Next year I'll be an IB student ( currently I'm in grade 10 ). I am applying for a scholarship, and I am required to write a 300 word essay on why I want to attend the IB program, and why in the school I chose to apply to. Any tips on what I should include? Also, should I send in with my application my photocopied report card of this year's first semester? ( I got good grades ) Furthermore, I will have to attend and interview with some IB representatives or something like that. Has anyone gone through one? Any tips? This would really help me out. And last but not least, I will have to choose a second language. My school offers French B (SL/HL), ab initio (SL), Modern Gr…

I attend an IB school in Toronto and am currently in Grade 12. We want to hold a conference/picnic for the younger students in our school to help them understand the benefits of IB and also help them perform well in it. This is like a picnic sort of so we need some activities. Do you guys have any ideas for activities that would help/ do you guys hold such conferences in your own school and if so what do you do We were thinking of asking an IB school in another part of the world to skype with us during the conference to show the internationalism of IB but thats too complex right now. Thanks

Is getting a 7 really that hard? I'm seeing a lot of people here who earned a 7 in more than 2 or 3 subjects, when I've been constantly told by my teachers that getting a 7 is basically nailing perfection itself, haha.

These are six definite classes I'm taking during my Senior year: 1) IB English IV(HL) 2) IB Chemistry III(HL) 3) IB Film II(HL) 4) ToK 5) AP Statistics 6) IB Social Anthropology(SL) My seventh class is either going to be AP Psychology, Leadership, or Journalism. Is this a good schedule?

I know you have to have a minimum of six subjects, three SL and three HL plus your TOK, CAS, and EE. But say you wanted to test in one of those subjects without taking the class at school, would this be allowed? If you already know another language that is not offered as a Language B at your school can you still examen in it? is there any point? will it help you in any way or just be extra work?

Well, hi everyone, this is my first post here! I'm just about to give in my sheet with my sourse selections for Grade 11 but am a bit worried about my choices and would like to know what I'm letting myself in for. Here are the subjects I'm planning to take: English Literature HL (previously called English A1) History HL Visual Arts HL Biology HL Maths SL German Literature SL (previously called German A1) My main dilemma concerns biology- from what I've hear it's a hefty load to memorise and although the subject fascinates me, I'm scared it will conflict with HL History which is a lot of writing. I had previously planned to take Biology SL but it turns out that I HAVE to …

So I'm about a week into the programme now. I'm taking Bio, Chem, Maths at HL, and English A1, Chinese B, Econs at SL. Just wanted to ask if there's anything I should take note of for any of my subjects? Like certain guide books, certain extremely hard topics etc etc. I'm sure that would make my studies more enjoyable. Thanks to everyone in advance!

Well i've thought of an incentive to help me study for my final exams. To create a public wiki with IB notes about every syllabus statement. I hope this will allow me to not only increase my productivity, but also you guys'. If there were a wiki page for every aspect of the IB syllabus for every subject, and then students filled this with their own personal notes, it would become a great study tool. Studies show that we take in about 85% of things that we teach others. Compare this to about 15% of what we hear, or about 40% of what we see. Transferring your notes and knowledge into language that would teach others is a great way help yourself study, and you will feel warm…

Hi all, I've recently finished my GCSE's in the sciences early and so have some spare time on my hands. I was wondering whether anyone would be able to provide me with a breakdown of what topics are covered in Biology HL in the 1st year so I can do some reading around the subject? Ditto with French SL ... Thanks!

I am one of probably around 300 IB students in Egypt and in case you haven't known: we had a revolution going on over here I am one of the many Egyptians who were in the protests most of the days and for me the past few weeks were pretty incredible except for ONE thing that is really starting to worry me and that is that I have NOT done anything "IB-related" for almost a month now!!!!!!!!!!! I am not done with my IA yet and let alone with studying (hardly started)..It has been extremely difficult to focus or concentrate and I am only starting to remember again that I am an IB student.. Hi all, Just wondering if anybody has any tips on how to get motivated to do work... I've always been the sort of kid that just cruises through school doing less than no work and still getting top marks but that doesn't really cut it in the IB. I'm still getting reasonable (mid to high 30's) marks but i know getting in the 40's is acheivable. I just don't know how to actually make myself do the work... Don't get me wrong, i work hard at the assessments and everything, but just general homework and study i find really challenging because it's so boring! Anyway, because i'm not really doing much work i'm feeling pretty unstressed, but then i feel stressed and guilty over no…

My AP Government teacher recommended me to the IB director at my school, so... now I'm in IB. I'm a sophomore. The Pre-IB 10th graders at my school had a meeting a few days ago, where the IB director told us what the general outline of courses we'd be taking next year would be. I'm taking: Chem HL 1 English HL 1 History of the Americas (HL course) IB French 3 IB Math Studies 1 IB Psych But as I'm new to IB, I'm a little confused about the sixth subject. Do we have to take a sixth subject for each of the two IB years?

Hello there So, I recently got accepted into the Pre-IB Program at a High School in Canada. On the acceptance letter it says that if I am interested in taking Math and/or Science for IB, I must show up for 2 pre-tests in may. I am currently in Grade 9, which means I will be taking the test in May of my Grade 9 school year (last year in Junior High/Middle School). Next year, I will be going to Pre-IB Grade 10. It always says that this test will be based on the Grade 9 Curriculum. I was just wondering, has anybody else taken these tests? Are they hard? My current teacher is kind of slow and doesn't teach us very well. What happens if there is something on there that my t…

I just got information from a friend about opportunities for full scholarship to do the IB Diploma at one of the United World Colleges (specifically Lester B. Pearson UWC of the Pacific in Canada). As I understand it, if you apply to do IB at Pearson, and get accepted, they will grant you the scholarship so that you can go. This is from the email I got from my friend: So if you're interested, contact me and I'll give you my friend's contact detail so that if you have any questions you can contact her. Deadline for Canadian applications for 2008 - 2010 session is Feb 15th. Canadian applications include landed immigrants. If you're applying internationally (i.e.…

Pretty much what the topic name says, yeah. I wanted to take Physics HL, but my school didn't offer it because they have never had enough demand for it (the minimum number of students required to open up a class is 20). Thus I ended up with Physics SL and Chemistry HL. However, this year they have decided to put Physics HL back on the course selection. ARGH.

How many hours do you sleep a night in term time, studying the IB? Usually I try to sleep for 9 hours but it varies and the worst is 2 hours sleep before a deadline where I have to perfect something (perfectionist - I am a bit crazy ;p)

Hi! So I started doing IB this year. I live in Spain, and so we have to do both the Spanish "bachillerato" and the IB at the same time. This makes my weekly classes count up to 38 hours per week. I got on the IB because of what it said in their website. They would teach me in a different way, I would learn and not just memorize stuff etc..etc... That is what made me sign up for it. My experience so far has been that it is just a normal Spanish Bachillerato but with more work and more hours. I dont learn in a different way, the difference between changing to the IB is not very big... Because of the work load I´m getting more stressed and not having much free time for extra…

I know a lot of you have already finished IB, so you can answer this question in the past tense if you wish. For the rest of you, what's the first thing you're gonna do when you walk out of that final exam in November/May of 2007/08/09... whenever it is that you finish? B) For me, the last exam is Psychology on the 20th November 2007. It's the last IB exam of the November session at our school, so our Psych class will be there all alone. I think afterwards we'll all go out for drinks or something. Then that night I'm gonna stay up until dawn watching old movies and drinking hot chocolate... because I can!! Can't wait. What about the rest of you?

I'm in 10th grade and will be starting the IB program next year. However, I'm not sure which subjects to choose. For college I was thinking, though not exclusively, about either international relations or Slavic languages and literature. For now, I'm doing well in all classes, but the humanities are definitely stronger then the natural sciences and math. I would want to take math, English, German as a foreign language, Croatian as an elective, and biology as a natural science. However, I don't know whether I should take history, psychology, or economics as a social science. I've heard from a couple people I should consider taking seven IB courses. I don't know how many pe…

Hey there, I am a Grade 9 Student who will be going into Grade 10 Pre-IB next year. I have been looking around this site and noticed a lot of words used such as... IA, IB1, IB2, Ab Initio, A1, A2, B. I know that IA is Internal Assessment, but what exactly is that? I also see IB1 and IB2 a lot. Is IB1, Grade 11 IB & IB2 Grade 12 IB? That's just a guess I understand that AB Initio, A1, A2, and B have something to do with language studies... What exactly are the differences? The school I am going to offers English A1 HL, French A2, French B, French AB Initio & Spanish Ab Initio. I've searched around google but still don't quite understand. Thank you!

Im taking a pre-IB entrance examination in February (about a month away) and i am freaking out about the math section. Is there anything on the test that we have not yet covered in school? Would it be possible for someone to give me an in general list of everything covered on the examination? (I am not asking for answers or anything.) I am applying for Port Moody secondary and could somebody give me a list of everything that i need to review? ie: Fractions, Rounding, Division and Multiplication of Decimals, Algebra or anything else. Thank you! (if this post seems kind of weird, its my first one) I would really appreciate help.

I find that the most efficient way to feel less stressed is to do something nice for someone. (Sounds cheesy, I know) It generally works best if it's anonymous. I love working through OperationBeautiful.com On a weekend, in the morning, I'll walk down to a corner store or grocery store and put Post-It notes up everywhere saying nice things. On school days, I'll bring my Post-It notes to school and take a bathroom break during History to decorate the bathroom without anyone knowing who did it. It makes me feel so much happier, it's like a mini-high, and I can get through the rest of the day and likely I'll have a smile on my face as well

He's been trying to get out of IB since he's over his head, but the administration and his mother wouldn't let him, even after month of him practically begging them to let him out. He kept saying he'd do something to get forced out, and well, he did something alright. He walked into Spanish class, tore down a Spanish flag, tipped over the teachers desk with all of her stuff on it, and walked out. She wasn't in there at the time, so when she came in she was confused ad hell, and asked for help fixing the class. He walks back in 15 minutes into class, and just sits down. She asks him if he has something to say, and he responds "Why are you such a *****?" She looks dumbfound…

I am in Grade 10 IB deciding on whether continuing IB. I was looking at some university sites and they require specific IB points for admission. Like Mcgill for example. Some of there programs require a minimum of 41. There are 7 courses including TOK, so does this mean I have to get 7's on all my courses and only allowed one 6? Or does the EE and other stuff give me points as well. If so, is it alot?

Hi, I'm in my final year of the MYP program and next year I'll be starting the IB program. I would really appreciate if you could share advice as to how to do well in the program, I know that you shouldn't procrastinate and review your notes periodically and things like that, but any advice from personal experience would be really helpful. I'm not scared of the program or anything, but I just want to hear how people are doing in the program. The courses that I am considering for next year are Bio HL, Chem HL, English HL, Math SL, Economics SL and possibly French SL

How many IB students in your school, actually get their IB diplomas ? I know for the few classes before me, a good 60 percent of the class didn't get their diplomas but still got into some top notch universities, i guess they slacked off too much and our program is relatively new, like 14 or so years old. Life doesn't end after the exams, i guess. i know my Bio Teacher's pass rate is like 96 percent or so, so im pretty confident in his teaching.
