. Thanks! The thread for all us IBSers who have gotten offers to study in 2009. Post your offer with: the conditions, the predicted grades and the SAT scores (if you're applying to the US) you used to get an offer. I ask the PGs because students for 2010 can get a feel for their unis and see what unis require of them. If you haven't yet received your offers, you can post where you've applied and edit the post as the offers start rollin' in. -deissi Predicted…

hey first post anyways basically i'm screaming right now because i'm basically having a "mid-life crisis"? not the right term but that should give you an idea, of what i should do for my major. I feel liked i'm being pulled in all directions in terms of my interest. I like science but i can't meet the science pre-req as i took ib studies math. I like philosophy social sciences...etc blah blah and the list goes on and on... Hi I found math easy in Sat 1 but I find english hard. Please gives me some advice. i want get score of about 2000 - 2150. how hard is it to get it.? Is Tofel and IElts is hard compared to sat reading and writting sessions? Besides that will IB syllabus be enough for sat 2. I want to take math level 2, chem and phy for sat 2's. I take math HL, phy HL and chem HL. Which books would you recommend for Sat 1 and 2 ? As barrons and Kaplan are compartively easy to the actual SAT 1 which is harder. what scores are required in unis in singapore, US and Canada? Does UK look at sat? Is there any other exams that one must?

Hey, I'm entering the last year of IB this coming September, so university applications are coming up pretty soon. I'm thinking of doing either Sociology or Anthropology at university in the UK, but I have absolutely no idea where I should apply to. I'm not aiming for Oxbridge, and I guess I'm gonna get a final IB score of somewhere around 32 - 36... Help please!

Hello IB-friends, I know some of you has already holiday but a problem of choosing a university constantly tortures me: I've made up my mind that I will earn BA in Kent/Warwick (Joint honours:'Film Studies/Literature') and then in Cardiff (Joint honours: 'Journalism& Media/Cultural Criticism' - heard here is one of the best journalism in whole UK - is that right?). Then I'm going to conquer America and earn some postgraduates there But this is not the case. My question is: do you have any idea how could I make these two undergraduate degrees in less than 6 years? And do you think this is generally a good concept? thanks for your help, Magda

So I haven't decided yet what and where to study. I'm considering various locations and courses. I think that I have to limit my choices to Europe as US tuition fees are outrageous and even though when getting into some Ivies (which is close to impossible) would secure cover of fees there are still costs of living in US, travelling to and from my country and lack of ability to legally work on student visa. Besides, I'm not really into doing SAT in addition to IB exams. My other dream direction would be Australia due to their great climate and ranking good in World University Rankings unis. But I could not afford studying there and flight tickets as one-way travel would l…

I am talking about those schools that don't have a direct 4-year path to lead you to actual Med School. Those that just offer sciences for major/minors, along other classes. I have heard take: double major bio + chem major bio, minor chem major bio, minor: completely unique to stand out (language) major chem, minor psychology major bio + chem, minors psychology Take nothing important, only prerequisites for science then play around with other classes that will get a 4.0 for academic excellence. so all choices to make. What do you think is the best route to go for Major + Minors in order to prepare for MCATS. Even the colleges I went to asked me if I would be intereste…

hey guys! I needed to be cleared up on a tuition fee matter... (this question is really specific for Canada) uni. tuition fees are cheaper for those who live in the province that the uni. is in, right? is it the same province btw? or the same city/some type of other boundary? so for a Manitoba student going to, let's say, U of Toronto, then it would be more expensive for the Manitoba student than an Ontario student at U of T? another big clear-up I need: how LONG have you had to live in that province in order to pay the lower tuition fee? i've heard that it's 2 years... is this correct? is this same in all the universities across Canada? would the tuition fee be cheaper f…

I'm having problems writing my personal statement as I am thinking of applying to different courses and in most of the personal statement writing guides, they indicated that you should talk about your interest in the course and any career paths. It may sound foolish, but I simply want to work in an office someday and do whatever people do in them, ie. I don't have any passion as of yet. Should I fake a passion for something in my personal statement or not? If I do not talk about the course and just my personal qualities would I be at a disadvantage to the same candidates applying who have written their personal statements specifically to suit the requirements of the cours…

I am applying to Universities for Fall 2010. I just took the May exams, but I think I may have to do a retake. However, I also have to begin the college application process. WHen do November results come out, and are Universities willing to consider retake scores? Meaning, will the wait till like January (if that is when scores come out) for the IB scores . . . ? If anyone has done retakes, please help me out on how this works. I don't want to send in my May scores, if I decide to take re-takes. I will only send the best of the two scores. Hello, after looking around, I decided to post my question since I couldn't find any relevant posts. I'm wanting to do my undergraduate studies in psychology in either the USA or Australia. I've lived in America for 11 years, but since Australia seems much cheaper, I'm also interested in it. My question is: does anyone know differences in the undergrad studies in these countries? If I complete the B.A. in either, does the accreditation transfer between the two countries? I am also wanting to do graduate psychology studies after a 3 or 4 year Bachelor's degree... any opinions on where to do this? I figured that if I completed my B.A. in Australia and then moved to the US…

I was thinking of doing Health Sciences at McMaster University, though I really really really want to do an exchange to either Switzerland or Norway for a year. Since the H.Sc. program is based on group effort and comprised of elite students, wouldn't it make it hard to adapt to when back from Europe? By the way, I know McMaster U doesn't offer exchange on an undergrad level. There's a Quebec government plan that funds international exchange. That makes it even more precarious because the university itself has not considered a gap and will not arrange for a smooth transition back from exchange. Any thoughts appreciated!

So I applied to this summer camp but I was rejected so now I don't really know what to do. I am looking for things that will look GOOD on my College Application (US). That is my main focus. For now, I'm planning to volunteer at a food bank, work at a supermarket, and tutor. Is this good enough? What else should I do? Because I live in the Netherlands and I don't speak Dutch, I'm really limited to the things I can do... I was also thinking maybe doing something to help out at the colleges here but that is very unlikely. Tell me what you guys think. Thanks.
