I honestly wanted to make this thread about a week or so earlier out of pure rage, but now I want to take other's opinions. I'm not entirely favorable of my school's IB program. The subjects are very slim, the teachers are flaky, and my school doesn't even seem that well invested in the IB Program, and instead, just want to produce as many IB diploma recipients as possible with the lowest possible effort. My IB Coordinator has no preference to what courses students take, or that I'm practically failing one of my classes. I know for sure this is due to my school's fault. I remember being interested in IB from reading the website two years ago, but now that I'm actually a…

Hey people, i have to choose my IB subjects soon and i really need some advice. I know that i will take A1 SL English B SL Spanish ab initio 3 HL Economics 5 HL Mathematics But i still havent decided on my science and my 6th subject. What do you think would be the easiest of the sciences for IB if you do them equally well? and would it be better to take Business and Management for the 6th or take another language(french or german) ? I am seen to get all A for sciences. I have A* for IGCSE mathematics. * i want to study Economics and Business Economics at Erasmus University Rotterdam

Hi Everybody. So, according to the IB we have to revise, a lot! I have heard we need to revise 5 hours a night, or 2 hours for every 1 hour of class. So, how much do you guys revise, how much are we actually officially supposed to revise and is it necessary for the IB dp? Does it really even help? Good Night and Good Luck....or something like that. B)

I have 2 ITGS IAs and I have been inspired from some websites. However, I let some sentences and words to be the same from the websites as if I changed the words, the meaning would be lost. Does anyone know any valid plagiarism checkers? Also, if the meaning is the same with a website or a book but has different words, is it considered plagiarism!? =]

So, I got my exam scores and I was absolutely devastated. Higher Level: History of the Americas: 4 Predicted:5 Chemistry: 4 (this DEVASTATED me) Predicted: 7 Math: 5 (got my score breakdown and was a couple points from a 6. Highest score in my class still) Predicted:6/7 English A1: 6 Predicted: 5 Standard Level: Computer Science: 4 (took May '09) Predicted: 5 French B: 4 Predicted: 5 TOK: C Predicted: B EE:C Predicted: A I was really upset (mainly at chemistry)... Though I got my diploma, I can't get over the fact I got a 4 in chemistry HL... Though most of my class failed the exam, I still feel bad, even though that indicates something about the way we were taught. It's …

I was surfing around the site and I stumbled onto a post that said that their school averaged above 40s for their total IB scores. What? That is really crazy coming from my perspective because each year, maybe 50% of the graduating IB class will get scores over 30. I'm not sure if this is right, but you need a 24 to get the IB diploma. In the University of California system you need a 30 to get a year of college credit and enter as a sophmore. So, to me, it seems really crazy for a school to be able to average 40s. What does it take to be a school like that? Do the teachers or students do anything really special? How many schools really average around this range? I guess …

Hi, I started the IB program in the U.S. but for a number of reasons I do not feel comfortable and I am not happy with the school boarding system. I am a really serious student and all my class grades are the maximum achievable in the american grade system (A). I would like to finish my IB program (doing the second year) in China, also because i firmly believe it would be an amazing personal experience. My only doubt is that maybe changing school in the middle of the program it's not the best idea. Any suggestions? I think I could study even harder if necessary or handle EE and CAS by myself. Just for info my subjects are: Math HL History HL English A1 HL Bio SL Spanish B…

OK, so the past few days I've had tons of questions that I wanted to post here but each time I realized that whatever I was writing about had to be turned in through turnitin.com Does anybody use this program? My teachers use it for every single one of my classes and it just freaks me out that I might be plagarizing in any way. Last year one of my best buddies got expelled from school for copying about two lines and running it through turnitin.com I know it sounds paranoid and obviously if I got help from here I'd change the words or make it a more original idea, I just get scared at the thought that I might get a 20% plagarized on my paper or something. Anybody feel the…

Do you know (or can come up with) any good IB slogans ? When we graduate (in my town at least?) all classes have thier own open truck driving around town with music played and waving banners with different texts. It seems really fun! I'm wondering if you have any ideas on funny things to write, related to the IB. Examples they have had previous years are: "I think, therefore IB", "Geek today, your boss tomorrow", "Final version" etc. Any cool suggestions?

Hi guys, I'm resitting chemistry in five days and I'm aiming at a six. I have a five in my internal assessments, which are 24% of the overall grade. I had "28 points" and a 5 on my IA. Is it possible to get a 7 (theoretically) if I did, like, perfectly in the exam? I don't think this is realistic but I'd like to know anyway ;D cheers ps. sorry if a similar question has already been posted somewhere.

This isn't about retaking exams after 6 months if you fail/do badly the first time you do them, but rather about sitting the exam after everyone else in the world has done it if there are exceptional circumstances for you not being able to sit the exam in the first place. A senior who graduated in 2007 recently told me that he was sick for a week in the middle of IB exams with severe food poisoning (he was throwing up and it wouldn't stop). He had to go to hospital, and missed his Chemistry Paper 3 exam. Even though he got a doctor's note explaining his circumstances, the IB didn't let him resit the exam that year. He ended up getting a 0 on the paper (obviously), which d…

I'm a freshman at a relatively new school (its 3rd year). It has the IB program and doesn't offer AP classes like most American schools. I procrastinate a lot and sort of scared of IB. I am an all-A student so far, except for this one class where the teacher has screwed everyone over and therefore I have a B. I know a bit about IB, but I don't think I'm going to do too well. I would appreciate some help in preparing for IB. Since my school is new, a relatively low amount of courses is being offered in IB. This is what I will probably take, though it is subject to change if more courses are added. Math HL (I have read dreaded things about this, but I'm too "overqualified" …

Hi everyone. I just began my first year of the IB Diploma in mid-August. The workload is okay so far,but the results I've been getting...not that great. I've been getting only 5s, and I got a 4 for a recent history essay. Does it take a while to get used to the IB? Did you all have problems with your work to begin with? Thank you so much!

So most of my teachers went kind of crazy with the predicted scores and ended up giving a lot of us some pretty crappy scores. Craziest of all, however, is our TOK teacher, who handed out Ds and Fs for the predicted of our bonus points like free candy. So my question is this: if somebody is predicted a 0 in terms of the bonus points, does that mean that the teacher predicted that they'll fail the EE and the TOK essay & presentation and thus fail IB and not get a diploma?

Hey everyone, I'm deciding this year if I want to do the full IB program for my last 2 years of high school. I've heard a lot of good things about it, but does anyone here regret doing the IB? If you regret it, what in particular do you regret about it (like subject choices, not studying enough, etc.)? Any advice would be appreciated!

Are we allowed to install programs on our GDC and use these for exams where mathematics will be needed, such as Chemistry or Biology? Simply to be able to calculate more quickly? I've found some which help you calculate number of moles with ease, and from what I know I don't think calculators are reset during these examinations, what do you think?

Hello, I'm a sophomore, so I'm not officially in IB yet. I'm taking Honors English 10 and IB Spanish 4 (which is first year of IB Spanish B; I'm doing it as IB though). Both of those courses require a 100-sheet notebook. Teachers don't care whether it is college or wide ruled. I just bought wide ruled, but I'm thinking about returning them and buying college ruled. Which one (college or wide ruled) do YOU prefer, and why?

Struggling with HL Math and Spanish, having to deal with an hour long commute to school, no car, no job, and our football team (which went to state from 03-08 and won all but one) has just been eliminated from playoff contention, a month before the playoffs begin. And CAS hours, can't forget those. This is not how I envisioned my senior year going.

I started the IB at the beginning of this year and so far, although obviously it hasn't been a breeze, it hasn't really killed me either. Usually we get over a week for assignments and end up missing sleep due to our bad time management, at least in my school. What do you guys think? Is this forum making too big a deal of the IB or is it necessary to survive the torture that the IB represents?

So, next year...I am going to start IB! YAY!! But, I am really freaked out! I am so nervous! So if you guys have tips for me I would love to hear them! And address any IB myths like how I am going to die with the amount of homework given or how I am not going to have a social life! I am going into IB Diploma not Certificate and I plan on going to medical school! I am an honors student with straight A's usually 94 and above. Tell me if I can survive! THANKS! Rithu

(how many hours per day)? it usually takes about 5 hours per day for me and im not getting enough sleep as i can't concentrate for such a long time and it takes more time than it should sometimes i procrastinate but there really isnt much choice because some days you just cant work much or concentrate and the tests and big assignments are crammed in a week so how are you managing your time?

I am most worried about what colleges will think about my grades, GPA, and rank. Please help, im lost... Thanks!!!!

Hi all, I just found this forum the other day and loved the idea of a community of IB people helping each other to stay afloat in IB. I didn't see a specific place for introductions, so I'll assume the informal setting of the chat room is okay. I am a junior in Austin, Texas and just started IB in August, so I'll be taking the vast majority of my tests in May 2012. So far, I am enjoying the classes and the teachers I have are really great. Here's what I am/will be taking: HL English HL History HL Physics OR HL Chemistry (Haven't decided! Any thoughts? Right now I'm in Physics I.) SL Math (Right now I'm in Pre-AP Precalculus.) Is it possible to write a second IB test after completing the IB diploma program. Could someone, who would like to take HL chemistry maybe half a year or a year after he is done with IB, take higher chemistry exams and get full marks if he is really good at this (and had SL before) and just found out he might need it for university? Thank you for all the intelligent answers I am sure I will receive.

hey guys, i will have my iB course in the ACT. And there, people have to complete the ACT Certificate and the IB TOGETHER!!!!!!!!! Which means we will have to sit the last exam of both ... AT THE SAME PERIOD OF THE YEAR and both exams count towards the University!!! .. and I find that horrible So yeah, would anyone do the same thing so we can be friend you know =) ??? Personally, i don't think it sounds .. ok because some schools have really strong IB background and the students focus only on the last IB exam. Any reason why the government accepted that? (The schools were encouraged to have IB .. I think, at least from the principal)

hey guys, I was hoping some of you taking these classes could give me some insight. I'm currently in Economics HL, but it's been a rather boring class for me. In being boring, I haven't been able to find the passion to study for it as much as I have for my other subjects, and as a result my mark is a 3 in that class. It's not too late to switch classes yet, but due to the block schedule at my school, the only classes available are History of the Americas SL and Economics SL (1-year). The Economics SL class is a one year course, as the two year content has been squeezed into one year, so there's more of a workload than HL itself for that one year. Which would be the best…

The begining of October, my art teacher assigned a practice IB project to help us decide what is and isnt working with our theme and what we need to change and adjust. Problem is, i JUST found something that interestes me as a theme about a week ago. Our project is due this Wednesday. I love old cameras and i have a huge collection (mostly of old Polaroids). As my theme, i wanted to do the "evolution of photography and cameras" and to make it more general i was going to do something with the 20th century. My art teacher thought 20th century was too broad so i said i would just try the evolution of photography and cameras. Okay, well im stumped with what to do as my studio…
